14- Surat Ibrahim

52 Verses Meccan (revealed in Mecca)

A'auzu Bellahi mena alshaiytani alrajeem

I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan

Besmi Ellahi Alrhmani Alraheem

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Alif Lam Raa ketabun anzalnahuo elaiyka le-tukhreja alnasa mena alzulumati ela alnuori be-izni Rabbehim ela serati Alazeezi Alhameed (1).
Alif Lam Raa a book which We have sent down to You, that You may bring the people out of the darknesses to the light by the permission of their Lord to the path of the Almighty, the Praiseworthy.

Allahi allazi lahuo ma fee alsamawati wa ma fee alardi wa waiylun lel-kafereena men azabin shadeed (2).
Allah, the One to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, and woe to the disbelievers from a severe punishment.

Allazina yastahebbuona alhayata alduonya ala alakherati wa yasudduona an sabeeli ellahi wa yabghuonaha ewajan aulaeka fee dalalin ba-eed (3).
Those who prefer the worldly life over the Hereafter and prevent from the way of Allahseeking to make it crookedness, those are in far error.

Wa ma arsalna men rasulin ella be-lesani qawmehi le-youbaiyyina lahum fa-youdelluo Allahu man yasha-uo wa yahdi man yasha-uo wa huwa Alazeezu Alhakeem (4).
And We did not send any Messenger except with the tongue of His people, so that He might make clear to them, and Allah lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills and He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.

Wa laqad arsalna Musa be-ayatena an akhrej qawmaka mena alzulumati ela alnuori wa zakkerhum be-ayyami ellahi inna fee zaleka la-ayatin le-kulli sabbarin shakuor (5).
And indeed, We have sent Moses with Our signs that Bring Your people out of the darknesses to the light and remind them of the days of Allahindeed, in that there are signs for everyone patient, grateful.

Wa iz qala Musa le-qawmehi auzkuruo ne'mata Allahi alaiykum iz anjakum men ali fer'awna yasumunakum su-a alazabi wa youzabbehuona abna-akum wa yastahyouna nesa-akum wa fee zalekum bala-on men Rabbekum azeem (6).
And when Moses said to His people Remember the favor of Allah upon you when He saved you from the people of Pharaoh, who were afflicting you with the worst of punishment and were slaughtering your sons and keeping your women alive, and in that there was a great trial from your Lord.

Wa iz ta-azzana Rabbukum la-in shakartum la-azidannakum wa la-in kafartum inna azabi la-shadeed (7).
And when your Lord declared that if you are grateful, I will surely increase you, but if you disbelieved, indeed, My punishment is severe.

Wa qala Musa in takfuruo antum wa man fee alardi jamee-an fa-inna Allaha la-ghaniyyun Hameed (8).
And Moses said if you disbelieve you and all those on the earth, then indeed, Allah is Free of need, Praiseworthy .

Alam ya'tekum naba-a allazina men qablekum qawmi nuhin wa adin wa thamuda wa allazina men ba'dehim la ya'lamuhum ella Allahu ja-at-hum rusuluhum bel-bayyinati fa-radduo aiydiyahum fee afwahehim wa qaluo inna kafarna be-ma aurseltum behi wa inna la-fee shakkin memma tad-unana elaiyhi mureeb (9).
Has not come to you the news of those before you, the people of Noah and Ad and Thamud and of those after them, no one knows them except Allah, their Messengers came to them with clear proofs, but they turned their hands into their mouths and said indeed, we disbelieved in what you have been sent with, and indeed, we are in doubt about what you are calling us to, confusing.

Qalat rusuluhum a-fee ellahi shakkun fateri alsamawati wa alardi yad-ukum le-yaghfera lakum men zunubekum wa you-akhkherakum ela ajalimn musamman qaluo in antum ella basharun methluna tureeduona an tasudduona amma kana Ya'buduo aba-uona fa'tuona be-sultanin mubeen (10).
Their Messengers said Is there any doubt about Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth?, He calls you, so that He may forgive you of your sins and delay you to an appointed time, they said You are nothing but human beings like us, You wish to prevent us from what our fathers used to worship, so Bring us a clear authority.

Qalat lahum rusuluhum in nahnuo ella basharun methlukum wa lakenna Allaha yamunnuo ala man yasha-uo men ebadehi wa ma kana lana an na'teiyakum be-sultanin ella be-izni ellahi wa ala Allahi fal-yatawakkali almu'menuon (11).
Their Messengers said to them we are only human beings like you but Allah bestows favor upon whom He wills of His servants, it is not for us to bring you an authority except by the permission of Allah, and upon Allah let the believers put their trust.

Wa ma lana alla natawakkala ala Allahi wa qad hadana subulana wa la-nasberanna ala ma azaiytumuona wa ala Allahi fal-yatawakkali almutawakkeluon (12).
And what is with us that We should not put our trust upon Allah while He guided us to our ways?, and we will surely be patient over whatever harm you should cause us, and upon Allah let those who would rely put their trust.

Wa qala allazina kafaruo le-rusulehim la-nukhrejannakum men ardena aww la-ta-udunna fe mellatina fa-awha elaiyhim Rabbuhum la-nuhlekanna alzalemeen (13).
And those who disbelieved said to their Messengers we will surely expel you from our land, or you must return to our religion, so their Lord revealed to them We will surely destroy the wrongdoers.

Wa la-nuskenannakumuo alarda men ba'dehim zaleka le-man khafa maqami wa khafa wa-eed (14).
And We will surely make you to dwell in the land after them, that is for he who fears My position and fears My warning.

Wa-staftahuo wa khaba kulluo jabbarin aneed (15).
And they requested conquest, and every stubborn tyrant has failed.

Men wara-ehi jahannamuo wa yousqa men ma-in sadeed (16).
Before him is Hellfire, and he will be made to drink of purulent water.

Yatajarra-uhuo wa la yakaduo youseghuhuo wa ya'teehi almawtuo men kulli makanin wa ma huwa be-mayyitin wa men wara-ehi azabun ghaleez (17).
He will gulp it but will hardly swallow it, and death will come to him from every place, but he is not to die, and before him is a severe punishment.

Mathaluo allazina kafaruo be-rabbehim a'maluhum ka-ramadin eshtaddat behi alrehuo fee yawmin asefin la yaqderuona mamma kasabuo ala shaiy-in zaleka huwa aldalaluo alba-eed (18).
The example of those who disbelieve in their Lord is their deeds are like ashes which the wind blows forcefully on a stormy day, they are unable from what they earned a thing, that is what is far error.

Alam tara anna Allaha khalaqa alsamawati wa alarda bel-haqqi in yasha' youzhebkum wa ya'ti be-khalqin jadeed (19).
Do You not see that Allah created the heavens and the earth in truth?, If He wills, He can do away with you, and bring a new creation.

Wa ma zaleka ala Allhi be-azeez (20).
And that is not difficult for Allah.

Wa barazuo le-llahi jamee-an fa-qala aldu-afa-uo le-llazina estakbaruo inna kunna lakum taba-an fa-hal antum mughnuona anna men azabi ellahi men shaiy-in qaluo laww hadana Allahu la-hadaiynakum sawa-on alaiyna a-jaze'na am sabarna ma lana men mahees (21).
And they will come forth before Allah all together, then the weak said to those who were arrogant, we were followers for you, so Would you relieve us anything against the punishment of Allah?, they will say if Allah had guided us, we would have guided you, it is all the same for us whether we are fearful or are patient, there is for us no refuge.

Wa qala alshaiytanuo lamma qudeiya al-amruo inna Allaha wa-adakum wa'da alhaqqi wa wa-adtukum fa-akhlaftukum wa ma kana leya alaiykum men sultanin ella an da-awtukum fa-stajabtum lee fa-la talumuoni wa lumuo anfusakum ma ana be-musrekhekum wa ma antum be-musrekhiyya inni kafartuo be-ma ashraktumuoni men qabluo inna alzalemeena lahum azabun aleem (22).
And Satan will say when the matter has been decided, indeed, Allah had promised you the promise of truth, and I had promised you, but I did not fulfill it, but I had no authority over you except that I invited you, and you responded to me, so Do not blame me, but blame yourselves, I would not be your helper, nor would you be my helper, indeed, I deny your association of me before, indeed, for the wrongdoers is a painful punishment.

Wa audkhela allazina amanuo wa ameluo alsalehati jannatin tajree men tahteha al-anharuo khaledeena feeha be-izni Rabbehim tahiyyatuhum feeha salam (23).
And those who believed and done righteous deeds will be admitted to gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein forever by the permission of their Lord, their greeting therein will be peace.

Alam tara kaiyfa daraba Allahu mathalan kalematan tayyibatan ka-shajaratin tayyibatin asluha thabetun wa far-uha fee alsama' (24).
Do You not see how Allah cites an example, a good word like a good tree whose root is firmly fixed and its branches in the sky?.

Tu'tee aukulaha kulla heenin be-izni Rabbeha wa yadrebuo Allahu al-amthala lel-nasi la-allahum yatazakkaruon (25).
It produces its fruit every time by the permission of its Lord, and Allah cites the examples for the people so that they may remember.

Wa mathaluo kalematin khabethatin ka-shajaratin khabethatin ejtuththat men fawqi alardi ma laha men qarar (26).
And the example of a bad word is like a bad tree uprooted from the surface of the earth, not having any stability.

Youthabbetuo Allahu allazina amanuo bel-qawli althabeti fee alhayati alduonya wa fee alakherati wa youdelluo Allahu alzalemeena wa yaf-aluo Allahu ma yasha' (27).
Allah keeps firm those who believe with the firm word in the worldly life and in the Hereafter, and Allah lets the wrongdoers go astray, and Allah does what He wills.

Alam tara ela allazina baddaluo ne'mata Allahi kufran wa ahalluo qawmahum dara albawar (28).
Do you not see those who exchanged the favor of Allah for disbelief, and settled their people the home of ruin?.

Jahannama yaslawnaha wa be'sa alqarar (29).
Hellfire, they will burn therein, and wretched is the abode.

Wa ja-aluo le-llahi andadan le-youdelluo an sabeelehi qul tamatta-uo fe-inna maseerakum ela alnar (30).
And they have made equals to Allah so that they lead astray from His way, Say Enjoy, for indeed, your fate is to the fire.

Qul le-ebadiya allazina amanuo youqeemuo alsalata wa younfequo memma razaqnahum serran wa alaniyatan men qabli an ya'tiya yawmun la baiy-on feehi wa khelal (31).
Say to My servants who have believed to establish the prayer and spend from what We have provided them secretly and openly, before a day comes in which there will be no exchange nor any friendships.

Allahu allazi khalaqa alsamawati wa alarda wa anzala mena alsama-e ma-an fa-akhraja behi mena althamarati rezqan lakum wa sakhkhara lakumuo alfulka le-tajreiya fee albahri be-amrehi wa sakhkhara lakumuo al-anhar (32).
Allah, the One who has created the heavens and the earth and sent down water from the sky, and brought forth thereby from the fruits as a provision for you and subjected for you the ships to sail through the sea by His command, and subjected for you the rivers.

Wa sakhkhara lakumuo alshamsa wa alqamara da-ebaiyni wa sakhkhara lakumuo al-laila wa alnahar (33).
And He subjected for you the sun and the moon, continuous and subjected for you the night and the day.

Wa atakum men kulli ma sa-altumuhuo wa in ta-udduo ne'mata Allahi la tuhsuoha inna alinsana la-zalumun kaffar (34).
And He gave you from all you asked of Him, and if you should count the favors of Allah, you could not enumerate them, indeed, man is most unjust, a severe disbeliever.

Wa iz qala Ibrahimu Rabbi ej'al haza albalada amenan wa-jnubni wa baniyya an na'buda al-asnam (35).
And when Abraham said My Lord Make this city secure and Keep Me and My sons away from worshipping idols.

Rabbi innahunna adlalna katheeran mena alnasi fa-man tabe-ani fa-innahuo menni wa man asani fa-innaka Ghafurun Raheem (36).
My Lord indeed, they have led astray many among the people, so whoever follows Me, then he is of Me, and whoever disobeys Me, indeed, You are All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Rabbana inni askantuo men zurriyyati be-wadin ghaiyri zee zar-in enda baiyteka almuharrami Rabbana le-youqemuo alsalata faj'al af-edatan mena alnasi tahwi elaiyhim wa-rzuk-hum mena althamarati la-allahum yashkuruon (37).
Our Lord, I have settled some of My progeny in an uncultivated valley near Your Sacred House, Our Lord that they may establish the prayer, so Make hearts among the people incline towards them, and Provide them from the fruits, so that they may give thanks.

Rabbana innaka ta'lamuo ma nukhfi wa ma nu'lenuo wa ma yakhfa ala Allahi men shaiy-in fee al-ardi wa la fee alsama' (38).
Our Lord indeed, You know what we conceal and what we declare, and nothing is hidden from Allah on the earth or in the heaven.

Alhamduo le-llahi allazi wahaba lee ala alkebari Ismaila wa Ishaqa inna Rabbi la-semeeuo aldu-a' (39).
Praise be to Allah, the One who has granted Me in the old age Ishmael and Issac, indeed, My Lord is All-Hearing of supplication.

Rabbi ej-alni muqeema alsalati wa men zurriyyati Rabbana wa taqabbal du-a' (40).
My Lord Make Me an establisher of the prayer and from My progeny, Our Lord and Accept My supplication.

Rabbana eghfir lee wa le-walidayya wa lel-mu'meneena yawma yaqumuo alhesab (41).
Our Lord Forgive Me and My parents and the believers the day when the reckoning is established.

Wa la tahsabanna Allaha ghafilan amma ya'maluo alzalemuona innama you-akhkheruhum le-yawmin tashkhasuo feehi al-absar (42).
And Do not think that Allah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do, He only delays them for a day in which the eyes will stare.

Muhte-ena muqne-e ru-usehim la yartadduo elaiyhim tarfuhum wa af-edatuhum hawa' (43).
Racing ahead, raising their heads, their gaze does not come back to them, and their hearts are empty.

Wa anziri alnasa yawma ya'teehimuo alazabuo fa-yaquluo allazina zalamuo Rabbana akhkhirna ela ajalin qareebin nujeb da'wataka wa nattabe-e alrusula awa-lam takunuo aqsamtum men qabluo ma lakum men zawal (44).
And Warn the people of a day when the punishment will come to them, and those who wronged will say our Lord Delay us for a near term, we will answer Your call and follow the Messengers, Had you not sworn before that for you there would be no transition?.

Wa sakantum fee masakeni allazina zalamuo anfusahum wa tabaiyyana lakum kaiyfa darabna lakumuo al-amthal (45).
And you dwelt in the dwellings of those who wronged themselves, and it had become clear to you how We dealt with them, and We cited for you the examples.

Wa qad makaruo makrahum wa enda Allahi makruhum wa in kana makruhum le-tazula menhuo aljebal (46).
And they plotted their plot, but with Allah is their plot though their plot had been to do away with the mountains.

Fa-la tahsabbana Allaha mukhlefa wa'dehi rusulahuo inna Allaha Azzezun zu entiqam (47).
So Do not think that Allah will break His promise to His Messengers, indeed, Allah is Almighty, the Possessor of vengeance.

Yawma tubaddaluo al-arduo ghaiyra al-ardi wa lasamawatuo wa barazuo le-llahi Alwahedi Alqahhar (48).
The day the earth will be replaced by another earth and the heavens, and they will come forth before Allah, the One, the Oft-Omnipotent.

Wa tara almujremeena yawma-izin muqarraneena fee al-asfad (49).
And you will see the criminals that day bound together in shackles.

Sarabeluhum men qatranin wa taghsha wujuhahumuo alnar (50).
Their garment of pitch and their faces covered by the fire.

Le-yajzeiya Allahu kulla nafsin ma kasabat inna Allaha Saree-o alhesab (51).
So that Allah will recompense every soul for what it earned, indeed, Allah is Swift in reckoning.

Haza balaghun lel-nasi wa le-younzaruo behi wa le-ya'lamuo annama huwa ilahun wahedun wa le-yazzakkara auluo al-albab (52).
This is a notification for the people that they may be warned thereby, and that they may know that He is but One God, and so that those of understanding may remember.

Simplified interpretation:

Surat Ibrahim begins with three letters of the Arabic language, just like 28 Surahs of the Holy Quran that start with individual letters ranging from one to five letters. It is noticeable that in all 29 Surahs the book or the Holy Quran is mentioned whether it is immediately after these letters or it is included in the Surah or even at the end of it. It is a challenge from Allah, Almighty, to the infidels of Quraish, as if Allah says to them this is the book in the letters of the language you speak, but you will not be able to produce the like of it, and He has already challenged them in Aya (88) of Surat Alisraa "Say, if mankind and the Jinn gathered in order to produce the like of this Quran, they could not produce the like of it, even if they were to each other assistants". As for the current Surah, it begins with three letters "Alif, Lam, and Raa" or "A, L, and R" in English followed by "These are the verses of the book and a clear Quran", but the knowledge of these letters remains with Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

Allah says in the first three verses (1-3) "Alif Lam Raa a book which We have sent down to You, that You may bring the people out of the darknesses to the light by the permission of their Lord to the path of the Almighty, the Praiseworthy, Allah, the One to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, and woe to the disbelievers from a severe punishment, those who prefer the worldly life over the Hereafter and prevent from the way of Allahseeking to make it crookedness, those are in far error", that is, Allah addresses His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) and says that He has sent down the Holy Quran upon Him, so that He may bring the people out of the darknesses of disbelief and misguidance to the light of faith and guidance by the permission of Allah; For Allah guides whom He wills and lets go astray whom He wills as will come later in Aya (4), so Allah's Messenger has to convey Allah's message to the people, and Allah guides whom He wills to the path of  the Almighty who is Severe in His revenge on those who disobeyed Him, the Praiseworthy of all what He decrees. Allah, the One to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth as He disposes the matter of all creatures as He wills. Then Allah threatens the disbelievers with a painful torment and says "Woe to the disbelievers from a severe punishment", so their recompense will be Hellfire on the day of resurrection where the word woe (Wail) idiomatically carries the meaning of destruction and perishing and means that the torment will be for them as a recompense for their deeds. Then Allah describes the disbelievers and says that they are those who prefer the worldly life and its fleeting pleasures over the Hereafter and its eternal bliss, and prevent others from the way of Allah, seeking the path of Allah to be crooked and distorted in order to agree with their desires and fulfill their needs and purposes, thereupon, Allah assures that such people are in extreme astray from the truth and the path of guidance.

Allah says in the next verse (4) "And We did not send any Messenger except with the tongue of His people, so that He might make clear to them, and Allah lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills and He is the Almighty, the All-Wise", that is, the rule of Allah is that He did not send any Messenger except in the own language of His people, so that He may make clear to them what He has sent with of Allah's commands and prohibitions, and Allah lets go astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills, and He is the Almighty who is Severe in His revenge on those who disobeyed Him, the All-Wise who manages His creation with wisdom in His laws and destiny. So every Messenger was limited to conveying His message to his people only, but the Messenger of Allah Muhammad (PBUH) was singled out of the generality of His message to all people, where Allah says to Him in Aya (28) of Surat Saba' "And We did not send You except to all mankind, a bearer of glad tidings and a warner, but most people do not know", and Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said in narration of Jabir bin Abdullah: "I have been given five things which were not given to anyone else before Me, Allah made Me victorious by awe (By His frightening My enemies) for a distance of one month's journey, the earth has been made for Me a place for praying, and a thing to perform Tayammum, therefore, anyone of My followers can pray wherever the time of the prayer is due, the booty has been made lawful for Me yet it was not lawful for anyone else before Me, I have been given the right of intercession (on the day of resurrection), and every Prophet used to be sent to His nation only, but I have been sent to all mankind" (Sahih Albukhari 335), therefore, Allah's Messenger said in narration of Abu Hurayrah: "By Him in whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, no one of this nation, whether Jew or Christian, hears of Me then dies while he does not believe in what I was sent with, except that he will be among the companions of Hell" (Sahih Muslim 153).

Allah says in the next verse (5) "And indeed, We have sent Moses with Our signs that Bring Your people out of the darknesses to the light and remind them of the days of Allahindeed, in that there are signs for everyone patient, grateful", that is, Allah has sent His Messenger Moses, peace be upon Him, to the Children of Israel with Allah's signs which indicate Allah's Oneness and the truthfulness of the Prophet Moses, and they were nine signs as mentioned in Aya (101) of Surat Alisraa, and Allah commanded Him to bring His people out of the darknesses of disbelief and misguidance to the light of faith and guidance, and to remind them of every day of Allah in which He bestowed upon them a blessing, such as the day in which He saved them from Pharaoh and drowned Pharaoh and his people, the day when Allah appointed for them the right side of Altour on which Allah gave Moses the Torah, and the day when He sent down to them the Mann and the Salwa as mentioned in Aya (80) of Surat Ta Ha, and in that there are signs for every patient, grateful: For he must be thankful for Allah's blessings when He bestowed upon him, and must be patient with the trial if Allah tried him with a calamity, where as narrated by Suhaib that Allah's Messenger said: "How amazing is the matter of the believer that his affairs are all good, and that is not for anyone except for the believer, if he was bestowed with a blessing, he thanks, and this is good for him, and if a calamity befell him, he was patient, and that is good for him" (Sahih Muslim 2999).

Allah says in the next two verses (6,7) "And when Moses said to His people Remember the favor of Allah upon you when He saved you from the people of Pharaoh, who were afflicting you with the worst of punishment and were slaughtering your sons and keeping your women alive, and in that there was a great trial from your Lord, and when your Lord declared that if you are grateful, I will surely increase you, but if you disbelieved, indeed, My punishment is severe'', that is, the Prophet Moses began to remind His people of the days of Allah and the favors He has bestowed upon them, and He said to them remind the favor of Allah when He saved you from the People of Pharaoh who used to oppress you by using you in the worst jobs, toiling you day and night, killing your sons, and keeping your women alive; For Pharaoh has been informed that there might be a boy from among them who would be the cause of the destruction and the collapse of his kingdom, and he repeated the same thing when they believed in Moses as mentioned in Aya (127) of Surat Ala'raf, and in that affliction was great trial from Allah to the Children of Israel in which there was a great blessing for the patient, then the Prophet Moses said to them that Allah declare that if they give thanks to Allah for His blessings, He will surely increase them of His blessings, but if they disbelieved, are ungrateful to Allah and denied that He is the One who bestows His blessings upon them, then indeed, the punishment of Allah is severe in Hellfire on the day of resurrection.

Allah says in the next verse (8) "And Moses said if you disbelieve you and all those on the earth, then indeed, Allah is Free of need, Praiseworthy", that is, the Prophet Moses said to His people if you disbelieved in Allah and denied the blessings He bestowed upon you, and all those on the earth did the same, then indeed, Allah is Free of need, Praiseworthy as He owns all things and all human beings need their Lord for He is the Creator and the Provider while He is Free of need of them, and He is the Praiseworthy of all what He decrees, and Allah says in Alhadith Alqudsi as reported by Abu Dharr from Allah's Messenger (PBUH): ''O My servants! Were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you, and the Jinn of you to be as pious as the most pious heart of anyone of you, that would not increase My dominion in anything, O My servant! Were the first of you, and the last of you, the human of you, and the Jinn of you to be as wicked as the most wicked heart of anyone of you, that would not decrease My dominion in anything" (Sahih Muslin 2577).

Allah says in the next verse (9) "Has not come to you the news of those before you, the people of Noah and Ad and Thamud and of those after them, no one knows them except Allah, their Messengers came to them with clear proofs, but they turned their hands into their mouths and said indeed, we disbelieved in what you have been sent with, and indeed, we are in doubt about what you are calling us to, confusing'', that is, Allah cites to the people Quraish the story of the previous nations who denied their Messengers and how was the end of the disbelievers, and says Has not come to them the news of those before them, the people of the Prophet Noah, Ad (the people of the Prophet Hud), Thamud (the people of the Prophet Salih), and the news of those after them, no one knows them except Allah for Allah did not till about all the Messengers in the Holy Quran as He says to His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) in Aya (164) of Surat Alnisa' "And Messengers about whom We have related to You before, and Messengers whom We have not related to You". When their Messengers came to them with the clear proofs and the arguments that indicate Allah's Oneness and the truthfulness of what they came with, they turned their hands into their mouths; Because of the anger and hatred they find in their hearts for what their Messengers call to, then they said to their Messengers that they disbelieved in what they have been sent with, and that they are in confusing doubt about what they are calling them to, regarding worshipping Allah alone with no partners.

Allah says in the next verse (10) "Their Messengers said Is there any doubt about Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth?, He calls you, so that He may forgive you of your sins and delay you to an appointed time, they said You are nothing but human beings like us, You wish to prevent us from what our fathers used to worship, so Bring us a clear authority'', that is, the Messengers said to the disbelievers Is there a doubt about the existence of Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth?, He calls you to acknowledge His Oneness and worship Him alone with no partner, so that He may forgive you of your sins and delay you to an appointed term which is the term of your death or the day of resurrection, so He will not hasten the punishment for you in the worldly life if you believed in Him and did righteous deeds, but the disbelievers argued with their Messengers and said to them you are nothing but human beings like us, so How did Allah reveal the message to you from among us?, you wish to prevent us from the religion of our forefathers and the idols that we used to worship, so Bring us a clear sign that shows us the truthfulness and the validity of what you say.

Allah says in the next two verses (11,12) "Their Messengers said to them we are only human beings like you but Allah bestows favor upon whom He wills of His servants, it is not for us to bring you an authority except by the permission of Allah, and upon Allah let the believers put their trust, and what is with us that We should not put our trust upon Allah while He guided us to our ways?, and we will surely be patient over whatever harm you should cause us, and upon Allah let those who would rely put their trust", that is, the Messengers said to the disbelievers that they are human beings like them, but Allah bestows the prophecy and the message upon whom He wills of His servants, they only have to convey Allah's message to them and it is not for them to bring a sign except by the permission of Allah, and upon Allah let the believers put their trust and submit all their affairs to Him alone. Then the Messengers said to them what prevents us from putting our trust upon Allah while He has guided us to the straightest and clearest path, and we will surely be patient over whatever harm you should cause us whether insulting, hitting or killing, for we trust in Allah and in what He promised us, so let those who trust put their trust upon Allah alone.

Allah says in the next two verses (13,14) "And those who disbelieved said to their Messengers we will surely expel you from our land, or you must return to our religion, so their Lord revealed to them We will surely destroy the wrongdoers, and We will surely make you to dwell in the land after them, that is for he who fears My position and fears My warning", that is, the disbelievers said to their Messengers when they called them to worship Allah alone that they will expel them from their land or the Messengers return to the religion they follow of worshipping idols, but Allah reassured the Messengers and revealed to them that He will destroy the wrongdoers who wrong themselves with disbelief and tyranny, and that He will make them inherit their land, and that is the decree of Allah for the Messengers who fear the position of their Lord so they fear the standing before Him for reckoning on the day of resurrection, and fear Allah's threat of the punishment and the horrors of the Hereafter, where Allah says in Aya (21) of Surat Almujadilah "Allah has written I will surely overcome, Me and My Messengers, indeed, Allah is All-Powerful, All-Mighty".

Allah says in the next three verses (15-17) "And they requested conquest, and every stubborn tyrant has failed, before him is Hellfire, and he will be made to drink of purulent water, he will gulp it but will hardly swallow it, and death will come to him from every place, but he is not to die, and before him is a severe punishment", that is, the Messengers asked Allah for help against their people and the destruction of their people, so Allah responded to them, and every stubborn tyrant who deviated from acknowledging the monotheism of Allah has failed in the worldly life, and Hellfire awaits him on the day of resurrection, and he will be made to drink of purulent water where he has no drink except boiling water and pus as mentioned in Ayat (24,25) of Surat Alnaba', and he will gulp purulent water unwillingly, and he will hardly swallow it because of its bad color, taste, and smell, and death will come to him from everywhere, from the right and the left, above him and below him, and before him and behind him, but he will not die; For it will not be decreed for the companions of Hellfire that they will die nor will its torment be lightened for them as mentioned in Aya (36) of Surat Fatir, and after this punishment, he will have another painful and severe punishment, more severe than the one before it.

Allah says in the next verse (18) "The example of those who disbelieve in their Lord is their deeds are like ashes which the wind blows forcefully on a stormy day, they are unable from what they earned a thing, that is what is far error", that is, Allah cites an example for the deeds of those who disbelieve in Him and worshipped other than Him, and says that their deeds will not be accepted on the day of resurrection, and their deeds will be like ashes which the wind blows forcefully on a stormy day and takes it away, so they will not find anything from their deeds that will benefit them before Allah and save them from His punishment; Because they were not doing them sincerely for Allah, but rather they were associating idols and false gods along with Him, thereupon, Allah will proceed to whatever they did of a deed, and He will make it a scattered dust as mentioned in Aya (23) of Surat Alfurqan, and that is far error for they nullified and lost the reward of the righteous deeds they did in the worldly life by disbelief while they are most in need of it, and it will be said to them on the day of resurrection "You exhausted your good things in your worldly life, and you have enjoyed them, so today, you will be recompensed with the punishment of humiliation because you were arrogant in the earth without right and because you were disobedient" as mentioned in Aya (20) of Surat Alahqaf.

Allah says in the next two verses (19,20) "Do You not see that Allah created the heavens and the earth in truth?, If He wills, He can do away with you, and bring a new creation, and that is not difficult for Allah", that is, Allah assures that He did not create the heavens and the earth in vain, rather He created them in truth, and if Allah wills, He can do away with the polytheists and bring a new creation, and they will not be the likes of them as mentioned in Aya (38) of Surat Muhammad, rather they will be more obedient to Him, and that is not difficult for Allah; Because the creation of the heavens and the earth is greater than the creation of mankind, but most of people do not know as Allah has stated in Aya (57) of Surat Ghafir.

Allah says in the next verse (21) "And they will come forth before Allah all together, then the weak said to those who were arrogant, we were followers for you, so Would you relieve us anything against the punishment of Allah?, they will say if Allah had guided us, we would have guided you, it is all the same for us whether we are fearful or are patient, there is for us no refuge", that is, all mankind will come forth before Allah on the day of resurrection, nothing of them is hidden from Allah, as mentioned in Aya (16) of Surat Ghafir, then the companions of Hellfire will quarrel with each other in Hellfire where the followers who were the weak in the worldly life will say to their leaders who were arrogant, that they obeyed them in what they called to of disbelief and misguidance, so Would they relieve them anything of the punishment of Allah?, but the leaders will say to them that if Allah had guided us to the path of faith and guidance, we would have guided you, but the word of punishment has come true upon us, and it is all the same for us whether we cry and ask for help or endure the punishment patiently, there is no refuge nor escape from Hellfire.

Allah says in the next verse (22) "And Satan will say when the matter has been decided, indeed, Allah had promised you the promise of truth, and I had promised you, but I did not fulfill it, but I had no authority over you except that I invited you, and you responded to me, so Do not blame me, but blame yourselves, I would not be your helper, nor would you be my helper, indeed, I deny your association of me before, indeed, for the wrongdoers is a painful punishment", that is, when the matter will be decided on the day of resurrection, and the companions of Paradise will settle in Paradise, and the companions of Hellfire will settle in Hellfire, Satan will say to His followers Allah had promised you the promise of truth through His Messengers and His book regarding the resurrection, Hellfire, Paradise, the punishment of the disobedient, and the reward of the obedient, so He has fulfilled His promise to you, while I had promised you a false promise, and I did not fulfill it because it was nothing but falsehood and deception, and I had no authority over you as I did not show you any argument for what I promised you, except that I called you, tempted you, and adorned the worldly life for you, and you responded to me and followed me, so do not blame me, but blame yourselves, I would not be your helper as I will not benefit you nor will I rescue you from the punishment you are in, likewise, you would not be my helper as you will not benefit me nor will you rescue me from the punishment I am in. Then Satan will disavow them and says I deny your association of me in the worldly life, and indeed, for the wrongdoers who wronged themselves with disbelief and tyranny is a painful punishment in Hellfire.

Allah says in the next verse (23) "And those who believed and done righteous deeds will be admitted to gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein forever by the permission of their Lord, their greeting therein will be peace'', that is, contrary to the condition of the wrongdoers in the Hereafter, the righteous who believed in Allah, His Messengers, and His books, and done righteous deeds, will be admitted to garden beneath which rivers flow in Paradise, abiding therein forever by the permission of Allah for none can enter Paradise through his good deeds only, where as narrated by Abu Hurayrah: "I heard Allah's Messenger (PBUH) saying the good deeds of any person will not make him enter Paradise, they said not even You, O Allah's Messenger?, He said not even Myself, unless Allah bestows His favor and mercy upon Me, so be moderate in your religious deeds, and do the deeds that are within your ability, and none of you should wish for death, for if he is a good doer, he may increase his good deeds, and if he is an evil doer, he may repent to Allah" (Sahih Albukhari 5673), then Allah assures that the greeting of the companions of Paradise will be peace, where as mentioned in Ayat (23,24) of Surat Alra'd, the Angels will enter upon them from every gate and will say to them ''Peace be upon you for what you patiently endured, and excellent is the final home".

Allah says in the next three verses (24-26) "Do You not see how Allah cites an example, a good word like a good tree whose root is firmly fixed and its branches in the sky?, it produces its fruit every time by the permission of its Lord, and Allah cites the examples for the people so that they may remember, and the example of a bad word is like a bad tree uprooted from the surface of the earth, not having any stability", that is, Allah has cited an example for the people and says that the good word and good deeds of the believer are like a good tree whose root is firmly fixed and its branches in the sky, and it produce its fruit every known time, and Allah's Messenger (PBUH) resembled the palm-tree to the Muslim in its abundance of goodness, the long duration of its shade, and the goodness of its fruit, where as narrated by Abdullah bin Umar: "While we were with Allah's Messenger, He said Tell Me about a tree which resembles a Muslim man, its leaves do not fall, and it does not, and does not, and does not, and it gives its fruits every now and then, it came to my mind that such a tree must be the date-palm, but seeing Abu Bakr and Umar saying nothing, I dislike to speak. So when they did not say anything, Allah's Messenger said it is the date-palm tree, when we got up, I said to Umar O my father! By Allah, it came to my mind that it must be the date-palm tree, Umar said What prevented you from speaking, I replied, I did not see you speaking, so I disliked to speak or say anything, Umar then said if you had said it, it would have been dearer to me than such-and-such" (Sahih Albukhari 4698).

So all the matter of the believer is good; Because of his acts of obedience such as his good morals, his regularity in his worship, his charity, and all other acts of obedience, the goodness never ceases from him like the leaves of the palm-tree that do not fall, thereupon, He continues to be rewarded for good deeds all the times, morning and evening, and Allah cites the examples for the people so that they may remember and be reminded by it.  And Allah cites the example of the bad word and says that it is like a bad tree uprooted from the surface of the earth, and it has no basis or stability, likewise, the bad word and evil deeds of the disbeliever are like a bad tree that has no root in the earth on which it can stand, so his evil deeds have no stability on the earth, and it will not ascend to the sky, thereupon, it will not be accepted because it was for other than Allah. And as narrated by Anas bin Malik: "The Messenger of Allah was brought a dish with unripe dates on it, He said the example of a good word like a good tree whose root is firmly fixed and its branches in the sky?, it produces its fruit every time by the permission of its Lord, and He said it is the date-palm tree,  and the example of a bad word is like a bad tree uprooted from the surface of the earth, not having any stability, He said it is the colocynth tree" (Jame' Altirmidhi 3119).

Allah says in the next verse (27) "Allah keeps firm those who believe with the firm word in the worldly life and in the Hereafter, and Allah lets the wrongdoers go astray, and Allah does what He wills'', that is, Allah strengthens the believers in the worldly life by faith in Him and His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) and by good deeds, and He strengthens them in the same way in the Hereafter when they are asked in the graves about their Lord, their religion and their Messenger, and Allah does what He wills, where Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said in narration of Albar' bin Azib: "When a Muslim is questioned in his grave, he will testify that there is not God but Allah, and that Muhammad is Allah's Messenger and that is Allah's saying "Allah keeps firm those who believe with the firm word in the worldly life and in the Hereafter" (Sahih Albukhari 4699). Albara' bin Azib also said: "We went out with the Messenger of Allah accompanying the bier of a man of the Ansar, when we reached his grave, it was not yet dug, so the Messenger of Allah sat down and we also sat down around Him as if birds were over our heads. He had in His hand a stick with which He was scratching the ground, then He raised His head and said Seek refuge with Allah from the punishment in the grave, He said it twice or thrice. And He adds in narration of Jarir that the dead hears the beat of the sandals of the people when they go back, and at that moment he is asked O so-and-so! Who is your Lord, What is your religion, and who is your Prophet?, and Hannad said in his narration that two Angels will come to him, make him sit up, and ask him Who is your Lord?, he will reply my Lord is Allah, they will ask him What is your religion?, he will reply my religion is Islam, they will ask him Who is this man who was sent to you?, he will reply He is the Messenger of Allah, they will ask What made you aware of this?, he will reply I read Allah's book, believed in it, and considered it true, and in narration of Jarir that is Allah's saying "Allah keeps firm those who believe with the firm word in the worldly life and in the Hereafter". Then a crier will call from the heaven My servant has spoken the truth, so spread a bed for him from Paradise, Open a door for him into Paradise, and Clothe him from Paradise, so some of its air and perfume will come to him, and a space will be made for him as far as the eye can see.

Allah's Messenger also mentioned the death of the infidel saying his spirit will be restored his body, two Angels will come to him, make him sit up and ask him Who is your Lord? he will reply Alas, alas! I do not know, they will ask him What is your religion? he will reply Alas, alas! I do not know, they will ask Who is this man who was sent to you?, he will reply Alas alas! I do not know, then a crier will call from the heaven he has lied, so spread a bed for him from Hell, open a door for him into Hell, and Clothe him from Hell, then some of its heat and pestilential wind will come to him, and his grave will be compressed, so that his ribs will be crushed together, and in narration of Jarir one who is blind and dumb will then be placed in charge of him, having a sledge-hammer such that if a mountain were struck with it, it would become dust. He will give him a blow with it which will be heard by everything between the east and the west except by men and Jinn, and he will become dust, then his spirit will be restored to him" (Abu Dawood 4753).

Allah says in the next three verses (28-30) "Do you not see those who exchanged the favor of Allah for disbelief, and settled their people the home of ruin?, Hellfire, they will burn therein, and wretched is the abode, and they have made equals to Allah so that they lead astray from His way, Say Enjoy, for indeed, your fate is to the fire'', that is, Allah says Do you not see the infidels of Quraish whom Allah has bestowed His favor upon them by sending a Messenger from among themselves, calling them to guidance and to a straight path, but they refused Allah's favor and exchanged it for disbelief, thereupon, they will perish and will lead their people to perish in the home of ruin, which is Hellfire on the day of resurrection, as they will burn therein, so how wretched is the fate and the place of residence, and Hellfire will be their final return for they make equals and partners besides Allah, so that they lead others astray from Allah's way, thereupon, Allah threatened them and commanded His Messenger to say to them Enjoy in the worldly life for indeed your fate is the Hellfire on the day of resurrection, abiding therein forever.

Allah says in the next verse (31) "Say to My servants who have believed to establish the prayer and spend from what We have provided them secretly and openly, before a day comes in which there will be no exchange nor any friendships", that is, Allah commanded His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) to call those who believed in Allah and acknowledged His Oneness to establish the prayer in its prescribed time, and to spend in the way of Allah from what Allah has provided them, whether obligatory charity (Zakah) or alms, secretly and publicly, before the day of resurrection comes in which there will be no ransom for the disbelievers from Allah's punishment as the ransom will not be accepted from those who disbelieved, even if they have an earth full of gold as Allah has stated in Aya (91) of Surat Aliemran, and there will be no any friendships for them in order to intercede for them before Allah as the disbelievers will say on the day of resurrection "So we have not any intercessors nor any close friend" as mentioned in Ayat (100,101) of Surat Alshu'araa.

Allah says in the next three verses (32-34) "Allah, the One who has created the heavens and the earth and sent down water from the sky, and brought forth thereby from the fruits as a provision for you and subjected for you the ships to sail through the sea by His command, and subjected for you the rivers, and He subjected for you the sun and the moon, continuous and subjected for you the night and the day, and He gave you from all you asked of Him, and if you should count the favors of Allah, you could not enumerate them, indeed, man is unjust, a severe disbeliever", that is, Allah reminds mankind of the favors He has bestowed upon them, and the greatness of His creation as He is the One who has created the heavens and the earth in truth and subjected for them whatever is in both of them, so He has sent down rain from the sky, and brought forth thereby from all the fruits in different types, tastes, colours, smells and shapes, as a provision for them, He has subjected the ships to run through the sea by His command when the winds blow, so man seeks of Allah's bounty whether they are ships for trade or for fishing, He has subjected the rivers that flow from one place to another, so that they could drink fresh water from it and irrigate their crops and livestock, He has subjected the sun and the moon for sunrise and sunset, each running constantly, so that they may know the number of days, months and years, and He subjected the night and the day in succession so that they may rest in the night, and spread out for their livelihood during the day. And Allah gave mankind from all they asked for; For He has subjected whatever is in the heavens and the earth for them, and subjected everything they need so that they may seek of His bounty. Allah has only cited some of His favor upon mankind, but if they should count the favors of Allah, they could not enumerate them, and they will not thank him for these blessings as He deserves, but man is unjust for himself with disbelief and he is a severe disbeliever whose heart is filled with disbelief and denial of Allah's signs and proofs, so he denied the truth when it came to him, disbelieved in Allah, was ungrateful to Allah and denied that He is the One who bestows His blessings upon him.

Allah says in the next two verses (35,36) "And when Abraham said My Lord Make this city secure and Keep Me and My sons away from worshipping idols, My Lord indeed, they have led astray many among the people, so whoever follows Me, then he is of Me, and whoever disobeys Me, indeed, You are All-Forgiving, Most Merciful", that is, the Prophet Abraham, peace be upon Him, asked Allah for making Mecca a secure land, and Allah answered His supplication as He says in Aya (67) of Surat Alankaboot "Do they not see that We made a secure sanctuary, while the people around them are being snatched away?", and the Prophet Abraham disavowed anyone who worshipped other than Allah, He even disavowed His father when it became clear to Him that His father was an enemy of Allah as mentioned in Aya (114) of Surat Altawbah, so He asked Allah for keeping Him and His sons away from worshipping idols, then the Prophet Abraham said to Allah that these idols had led many people astray from the truth, then He said that whoever of the people followed Him and abandoned polytheism and the worship of idols, then he is one of His followers and among the believers, but as for whoever disobeyed and remained on worshipping idols, so his matter is up to Allah, if He wills He guides him, and if he wills, he lets him go astray, and Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful for those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds. And as narrated by Abdullah bin Amro bin Alas: "The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) recited Allah's saying about Abraham "My Lord indeed, they have led astray many among the people, so whoever follows Me, then he is of Me", and Jesus said "If You should punish them, then indeed, they are Your servants, but if You forgive them, then indeed, it is You who is the Almighty, All-Wise"(Surat Alma'idah Aya 118), then He raised His hands and said O Lord! My Ummah, My Ummah and wept, so Allah, Almighty, said O Gabriel Go to Muhammad, and Your Lord knows best, and ask Him What makes You weep?, So Gabriel came to Him and asked Him, and the Messenger of Allah informed Him what He had said, and Allah knows best, thereupon, Allah said O Gabriel Go to Muhammad and say indeed, We will please you with regard to Your Ummah and would not displease You" (Sahih Muslim 202).

Allah says in the next two verses (37,38) "Our Lord, I have settled some of My progeny in an uncultivated valley near Your Sacred House, Our Lord that they may establish the prayer, so Make hearts among the people incline towards them, and Provide them from the fruits, so that they may give thanks, Our Lord indeed, You know what we conceal and what we declare, and nothing is hidden from Allah on the earth or in the heaven", that is, the Prophet Abraham settled His wife Hajar and His son Ishmael in Mecca in a valley with no vegetation nor water close to the Sacred House (Almasjid Alharam), so that they may establish the prayer therein, then the Prophet Abraham commanded Allah to make hearts among the people incline towards them, and to provide them from the fruits so that they may offer gratitude to Allah, and the Prophet Abraham said to Allah that He knows what they conceal and what declare, and nothing is hidden from Allah on the earth nor in the heaven. Thereupon, Allah answered His supplication as He says in Aya (57) of Surat Alqasas "Do they not see that We established for them a secure sanctuary to which fruits of everything are brought, a provision from Us?", and He makes Muslims from all over the world go to the Sacred House for Hajj at the time of Hajj and for Umrah throughout the year, and their hearts remain longing for this journey even if they were just returning from it.

Allah's Messenger said in narration of Ibn Abbas: "The first lady to use a girdle was the mother of Ishmael, she used a girdle so that she might hide her tracks from Sarah. Abraham brought her and her son Ishmael while she was suckling him, to a place near the Ka'bah (The Sacred House) under a tree on the spot of Zamzam at the highest place in the mosque, during those days there was nobody in Mecca, nor was there any water. So He made them sit over there and placed near them a leather bag containing some dates, and a small water-skin containing some water, and He set out homeward. Ishmael's mother followed Him saying O Abraham! Where are you going, leaving us in this valley where there is no person whose company we may enjoy, nor is there anything?, she repeated that to Him many times, but He did not look back at her, then she asked him Has Allah ordered You to do so?, He said yes, she said then He will not neglect us, and returned while Abraham proceeded onward, and on reaching the Thaniya where they could not see Him, He faced the Ka'bah, raising both hands and invoked Allah saying these words Our Lord, I have settled some of My progeny in an uncultivated valley near Your Sacred House, Our Lord that they may establish the prayer, so Make hearts among the people incline towards them, and Provide them from the fruits, so that they may give thanks.

Ishmael's mother went on suckling Ishmael and drinking from the water, when the water in the water-skin had all been used up, she became thirsty and her child also became thirsty, she started looking at him tossing in agony, she left him for she could not endure looking at him, and found that the mountain of the Safa was the nearest mountain to her on that land. She stood on it, and started looking at the valley keenly, so that she might see somebody, but she could not see anybody. Then she descended from the Safa, and when she reached the valley, she tucked up her rope, and ran in the valley like a person in distress and trouble, till she crossed the valley and reached the Marwa mountain where she stood and started looking, expecting to see somebody, but she could not see anybody, she repeated that (Running between the Safa and the Marwa) seven times, the Prophet said this is the source of the tradition of walking between them. When she reached the Marwa (for the last time) she heard a voice and she asked herself to be quiet and listened attentively, she heard the voice again and said O you have made me hear your voice Have you got something to help me? and behold! She saw an Angel at the place of Zamzam, digging the earth with his heel (or his wing), till water flowed from that place, she started to make something like a basin around it, using her hand in this way, and started filling her water-skin with water with her hands, and the water was flowing out after she had scooped some of it, the Prophet added May Allah bestow mercy on Ishmael's mother! Had she let Zamzam flow or Had she not scooped from the water, Zamzam would have been a stream flowing on the surface of the earth, the Prophet further added then she drank and suckled her child.

The Angel said to her Do not be afraid of being neglected, for this is the House of Allah which will be built by this boy and His father, and Allah never neglects His people, the House (Alka'bah) at that time was on a high place resembling a hillock, and when torrents came, they flowed to its right and left. She lived in that way till some people from the tribe of Jurham or a family from Jurham passed by her and her child, as they were coming through the way of Kada', they landed in the lower part of Mecca where they saw a bird that had the habit of flying around water and not leaving it. They said this bird must be flying around water, though we know that there is no water in this valley, they sent one or two of messengers who discovered the source of water, and returned to inform them of the water, so they all came, the Prophet added Ishmael's mother was sitting near the water, they asked her Do you allow us to stay with you?, she replied yes, but you will have no right to possess the water, they agreed to that, the Prophet further said Ishmael's mother was pleased with the whole situation as she used to love to enjoy the company of the people, so they settled there, and later on they sent for their families who came and settled with them, so that some families became permanent residents there.

The child (Ishmael) grew up and learnt Arabic from them and his virtues caused them to love and admire him as he grew up, and when he reached the age of puberty they made him marry a woman from amongst them. After Ishmael's mother had died, Abraham came after Ishmael's marriage in order to see his family that he had left before, but he did not find Ishmael there. When he asked Ishmael's wife about him, she replied He has gone in search of our livelihood. Then He asked her about their way of living and their condition, and she replied we are living in misery, we are living in hardship and destitution, complaining to Him, He said when your husband returns, convey my salutation to him and tell him to change the threshold of the gate (of his house), When Ishmael came, he seemed to have felt something unusual, so he asked his wife Has anyone visited you?, she replied yes, an old man of such-and-such description came and asked me about you and I informed him, and he asked about our state of living, and I told Him that we were living in a hardship and poverty. On that Ishmael said Did He advice you anything?, she replied yes, he told me to convey his salutation to you and to tell you to change the threshold of your gate, Ishmael said it was my father, and He ordered me to divorce you, Go back to your family, so Ishmael divorced her and married another woman from amongst them (Jurham).

Then Abraham stayed away from them for a period as long as Allah wished and called on them again, but did not find Ishmael, so He came to Ishmael's wife and asked her about Ishmael, she said he has gone in search of our livelihood, Abraham asked her How are you getting on?, asking her about their sustenance and living, she replied, we are prosperous and well-off, then she thanked Allah, Abraham said What kind of food do you eat?, she said meat, He said What do you drink?, she said water, He said O Allah! Bless their meat and water. The Prophet added at that time they did not have grain and if they had grain, He would have also invoked Allah to bless it. the Prophet added if somebody has only these two things as his sustenance, his health and disposition will be badly affected unless he lives in Mecca, the Prophet added then Abraham said to Ishmael's wife when your husband comes, give my greetings to him, and tell him that he should keep firm the threshold of his gate. When Ishmael came back, he asked his wife Did any one come to you?, she replied yes a good-looking old man came to me, so she praised Him and added He asked about you, and I informed Him, and He asked about our livelihood and I told Him that we are in a good condition, Ishmael asked her Did He give you any advice?, she said yes, He told me to give His regards to you, and ordered that you should keep firm the threshold of you gate, on that Ishmael said it was my father and you are the threshold, He has ordered me to keep you with me.

Then Abraham stayed away from them for a period as long as Allah wished, and visited them afterwards, He saw Ishmael under a tree near Zamzam, sharpening his arrows, when he saw Abraham, he rose up to welcome him, and they greeted each other as a father does with his son or a son does with his father, Abraham said O Ishmael! Allah has given me an order, Ishmael said Do what Your Lord has ordered You to do?, Abraham asked Will you help Me?, Ishmael said I will help You, Abraham said, Allah has ordered to to build a house here, pointing to a hillock higher than the land surrounding it, the Prophet added, then they raised the foundation of the House (Alka'bah), Ishmael brought the stones and Abraham was building, and when the walls became high, Ishmael brought this stone and put it for Abraham who stood over it, and carried on building, while Ishmael was handing him the stones, and both of them were saying ''Our Lord Accept from Us, indeed, You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knower" (Surat Albaqarah Aya 127), the Prophet added, then both of them went on building and going round the Ka'bah saying Our Lord Accept from Us, indeed, You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knower" (Sahih Albukhari 3364).

Allah says in the next three verses (39-41) "Praise be to Allah, the One who has granted Me in the old age Ishmael and Issac, indeed, My Lord is All-Hearing of supplication, My Lord Make Me an establisher of the prayer and from My progeny, Our Lord and Accept My supplication, Our Lord Forgive Me and My parents and the believers the day when the reckoning is established", that is, the Prophet Abraham praised Allah , the One who has granted Him in the old age Ishmael from His wife Hajar as shown above, and Isaac from His wife Sarah when the Angels gave her the glad tidings of Isaac although she was an old woman, and the Prophet Abraham was an old man as mentioned in Ayat (71,72) of Surat Hud, and then the Prophet Abraham said that Allah is All-Hearing of the supplication; for Allah has responded to His supplication when He said "My Lord Grant Me of the righteous" as mentioned in Aya (100) of Surat Alsaffat, then the Prophet Abraham asked Allah for making Him an establisher of the prayer and to make His progeny likewise to establish the prayer, He asked Allah for accepting His supplication in all that He had asked for, and He asked Allah for forgiveness for His parents and for the believers on the day of resurrection when the reckoning is established, and that supplication was before it became clear to the Prophet Abraham that His father Azar is an enemy of Allah as mentioned in Aya (114) of Surat Altawbah, so He disavowed His father and what he worshipped besides Allah.

Allah says in the next two verses (42,43) "And Do not think that Allah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do, He only delays them for a day in which the eyes will stare, racing ahead, raising their heads, their gaze does not come back to them, and their hearts are empty", that is, Allah addresses His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) and says Do not think that Allah is unaware of the evil deeds of the wrongdoers who wronged themselves with disbelief and tyranny, He just enumerates their deeds, and delays them for the day of resurrection in which the eyes of the disbelievers will remain upraised from the severity of what they see of its horrors, and they will race ahead towards the position of reckoning in response to the caller of resurrection as mentioned in Aya (8) of Surat Alqamar, they will raise their heads and their gaze will not come back to them for they will keep looking without blinking for a moment due to a great amount of fear and terror of what will happen to them, and their hearts will be empty with nothing therein due to the abundance of dread and humiliation they are in.

Allah says in the next two verses (44,45) "And Warn the people of a day when the punishment will come to them, and those who wronged will say our Lord Delay us for a near term, we will answer Your call and follow the Messengers, Had you not sworn before that for you there would be no transition?, and you dwelt in the dwellings of those who wronged themselves, and it had become clear to you how We dealt with them, and We cited for you the examples'', that is, Allah commanded the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to warn the people of the day of resurrection when the punishment will come to them, and those who wronged themselves with disbelief will say our Lord Delay us for a short period, and we will worship You alone with no partners, and follow Your Messengers, as they will ask Allah for returning to the worldly life at the time of death, so that they do righteous deeds as mentioned in Ayat (99,100) of Surat Almu'minun, and they will cry in Hellfire and say "Bring us out we will do righteous deed other than that we used to do" as mentioned in Aya (37) of Surat Fatir, so Allah will respond to their request on the day of resurrection and say Had you not sworn in the worldly life that for you there would be no transition from the graves to the Hereafter as they swore by Allah the strongest of their oaths that Allah will not resurrect he who dies as mentioned in Aya (38) of Surat Alnahl, and Allah will say to them you lived in the dwellings of the disbelievers like the people of Thamud and it had become clear to you how We dealt with them and how was their end, so would you be admonished by them, and We cited for you in the Holy Quran the parables of the previous nations who disbelieved and denied their Messengers and how was their end in the worldly life and the punishment that awaits them in the Hereafter, but you persist on disbelief, and now you are asking for a delay in order to repent and believe when the punishment has already befallen upon you.

Allah says in the next two verses (46,47) "And they plotted their plot, but with Allah is their plot though their plot had been to do away with the mountains, so Do not think that Allah will break His promise to His Messengers, indeed, Allah is Almighty, the Possessor of vengeance", that is, Allah tells about the disbelievers who worshipped other than Him, and made equals for Him, and says that they plotted their plot in order to prevent the people from the way of Islam, but their plot is with Allah for He knows what they conceal and what they declare, and they have come up with a great reprehensible thing and slander against Allah to the point that the mountains would become a scattered dust. Then Allah addresses His Messenger and says Do not think that Allah will break His promise to His Messengers that He will surely destroy the wrongdoers, and that He will surely make them to dwell in the land of the disbelievers as mentioned above in Ayat (13,14), so Allah will fulfill His promise as He is the Almighty who is Severe in His revenge on those who disobeyed Him where He is the Possessor of vengeance.

Allah says in the next three verses (48-50) "The day the earth will be replaced by another earth and the heavens, and they will come forth before Allah, the One, the Oft-Omnipotent, and you will see the criminals that day bound together in shackles, their garment of pitch and their faces covered by the fire", that is, Allah will take revenge on the disbelievers on the day of resurrection when the earth will be replaced by another earth, and the heavens will be replaced by another heavens as Allah will blow the mountains up totally, and He will leave it a flat land, so you will not see on the earth a crookedness, a slope, nor an elevation as mentioned in Ayat (105-107) of Surat Ta Ha, and Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said in narration of Sahl bin Sa'd: "The people will be gathered on the day of resurrection on reddish white land like a pure loaf of bread, Sahl added that land will have no landmarks for anybody" (Sahih Albukhari 6521), so all mankind will come forth before Allah on the day of resurrection, nothing of them is hidden from Allah, the One, the Oft-omnipotent who has no equals and He who conquered everything by His power, and you will see the criminals who disbelieved in Allah, His Messengers, and His books bound together in shackles on the day of resurrections just as they gathered in the worldly life on disbelief, stubbornness, and tyranny, and their garments will be of pitch, and their faces will be covered by the fire, and Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said in narration of Abu Malik Alash'ari: "Among My Ummah (Muslims) there are four characteristics belonging to Aljahiliyah (Pre-Islamic period) which they do not abandon, boasting of the lineage, reviling others genealogies, seeking rain by the stars, and wailing, and He said if the wailing woman does not repent before she dies, she will be resurrected on the day of resurrection wearing a garment of pitch, and a shield of mange" (Sahih Muslim 934).

Allah says in the last two verses (51,52) "So that Allah will recompense every soul for what it earned, indeed, Allah is Swift in reckoning, this is a notification for the people that they may be warned thereby, and that they may know that He is but One God, and so that those of understanding may remember", that is, the criminals deserve a severe punishment for what they used to earn of evil deeds in the worldly life, and Allah will establish the reckoning on the day of resurrection so that He may recompense every soul for what it earned whether evil deeds or good deeds, and as narrated by Abu Zarr Algifari that Allah's Messenger said: ''Allah says O my servants, it is your deeds, I count for you, and I will repay you, so whoever finds good things, let him thank Allah, and whoever finds otherwise does not blame none but himself" (Sahih Muslim 2577), and Allah is swift in reckoning His servants; because His knowledge encompasses all their affairs. Then Allah assures that the Holy Quran is a notification and a reminder for the people, so that they may be warned by Allah's punishment that He has afflicted upon the previous nations and what awaits them on the day of resurrection of painful torment in Hellfire, so that they may know through its proofs and arguments that there is no God but Allah, and so that those of understanding may remember, turn away from the path of misguidance, and follow what is in it of guidance and act according it.
