We did not send down the Angels except with
truth, and they would not then be given respite.

And We have made for you therein livelihoods and those for whom you are not providers.

And We have sent the fertilizing winds
and sent down water from the sky and given you drink from it, and you are not
its keepers.
Wa inna la-nahnuo nuhyi wa numeetuo wa

And indeed, it is We who give life and
cause death, and We are the Inheritors.
Wa laqad alemna almustaqdemeena menkum wa laqad alemna almusta'khereen (24).
And indeed, We have known the preceding ones among you, and indeed, We have known the later ones.

And indeed, Your Lord will gather them,
indeed, He is All-Wise, All-Knower.

And when Your Lord said to the Angels indeed, I am going to create a human being from dry clay from a wet mud.

Then when I have perfected him, and breathed into him from My Spirit, then fall down to him prostrating.
Fa-sajada almalekatuo kulluhum ajma-uon

So the Angels prostrated, all together.

He said O Iblis! What is with you
that you are not along with those who prostrated?.

He said I would not prostrate to a

When they entered upon Him then said "peace', He said indeed, we are fearful of you.
Qaluo la tawjal inna nubashsheruka

They said Do not fear, indeed, we give
you glad tidings of knowledgeable boy.
Qala a-bashshartumuni ala an massaniya

He said Have you given Me glad tidings
although old age has come upon Me, then of what do you inform?.
Qaluo bashsharnaka bel-haqqi fa-la takun

They said We have given you glad tidings
in truth, so Do not be among those who despair.
Qala wa man yaqnatuo men rahmati Rabbehi

He said, then what is your mission O Messengers?.
Qaluo inna aurselna ela qawmin mujremeen

And when the Messengers came to the
family of Lot.
Qala innakum qawmun munkaruon (62).
He said indeed, You are unknown people.
Qaluo bal je'naka be-ma kanuo feehi

They said but We have come to You with
that about which they were in doubt.
Wa ataiynaka bel-haqqi wa inna

And We have come to you with truth, and
indeed, We are truthful.
Fa-asri be-ahleka beqet-in mena

So Set out with Your family during a
portion of the night and Follow their backs and Let not anyone among you look
back and Continue on to where you are commanded.
Wa qadaiyna elaiyhi zaleka alamra anna

And We conveyed to Him that matter, that the root of these
would be cut off by early morning.
Wa ja-a ahluo almadenati yastabsheruon
(67).
And the people of the town came
rejoicing.
Qala inna haulaee daiyfi fa-la tafdahuon
(68).
He said indeed these are My guests so Do
not shame Me.
Wa-ttaquo Allaha wa-la tukhzuon (69).
And Fear Allah and Do not disgrace Me.
Qaluo awa-lam nanhaka ani al-alameen
(70).
They said Have we not forbidden You from
the world?.
Qala haulaee banati in kuntum fa-eleen
(71).
He said these are My daughters if you
would be doers.
La-amruka innahum la-fee sakratehim

By Your life, indeed, they were in their
intoxication, wandering.
Fa-akhazat-humuo alsaiyhatuo mushreqeen
(73).
So the blast seized
them at sunrise.
Fa-ja'alna alaiyaha safelaha wa amtarna
alaiyhim hejaratan men sejjil (74).
And We made the highest of it its lowest
and rained upon them stones of hard clay.
Inna fee zaleka la-ayatin lel-mutawassemeen (75).
Indeed, in that there are signs for those who discern.
Wa innaha la-besabeelin muqeem (76).
And indeed, it is on an established road.
Inna fee zaleka la-ayatan lel-mu'meneen (77).
Indeed, in that there is a sign for the believers.
Wa in kana as-habuo alaiykati la-zalemeen (78).
And indeed, the companions of the Aykah were wrongdoers.
Fa-ntaqamna menhum wa innahuma la-be-imamin mubeen (79).
So We took vengeance on them, and indeed, both are on a clear pathway.
Wa laqad kazzaba as-habuo alhijri almursaleen (80).
And indeed, the companions of Alhijr denied the Messengers.
Wa ataiynahum ayatena fa-kanuo anha mu'redeen (81).
And We gave them Our signs, but from them they were turning away.
Wa kanuo yanhetuona mena aljebali buyutan ameneen (82).
And they used to carve houses from the mountains, secure.
Fa-akhazat-humuo alsaiyhata musbeheen (83).
Then the blast seized them by early morning.
Fa-ma aghna anhum ma kanuo yaksebuon (84).
So they were not availed by what they used to earn.
Wa ma khalaqna alsamawati wa alarda wa ma baiynahuma ella bel-haqqi, wa inna alsa-ata la-ateiyatun fa-sfahi alsafha aljameel (85).
And We did not create the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them except in truth, and indeed, the Hour is surely coming, so Leave them with a generous departure.
Wa inna Rabbaka huwa Alkhallaquo Alaleem (86).
And indeed, You Lord is the Supreme Creator, the All-Knower.
Wa laqad ataiynaka sab-an mena almathani wa alqurana alazeem (87).
And indeed, We have given You seven of the oft-repeated and the Great Quran.
La tamuddanna aiynaiyka ela ma matta'na behi azwajan menhum wa la tahzan alaiyhim wa-khfid janahaka lel-mu'meneen (88).
Do not extend your eyes towards that by which We gave enjoyment to pairs of them, and Do not grieve over them, and Lower Your wing to the believers.
Wa Qul inni ana alnazeeruo almubeen (89).
And Say indeed, I am the clear Warner.
Kama anzalna ala almuqtasemeen (90).
Just as We revealed to the separators.
Allazina ja-aluo alqurana edeen (91).
Those who made the Quran into portions.
Fa-wa-rabbeka lanas-alannahum ajma-een (92).
So by Your Lord, We will surely question them all.
Amma kanuo ya'maluon (93).
About what they used to do.
Fasda' bema tu'maruo wa a'red ani almushrekeen (94).
Then Declare what You are commanded and Turn away from the polytheists.
Inna kafaiynaka almustahze-een (95).
Indeed, We are Sufficient for You against the mockers.
Allazina yaj-aluona ma-a Allahi elahan akhara fa-sawfa ya'lamuon (96).
Those who make another god along with Allah, so they will know.
Wa laqad na'lamuo annaka yadeequo sadruka bema yaquluon (97).
And indeed, We know that Your breast straitens by what they say.
Fa-sabbeh be-hamdi Rabbeka wa kun mena alsajedeen (98).
So Glorify with the praise of Your Lord and Be of those who prostrate.
Wa'bud Rabbaka hatta ya'teiyaka alyaqeen (99).
And Worship Your Lord until there comes to You the certainty.
Simplified interpretation:
Surat Alhijr begins with three letters of the Arabic language, just like 28 Surahs of the Holy Quran that start with individual letters ranging from one to five letters. It is noticeable that in all 29 Surahs the book or the Holy Quran is mentioned whether it is immediately after these letters or it is included in the Surah or even at the end of it. It is a challenge from Allah, Almighty, to the infidels of Quraish, as if Allah says to them this is the book in the letters of the language you speak, but you will not be able to produce the like of it, and He has already challenged them in Aya (88) of Surat Alisraa "Say, if mankind and the Jinn gathered in order to produce the like of this Quran, they could not produce the like of it, even if they were to each other assistants". As for the current Surah, it begins with three letters "Alif, Lam, and Raa" or "A, L, and R" in English followed by "These are the verses of the book and a clear Quran", but the knowledge of these letters remains with Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
Allah says in the first three verses (1-3) "Alif Lam Raa these are the verses of the book and a clear Quran, perhaps those who disbelieve wish that they were Muslims, Let them eat and enjoy and be diverted by hope for they will know", that is, Allah confirms that these are the verses of the Holy Quran which is a clear book whose verses show the truth from falsehood, the lawful from the forbidden, and the stories of the previous nations, then Allah assures that the disbelievers who deny the Holy Quran and oppose Allah's Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) will wish on the day of resurrection that they were Muslims in the worldly life, where as mentioned in Aya (27) of Surat Alan'am that they will say when they are made to stand before the Hellfire ''Oh! Would that we were sent back, and we would not deny the signs of our Lord, and would be among the believers", so they will regret their disbelief at a time when regret is of no use, thereupon, Allah threatens them and says to His Messenger Let them eat and enjoy themselves, and Let the hope divert them from the way of obedience and repentance as the worldly life is very short period, and its pleasures will quickly fade away, and they will know the consequence of their disbelief on the day of resurrection.
Allah says in the next four verses (4-7) "And We did not destroy any town except that for it a known decree, no nation can precede its term, nor can they delay it, and they say O you upon whom the reminder has been sent down, indeed, You are surely a madman, Why do You not bring us the Angels, if You are of the truthful?", that is, Allah assures that He did not destroy any of the previous nations except that it has an appointed time; Because the rule of Allah is not to destroy any nation except after warning them by sending Messengers with the reminder to them as mentioned in Aya (208) of Surat Alshu'araa, but when they disbelieved, and denied Allah's Messengers and the argument has been established against them, Allah destroyed them at their appointed time, and no nation of them can precede its appointed time, nor can they delay it, so Will the polytheists of Quraish abandon the polytheism and stubbornness they are in lest the destruction befell them as those before them?, no, they persisted on disbelief and stubbornness and said to Allah's Messenger upon whom the Holy Quran has been sent down that He is insane for calling them to believe and abandon the religion of their fathers, and they asked Him to bring them the Angels in order to tell them that He is right in what He says, if He is of the truthful ones.
Allah says in the next two verses (8,9) "We did not send down the Angels except with truth, and they would not then be given respite, indeed, it is We who sent down the reminder and indeed, We will be its Guardian", that is, Allah responded to the disbelievers who asked for seeing the Angels as an evidence of the truthfulness of Allah's Messenger and says that He did not send down the Angels except with truth, where they are sent down with Allah's message to His Messengers or with Allah's torment upon whom He wills of His servants. So if Allah had sent the Angels to them as a sign, then they disbelieved, Allah would hasten the torment for them, Just as He did to the nations before them when they asked for a sign then disbelieved like Thamud, the people of the Prophet Salih, so they would not given any respite to repent and believe, then Allah assures that He has sent down the Holy Quran upon His Messenger, and that He is its Guardian lest falsehood be added to it or its rulings, limits, and obligations be diminished.
Allah says in the next four verses (10-13) "And We had certainly sent before You among the sects of the former people, and no Messenger came to them, but they used to ridicule Him, thus We insert it into the hearts of the criminals, they will not believe in it, while there has already passed the rule of the former people", that is, Allah addresses His Messenger saying that He has sent Messengers before Him among the previous nations, but their condition did not differ from that of Quraish, where no Messenger came to them but they used to deny Him, and mock at Him, thus Allah has inserted the denial and disbelief in the hearts of the criminals, so they will not believe in the Holy Quran until they see the painful punishment as mentioned in Aya (201) of Surat Alshu'araa, but their faith did not benefit them when they saw the torment; Because Allah will not accept their repentance in that case where the rule of Allah that has passed among the former people is that the repentance will not be accepted at the time of death or on the day of resurrection, where Allah says in Aya (85) of Surat Ghafir "But their faith did not benefit them when they saw Our punishment, the rule of Allah that has passed among His servants, and there the disbelievers will lose".
Allah says in the next two verses (14,15) "And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend, they would say our eyes have only been deluded, rather we are a bewitched people", that is, the Polytheists will not believe even if Allah opened to them a gate from the sky and they continued to ascend from one sky to another, and they see the kingdom of the heavens and the Angels, they would say that their eyes have been only deluded, rather they are affected by magic, so they saw imaginations that have no reality, and they get confused so they cannot distinguish between the truth and falsehood.
Allah says in the next three verses (16-18) "And We have placed within the heaven constellations, and have adorned it for the onlookers, and We have protected it from every accursed satan, except he who steals the hearing and a clear flame followed him", that is, Allah has placed the planets in the lowest sky and has adorned it for the onlookers by the sun, the moon, and the stars, and Allah has protected the heaven from every accursed Satan lest he listens to the exalted assembly of the Angels in order to know the news of the sky and gives it to the soothsayers in order to distort it, but as for the one who eavesdrops on the sky, then a bright flame follows him, and as narrated by Abdullah Bin Abbas: "A person from the Ansar who was amongst the companions of Allah's Messenger (PBUH) reported to me: As we were sitting during the night with Allah's Messenger a meteor shot gave a dazzling light, Allah's Messenger said What did you say in the Pre-Islamic days when there was such a shot?, they said Allah and His Messenger know best, but we used to say that a great man had been born and a great man had been died, whereupon, Allah's Messenger said: It is not thrown at the death of anyone nor on the birth of anyone, but when Allah, Almighty, decides something, the Angels, bearers of the throne, glorify, then the dwellers of the heaven who are near to them glorify until the glorification reaches the inhabitants of this lowest sky, then those who are near the bearers of the throne, ask the bearers of the throne: What your Lord has said?, and they accordingly inform them what He says, then some of the dwellers of the heavens ask each other until this information reaches the lowest heaven, then the Jinn snatch the hear and carry it to their allies, and they are pelted with it (meteor), so if they narrate only which they manage to snatch that is correct but they mix it with lies and make addition to it" (Sahih Muslim 2229 a).
Allah says in the next three verses (19-21) "And the earth, We spread it out, and cast in it firmly set mountains, and We made to grow therein of every balanced thing, and We have made for you therein livelihoods and those for whom you are not providers, and there is not a thing but that with Us are its treasures, and We do not send it down except according to a known measure", that is, Allah has spread out the earth, and He has cast in it the mountains as pegs to remain anchored as mentioned in Aya (7) of Surat Alnab' "And the mountains as pegs", and He has made to grow in the earth of every balanced thing of all crops, fruits, and plants. And Allah has facilitated for mankind the means of livelihood and gains, and has subjugated for them the cattle that they eat, and all moving creatures that they ride as their sustenance is upon Allah, the Creator of everything, and the Owner of everything, and He has the treasures of everything, but Allah does not send it except in a known measure according to His will, and the creation's need, where Allah says in Aya (27) of Surat Alshura "And if Allah extended the provision for his servants, they would have transgressed on the earth, but He sends down what He wills in measure, indeed, He is of His servants All-Aware, All-Seeing".
Allah says in the next four verses (22-25) "And We have sent the fertilizing winds and sent down water from the sky and given you drink from it, and you are not its keepers, and indeed, it is We who give life and cause death, and We are the Inheritors, and indeed, We have known the preceding ones among you, and indeed, We have known the later ones, and indeed, Your Lord will gather them, indeed, He is All-Wise, All-Knower", that is, Allah has sent the fertilizing winds which fertilizes the clouds with water and it is the opposite of the barren wind which had been sent for the destruction of Ad, the people of the Prophet Hud as mentioned in Aya (41) of Surat Aldhariyat, so Allah has subjected the wind to fertilize the clouds with water, then He sends down fresh and sweet water from the sky from which mankind drink, while they are not its keepers for Allah is the One who sends it down and preserve it in springs, wells, rivers, and other things in order to remain throughout the year, so that they could drink and water their livestock, fruits, and crops, and if Allah wills, He can make the water sunken in the earth, then who could bring them a flowing water? as mentioned in Aya (30) of Surat Almulk, then Allah confirms that He initiates the creation, He causes death, and He will inherit the earth on the day of resurrection when all creations die, and Allah knows those who have perished since Adam was created, peace be upon Him, those who are alive and those who will come until the day of resurrection, so He will gather them all, the preceding and the later ones for reckoning on the day of resurrection, and Allah is All-Wise who manages His creation with wisdom in His laws and destiny, the All-Knower of everything as nothing is hidden from Him in the heavens nor on the earth.
Allah says in the next two verses (26,27) "And indeed, We have created man from dry clay from a wet mud, and the Jinn We have created before from the scorching fire", that is, Allah has created Adam from dry clay like the pottery after it was a wet mud, and Allah's Messenger said in narration of Abu Musa Alash'ari: "Allah created Adam from a handful which He took from the whole of the earth, so the children of Adam are in accordance with the earth, some red, some white, some black, some mixture, also smooth and rough, bad and good" (Abu Dawood 4693), and Allah has created the Jinn before Adam from the scorching fire, and when Satan saw Adam in Paradise before the soul was breathed into him, he knew that he will not have power to restrain himself from desires, or rebel obsession and anger, where as narrated by Anas bin Malik that Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said: "When Allah fashioned Adam in Paradise, He left him as He liked him to leave, then Iblis roamed round him to see what actually that was and he found him hollow from within, he recognized that he had been created with a disposition that he would not have control over himself" (Sahih Muslim 2611 a).
Allah says in the next four verses (28-31) "And when Your Lord said to the Angels indeed, I am going to create a human being from dry clay from a wet mud, then when I have perfected him, and breathed into him from My Spirit, then fall down to him prostrating, so the Angels prostrated, all together, except Iblis, he refused to be along with those who prostrated", that is, Allah cites the story of creation of Adam, where Allah told the Angels before the creation of Adam that He is going to create a human being from dry clay like the pottery after it was a wet mud, and He commanded them to prostrate to Adam when He finished and perfected his creation as a respect for Him and in compliance with Allah's command, so the Angels, all of them, prostrated except Iblis (Satan) refused to be among the Angels who prostrated before Adam: Because he was arrogant, and he was of the Jinn and departed from the command of his Lord as mentioned in Surat Alkahf Aya (50), so he became of the disbelievers.
Allah says in the next four verses (32-35) "He said O Iblis! What is with you that you are not along with those who prostrated?, He said I would not prostrate to a human being whom You have created from dry clay from a wet mud, He said then Get out from it, indeed you are accursed, and indeed, upon You is the curse until the day of Judgment", that is, Allah asked Iblis about what preventing him from prostrating along with the Angels who prostrated before Adam, so Iblis said that he would not prostrate before a human being whom Allah has created from dry clay like the pottery after it was a wet mud, he was arrogant to prostrate to Adam and said to Allah "I am better than him, You created me from fire and created him from clay'' as mentioned in Aya (76) of Surat Sad, so he claimed that he is better than Adam; because he was created from fire and Adam was created from clay, and the fire is better than the clay in his claim, thereupon, Allah expelled him from Paradise and from His mercy until the day of resurrection and said to Him "Get out from it, indeed you are accursed, and indeed, upon You is the curse until the day of Judgment".
Allah says in the next five verses (36-40) "He said my Lord then respite me until the day they are resurrected, He said, indeed, you are of those given respite, until the day of the known time, he said my Lord because you have let me astray, I will surely adorn for them on the earth, and I will surely seduce all of them, except Your chosen servants among them", that is, Iblis asked Allah not to die, and to delay him until the day of resurrection, so Allah delayed him until the known time which is the day on which all creation will die, so He said to Allah because He let him go astray and accursed him, he will adorn for the children of Adam on the earth as he will adorn the evil deeds for them till they see it as good deeds, and will seduce them all by the pleasures of the worldly life except those whom Allah has purified for His worship, and whom He has protected from misguidance.
Allah says in the next four verses (41-44) "He said this is a path upon Me straight, indeed over My servants you have no authority, except those who follow you of the deviators, and indeed, Hellfire is the appointment for them all, it has seven gates, for each gate there is assigned portion of them", that is, Allah has threatened Iblis and made clear to him the straight path of Allah which is to save the believers from him, and to punish his followers, so Allah said to him that he has no authority over His faithful servants; For He will protect them from the accursed Satan, and his authority will be over the disbelievers who have deviated from the path of guidance, and Hellfire will be the promised place for Iblis, his progeny, and his followers from among the children of Adam, then Allah assures that Hellfire has seven gates, and it has been written for each gate that a portion of Iblis' followers will enter from it, and each of them will enter from a door, and settle in a place in Hellfire according to his deeds.
Allah says in the next four verses (45-48) "Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and springs, Enter it in peace, secure, and We will remove whatever is in their breasts of grudge, brothers, on thrones facing each other, no fatigue will touch them therein, nor from it will they be expelled", that is, the righteous will be in eternal bliss in Paradise and they will have gardens beneath which rivers flow, and it will be said to them Enter paradise in peace, and secure from all fear and panic, so they will be blessed and honored in the gardens of the bliss, and Allah will remove whatever grudge was in their breasts in the worldly life, and Allah's Messenger said in narration of Abu Sa'id Alkhudri: "When the believers pass safely over Hell, they will be stopped at a bridge in between Hell and Paradise, where they will retaliate upon each other for the injustices done among them in the world, and when they get purified of all their sins, they will be admitted into Paradise, by Him in whose Hands is the life of Muhammad is everybody will recognize his dwellings in Paradise better than he recognizes his dwellings in this world" (Sahih Albukhari 2440). So the righteous will enter Paradise as brothers with no rancor or animosity between them, and they will recline on thrones therein, they will face each other and they do not see each other's back, they will not suffer from fatigue nor illness therein, and they will not be expelled from Paradise as it will be their eternal residence.
Allah says in the next two verses (49,50) "Inform My servants that it is I am the All-Forgiving, the Most Merciful, and that My punishment is the painful punishment'', that is, Allah commanded His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) to inform His servants that He is the All-Forgiving, the Most Merciful for those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds, and that Allah's punishment is the painful punishment for those who persist on disbelief and tyranny, and Allah's Messenger said in narration of Abu Hurayrah: "There are one hundred mercy for Allah, and He has sent down out of these one part of mercy upon the Jinn, and Human beings, animals, and the insects, and it is because of this that they love one another, show kindness to one another, and even the beast treats its young one with affection, and Allah has reserved ninety nine parts of mercy with which He would treat His servants on the day of resurrection" (Sahih Muslim 2752 c). And He also said in narration of Abu Hurayrah: "If a believer were to know the punishment, none would have audacity to aspire for Paradise and if a disbeliever were to know what is there with Allah as a mercy, none would have been disappointed in regard to Paradise"(Sahih Muslim 2775).
Allah says in the next six verses (51-56) ''And Inform them about the guests of Abraham, when they entered upon Him then said "peace', He said indeed, we are fearful of you, they said Do not fear, indeed, we give you glad tidings of knowledgeable boy, He said Have you given Me glad tidings although old age has come upon Me, then of what do you inform?, they said We have given you glad tidings in truth, so Do not be among those who despair, He said and who despairs of the mercy of his Lord except for those who are astray'', that is, Allah commanded His Messenger to inform His people about the guests of the Prophet Abraham, peace be upon Him, where the Angels came to the Prophet Abraham in the form of good human beings and they greeted Him with peace, He did not know them, and He brought them their hospitality which is a roasted calf and placed it in front of them, but He felt afraid of them when He saw them not eating as mentioned in Ayat (26-28) of Surat Aldhariyat, then the Angels reassured Him, and gave Him a glad tidings of a knowledgeable boy "Isaac", but the Prophet Abraham marveled at their glad tidings for He had reached an old age, and His wife Sarah was sterile, so How can he has a son?, so they reassured Him a gain and said that they give Him the glad tidings in truth and it will become true before their eyes, thereupon, they commanded Him not to despair of Allah's mercy, and not to be among the despondent, so the Prophet Abraham said to them that none despairs from Allah's mercy except those who went astray; For He knows Allah's ability to do whatever He wills, but He marvels at His old age and the barrenness of His wife.
Allah says in the next four verses (57-60) "He said, then what is your mission O Messengers?, they said, We have been sent to a criminal people, except the family of Lot, We will surely save them all, except His wife, We decreed that she is of those who left behind", that is, when the fear went away from the Prophet Abraham and He was certain that they were Angels, He asked them about their mission, so they told Him that they were sent to a criminal people, who are the people of the Prophet Lot as they opposed the Prophet Lot and practiced sodomy, which is an indecency that no one from the worlds had ever done before them as mentioned in Surat Ala'araf Ayat (80-84), thereupon, Allah ordered them to send upon them stones of hard clay as mentioned in Aya (33) of Surat Aldhariyat, but the Angels assured Him that they will save the Prophet Lot and His two daughters. But as for His wife, Allah destined her to be of those who remained behind; because she betrayed the Prophet Lot by not believing and cooperating with His people against Him as mentioned in Aya (10) of Surat Altahrim.
Allah says in the next four verses (61-64) "And when the Messengers came to the family of Lot, He said indeed, You are unknown people, they said but We have come to You with that about which they were in doubt, and We have come to you with truth, and indeed, We are truthful", that is, when the Angels came to the family of Prophet Lot, He did not know them and said ''You are unknown people", so the Angels reassured Him and said that they are Allah's Messengers and that they brought the destruction and punishment about which His people used to doubt as they said to the Prophet Lot when He commanded them not to approach the men, cut off the road, and commit evil in their meetings "Bring us the punishment of Allah if you are of the truthful" as mentioned in Aya (29) of Surat Alankaboot, so the Angels said that they have come with the truth from Allah, and they were truthful in what they told him about the destruction of his people and the salvation of Him and His family, except for His wife.
Allah says in the next two verses (65,66) "So Set out with Your family during a portion of the night and Follow their backs and Let not anyone among you look back and Continue on to where you are commanded, and We conveyed to Him that matter, that the root of these would be cut off by early morning", that is, the Angels commanded the Prophet Lot to walk with His family when a part of the night will pass, to walk behind His family lest any of them fall behind and be punished, and the Angels commanded them not to look back so that they move far away from the town before the dawn comes upon them, and to go on where they are commanded, and Allah conveyed to the Prophet Lot that His people will be annihilated from the first to the last in the early morning.
Allah says in the next five verses (67-71) "And the people of the town came rejoicing, He said indeed these are My guests so Do not shame Me, and Fear Allah and Do not disgrace Me, they said Have we not forbidden You from the world?, He said these are My daughters if you would be doers", that is, when the people of the Prophet Lot heard that guests had visited Him, they came to Him, rejoicing about them and hoping to practice sodomy with them, thereupon, the Prophet Lot said to them that they are His guests, and commanded them not to shame Him by demanding shameful acts, commanded them to fear Allah lest His punishment befalls them, and commanded them not to disgrace Him by harming His guests with unpleasant things, so they said to Him Did we not forbid You from hosting anyone?, then the Prophet Lot commanded them to marry women, and not to have sexual intercourse with men, and said these are My daughters if you would obey My command to marry women.
Allah says in the next six verses (72-77) "By Your life, indeed, they were in their intoxication, wandering, so the blast seized them at sunrise, and We made the highest of it its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay, indeed, in that there are signs for those who discern, and indeed, it is on an established road, indeed, in that there is a sign for the believers", that is, Allah swears by the life of His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH), and He did not swear by anyone in the Holy Quran except Him, and says that the people of the Prophet Lot wandered blindly in their intoxication of misguidance and stubbornness, so they insisted on disbelief, therefore, the blast seized them at sunrise, and Allah made the higher part of their town is the lowest, and rained upon them stones of hard clay, then Allah assures that in their destruction are signs for those who discern and give thought; For they look at Allah's signs and be admonished by the consequence of those who disobeyed Allah and opposed His Messengers, then Allah assures that the town of the Prophet Lot is on an established road as the people of Quraish used to pass by this town in the morning and at night as mentioned in Ayat (137,138) of Surat Alsaffat, and in that there is a sign for the believers who believe that the rule of Allah is to save the believers and destroy the disbelievers.
Allah says in the next two verses (78,79) "And indeed, the companions of the Aykah were wrongdoers, so We took vengeance on them, and indeed, both are on a clear pathway", that is, Allah tells about the companions of the Ayka, and they are the people of Madyan to whom the Prophet Shu'ayb, peace be upon Him, was sent, but they denied Him as mentioned at length in Surat Alshu'araa Ayat (176-189), where the Prophet Shu'ayb called them to fear Allah, and commanded them not to make the weight deficient, rather to weigh with an even balance, and He forbade them from spreading corruption in the land, oppressing its people, and cutting off the roads, but they denied Him and asked for Allah's punishment if He is of the truthful, so Allah has taken revenge on the people of Shu'ayb and combined three types of punishment for them, and they were the blast as mentioned in Aya (94) of Surat Hud, the earthquake as mentioned in Aya (91) of Surat Ala'raf, and the punishment of the day of shadow as mentioned in Aya (189) of Surat Alshu'araa, and it was the punishment of a great day, and Allah assures that the town of the Aykah and the town of the people of the Prophet Lot were on a clear pathway, and they both were close in distance from each other as the Prophet Shu'ayb said to them in Aya (89) of Surat Hud "And the people of Lot are not from you far away".
Allah says in the next five verses (80-84) "And indeed, the companions of Alhijr denied the Messengers, and We gave them Our signs, but from them they were turning away, and they used to carve houses from the mountains, secure, then the blast seized them by early morning, so they were not availed by what they used to earn", that is, Allah tells about the companions of Alhijr, and they are the people of Thamud to whom the Prophet Salih, peace be upon Him, was sent, but they denied Him, when Allah sent the she-camel as a visible sign that indicates Allah's power and the truthfulness of His Messenger Salih, but they turned away from Allah's signs and killed the she-camel as mentioned in Aya (157) of Surat Alshu'araa, and they were dexterous in carving houses from the mountains while they were secure, and as narrated by Abdullah bin Umar: "The people landed at the land of Thamud called Alhijr along with Allah's Messenger (PBUH) and they took water from its well for drinking and kneading the dough with it as well, Allah's Messenger ordered them to pour out the water they had taken from its wells and feed the camels with the dough, and ordered them to take water from the well whence the she-camel used to drink" (Sahih Albukhari 3379), and Abdullah bin Umar also said: "Allah's Messenger said about the companions of Alhijr Do not enter the dwellings of these people unless you enter weeping, but if you weep not, then Do not enter upon them lest you be afflicted with what they were afflicted with" (Sahih Albukhari 4702). Thereupon, the Prophet Salih said to them 'Enjoy in your homes for three days" as mentioned in Surat Hud Aya (65), then in the early morning of the fourth day, the punishment seized them and Allah destroyed them by the overpowering blast and what they collected of wealth did not avail them from Allah's punishment, and the bad consequence of their evil deeds in the worldly life befell them.
Allah says in the next two verses (85,86) "And We did not create the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them except in truth, and indeed, the Hour is surely coming, so Leave them with a generous departure, and indeed, You Lord is the Supreme Creator, the All-Knower", that is, Allah confirms that He did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them in vain, but rather He created them in truth, and that the Hour (The day of resurrection) will inevitably happen and no doubt about its occurrence, and Allah hides its arrival and it will come suddenly so that every soul may be recompensed for what it does of evil or good, of obedience or disobedience as mentioned in Aya (15) of Surat Ta Ha, then Allah commanded His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) to leave the polytheists of Quraish with a generous departure, and it was said that this verse was abrogated later when Allah commanded the believers to fight the polytheists in more than one verse as in Surat Alhajj Aya (39), Surat Altawbah Aya (36), and Surat Alanfal Aya (57), where Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said in narration of Ibn Umar "I have been ordered to fight against the people until they testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and that Muhammad is Allah's Messenger, and offer the prayers perfectly, and give the obligatory charity, so if they perform that, then they save their lives and property from Me except for Islamic laws, and then their reckoning will be done by Allah" (Sahih Albukhari 25). Then Allah assures that He is Able to establish the Hour and to revive them on the day of resurrection as He is the Supreme Creator, the All-Knower as nothing is hidden from Him in the heavens nor on the earth, and when He intends a thing, He just says to it Be, and it comes to be.
Allah says in the next three verses (87-89) ''And indeed, We have given You seven of the oft-repeated and the Great Quran, Do not extend your eyes towards that by which We gave enjoyment to pairs of them, and Do not grieve over them, and Lower Your wing to the believers, and Say indeed, I am the clear Warner'', that is, Allah addresses His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) and says that He has given Him the Holy Quran, including Surat Alfatihah which is the seven oft-repeated and the Great Quran, and it was called "Alsab' Almathani" because it consists of seven verses that are repeated in each rak'ah of any prayer, obligatory or supererogatory, where Allah's Messenger said in narration of Abu Hurayrah: "If anyone observes prayer in which he does not recite the opening of the book ''Surat Alfatihah", his prayer is deficient, He repeated it thrice" (Sahih Muslim 395 c).
And as narrated by Abu Hurayrah: "The Messenger of Allah came out to Ubayy bin Ka'b, and the Messenger of Allah said O Ubayy! And he was performing the prayer, and Ubayy turned around but he did not respond to Him, so Ubayy finished his prayer quickly, then he turned to the Messenger of Allah and said Alsalamu alaiykum: peace be upon you O Messenger of Allah! The Messenger of Allah said wa alaiykum Alslam: and peace be upon you, what prevented you from responding to Me when I called you Ubayy?, he said O Messenger of Allah I was performing the prayer, so He said Do you not find among what Allah revealed to Me Respond to Allah and to the Messenger when they call you to what gives you life?, He said Of course, I shall not repeat that, if Allah wills, Allah's Messenger said would you like for Me to teach you a Surah the like of which has neither been revealed in the Torah, nor the Gospel, nor the Psalms, nor in the Criterion?, he said yes O Messenger of Allah! The Messenger of Allah said What do you recite in your prayer?, he said I recite Umm Alquran (Surat Alfatihah), the Messenger of Allah said by the One in whose Hand is My soul! The like of it has neither been revealed in the Torah, nor the Gospel, nor the Psalms, nor in the Criterion. It is the seven oft-repeated and the Great Quran which I was given (Altirmidhi 2875). Then Allah commanded His Messenger not to look at the affluent people of Quraish; Because the bliss they enjoy is nothing but the adornment of the worldly life for it is impermanent, and not to grieve over the polytheists who deny Him and deny what He has brought them form Allah, and Allah commanded Him to be kind to those who follow Him of the believers, and to says that He is the clear Warner to the people of a painful torment that will befall them if they deny Him, just as it befell those before them of the previous nations who denied their Messengers.
Allah says in the next four verses (90-93) "Just as We revealed to the separators, those who made the Quran into portions, so by Your Lord, We will surely question them all, about what they used to do", that is, the people of the scriptures like the Jews and the Christians divided their books and believed in some and disbelieved in some, where the Jews acknowledged part of the Torah and denied part of it, and denied the Gospel and the Criterion, and the Christians acknowledged part of the Gospel and denied part of it and the Criterion, and Ibn Abbas said regarding "Just as We revealed to the separators" that the Jews and the Christians believed in part of it and disbelieved in the other (Sahih Albukhari 4706), they also made the Holy Quran into portions and believed in some and disbelieved in some, thereupon, Allah swears By Himself and assures that He will surely question them all on the day of resurrection about what they used to do in the worldly life.
Allah says in the next three verses (94-96) "Then Declare what You are commanded and Turn away from the polytheists, indeed, We are Sufficient for You against the mockers, those who make another god along with Allah, so they will know'', that is, Allah commanded His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) to convey His message to the people, and to turn away from the polytheists, and this was before the command to fight the infidels as shown above in Aya (85), so Allah urges His Messenger to turn away from the polytheists for they want to avert Him from the verses of Allah and used to mock at the Holy Quran and Allah's Messenger, and He reassured Him that He will protect Him from them and He is Sufficient for Him against the mockers, those who worshipped another god along with Allah, and they will know the consequence of their mockery and disbelief on the day of resurrection.
Allah says in the last three verses (97-99) "And indeed, We know that Your breast straitens by what they say, so Glorify with the praise of Your Lord and Be of those who prostrate, and Worship Your Lord until there comes to You the certainty", that is, Allah knows that His Messenger distressed by what the polytheists of Quraish say and accuse Him of, where they used to say that He is a magician, a poet, or a madman, thereupon, Allah commanded Him not to grieve over their saying, and not to let them deter Him from conveying the message of Allah, but rather to seek help through remembrance and prayer by glorifying with the praise of His Lord, and being among those who prostrate, and Allah is Sufficient for Him, then Allah commanded Him to worship Him alone sincerely until there comes the time of death which is the absolute certainty.
