Forbidden to you are the dead, and the blood and the flesh of pig, and that which has been
dedicated to other than Allah, and that which is dead by strangulation, and that which is dead by a hit, and that which is dead by a fall, and that which is dead by goring, and that which the wild animal has eaten except what you have slaughtered, and that which is sacrificed on the stones altars, and that you seek decision through the arrows, that is disobedience,
this day those who disbelieved have despaired of your religion,
so Do not fear them, but Fear Me, this day I have perfected for you
your religion and I have completed My favor upon you and I have approved for
you Islam as religion, but whoever is forced by hunger, not inclining to sin, then indeed, Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

for you and your food is lawful for them, and the chaste women from among the
believers and the chaste women from among those who were given the Book

chaste, not being lewd, or taking lovers, and whoever denies
the faith, then indeed, his deeds were nullified, and he will be among the losers in the Hereafter.

When you rise for prayer, then Wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, and Wipe your heads and Wash your feet up to the ankles, and if you are in a state of Janabah, then Purify yourselves, but if you are ill or on a journey or anyone of you has come from the toilet or you have contacted women and you do not find water, so Perform Tayyammum with clean dust, and Wipe your faces and your hands with it, Allah does not intend to place on you any hardship, but He intends to purify you and to complete His favor upon you so that you may give thanks.

prayer and give the Zakah, and believe in My Messengers and venerate them, and loan Allah a goodly loan, I will surely expiate from you your evil deeds and I will surely admit you into
gardens beneath which rivers flow, but whoever of you disbelieves after that, then certainly he has gone astray from the straight way.

So because of their breaking of their covenant, We have cursed them and made their hearts hard, they distort the words from their places and have forgotten a

O people of the Book! Indeed, Our Messenger has come to you to make clear to you after a period of the

And Recite to them the news of the two sons of Adam, in truth, when they both offered a

Because of that, We decreed upon
the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul for other than a soul or corruption on the earth, it is as if he had killed mankind entirely, and whoever
saves it, it is as if he had saved mankind entirely, and our messengers had
certainly come to them with clear proofs, then indeed, many of them after that were transgressors throughout the earth.

Indeed, the recompense of those who war Allah and His Messenger and strive to spread corruption on the earth is nothing but that they be killed or they be crucified or that their hands and
their feet be cut off of opposite sides, or that they be exiled from the
land, that is for them a disgrace in this world, and for them in the Hereafter
is a great punishment.

O Messenger! Let not grieve
You those who hasten into disbelief of those who say we believe with their mouths,
but their hearts do not believe, and from among those who are Jews, they are listeners to the lie, and listeners
to another people who have not come to You, they distort the words beyond their places saying if you
are given this, so Take it, but if you are not given it, then Beware,
but he for whom Allah intends trial, then You will not possess anything for him against Allah, those are the ones whom Allah does not intend to purify their
hearts, for them in the world is disgrace and for them in the Hereafter is a

Indeed, We sent down the Torah in
which there was guidance and light, the Prophets who had submitted judged
by it for those who are Jews, and the Rabbis, and the scholars by that which they
were entrusted of the Book of Allah, and they
were witnesses to it, so Do not fear the
people, but Fear Me, and Do not exchange My verses for a small price, and whoever does not judge by what Allah has sent down, then
they are the disbelievers.

And We have sent on their footsteps Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming what was before Him in the Torah, and We gave Him the

what has come to You of the truth, for each of You We made a law and a method, and if Allah had willed, He would have made you one nation, but to
test you in what He has given you, so Race to the good, to Allah is your return

have known it, You know what is in Myself, and I do not know what is
in Yourself, indeed, it is You who is All-Knower of the unseen.

Simplified interpretation:
Surat Alma'idah is one of the seven long Surahs of the Holy Quran, and it contains many rulings that Allah did not reveal in any other Surah including the prohibition of hunting in the state of Ihram for Hajj or Umrah, the prohibition of the animals that die by strangulation, hitting, falling, goring, and that which the wild animal has eaten except what has been slaughtered, and that which is sacrificed on the stones altars, the prohibition of seeking decision through the arrows, the permissibility of hunting through trained animals on the condition that the Name of Allah is mentioned on them, the permissibility of the food of those who were given the Book from among the Jews and Christians, the permissibility of the chaste women from among the Jews and Christians, the Tayyammum when water is lost, and cutting off the hand of the male or female thief. And in this Surah, Allah has declared on Friday, the day of Arafa of Hajjat Alwada' (The farewell pilgrimage) that He has perfected for Muslims their religion, He has completed His favor upon them and He has approved for them Islam as religion.
Allah Almighty says in the first verse (1) "O you who have believed! Fulfill the contracts, the beast of cattle have been made lawful for you except for that which is recited to you, not permitting the hunt while you are in the state of Ihram, indeed, Allah decides what He intends", that is, Allah commanded the believers to do what he obligated them to do of His obligations and covenants, so Allah commands them to fulfill their covenant with Him, and their contracts with the people as much as they agree with Allah's religion and Book, so Obey Allah in what He has made lawful for you, what He has forbidden, and what He has imposed, and Fulfill your contracts with the people which you have imposed upon yourselves, so Do not betray and Do not break your covenants and contracts. Then Allah has made clear to the believers what He has made lawful for them and what He has forbidden, so the cattle such as camels, cows, and sheep have been made lawful for them except for that which is recited to them as will come later in Aya (3), and Allah has forbidden hunting during the time of Ihram for Hajj or Umrah, so what is hunted is permissible at any time other than Ihram, and what is not hunted is permissible at the time of Ihram and any other time, indeed, Allah decides what He intends, so He decrees whatever He wills, permits whatever He wants to permit, and forbids whatever He wants to forbid.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (2) "O you who have believed! Do not violate the rites of Allah nor of the Sacred month nor of the sacrificial animals nor of garlands nor of those proceeding to the Sacred House seeking bounty from their Lord and pleasure, but when you come out of Ihram, then Hunt, and Let not the hatred of a people incite you for they prevented you from the Sacred Mosque that you transgress, and Cooperate in righteousness and piety, and Do not cooperate in sin and aggression, and Fear Allah, indeed, Allah is Sever in punishment", that is, Allah commanded the believers not to transgress His rituals and limits in any matter, so Do not violate His prohibitions, limits, commands, and obligations. Allah commanded them not to violate His rituals in the Sacred months, so Abandon what Allah has forbidden during the Sacred months such as fighting your enemies from among the polytheists for it is a great sin as mentioned in Aya (217) of Surat Albaqarah, and committing forbidden things for Allah says in Aya (36) of Surat Altawbah "Do not wrong yourselves during them", and the Sacred months are Rajab, and three successive months, which are Dhul-Qa'dah, Dhul-Hijjah, and Almuharram, where as narrated by Abu Bakrah Nafi' bin Alharith: "The Prophet (PBUH) said time has taken its original shape which it had when Allah created the heavens and the earth, four of which are sacred, out of these three are in succession Dhul-Qa'da, Dhul-Hijjah, and Almuharram, and the fourth is Rajab Mudar which is between Jumada Althani and Sha'ban (Sahih Albukhari 4406). So the sacred months are source of security for the people, so it is forbidden to terrorize anyone, seek retaliation, or expect any revenge to the point that a man would meet the killer of his father, his son, or his brother and would not harm him during these sacred months.
Allah commanded the believers not to violate His rituals regarding the sacrificial animals such as camels, cows, or sheep which a person gives to the Sacred Mosque (Ka'bah) in order to draw closer to Allah and seek His reward, so Do not abandon giving gifts to the Sacred House as it is an act of honor of Allah's rituals, and Allah commanded the believers not to violate His rituals regarding the garlands of the sacrificial animals such as collars that are placed around the necks of sacrificial animals in order to distinguish them from other animals, so it will be known that they are gifts to the Ka'bah, so whoever intends harm to them will refrain from doing so, and they urge whoever sees them to bring something similar to that, and as narrated by Abdullah bin Hazm: "Amra bint Abdu-alrahman had told him that Zaid bin Abu sufyan wrote to Aisha that Abdullah bin Abbas had stated whoever sends his Hadi (Sacrificial animals to the Ka'bah), all the things which are illegal for a pilgrim become illegal for that person till his Hadi will be slaughtered (10th of Dhul-Hijja), Amra added, Aisha said it is not like what Ibn Abbas had said I twisted the garlands of the Hadi of Allah's Messenger with my own hands, then Allah's Messenger put them round their necks with His own hands, sending them with my father, yet nothing permitted by Allah was considered illegal for Allah's Messenger till His Hadi was slaughtered" (Sahih Albukhari 1700), and Aisha said in another narration: "I used to make the garlands for the Prophet (PBUH) and He would garland the sheep, and would stay with His family as a Non-Muhrim" (Sahih Albukhari 1702), and as narrated by Ibn Abbas: "Allah's Messenger observed the Dhuhr prayer at Dhul Hulaifa, then He called for His she-camel and marked it on the right side of its hump, and removed the blood from it, and tied two sandals round its neck, then He mounted His camel, and when it brought Him up to Albaiyda', He pronounced Talbiya for the pilgrimage" (Sahih Muslim 1243 a).
And Allah has commanded the believers not to violate His rituals regarding those coming to the Sacred House (Ka'bah) seeking bounty from Allah such as profits in trade and pleasure from Allah through Hajj, so Do not fight them or prevent them from performing the Hajj to the Sacred House, whether they are believers or polytheists, then Allah has permitted the believers to hunt when they have finished their Ihram for Hajj or Umrah. And Allah has commanded the believers not to let the hatred of the polytheists of Quraish incite them because the polytheists of Quraish prevented them from the Sacred Mosque in Zul-Qa'da in the sixth year of Hijra, the year of Alhudaiybeyah as mentioned in Surat Alfath, that they transgress or retaliate against them unjustly and aggressively, rather to judge according to what Allah has commanded them to do. But Allah has abrogated this command later in the ninth year of Hijra saying "Indeed, the polytheists are unclean, so let them not approach the Sacred Mosque after this year of theirs" as mentioned in Aya (28) of Surat Altawbah, and His saying "Then Kill the polytheists wherever you find them" as mentioned in Aya (5) of Surat Altawbah. Then Allah commanded the believers to cooperate in righteousness and piety, so Help one another in doing good deeds, and abandoning evil deeds, and as narrated by Abu Hurayrah that Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said: "Whoever called to guidance will have the reward like the rewards of those who follow him, and that will not detract from their reward in anything, and whoever called to error will have a sin like the sins of those who follow him, and that will not detract from their sins in anything" (Sahih Muslim 2674), and as narrated by Anas bin Malik: "A man came to the Prophet (PBUH) to get a mount, but He did not have anything to mount him on with him, so he was led to another person to give him a mount, he came to the Prophet to inform Him about that and He said whoever leads to good, he is like the one who does it" (Jami' Altirmidhi 2670), and Allah commanded the believers not to cooperate in sin and transgression, so Do not support falsehood, and Do not help one another in sins, transgression, and abandoning what Allah has commanded you to do, therefore, Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said in narration of Anas bin Malik: "Help your brother whether he is an oppressor or an oppressed, a man said O Allah's Messenger! I will help him if he is oppressed, but if he is an oppressor, How shall I help him?, the Prophet said by preventing him from oppressing for that is how to help him" (Sahih Albukhari 6952). Thereupon, Allah commanded the believers to help one another in doing what Allah has commanded, and abandoning what Allah has forbidden, and to fear Allah and fear His punishment, indeed, Allah is Severe in punishment and revenge on those who disobey Him and transgress His limits and rituals.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (3) "Forbidden to you are the dead, and the blood and the flesh of pig, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah, and that which is dead by strangulation, and that which is dead by a hit, and that which is dead by a fall, and that which is dead by goring, and that which the wild animal has eaten except what you have slaughtered, and that which is sacrificed on the stones altars, and that you seek decision through the arrows, that is disobedience, this day those who disbelieved have despaired of your religion, so Do not fear them, but Fear Me, this day I have perfected for you your religion and I have completed My favor upon you and I have approved for you Islam as religion, but whoever is forced by hunger, not inclining to sin, then indeed, Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful", that is, Allah makes clear to His servants what He has forbidden to them as He has forbidden for them the dead animals that die without being slaughtered or hunted, the spilled blood, and the meat and the fat of swine, whether slaughtered or dead swine, and what is slaughtered for the false gods and idols and slaughtered in other than the Name of Allah, but Allah has permitted to the Muslims two kinds of the dead, and two kinds of the blood where Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said in narration of Abdullah bin Umar: "Two kinds of dead meat and two kinds of blood have been permitted to us, the two kinds of dead meat are fish and locusts, and the two kinds of blood are the liver and spleen" (Sunan Ibn Majah 3314).
Allah also has forbidden the animal that dies by strangulation, either intentionally or unintentionally such as it suffocates in its ties and dies by it, Allah has forbidden the animal that dies by a hit with something such as stone or stick until it dies without being slaughtered, and as narrated by Adi bin Hatim: "I asked Allah's Messenger (PBUH) about the Ma'rad, He said if you hit the game with its sharp edge, Eat it, but if the Ma'rad hits the game with its shaft with a hit by its broad side Do not eat it, for it has been beaten to death with a piece of wood" (Sahih Albukhari 5476), but whatever animal is slaughtered even if with a piece of wood or anything else, and the blood drips from it, then it is permissible, where as narrated by Abaya bin Rifaa from his grandfather Rafi' bin Khadij: "My grandfather asked the Prophet (PBUH) we hope that we may meet the enemy tomorrow and we have no knives Can we slaughter our animals with canes?, the Prophet said if the instrument used for killing causes the animal to bleed profusely and if Allah's Name is mentioned on killing it, then Eat its meat, but won't use a tooth or a nail and I am telling you the reason, a tooth is a bone, and a nail is the slaughtering instrument of Abyssinia" (Sahih Albukhari 3075). Allah has forbidden the animal that dies through a fall from a high place such as mountain or a fall into a well, Allah has forbidden the animal that dies because another animal gored it even if the horn injured it and the blood came out of it, Allah has forbidden what the wild animal has eaten such as the lion, leopard, tiger, fox, hyena, or wolf, so if the wild animal ate some of it and it died, then it is forbidden even if the blood dripped from it. Allah has made an exception of these animals that were subjected to strangulation, hit, fall, goring, or wild animal, but they still alive, so if they still breathe and move their legs, their eyes, their arms, or any other organ, then it is permissible for you to slaughter and eat it.
Allah has forbidden the animal which is sacrificed on the stones altars, and they were stones that had been set up for worship, and it was said that they were three hundred and sixty stones around the Ka'bah, and the Arabs used to slaughter on these stones in Pre-Islamic era (Aljahiliyah) and the blood of sacrifices was poured on them, so Allah forbade the Muslims from doing this and from eating these sacrifices. Allah forbade the Muslims from seeking decision through the arrows (Azlam), where the polytheists used to draw lots through the arrows if they wanted to do something or travel, and they were three arrows placed on a container, on one of which was written Command me, on the second was written Forbade me, and on the third nothing would be written, so if the arrow on which Command me was written came out, they would go on their way, and if the one on which Forbade me was written came out, they would stop, but if the one on which nothing was written came out, they would draw the lots again. And as narrated by Ibn Abbas: "When Allah's Messenger (PBUH) came to Mecca, He refused to enter the Ka'bah with idols in it, He ordered to be taken out, so they were taken out, the people took out the pictures of Abraham and Ishmael holding the arrows (Azlam) in their hands, Allah's Messenger said may Allah destroy them, By Allah! They knew that they (Abraham and Ishmael) never did the game of chance with Azlam, then He entered the Ka'bah and recited takbeer (Allahu Akbar) at its corners but did not offer the prayer in it" (Sahih Albukhari 1601).
Thereupon, seeking decision through the arrows is misguidance, ignorance, and polytheism, and Allah has commanded the believers to seek guidance from Him alone and ask Him for a choice in the matter they desire, and Allah's Messenger (PBUH) used to taught His companions Istikharah, which is asking Allah to guide man to the right sort of action concerning any matter, where as narrated by Jabir bin Abdullah: "The Prophet (PBUH) used to teach us the way of doing Istikharah in all matters as He taught us the Surah of the Quran, He said if anyone of you thinks of doing any matter, he should offer two rak'ahs other than the obligatory ones and say (after the prayer) Allahumma inni astakheruka be-elmeka, wa astaqderuka be-qudrateka, wa as'alaka men fadleka alazeem, fa-innaka taqderuo wa la aqderuo, wa ta'lamuo wa la a'lamuo, wa anta allamuo alghuyuob, allahumma in kunta ta'lamuo anna haza alamra khaiyrun lee fee deeni wa ma'ashi wa aqebati amri (or ajili amri wa ajilihi) fa-qderhu lee wa yasserhuo lee thumma barik le feehi wa in kunta ta'lamuo anna haza alamra sharrun lee fee deeni wa ma'ashi wa aqebati amri (or fee ajili amri wa ajilihi) fa-srefhuo anni wa srefni anhuo, wa-qdir lee alkhaiyra haiythuo kana thumma ardini behi: O Allah! I ask guidance from Your knowledge, and power from Your might, and ask for Your great blessings, You are Capable and I am not, You know and I do not know, and You are All-Knower of the unseen, O Allah! If You know that this matter is good for my religion and my sustenance and in my Hereafter (or said if it is better for my present and later needs), then You Ordain it for me and Make it easy for me to get, and then Bless me in it, and if You know that this matter is harmful to me in my religion and sustenance and in my Hereafter (or said if it is worse for my present and later needs), then Keep it away from me, and Let me be away from it, and Ordain for me whatever is good for me, and Make me satisfied with it, the Prophet added that then the person should name his need" (Sahih Albukhari 1166). Then Allah assures that eating the dead animal, the blood, the flesh of swine, that which has been dedicated to other than Allah, the dead animal through strangulation, hit, fall, goring, or wild animal, the animal which is sacrificed on the stones altars, seeking decision through the arrows are disobedience and departing from Allah's command to what He has forbidden.
Then Allah addresses the believers saying this day those who disbelieved have despaired of your religion as they despaired that you will abandon your religion and return to their religion as infidels, and as narrated by Jabir: "I heard Allah's Messenger (PBUH) as saying indeed, Satan has lost all hopes that the worshippers would ever worship him in the Peninsula of Arabia, but that he would sow the seed of dissension amongst them" (Sahih Muslim 2812 a). Thereupon, Allah commanded the believers to be patient and steadfast in opposing the disbelievers and not to fear anyone except Allah saying Do not fear them, but Fear Me, so I will destroy them, and grant you victory over them in the worldly life and the Hereafter. And Allah addresses the believers saying this day I have perfected for you your religion, I have completed My favor upon you and I have approved for you Islam as religion, and that is the greatest blessing upon the Muslims as Allah has perfected for them their religion, so they do not need another religion, so there is nothing permissible except what Allah has made lawful, there is nothing forbidden except what He has forbidden, and there is no religion except what He has legislated, and that day was Friday, the day of Arafa of Hajjat Alwada' (The farewell pilgrimage), where as narrated by Tariq bin Shihab: "A man among the Jews said to Umar bin Alkhattab O commander of the believers! If we were the ones unto whom this Aya was revealed "This day I have perfected for you your religion and I have completed My favor upon you and I have approved for you Islam as religion", then we would have taken that day as Eid: a day of celebration, so Umar bin Alkhattab said to him indeed, I know which day this Aya was revealed, it was revealed on the day of Arafah, on Friday" (Jami' Altirmidhi 3043). Then Allah has made an exception for whoever is forced by hunger, and he needs to eat any of these forbidden animals, not inclining to sin because he lacked other food and the necessity has forced Him to do so without his choice out of fear of death if he does not eat it, neither desiring the unlawful food nor transgressing the limits of Allah as mentioned in Aya (145) of Surat Alan'am, then indeed, Allah is All-Forgiving for eating what is forbidden, Most Merciful when He makes the forbidden permissible for Muslims at times of necessity.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (4) ''They ask You What has been made lawful for them, Say the good things have been made lawful for you, and what you have taught of hunting animals, which you train, you teach them of what Allah has taught you, so Eat of what they hold for you, and Mention the Name of Allah on it, and Fear Allah, indeed, Allah is Swift in reckoning", that is, Allah addresses His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) saying Your companions ask You what is lawful for them of food, so Say the good things of provision are made lawful for you, and what you hunt through hunting animals and birds such as dogs, leopards, falcons, and their likes, so if the hunting animals do not eat from the game that they hunted, they were sent by a Muslim and he mentioned the Name of Allah when sending them, and they hold the game for their owner and do not hold it for themselves, then the hunt is lawful for Muslims, where as narrated by Adi bin Hatim: "I asked Allah's Messenger (PBUH) if I let loose my trained dog after a game?, He said if you let loose your trained dog after game, and mention the Name of Allah, then you can eat, I said if the dog eats of the game?, He said then you should not eat of it, for the dog has hunted the game for itself, and not for you, I said some times I send my dog and then I find another dog with it?, He said Do not eat the game, as you have mentioned the Name of Allah on your dog only, and not on the other" (Sahih Albukhari 5476). So if you teach the hunting animals or birds of what Allah has taught you, so they obey when you command them, and stop when you forbid them, so Eat of what they hold for you when they did not eat from it, and Mention the Name of Allah on it, but if the Muslim hunts with an untrained animal, he must slaughter the game before it dies, and mention the name of Allah upon it, where as narrated by Abu Tha'labah Alkhushni: "I said O Allah's Prophet! We are living in a land ruled by the people of the Book, Can we take our meals in their utensils?, in that land there is plenty of game and I hunt the game with my bow, and with my dog that is not trained and with my trained dog, then What is lawful for me?, He said as for what you mentioned about the people of the Book, if you can get utensils other than theirs, Do not eat out of theirs, but if you can not get other than theirs, Wash their utensils and Eat out of it. If you hunt an animal with your bow after mentioning the Name of Allah, Eat of it, and if you hunt something with your trained dog after mentioning the Name of Allah, Eat of it, and if you hunt something with your untrained dog, and slaughter it before it dies, Eat of it" (Sahih Albukhari 5478), then Allah commanded the believers to Fear Him and Fear His punishment if they disobey His commands, indeed, Allah is Swift in reckoning His servants; because His knowledge encompasses all their affairs.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (5) "This day the good things have been made lawful for you, and the food of those who were given the Book is lawful for you and your food is lawful for them, and the chaste women from among the believers and the chaste women from among those who were given the Book before you when you have given them their dowries, being chaste, not being lewd, or taking lovers, and whoever denies the faith, then indeed, his deeds were nullified, and he will be among the losers in the Hereafter", that is, Allah has made lawful for Muslims the good things of provision, and made lawful for them the sacrifices of those who were given the Book from among the Jews and the Christians; Because they do not slaughter to anyone other than Allah and they mention the Name of Allah on their sacrifices, where as narrated by Abdullah bin Mughaffal: "While we were besieging the fort of Khaiybar, a person threw a leather container contains fat, and I ran to take it, but when I saw the Prophet (PBUH), I felt embarrassed in front of Him" (Sahih Albukhari 3153). And the Jews gave Allah's Messenger a cooked sheep on the day of conquest of Khaiybar as narrated by Abu Hurayrah: "When Khaiybar was conquered, a sheep containing poison was given as a present to Allah's Messenger" (Sahih Albukhari 4249). But Allah did not permit the sacrifices of the people of polytheism because slaughter require religion and intention, so they do not mention the Name of Allah on their sacrifices, and they do not stipulate slaughter in the meat they eat, rather they eat the dead animals, and there is no disagreement among the scholars that what does not require slaughter such as fruits, vegetables, and grain is permissible to eat whether from the people of the Scripture or from the polytheists, Likewise, Allah has permitted the sacrifices of Muslims for the people of the Scripture from among the Jews and the Christians.
And Allah has permitted Muslims to marry the chaste women from among the Muslims, and the chaste women from among the Jews and Christians on the condition that they are free women not slave-girls for it is not permissible to marry the slave-girls of the people of the Scripture; Because Allah says in Aya (25) of Surat Alnisa' "And whoever among you cannot find the means to marry chaste believing women, then he marry from those whom your right hands possess of believing women", so Allah has permitted Muslims to marry chaste Muslim women, and chaste free women from among the Jews and the Christians when they have given them their dowries, and just as chastity which is abstinence from adultery is a condition for marrying them, it is also a condition for man, so he must be chaste, not fornicator, not being lewd, or taking secret paramours, so it is not permissible to chaste man to marry a prostitute woman or a chaste woman to marry an immoral man unless they repent and give up the adultery they are committing as Allah has stated in Aya (3) of Surat Alnoor "The adulterer does not marry except an adulteress or a polytheist woman, and the adulteress does not marry her except an adulterer or a polytheist man and that is forbidden to the believers". Then Allah assures that whoever denies the faith and what commanded to be believed in it of monotheism and the Prophecy of His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH), so he refrains from obedience to Allah in what he commands and forbids, then indeed, his deeds were nullified and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers as his deeds have become worthless due to his disbelief, and his abode will be Hellfire on the day of resurrection.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (6) "O you who have believed! When you rise for prayer, then Wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, and Wipe your heads and Wash your feet up to the ankles, and if you are in a state of Janabah, then Purify yourselves, but if you are ill or on a journey or anyone of you has come from the toilet or you have contacted women and you do not find water, so Perform Tayyammum with clean dust, and Wipe your faces and your hands with it, Allah does not intend to place on you any hardship, but He intends to purify you and to complete His favor upon you so that you may give thanks", that is, Allah commanded the believers to perform ablution (Wudu') when standing for prayer, and ablution is a basic condition of the acceptance of prayer, where as narrated by Abu Almalih from his father: "The Prophet (PBUH) said Allah does not accept charity from goods acquired by embezzlement nor does He accept prayer without purification" (Sunan Abu Dawood 59), and as narrated by Abu Hurayrah: "The Messenger of Allah said Allah does not accept the prayer of any of you when you are defiled until you perform ablution"(Sunan Abu Dawood 60). And Allah's Messenger used to perform ablution for every prayer as narrated by Amro bin Amir: "Anas said the Prophet (PBUH) used to perform ablution for every prayer, I asked Anas What did you used to do?, Anas replied we used to pray with the same ablution until we break the ablution (with something that invalidated the ablution" (Sahih Albukhari 214). And Allah's Messenger has made it lighter for His Ummah when He intentionally assured that ablution is not required for every prayer, but it is permissible to perform more than one prayer with one ablution, where as narrated by Sulaiyman bin Buraiydah from his father: "The Messenger of Allah offered prayers with one ablution on the day of conquest (Mecca), and wiped over the socks, Umar said to Him today You have done something that You did not do before, He said O Umar! I have done it intentionally" (Sahih Muslim 277). Ablution is a basic condition for prayer not for anything else, where as narrated by Ibn Abbas: "We were with the Messenger of Allah (PBUH), and He had come out of the lavatory, food was presented to Him, it was said to Him Wouldn't You perform ablution?, upon this He said Why, Am I to perform prayer that I should perform ablution?" (Sahih Muslim 374 b). And the things that invalidate the ablution are urinating, defecating, and passing wind, and the prayer is disliked for whoever is prompted by urine, defecation, or wind, it is better for him to get rid of them, then perform ablution and pray, where as narrated by Ibn Abi Atiq that Aisha said: "I have heard the Messenger of Allah saying no prayer when the food is there, or when he is prompted by the call of nature" (Sahih Muslim 560).
Allah commanded the believers when they rise for the prayer to wash their faces, and it is obligatory to mention the Name of Allah before washing the face, where as narrated by Abu Hurayrah: "The Messenger of Allah said the prayer of a person who does not perform ablution is not valid, and the ablution of a person who does not mention the Name of Allah is not valid" (Sunan Abu Dawood 101). So they should wash the face from the ear to the other one, and the hairline to the chin or the beard for those who have a beard, where as narrated by Anas bin Malik: "Whenever the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) performed ablution, He took a handful of water and putting it under His chin, made it go through His beard saying thus My Lord has commanded Me" (Sunan Abu Dawood 145). And Allah commanded the believers to wash their hands up to the elbows, and wipe their heads, and wash their feet up to the ankles, and as narrated by Abdullah bin Amro: "Once the Prophet (PBUH) remained behind us in a journey, He joined us while we were performing ablution for the prayer which was over-due, we were just passing wet hands over our feet (not washing them properly), so the Prophet addressed us in a loud voice saying twice or thrice Woe to the heels from the Fire" (Sahih Albukhari 60). And as narrated by some companions of the Prophet (PBUH): "The Prophet saw a person offering prayer, and on the back of his foot a small part equal to the space of a Dirham remained unwashed (the water did not reach it), the Prophet commanded him to repeat the ablution and the prayer" (Sunan Abu Dawood 175).
It is permissible to wipe over the socks for a period of one day and one night for a resident, and for three days and nights for a traveler if the socks are worn in a state of ablution and purity, where as narrated by Shuraih bin Hani': "I came to Aisha to ask her about wiping over the socks, she said you better ask the son of Abi Talib (Ali) for he used to travel with Allah's Messenger (PBUH), we asked him and he said the Messenger of Allah stipulated three days and nights for a traveler, and one day and one night for the resident" (Sahih Muslim 276 a), and as narrated by Almughira: "One night I was with the Prophet (PBUH) on a journey, He asked Have you got water with you?, I replied yes, so He got down from His she-camel and went away till He disappeared in the darkness of the night, then He came back and I poured water for Him from the pot, He washed His face and hands, while He was wearing a woolen cloak, so He could not take His arms out of it, so He took them out from underneath the cloak, then He washed His forearms and passed His wet hands over His head, then I tried to take off His Khuffs (Socks made from thick fabric or leather), but He said Leave them, for I have performed ablution before putting them on, and so He passed His wet hands over them" (Sahih Albukhari 5799).
And Uthman bin Affan had made clear how did Allah's Messenger (PBUH) perform ablution as narrated by Humran, the freed slave of Uthman bin Affan: "I saw Uthman bin Affan asking (for a tumbler of water) to perform ablution, and when it was brought, he poured water from it over his hands and washed them thrice and then put his right hand in the water container, and rinsed his mouth and washed his nose by putting water in it, and then blowing it out. Then he washed his face thrice and forearms up to the elbows thrice, then passed his wet hands over his head and then washed each foot thrice, after that Uthman said I saw the Prophet (PBUH) performing ablution like this of mine, and He said if anyone performs ablution like that of Mine and offers a two rak'ahs during which he does not think of anything else, then his past sins will be forgiven" (Sahih Albukhari 164). And as narrated by Asim bin Laqit bin Sabrah from his father: "I said O Messenger of Allah! Inform me about ablution, so He said Perform ablution in full (well), and go between the fingers, and Snuff up water extensively except when you are fasting" (Jami' Altirmidhi 788).
Ablution is a great way to Allah's forgiveness as a person's sins fall from every organ he washes or wipes, where as narrated by Amr bin Abasa Alsulami: "I said O Allah's Prophet! Tell me about ablution, He said none of you who uses water for ablution and rinses his mouth, snuffs up water and blows it, but his sins of his face, his mouth, and his nostrils fall out, when he washes his face as Allah has commanded him, the sins of his face fallout from the end of his beard with water, then he washes his forearms up to the elbows, the sins of his arms fall out along with water from his fingertips, and when he wipes his head, the sins of his head fall out from the points of his hear along with water, and when he washes his feet up to the ankles, the sins of his feet fall out from his toes along with water, and if he stands to pray and praises Allah, lauds Him and glorifies Him with what He deserves, and shows wholehearted devotion to Allah, his sins would depart leaving him as he was on the day his mother bore him. Amr bin Abasa narrated this hadith to Abu Umamah, a companion of Allah's Messenger (PBUH), and Abu Umamah said to him Amr bin Abasa! Think what you are saying that such is given to a man at one place (ablution), upon this, Amr said Abu Umamah I have grown old and my bones have become weak and I am at the door of death, what impetus is there for me to attribute a lie against Allah and the Messenger of Allah, Had I heard it from the Messenger of Allah once, twice, or three times, till he counted seven times, I would have never narrated it, but I have heard it from Him on occasions more than these" (Sahih Muslim 832).
Then Allah commanded the believers to purify themselves if they were in a state of Janabah when they stand for the prayer, and there are three states of Janabah in which the whole body must be washed with water, the first of which is in the case of sexual intercourse, the second is the case of menstruation or puerperium, and the third is ejaculation of water, whether in a sexual dream or while awake, of a man or a woman, where as narrated by Umm Salama: "Umm Sulaim went to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) and said Messenger of Allah! Allah is not ashamed of the truth, Is bathing necessary for a woman when she has a sexual dream?, upon this the Messenger of Allah said yes, when she sees the liquid (Vaginal secretion), Umm Salama said Messenger of Allah! Does a woman have sexual dream?, He said let your hand be covered with dust, in what way does her child resemble her?" (Sahih Muslim 313 a). And as narrated by Aisha: "Whenever the Prophet (PBUH) took a bath after Janabah, He started by washing His hands, and then performed ablution like that for the prayer, after that He would put His fingers in water and move the roots of His hair with them, and then pour water all over His body" (Sahih Albukhari 248).
Allah has permitted Tayyammum with clean dust if Muslims do not find water, where as narrated by Aisha: "We set out with Allah's Messenger (PBUH) on one of His journeys, and when we were at Baida' or Dhat Aljaiysh, a necklace of mine was broken, Allah's Messenger stayed there to look for it, and so did the people along with Him, neither were they at a place of water, nor did they have any water with them, so the people went to Abu Bakr Alsiddiq and said Don't you see what Aisha has done?, she has made Allah's Messenger and the people stay where there is no water and they have no water with them, Abu Bakr came while Allah's Messenger was sleeping with His head on my thigh, he said you have detained Allah's Messenger and the people where there is no water, and they have no water with them, so he admonished me and said what Allah wished him to say, and he hit me on my flanks with his hand, nothing prevented me from moving but the position of Allah's Messenger on my thigh, so Allah's Messenger got up when dawn broke and there was no water, so Allah revealed the verse of Tayyammum, Usaid bin Hudair said it is not the first blessing of yours O family of Abu Bakr, then we made the camel on which I was riding got up and found the necklace under it" (Sahih Albukhari 4607).
Allah commanded the believers to perform tayyammum if they are ill, and the illness that permits Tayyammum is the illness in which there is a fear that using water will harm a limb or prolong healing, or if they are on a journey or if anyone of them has come from the toilet for defecation and urination, or they have sexual intercourse with women and it is reported that Allah's Messenger (PBUH) kissed one of His wives and then prayed without performing ablution as narrated by Aisha: "The Prophet (PBUH) kissed one of His wives and went out to pray, He did not perform ablution, Urwah said I said to her, Who is she except you! Thereupon, she laughed" (Sunan Abu Dawood 179), so if the Muslims do not find water for ablution, then they have to perform tayyammum with clean dust, and wipe their faces and their hands with it, and they have to hit their palms in a clean dust, then shake them off, and wipe their faces with them, then wipe their hands once, where as narrated by Ammar bin Yasir: "I asked the Prophet (PBUH) about tayyammum, He commanded me to strike only one stroke for the face and the hands" (Sunan Abu Dawood 327), and as narrated by Ala'mash that Shaqiq said: "While I was sitting with Abdullah and Abu Musa Alash'ari, the latter asked the former if a person becomes Junub (In the state of Janabah) and does not find water for one month, Can he perform Tayyammum and offer his prayer?, her replied in the negative, Abu Musa said What do you say about this verse from Surat Alma'idah and you do not find water, so Perform tayyammum with clean dust?, Abdullah replied if we allowed it then they would probably perform Tayyammum with clean dust even if water were available but cold, I said you then disliked to perform Tayyammum because of this?, he said yes, Abu Musa said Haven't you heard the statement of Ammar to Umar?, he said I was sent out by Allah's Messenger (PBUH) for some job and I became Junub, and could not find water, so I rolled myself over the dust like an animal does, and when I told the Prophet of that, He said like this would have been sufficient, the Prophet lightly stroked the earth with His hand once and blew it off, then passed His left hand over the back of His right hand or His right hand over the back of His left hand and then passed them over His face, so Abdullah said to Abu Musa Don't you know that Umar was not satisfied with Ammar's statement?, narrated Shaqiq while I was with Abdullah and Abu Musa, the later said to the former Haven't you heard the statement of Ammar to Umar?, He said Allah's Messenger sent you and me out and I became Junub, and I rolled myself in the dust, when we came to Allah's Messenger, I told Him about it and He said this would have been sufficient, passing His hands over His face and the backs of His hands once only" (Sahih Albukhari 347).
And as narrated by Hudhaiyfa: "The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said we have been made to excel people in three: Our rows have been made like the rows of the Angels, and the whole earth has been made a mosque for us, and its dust has been made a purifier for us in case water is not available, and He mentioned another characteristic too" (Sahih Muslim 522 a). Then Allah assures that He does not place any difficulty for Muslims, so He made it easy for them and made the clean dust taking the place of water in some cases, so He permitted them to perform Tayyammum when they are sick, impure, or on a journey on the condition that water was lost as a mercy from Him, and Allah intends to purify Muslims whether through ablution or Tayyammum, so that they may be grateful to Allah for the blessings that He has bestowed upon them as the purification and the prayer are a great way to Paradise. Where as narrated by Uqbah bin Amir: "We were entrusted with the task of tending the camels, on my turn when I came back in the evening after grazing them in the pastures, I found Allah's Messenger (PBUH) standing and addressing the people, I heard these words of his, if any Muslim performs ablution well, then stands and prays two rak'ahs setting about them with his heart as well as his face, Paradise would be guaranteed to him. I said what a fine thing is this! And a narrator who was before me said the first was better than even this, when I cast a glance, I saw that it was Umar who said I see that you have just come and said if anyone amongst you performs the ablution, and then completes the ablution well and then says ashhaduo an la ilaha ella Allahu wa anna Muhammadan abduo Allahi wa rasuluhuo: I testify that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad is the servant of Allah and His Messenger, the eight gates of Paradise would be opened for him and he may enter by whichever of them he wishes" (Sahih Muslim 234 a).
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (7) "And Remember the favor of Allah upon you and His covenant with which He bound you when you said we heard and we obeyed, and Fear Allah, indeed, Allah is All-Knower of what is in the breasts", that is, Allah reminds the believers of the favors that He has bestowed upon them when He has perfected for them their religion, completed His favor upon them, and approved for them Islam as religion as shown above in Aya (3), and Allah reminds them of His covenant with which He bound them when they said we heard and we obeyed, and it was the pledge of allegiance to Allah's Messenger when they converted to Islam, where as narrated by Junadah bin Abi Umaiya: "We entered upon Ubadah bin Alsamit while he was sick, we said may Allah make you healthy, Will you tell us a Hadith you heard from the Prophet (PBUH), He said the Prophet called us and we gave Him the pledge of allegiance, and among the conditions on which He took the pledge from us was that we were to hear and obey both at the time when we were active, and at the time when we were tired, and at our difficult time and at our ease, and to be obedient to the ruler and give him his right even if he did not give us our right, and not to fight against him unless we noticed open disbelief for which we would have a proof with us from Allah" (Sahih Albukhari 7055). So Allah commanded the believers to fulfill their covenant which they affirm upon themselves to listen and obey what He has commanded them to do and what Ha has forbidden them, and to Fear Him and His punishment if they break His covenant which He has taken from them, so if they fulfill their covenant, Allah will fulfill to them what He has promised them by admitting them into paradise and saving them from Hellfire, indeed, He is All-Knower of what is in the breasts, where nothing is hidden from Him even the secrets that the breasts conceal.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (8) "O you who have believed! Be persistently standing firm for Allah, witnesses in justice, and Let not the hatred of a people incite you not to be just, Be just that is nearer to the righteousness, and Fear Allah, indeed, Allah is All-Aware of what you do", that is, Allah commanded the believers to be upright in the truth for Allah, not for the sake of people out of hypocrisy and showing off, and to bear witness to the truth without inclining to their relatives or being unfair to their enemies, so Do not be unjust in your rulings and actions lest you transgress Allah's limits, and Allah's Messenger refused to bear witness to injustice as narrated by Alnu'man bin Basheer: "My mother asked my father to present me a gift from his property, and he gave it to me after hesitation, my mother said that she would not be satisfied unless the Prophet (PBUH) bears witness to it, I being a young boy, my father held me by the hand and took me to the Prophet, he said to the Prophet his mother, Bint Rawaha, asked me to give this boy a gift, the Prophet said Do you have other sons besides him?, he said yes, the Prophet said Do not make Me a witness for injustice, and Abu Huraiz said from Alsha'bi that the Prophet said I don not bear witness to injustice" (Sahih Albukhari 2650). Then Allah commanded the believers to let not the hatred of a people compel them to abandon justice towards them, but rather use justice towards everyone, whether a friend or a foe, and being just to them is closer to piety, so you will be a people of righteousness in the sight of Allah; Because whoever is just is obedient to Allah in his justice, and whoever is obedient to Allah is undoubtedly among the people of piety, and whoever is unjust is disobedient to Allah, and whoever is disobedient to Allah is undoubtedly far from the people of piety, then Allah commanded the believers to fear Him and fear His punishment, indeed, Allah is All-Aware of what they do of good or evil, and nothing of their deeds is hidden from Him.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (9,10) "Allah has promised those who believed and did righteous deeds, for them there is forgiveness and great reward, and those who disbelieved and denied Our signs, those are the companions of the Hell", that is, Allah has promised those who believed in Him, His Messengers, and His Books, and did righteous deeds that He will forgive their sins, and for them there is a great reward in the Hereafter as He will admit them into Paradise, abiding therein forever, but those who disbelieved in Allah, His Messengers, and His Books, and denied His signs with which He has sent His Messengers, those are the companions of Hellfire, abiding therein forever.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (11) "O you who have believed! Remember the favor of Allah upon you when a people determined to extend their hands against you, but He withheld their hands from you, and Fear Allah, and upon Allah let the believers put their trust", that is, Allah commanded the believers to remember His favor that He has bestowed upon them when He withheld the hands of those who intended to cause harm to them, and prevented them from doing what they wanted, and it was said they were the Jews who intended to kill Allah's Messenger (PBUH) when they prepared a poisoned sheep for the Messenger of Allah and His companions in order to kill them as shown above in Aya (5), but Allah inspired Him of what they intended, or when the Jews of Banu Alnadir intended to kill Allah's Messenger when He came to them asking them for Aldiyya (The blood money) of the two Muslims from the tribe of Banu Amir whom they killed, and they appointed Amro bin Jahash bin Ka'b to rise above the house and throw a rock on the head of Allah's Messenger when they gather with Him under the wall, but Allah informed Him of what they agreed upon, so He returned to Medina and His companions followed Him. And it was said that this verse was revealed about the Bedouin who intend to kill Allah's Messenger in the Battle of Dhat Alriqa', where as narrated by Jabir bin Abdullah that he proceeded in the company of Allah's Messenger (PBUH) towards Najd to participate in a Battle, when Allah's Messenger returned, he too returned with Him, midday came upon them while they were in a valley having many thorny trees, Allah's Messenger and the people dismounted and dispersed to rest in the shade of the trees, Allah's Messenger rested under a Sumura tree and hung His sword on it, we all took a nap and suddenly we heard Allah's Messenger calling us to see a Bedouin with Him, and He said this Beouin took out My sword while I was sleeping and when I woke up, I found the unsheathed sword in his hand, and he challenged Me saying Who will save You from Me?, I said thrice Allah, the Prophet did not punish him, but sat down (Sahih Albukhari 2910). Then Allah commanded the believers to fear Him and fear His punishment, and upon Allah let the believers put their trust and submit all their affairs to Him alone, and if they do so, He will help them against those who intend harm to them.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (12) "And indeed, Allah has taken a covenant from the Children of Israel, and We delegated from among them twelve leaders, and Allah said, indeed, I am with you if you establish the prayer and give the Zakah, and believe in My Messengers and venerate them, and loan Allah a goodly loan, I will surely expiate from you your evil deeds and I will surely admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow, but whoever of you disbelieves after that, then certainly he has gone astray from the straight way'', that is, Allah assures that treachery and breaking the covenant were among the characteristics and the morals of the Children of Israel, the predecessors and the successors, so Allah informs about the Children of Israel from whom He has taken a covenant, and Allah delegated from among them twelve leaders, so each leader was responsible for his tribe in their pledge of allegiance, hearing, and obedience to Allah and His Messenger Moses, peace be upon Him, so they were twelve guarantors who guaranteed their people to listen, obey, and fulfill Allah's covenant in what He has commanded them and what He has forbade them. Allah has taken a covenant from the Children of Israel that He is with them by His protection, guardianship, and support if they establish the prayer, give the obligatory charity, believe in His Messengers in what they came with from Allah's revelation, and venerate them, loan Allah a goodly loan by spending in His way and seeking His pleasure, so if they do so, Allah will surely expiate from them their evil deeds and will not hold them accountable for them, then He will surely admit them into gardens beneath which rivers flow on the day of resurrection, but whoever breaks this covenant, denies and abandons anything of what Allah has commanded him to do, and disbelieves after that, then he has erred and turned away from the path of guidance to the path of error.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (13) "So because of their breaking of their covenant, We have cursed them and made their hearts hard, they distort the words from their places and have forgotten a portion of that with which they were reminded, and You will not cease to observe treachery among them except a few of them, but Pardon them, and Overlook, indeed, Allah loves the good doers", that is, when the Children of Israel violated and broke the covenant of Allah, Allah has cursed them and kept them away from His mercy in the worldly life and the Hereafter, and made their heart hard, so they did not take heed of any admonition due to their harshness, and they will not believe nor will they be guided, they distorted the words of Allah from their proper places, so they misinterpreted the verses of Allah and interpreted the Torah in a wrong way and other than what Allah intended, they wrote with their own hands other than what Allah has revealed to His Prophet Moses and said to their people this is the words of Allah that He has revealed in the Torah as mentioned in Aya (78) of Surat Aliemran, and they changed the rulings of Allah regarding stoning the married adulterers and retaliation for murder as will come later in Ayat (41,42). They also have forgotten a portion of what they were reminded with and abandoned acting according to it, and neglected Allah's commands. Then Allah addresses His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) saying that He will not cease to observe treachery, betrayal, and breaking of covenants among the Jews except a few of them like the Jews of Banu Alnadir who intended to kill Allah's Messenger as shown above in Aya (11), then Allah commanded His Messenger to pardon them and overlook those who wronged Him, and Allah loves the good doers who worship Allah as if they see Him, and if they can not see Him, then Allah sees them, so they act according to Allah's commands and prohibitions.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (14) "And from those who say indeed, we are Christians We took their covenant, but they have forgotten a portion of that with which they were reminded, so We aroused between them enmity and hatred until the day of resurrection, and Allah will inform them of what they used to do", that is, Allah has taken a covenant from those who claimed to be Christians following the Christ while they are not for they invented Christianity, that they would follow and support the Prophet Jesus, the son of Mary, and believe in Allah's Messenger Muhammad (PBUH), but they did as the Jews did, and violated the covenant of Allah, and they have forgotten a portion of what they were reminded with, abandoned acting according to Allah's Book, and neglected Allah's commands. So Allah created among them enmity and hatred for one another, and they will continue to do so until the day of resurrection, so the Christians sects of different races continue to hate each other, declaring each other infidels and cursing each other, thereupon, Allah will take revenge on them, and will inform them on the day of resurrection of what they were doing in the worldly life such as breaking Allah's covenant, altering His Book, and distorting His commands and prohibitions.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (15,16) "O people of the Book! Indeed, Our Messenger has come to you, making clear to you much of what you were concealing of the Book and overlooking much, indeed, there has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book, by which Allah guides those who pursue His pleasure to the ways of peace and brings them out of the darknesses to the light by His permission and guides them to a straight path", that is, Allah addresses the Jews and the Christians saying that He has sent His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) with the guidance and the religion of the truth, making clear to them much of what they used to conceal from the people, and of what they do not make clear of their Scripture, so Allah's Messenger explains what they have changed and distorted, and what they have invented of lie against Allah, and He overlooked much of what they have changed when there is no need or benefit of explaining it, rather, He explains what contains evidence of His prophecy and the truthfulness of what He came with from Allah, and the stoning of married adulterers was among what they concealed from their Book and Allah's Messenger (PBUH) made it clear to the people, where as narrated by Abdullah bin Umar: "A Jew and a Jewess were brought to Allah's Messenger (PBUH) who had committed adultery, Allah's Messenger came to the Jews and said What do you find in the Torah for one who commits adultery?, they said We darken their faces and make them ride on the donkey with their faces turned to the opposite direction, and then they are taking around (the city), He said Bring the Torah if you are truthful, they brought it and recited it until when they came to the verse pertaining of stoning, the person who was reading placed his hand on the verse pertaining to stoning, and recited what came before it and what came after it, Abdullah bin Salam who was at that time with the Messenger of Allah said Command him to lift his hand, he lifted his hand and there was underneath that the verse pertaining to stoning, Allah's Messenger pronounced judgment about both of them and they were stoned, Abdullah bin Umar said I was one of those who stoned them, and I saw him (the Jew) protecting her (the Jewess) with his body" (Sahih Muslim 1699 a), and in another narration, the Jews said to Allah's Messenger (PBUH) that they only expose the two adulterers and flog them (Sahih Albukhari 6841).
Then Allah assures them that He has sent His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) with the Holy Quran which is a light and a clear Book, and by which Allah has illuminated for them the outlines of the truth, in which there is an explanation of what they differed about among themselves regarding the monotheism of Allah, what is permissible and what is forbidden, and the laws of His religion, and by which Allah guides those who seek Allah's pleasure, so they act according to what pleases Allah, and avoid what displeases Him, to the ways of salvation and righteousness, so Allah guides them to the path which He has legislated for His servants and with which He has sent His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH), and it is the religion of Islam not Judaism, Christianity, or Magianism. And Allah brings the people out of the darknesses of disbelief and misguidance to the light of faith and guidance by the His permission; For Allah guides whom He wills and lets go astray whom He wills, and Allah guides them to a straight path which is the upright religion of Allah in which there is no crookedness or distortion.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (17) "Indeed, they have disbelieved those who say indeed, Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary, Say then who has power against Allah in anything if He intended to destroy the Messiah, the son of Mary, and His mother and whoever is on the earth, all together?, and to Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and whatever is between both of them, He creates what He wills, and Allah is All-Powerful over everything'', that is, Allah tells about the disbelief of the Christians who invents a lie against Allah and claimed that the Christ, the son of Mary is Allah while He is Allah's servant and Messenger, and it was the first word he spoke when He was a child in the cradle when Maryam brought Him to her people as mentioned in Aya (30) of Surat Maryam "He said indeed, I am the servant of Allah, He has given Me the book and made Me a Prophet". Then Allah tells about His power, authority, and subjugation over everything commanding His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) to say to them Who is able to change anything from Allah's command if He intended to destroy the Messiah, the son of Mary, and His mother and whoever is on the earth, all together?, so if the Christ were a god, He would be able to ward off what befalls Him or anyone else, and Allah has taken His Mother Mary in death, and He was not able to ward off death from her, then Allah assures that the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between both of them belongs to Him alone, and He disposes of them as He wills and creates what He wills, so all beings are His creation, and Allah is All-powerful to do whatever He wills, and neither impediment nor inability can prevent Him from doing whatever He wills.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (18) "And the Jews and the Christians said we are the children of Allah and His beloved, Say then Why does He punish you for your sins?, but you are human beings from among those He has created, He forgives whom He wills, and He punishes whom He wills, and to Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between both of them, and to Him is the final return'', that is, Allah responds to the lie of the Jews and the Christians when they said we are the children of Allah and His beloved ones commanding His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) to say to them Why does Allah punish you for your sins if you are His children and His beloved ones?, the matter is not as you claimed when you acknowledge that Allah will punish the disobedient from among you, you are human beings from among Allah's creation and you are like the other children of Adam, if you do good, you will be rewarded for your good deeds just as the rest of Children of Adam will be rewarded for their good deeds, and if you do evil, you will be recompensed for your evil deeds just as the rest of the children of Adam will be recompensed for their evil deed, you have nothing with Allah except what others of His creation have, He forgives the sins for whomever He wills out of His grace and mercy, and punishes whom He wills, then Allah assures that the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between both of them belongs to Him alone, and He disposes them as He wills, and to Him is the final return on the day of resurrection and He will recompense each for His deeds, so if you repent, believe, and do righteous deeds, He will forgive you and admit you into Paradise, and if you persist on disbelief and denial, He will punish you and cast you into Hellfire.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (19) "O people of the Book! Indeed, Our Messenger has come to you to make clear to you after a period of the Messengers lest you say there has not come to us any bearer of glad tidings or a warner, but indeed, there has come to you a bearer of glad tidings and a warner, and Allah is All-Powerful over everything'', that is, Allah addresses the Jews and the Christians saying that He has sent His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) after whom there is no Prophet or Messenger in order to make clear to them the path of guidance and the religion of Allah, and He brought them the Holy Quran with which Allah distinguishes the truth from the falsehood and the guidance from the misguidance after a long period of cessation of the Messengers between Him and the Prophet Jesus, peace be upon Him as there was no Prophet between Allah's Messenger and the Prophet Jesus as narrated by Abu Hurayrah (Sunan Abu Dawood 4324), and in that period, the religion of Allah has changed, the worship of idols increased, the corruption had spread throughout the earth, and the ignorance had appeared among all people except for a few who adhered to the religions of ancient Messengers such as the Jews rabbis and the Christian worshipers, where as narrated by Ayyad bin Himar that Allah's Messenger said while delivering a sermon one day: "And indeed, Allah looked at the people of the earth and detested them, their Arabs and Non-Arabs, except for the remnants of the people of the Book" (Sahih Muslim 2865 a). And Allah has sent His Messenger in order to guide the people to the straight path and bring them out from the darknesses of disbelief to the light of belief as shown above in Aya (16), lest they say there has not come to us any bearer of glad tidings or a warner, but Allah cut off their excuse and assured them that He has sent His Messenger Muhammad as a bearer of glad tidings of Paradise for those who obey Allah and believe in Him, and a warner of Hellfire for those who disobey Allah, and Allah is All-powerful to do whatever He wills, and neither impediment nor inability can prevent Him from doing whatever He wills.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (20,21) "And when Moses said to His people O My people! Remember the favor of Allah upon you when He appointed among you Prophets and made you kings and gave you that which He had not given to anyone of the worlds, O My people! Enter the Holy land which Allah has decreed for you and Do not turn on your backs, then you will turn as losers", that is, Allah tells about the story of the Prophet Moses, peace be upon Him, with His people when He reminded them with Allah's blessings that He has bestowed upon them saying Remember the favors of Allah upon you when He appointed Prophets among you, whenever a Prophet died, a Prophet rises among you from the Progeny of the Prophet Abraham, and there were still Prophets among them calling to Allah and warning of His punishment until they were sealed with the Prophet Jesus, and Allah made you kings when Allah made them possessors of wealth and children, and Allah bequeathed them the land of Egypt after they were enslaved in it as mentioned in Aya (59) of Surat Alshu'araa, and Allah gave you that which He had not given to anyone of the worlds in your time, and as narrated by Abdulrahman Alhubuli: "I heard Abdullah bin Amr bin Alas and a man asked him and said Are we not among the poor immigrants?, Abdullah said to him Do you have a spouse with whom you live?, he said yes, he said Do you have a home in which you reside?, he said yes, Abdullah said then you are amongst the rich, he said I have a slave also, thereupon, Abdullah said then you are amongst the kings" (Sahih Muslim 2979 a). Then the Prophet Moses urges His people to fight in the way of Allah (Jihad) and enter the Holy land which Allah has decreed for them, and it was said that the Holy land was Jerusalem, and they were therein in the time of their father the Prophet Jacob before His migration with His sons to Egypt as mentioned in Surat Yusuf, then a tyrannical people took possession of it, so the Prophet Moses ordered His people to fight them and not to turn on their backs and abandon Jihad in the way of Allah lest they will turn as losers by abandoning Allah's command, and then they will deserve His punishment.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (22,23) "They said O Moses! Indeed, therein are a tyrannical people, and indeed, we will never enter it until they leave it, but if they leave it, we will certainly enter it, two men from those who feared, upon whom Allah has bestowed favor said Enter upon them the gate, so when you have entered it, then indeed, you will be the victors, and Put your trust upon Allah if you are believers'', that is, the people of the Prophet Moses said to Him that in the Holy land which He commanded them to enter and fight its people, there are a tyrannical people of powerful forces and formidable creation, so they are not able to resist them and they have no power to fight them, so they cannot enter the Holy land as long as they remain in it, but if the tyrants leave it, they will enter it. When the Children of Israel refrain from obeying Allah's command and following the Prophet Moses, two men from those who feared Allah and feared His punishment, upon whom Allah has bestowed a great blessings urged their people to fight the tyrannical people, and it was said that they were Yoshau bin Nun and Caleb bin Yovanna, so they said to their people Enter upon them the gate, so when you have entered it, then indeed, you will be the victors when you put your trust upon Allah, follow His commands, and follow His Messenger, Allah will grant you victory over your enemies, so if you are believers, then Put your trust upon Allah alone for He is Able to fulfill what He has promised you of empowering you in the Holy land which He has decreed for you.
Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (24-26) "They said O Moses! Indeed, we will not enter it, ever, as long as they are within it, so Go, You and Your Lord, and Fight You both, indeed, we are sitting here, He said My Lord! Indeed, I do not possess except Myself and My brother, so Make a separation between us and the disobedient people, He said, then indeed, it is forbidden to them for forty years, they will wander throughout the earth, so Do not grieve over the disobedient people'', that is, when the Children of Israel were urged to fight the tyrannical people, and were promised that Allah will grant them victory if they enter the gate upon them, they despaired of victory and said to the Prophet Moses we will never enter the town of the tyrannical people as long as they are in it, and said to Him in stubbornness and disbelief Go, You and Your Lord, and Fight you both, indeed, we are sitting here, so we will not fight them, and as narrated by Abdullah bin Mas'ud: "On the day of Badr, Almiqdad said O Allah's Messenger! We do not say to You as the Children of Israel said to Moses "So Go, You and Your Lord, and Fight You both, indeed, we are sitting here", but we say Proceed and we are with You, that seemed to delight Allah's Messenger (PBUH) greatly" (Sahih Albukhari 4609). Then the Prophet Moses said My Lord! I have no power over anyone but Myself and My brother Aaron, so none of them will obey Me or obey Your command, and none will respond to what I have called for except Me and My brother, so Part us from the disobedient people who disobey Allah's commands, and oppose Him and His Messengers. Allah answered the call of His Prophet Moses and punished the Children of Israel for forty years of wandering around the land, so the Holy land was forbidden for them, and they will not enter it for forty years, but they will wander around the earth and will not find any way out of it, and Allah commanded His Prophet Moses not to grieve over the disobedient people for whatever Allah judge them with because they deserve it.
Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (27-29) "And Recite to them the news of the two sons of Adam, in truth, when they both offered a sacrifice, and it was accepted from one of them but it was not accepted from the other, he said I will surely kill you, he said indeed, Allah only accepts from the righteous, if you should extend your hand against me to kill me, I shall not extend my hand against you to kill you, indeed, I fear Allah, the Lord of the worlds, indeed, I want you to bear my sin and your sin, so you will be among the companions of the Fire, and that is the recompense of the wrongdoers", that is, Allah commanded His Messenger Muhammad to recite the news of Cain and Abel, the two sons of Adam in truth, when they both offered a sacrifice to Allah, and Allah accepted the sacrifice from one of them, and did not accept from the other, and it was said that Allah has prescribed for Adam to marry His daughters to His sons due to the necessity as there were no children on the earth except from the lineage of Adam, so in every time twins, a male and a female, were born to Adam, so He would marry the female of one twin to the male of the other twin, and Abel's sister was ugly, and Cain's sister was beautiful, so Abel wanted to keep his sister for himself, but Adam refused to do so unless they both offer an offering, and whoever Allah accepts his offering, then she is his, so they both offered an offering, and it was accepted from Abel, and Allah has sent a fire to consume Abel's offering, but it was not accepted from Cain, thereupon, Cain said to his brother Abel out of envy and enmity towards him I will surely kill you, then Abel said to him indeed, Allah only accepts from the righteous who fear Allah and fear His punishment, so they act according to His commands and prohibitions, then He said to Cain if you should extend your hand against me to kill me, I shall not extend my hand against you to kill you so I will not reciprocate your evil deeds with the same, so then we would be equal in sin, indeed, I fear Allah, the Lord of the worlds, and I fear His punishment if I do what He has not permitted.
Then Abel said to his brother Cain I want you to bear the sin of killing me and the sin that you have committed before, so you will be among the companions of the Fire on the day of resurrection, and that is the recompense of the wrongdoers who transgress Allah's commands and turn away from the path of guidance, undoubtedly, Cain will bear the sin of every human being who was killed without right until the day of resurrection, where as narrated by Abdullah bin Mas'ud that Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said: "Whenever a soul is murdered unjustly but there is a share of the burden of its blood on the first son of Adam for he was the first to introduce murdering" (Sahih Albukhari 3335). And as narrated by Abu Dharr that Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said: "What will you do O Abu Dharr when death overwhelms the people to the extent that a grave will be equal in value to a slave?, I said whatever Allah and His Messenger choose for me, or Allah and His Messenger know best, He said Be patient, He said What will you do when a famine strikes the people so that you will go to the place where you pray and will not be able to return to your bed, or you will not be able to get up from your bed to go to the place where you pray?, He said I said Allah and His Messenger know best or whatever Allah and His Messenger choose for me, He said you must refrain from forbidden things, He said What will you do when killing befalls the people so that Hijaratuo Alzait (A place in Medina) is covered with blood?, I said whatever Allah and His Messenger choose for me, He said Stay with those whom you belong to, He said I said O Messenger of Allah! Should I not take my sword and strike those who do that?, He said then you will be just like the people, rather Enter your house, I said O Messenger of Allah! What if they enter my house?, He said if you are afraid that the flashing of the sword will dazzle you, then Put the edge of your garment over your face, and Let him bear his sin and your sin, then he will be one of the people of the Fire" (Sunan Ibn Majah 3958). But if the murderer and the murdered are keen to kill each other then they both will be among the people of Hellfire, where as narrated by Alahnaf bin Qais: "While I was going to help this man (Ali bin Abi Talib), Abu Bakrah met me and asked Where are you going?, I replied I am going to help that person, He said Go back for I have heard Allah's Messenger (PBUH) saying when two Muslims fight each other with their swords, both the murderer as well as the murdered will go to Hellfire, I said O Allah's Messenger! It is all right for the murderer, but what about the murdered one?, Allah's Messenger replied he surely had the intention to kill his companion" (Sahih Albukhari 31).
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (30,31) "And his soul permitted to him the murder of his brother, so he killed him and became among the losers, then Allah sent a crow searching in the ground to show him how to hide the body of his brother, he said O woe to me! Have I been unable to be like this crow and hide the body of my brother?, and he became of the regretful", that is, the soul of Cain permitted to him the murder of his brother Abel, so his soul made the matter easier for him and encouraged him to kill his brother, then he became among the losers in the worldly life and the Hereafter, after Cain killed Abel, he did not know how to deal with the corpse of Abel, then Allah taught him how to bury his brother by sending a living crow searching in the ground in order to bury a dead crow, then Cain said O woe to me! Have I been unable to be like this crow and hide the body of my brother?, and he became of the regretful for what he had committed of disobedience to Allah and killing his brother.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (32) "Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul for other than a soul or corruption on the earth, it is as if he had killed mankind entirely, and whoever saves it, it is as if he had saved mankind entirely, and our messengers had certainly come to them with clear proofs, then indeed, many of them after that were transgressors throughout the earth", that is, because of the killing of Abel unjustly, Allah has decreed and legislated for the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul without any right like that this person had killed a soul or spread corruption on the land, so he deserves the legal punishment, it is as if he had killed all mankind, and whoever saves a life of a person or refrain from killing without any right for fear of Allah, then it is as if he saves the life of mankind entirely. Then Allah assures that He has sent His Messengers to the Children of Israel with the clear proofs that indicate the truthfulness of what they came with from Allah, but they denied and opposed their Messengers and many of them were transgressors on the earth by disobeying Allah's commands and prohibitions, opposing His Messengers, and distorting the words of Allah from their places to fit their own desires as shown above in Aya (13).
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (33,34) "Indeed, the recompense of those who war Allah and His Messenger and strive to spread corruption on the earth is nothing but that they be killed or they be crucified or that their hands and their feet be cut off of opposite sides, or that they be exiled from the land, that is for them a disgrace in this world, and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment, except for those who repent before that you overpower them, and Know that Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful", that is, Allah stipulates the legal punishment of those who war Allah and His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) by preventing the people from the way of Allah, and strive to spread corruption on the land by killing without any right, brandishing weapons, cutting off the road, and plundering property, so Allah assures that their recompense is nothing but that they be killed or they be crucified or that their hands and their feet be cut off of opposite sides such as cutting off the right hand and the left leg or vise versa, or that they be exiled from the land, that is for them a disgrace and humiliation in the worldly life, and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment in Hellfire, and as narrated by Anas bin Malik: "A group of eight men from the tribe of Ukil came to the Prophet (PBUH) and then they found the climate of Medina unsuitable for them, so they said O Allah's Messenger! Provide us with some milk, Allah's Messenger said I recommend that you should join the herd of camels, so they went and drank the urine and the milk of the camels (as medicine) till they became healthy and fat, then they killed the shepherd and drove away the camels, and they became disbelievers after they were Muslims, when the Prophet (PBUH) was informed by a shouter for help, He sent some men in their pursuit, and before the sun rose high, they were brought, and He had their hands and feet cut off, then He ordered for nails which were heated and passed over their eyes, and they were left in the Harra (rocky land in Medina), they asked for water, and nobody provided them with water till they died, Abu Qilabah, a sub-narrator said they committed murder and theft, warred Allah and His Messenger, and spread corruption on the earth" (Sahih Albukhari 3018). But Allah has made an exception for those who repent before the Muslims overpower them, so if they repent willingly, the legal punishment for what they committed of waging war against Allah and His Messenger, and spreading corruption on the land will be waived from them, and Know that Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful for those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds.
Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (35-37) "O you who have believed! Fear Allah and Seek the means of closeness to Him and Strive in His way so that you may succeed, indeed, those who disbelieved, if they have whatever is on the earth, all, and its like with it to ransom thereby from the punishment of the day of resurrection, it will not be accepted from them, and for them there is a painful punishment, they will wish to come out of the Fire, and they will not come out of it, and for them there is a constant punishment", that is, Allah commanded the believers to fear Him and fear His punishment, so Act according to His commands and prohibitions, and to seek the means of closeness to Allah by doing what pleases Him and avoiding what makes Him angry, and to strive in His way by fighting the enemies of Allah from among the disbelievers and the polytheists, so that they may succeed in the worldly life and the Hereafter, and they will win the bliss that Allah has prepared for the righteous in Paradise. But on the other hand, Allah has prepared a painful punishment on the day of resurrection for the disbelievers, so if those who disbelieved in Allah, His Messengers, and His books had whatever is on the earth of wealth and adornment and the like of it with it, they would ransom themselves thereby in order to be saved from the punishment of the day of resurrection, but the ransom will not be accepted from them even if they have an earth full of gold as Allah has stated in Aya (91) of Surat Aliemran, and for them there is a painful punishment in Hellfire, and Allah's Messenger said in narration of Anas bin Malik: "Allah will say to he whose punishment is easiest from among the people of Hellfire: If you had everything on the earth, would you ransom yourself with it? He will say Yes, Allah will say I asked you what is easier than this while you were in the backbone of Adam, that you should not associate anything with Me, but you refused except polytheism" (Sahih Albukhari 3334). and when those who disbelieved enter Hellfire on the day of resurrection, they will wish to come out of it, but they will not come out of it, rather, they will abide therein forever as whenever they want to come out of Hellfire, from the anguish they are in, they will be returned to it as mentioned in Aya (22) of Surat Alhajj, so for them there is a constant punishment in Hellfire that neither ends nor be lightened for them.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (38) "And the male thief and the female thief, then Cut off their hands as recompense for what they both earned as a deterrent torment from Allah, and Allah is Almighty, All-Wise", that is, Allah commanded that the hands of the male and the female who committed theft be cut off as a recompense for what they both earned of theft and taking people's property unlawfully, as a deterrent torment from Allah, and Allah is Almighty who is Severe in His revenge on those who disobeyed Him, All-Wise who manages His creation with wisdom in His laws and destiny, and the hand of the thief should only be amputated from the knuckle for a quarter of Dinar, or for what its value is a quarter of a Dinar whatever the stolen item is, where as narrated by Aisha that Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said: "The hand of a thief should not be cut off but for a quarter of a Dinar and upwards" (Sahih Muslim 1684 c), so it does not specifically mean that the stolen item is a quarter of a Dinar, but it means everything stolen has a value equivalent to a quarter of a Dinar, and the Dinar is a weight of gold, and is currently equivalent to 4.25 gram of gold, 24 carat, so the quarter of Dinar is approximately one gram of gold. And Allah's Messenger warns against stealing small things the recompense of which is cutting of the hand of the thief, where as narrated by Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (PBUH) said: "Allah curses a man who steals an egg and gets his hand cut off, or steals a rope and gets his hand cut off, Al'amash said the people used to interpret the Baida (egg) as an iron helmet, and they used to think that the rope may cost a few Dirhams" (Sahih Albukhari 6783).
And Allah's Messenger (PBUH) did not hesitate to carry out the legal punishment of the theft, and cutting of the hand of the thief whether he was a man or a woman, a rich or a poor, where as narrated by Urwa bin Alzubair: "A lady committed theft during the lifetime of Allah's Messenger (PBUH) in the Battle of Alfath (Conquest of Mecca), her folk went to Usama bin Zaid to intercede for her. When Usama interceded for her with Allah's Messenger, the color of the face of Allah's Messenger changed and He said Do you intercede with Me in a matter involving one of the legal punishments prescribed by Allah?, Usama said O Allah's Messenger! Ask Allah's forgiveness for me, so in the afternoon, Allah's Messenger got up and addressed the people, He praised Allah as He deserves and then said Amma Ba'du, the nations prior to you were destroyed because if a noble amongst them stole, they used to excuse him, and if a poor person amongst them stole, they would apply legal punishment to him, By Him in whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad! If Fatima, the daughter of Muhammad stole, I would cut off her hand, then Allah's Messenger gave his order in the case of that woman and her hand was cut off, afterwards her repentance proved sincere and she got married, Aisha said that lady used to visit me and I used to convey her demands to Allah's Messenger" (Sahih Albukhari 4304). And as narrated by Safwan bin Umayyah: "I was sleeping in the mosque on a cloak mine whose price was thirty Dirhams, a man came and pinched it away from me, the man was seized and brought to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH), He ordered that his hand should be cut off, I came to Him and said Do you cut off only for thirty Dirhams?, I sell it to him and make the payment of its price a loan?, He said Why did you not do so before bringing him to Me" (Sunan Abu Dawood 4394).
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (39,40) "But whoever repents after his wrongdoing and reforms, indeed, Allah will turn to him, indeed, Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful, Do you not know that to Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth?, He punishes whom He wills and forgives whom He wills, and Allah is All-Powerful over everything", that is, whoever repents from among these thieves after his wrongdoing by committing theft, so he repents from theft, returns the stolen thing to his owner, and reforms by giving up the sins he commits, and beginning to perform acts of obedience, Allah will turn to him in mercy and forgiveness, indeed, Allah is All-forgiving, Most Merciful for those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds, where as narrated by Ibn Umar: "A woman used to borrow jewelry from the people then keep it, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said Let this woman repent to Allah and His Messenger and give back to the people what she has taken, then Allah's Messenger said Get up O Bilal, Take her hand and Cut it off" (Sunan Alnasai 4889). Then Allah addresses His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) saying Do you not know that to Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth?, so the kingdom of the heavens and the earth belongs to Him alone, and He disposes them as He wills, so He punishes whom He wills and forgives whom He wills, and Allah is All-powerful to do whatever He wills, and neither impediment nor inability can prevent Him from doing whatever He wills.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (41) "O Messenger! Let not grieve You those who hasten into disbelief of those who say we believe with their mouths, but their hearts do not believe, and from among those who are Jews, they are listeners to the lie, and listeners to another people who have not come to You, they distort the words beyond their places saying if you are given this, so Take it, but if you are not given it, then Beware, but he for whom Allah intends trial, then You will not possess anything for him against Allah, those are the ones whom Allah does not intend to purify their hearts, for them in the world is disgrace and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment", that is, Allah addresses His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) saying Do not grieve for those who hasten to disbelief and disobey Allah and disobey You, those who put their desires ahead of the laws of Allah from among the hypocrites who said we have believed with their tongues while their hearts were empty of faith, and from among the Jews, and they all, the hypocrites and the Jews listen to the falsehood and the lie, so they respond to the lie and follow it, and refuse to follow the truth, and they listen to other people, as they listen the words of Allah's Messenger and convey them to His enemies who are not present with Allah's Messenger, and they distort the words beyond their places, as they interpret the words of Allah in a way other than their interpretation and change them after they have understood them while they know, where they had changed the ruling of Allah regarding stoning the married adulterers, and replaced it with exposing and lashing both of them, and they also changed the ruling of Allah regarding the retaliation for murder.
And they say if you are given this, so Take it, but if you are not given it, then Beware when they appealed to Allah's Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) regarding the matter of the Jew and the Jewess who had committed adultery, and they said if Allah's Messenger orders you to lash the two, then Take it and Accept His judgment, but if He orders you to stone both of them, then Beware, and Do not accept His judgment, and as narrated by Albaraa bin Azib: "There happened to pass by Allah's Messenger (PBUH) a Jew blackened and lashed, Allah's Messenger called them (The Jews) and said Is this the punishment that you find in your Book as a prescribed punishment for adultery?, they said yes, Allah's Messenger called one of the scholars amongst them and said I ask you in the Name of Allah who sent down the Torah on Moses Is that is the prescribed punishment for adultery that you find in your Book?, he said no, Had you not asked me in the Name of Allah, I would not have given You this information, we find stoning to death, but this became quite common amongst our aristocratic class, so when we caught hold of any rich person, we spared him, but when we caught hold a helpless person, we impose the prescribed punishment upon him, we then said Let us agree on a punishment which we can inflict both upon the rich and the poor, so we decided to blacken the face with coal and flog as a substitute punishment for stoning, thereupon, Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said O Allah! I am the first to revive your command when they had made it dead, He then commanded and the married adulterer was stoned to death, so Allah has sent down "O Messenger! Let not grieve You those who hasten into disbelief" till His saying "If you are given this, so Take it", they said Go to Muhammad if He commanded you to blacken the face and lashing, then Accept it, but if He gives you verdict for stoning, then Avoid it, so Allah has sent down "And whoever does not judge by what Allah has sent down, then they are the disbelievers Aya (44)", "And whoever does not judge by what Allah has sent down, then they are the wrongdoers Aya (45), "And whoever does not judge by what Allah has sent down, then they are the disobedient Aya (47)" (Sahih Muslim 1700 a).
Then Allah reassured His Messenger that He has decreed upon them that they will not repent from their misguidance, nor will they return from their disbelief, so whoever Allah intends to put him into trial, and let him go astray from the path of guidance, You will never have the power to save him from what Allah intended for him of confusion and misguidance, so Let not their disbelief grieve You, for those are the ones whom Allah does not intend to purify their hearts from the filth of disbelief and polytheism with purity of faith, rather He has sealed over their hearts, so they will not believe, so for them there are disgrace and humiliation in the worldly life, and a painful torment awaits them in Hellfire on the day of resurrection.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (42,43) "They are listeners to the lie, eaters of unlawful, so if they come to You, Judge between them or turn away from them, and if You turn away from them, then they will not harm You in anything, and if You judge, so Judge between them with justice, indeed, Allah loves those who act justly, and How do they make You judge while they have with them the Torah in which is the Judgment of Allah?, then they turn away after that, and those are not believers", that is, Allah assures for the second time that the Jews who distort the words beyond their places and conceal much of the Torah as shown above in Aya (15) are listeners to the falsehood and the lie, so they respond to the lie and follow it, and refuse to follow the truth, and they are devourers of the unlawful wealth for they conceal what Allah has sent down of the Book and exchange it for a small price as Allah has stated in Aya (174) of Surat Albaqarah: "Indeed those who conceal what Allah has sent down of the Book and exchange it for a small price, those do not consume into their bellies except the Fire, and Allah will not speak to them on the day of resurrection, nor will He purify them, and they will have a painful punishment".
So the Jews are devourers of the unlawful by concealing Allah's judgment such as the judgment of the married adulterers as shown in the previous verse, and the judgement of the retaliation for murder, thereupon, Allah addressed His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) saying if the Jews come to You, then Judge between them or turn away from them, and if you turn away from them, then they will not harm You in anything; Because they did not come to You in order to follow the truth, rather, they seek what agrees with their desires, but if You judge between them, so Judge between them with justice even if they deviated from the path of justice and departed from Allah's ruling, indeed, Allah loves those who act justly and judge between the people by the judgment of Allah which He has sent down in His Book. And as narrated by Abdullah Ibn Abbas: "Qurayza and Nadir (Two Jewish tribes), Nadir were nobler than Qurayza, when a man of Qurayza killed a man from Nadir, he would be killed, but if a man of Nadir killed a man of Qurayza, a hundred Wasaq of dates would be paid as blood-money, when prophethood was bestowed upon the Prophet (PBUH), a man of Nadir killed a man of Qurayza, they said Give him to us, we shall kill him, they replied we have the Prophet between you and us, so they came to Him, thereupon, the following verse was revealed "And if You judge, so Judge between them with justice", and justice means life for life, then the following verse was revealed ''Then Is it the judgment of Jahiliyyah that they seek? (The Pre-Islamic era'' (Sunan Abu Dawood 4494). Then Allah says as a denunciation How do they make You judge regarding the married adulterers, and the retaliation for murder while they have with them the Torah in which is the Judgment of Allah?, then they turn away from the judgment of Allah to other than what Allah has stipulated for them, then Allah assures that they are not believers in what Allah has sent down upon His Messenger Moses nor in what Allah has sent down upon His Messenger Muhammad, rather, they altered the judgment of Allah and departed from His ruling to something else that agreed with their desires.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (44) "Indeed, We sent down the Torah in which there was guidance and light, the Prophets who had submitted judged by it for those who are Jews, and the Rabbis, and the scholars by that which they were entrusted of the Book of Allah, and they were witnesses to it, so Do not fear the people, but Fear Me, and Do not exchange My verses for a small price, and whoever does not judge by what Allah has sent down, then they are the disbelievers'', that is, Allah has sent down the Torah upon His Messenger Moses, peace be upon Him, in which there was a guidance and light to the straight path, and every Prophet who has submitted to Allah from the time of Moses until the time of Jesus judged by the Torah, so they do not deviate from its rulings, nor alter it, nor distort it, and the Rabbis, and the scholars judge by that which they were entrusted with the protection of the Book of Allah, so they judge by the Torah and its rulings which they were commanded to reveal and act upon, and they were witnesses to the Torah and Allah's rulings regarding the stoning of married adulterers, and the retaliation for murder, then Allah addresses the Rabbis and the scholars saying so Do not fear the people, but Fear Me, and Do not exchange My verses for a small price, so Do not fear the people in carrying out My judgment that I have imposed upon My servants for they will not cause harm to you or benefit you except by My permission, and Do not conceal My judgment regarding stoning the married adulterers and retaliation for murder, but Fear Me and Fear My punishment for concealing what you have been entrusted of the Torah, and Do not exchange My rulings for a small price that you take from the people, and whoever does not judge by what Allah has sent down in the Torah, conceals and neglects it intentionally, and judges by other than it for a small price, then they are the disbelievers in Allah, His Messengers, and His Books.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (45) "And We decreed for them therein that the soul for the soul, and the eye for the eye, and the nose for the nose, and the ear for the ear, and the tooth for the tooth, and retaliation for wounds, but whoever gives charity with it, then it is an expiation for him, and whoever does not judge by what Allah has sent down, then they are the wrongdoers", that is, the Jews made Allah's Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) judge between them regarding retaliation for murder while they have with them the Torah in which is the Judgment of Allah as shown above in Ayat (42,43), thereupon, Allah assures that He has imposed upon them in the Torah that they should judge the life for the life if it was killed without right, so the killing soul be killed for the killed soul, the eye for the eye, so they should gouge out the eye whose owner gouged out the eye of another person, the nose for the nose, so they should cut off the nose whose owner cut off the nose of another person, the ear for the ear, so they should cut off the ear whose owner cut off the ear of another person, the tooth for the tooth, so they should pull out the tooth whose owner pulled out the tooth of another person, and retaliation (Qisas) for wounds, so whoever injuries another person will be injured just like the wound he inflicted on the other.
Therefore, Allah's Messenger took retaliation from the Jew who killed a girl in Medina, where as narrated by Anas: "A girl went out in Medina wearing some silver ornaments, a Jew grabbed her and fractured her head with a stone, and he took the jewelry she had on, he said she was found with some spark of life in her, and was brought to the Prophet (PBUH) and He said Did so-and-so strike you?, she nodded no with her head, He said so-and-so? until he named the Jew and she nodded yes with her head, He said he was brought and recognized, so the Messenger of Allah ordered that his head be crushed between two stones" (Jami' Altirmidhi 1394), and Allah's Messenger judged for retaliation for the tooth that was broken as narrated by Anas bin Malik: "Alrubai, the paternal aunt of Anas bin Malik, broke the incisor tooth of young Ansari girl, her family demanded the retaliation and they came to the Prophet (PBUH) who passed the judgment of retaliation (Qisas), Anas bin Alnadir, the paternal uncle of Anas bin Malik, said O Allah's Messenger! By Allah her tooth will not be broken O Allah's Messenger, Allah's Messenger said O Anas! Allah's Book is Qisas, but the people gave up their claim and accepted a compensation, on that Allah's Messenger said some of Allah's servants are such that if they take an oath, Allah will fulfill it for them" (Sahih Albukhari 4611). Then Allah assures that whoever gives charity with it, then it is an expiation for him, so the one whose eye is gouged out, or his nose or ear is cut off, or an injury is done to his body, then he pardons that, then it is an expiation for him and Allah will forgive him, then Allah assures that whoever does not judge by what Allah has sent down in the Torah regarding retaliation for unjustly killed soul, the eye, the nose, the ear, the tooth, and wounds, then they are the wrongdoers who wronged themselves by deviating from Allah rulings to other than what He has stipulated, and distorting the words of Allah beyond their places.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (46,47) "And We have sent on their footsteps Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming what was before Him in the Torah, and We gave Him the Gospel in which was guidance and light and confirming what was before it of the Torah and a guidance and an admonition for the righteous, and Let the people of the Gospel judge by what Allah has sent down in it, and whoever does not judge by what Allah has sent down, then they are the disobedient", that is, Allah has sent the Prophet Jesus, the son of Mary on the footsteps of the Prophets who had submitted and judged by the Torah as shown above in Aya (44), confirming what was before Him in the Torah, so He believed in it, and judged according to what was in it, and Allah gave Him the Gospel in which was guidance to the path of truth and light that removes doubts and ignorance, and the Gospel confirms what was before it of the Torah, not contradicting with it, rather Allah made lawful for them in the Gospel some of what was forbidden to them in the Torah as mentioned in Aya (50) of Surat Aliemran, and the Gospel was a guidance and an admonition for the righteous of Allah's punishment and vengeance on those who disobey Him, so they will be admonished by it, obey Allah's commands, and avoid His prohibitions. Then Allah commanded the people of the Gospel to judge by what Allah has sent down therein, so they have to believe in everything in it, and adhere to what they were commanded to do including belief in the Prophet Muhammad whom they find written with them in the Torah and the Gospel as mentioned in Aya (157) of Surat Ala'raf, therefore, Allah commanded His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) to say to the people of the Scripture ''You are on nothing until you uphold the Torah and the Gospel and what has been sent down to you from your Lord" as will come later in Aya (68), and Allah assures that whoever does not judge by what Allah has sent down, then they are the disobedient who disobey Allah's commands, incline to falsehood, and abandon the truth.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (48) ''And We have sent down to You the Book in truth, confirming what was before it of the Book and as a guardian over it, so Judge between them by what Allah has sent down, and Do not follow their desires away from what has come to You of the truth, for each of You We made a law and a method, and if Allah had willed, He would have made you one nation, but to test you in what He has given you, so Race to the good, to Allah is your return all together, then He will inform you of what you used to differ in it'', that is, Allah addresses His Messenger Muhammad saying that He has sent down to Him the Holy Quran in truth about which there is no doubt, confirming what was before it of the previous Scriptures like the Torah and the Gospel, and it is a guardian over these Scriptures, so the Holy Quran is a witness over these Scriptures, whether they are true or distorted as whatever of these Scriptures agrees with the Holy Quran is the truth, and whatever contradicts it is falsehood, so Allah has sent down the Holy Quran as the last Book, and the most comprehensive and greatest Book, and it contains the virtue of what came before it, and perfections that are not found in any other Book. Therefore, Allah commanded His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) to judge between those who seek His judgment whether from among the people of the Scripture, the Jews and the Christians, or any other people according to the Holy Quran and Allah's rulings that Allah has revealed to Him, and Allah commanded Him not to follow the desires of the Jews who changed Allah's rulings regarding the married adulterers, and retaliation for murder, so Do not abandon Allah's rulings that He has revealed to You in accordance with their desires, and Do not turn away from the truth that has come to You from Allah, then Allah assures that He has made a law and a method for every nation, as the Torah has a law and a method, the Gospel has a law and a method, and the Holy Quran has a law and a method in which Allah made lawful what He wills and forbade what He wills, but the religion is one religion that does not accept other than monotheism, sincerity of worship to Allah, and believing in Allah's Messengers and Books. And if Allah had willed, He would have made you one nation, so He would brought all people together to one religion and one law and none of which would be abrogated, but Allah has legislated a law for every Messenger, then He abrogated some or all of it with the Message of the next Messenger till He abrogated all of them with the Holy Quran, and Allah has legislated different laws in order to test His servants in what He has legislated for them and distinguish the obedient from the disobedient, therefore, Allah commanded His servants to hasten to do good deeds by obeying Allah and drawing near to Him, following His law which abrogated all laws that came before it, and believing in the Holy Quran, and all mankind will return to Allah on the day of resurrection, then He will inform them of what they used to differ therein of belief and deeds in the worldly life.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (49,50) "And Judge between them by what Allah has sent down, and Do not follow their desires, and Beware of them lest they tempt You away from some of what Allah has sent down to You, and if they turn away, then Know that Allah only intends to afflict them for some of their sins, and indeed, most of the people are disobedient, then Is it the judgment of Jahiliyyah that they seek?, but Who is better than Allah in judgment for a people who are certain", that is, Allah commanded His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) for the second time to judge between those who seek His judgment whether from among the people of the Scripture, the Jews and the Christians, or any other people according to the Holy Quran and Allah's rulings that Allah has revealed to Him, and Allah commanded Him not to follow the desires of the Jews who changed Allah's rulings regarding the married adulterers, and retaliation for murder, and commanded Him to beware of them lest they tempt Him and turn Him away from Allah's rulings that He has revealed to Him in the Holy Quran, and force Him to abandon act upon them and to follow their desires, then Allah addresses His Messenger saying if they turned away from You and abandoned what You has judged between them, then Know that they did not turn away from You when You judged the truth except that Allah intends to punish them in the worldly life for their sins that led them to misguidance, and most of the people are disobedient to Allah as they depart from obedience to Allah by disobeying Him, and abandoning act according to His Book. Then Allah says as a denunciation Do the Jews who came to You in order to judge between them seek the judgment of Pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah), so they seek the judgment of the polytheists while they have the Book of Allah in which there is Allah's Judgment that You have judged between them, as in Pre-Islamic era, the polytheists of Quraish used to consider the rule of the noble to be different from the rule of the poor, and the Jews imposed the legal punishment upon the poor and the weak, and did not impose it upon the noble and the rich as shown above in Aya (42), so they became like the people of Jahiliyyah in this act, and they sought other than the Judgment of Allah while there is none more just than Allah in His judgment for a people who are certain of Allah's law and believe that Allah is the Best of Judges. And Allah's Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) said in narration of Ibn Abbas: "The most hated persons to Allah are three, a person who deviates from the right conduct in the Sacred House (Alharam), a person who seeks that the tradition of Jahiliyyah (Pre-Islamic era) should remain in Islam, and a person who seeks to shed somebody's blood without any right" (Albukhari 6882).
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (51,52) "O you who have believed! Do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies, some of them are allies to others, and whoever takes them as allies among you, then indeed, he is of them, indeed, Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people, so You see those in whose hearts is disease hastening to them saying we fear that a misfortune may strike us, but perhaps Allah will bring conquest or a command from Him, and they will become regretful over what they have concealed within themselves", that is, Allah forbade the believers from taking the Jews and the Christians as allies against the Muslims, and Allah assures that some of the Jews are allies of others against the believers, and some of the Christians are allies of others against the believers, and they all are one hand against those who oppose their religion, then Allah has declared that whoever takes them as allies instead of Allah, His Messenger, and the believers and supported them against the Muslims, then he is of them and he is one of their companions; Because he has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger as they did, and Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people who took the Jews and the Christians as allies despite their enmity against Allah, His Messenger, and the believers. Then Allah addresses His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) saying that the hypocrites, those in whose hearts is doubt about the religion of Allah hasten to be their allies inwardly and outwardly saying to them we fear that a calamity may strike us, so they fear that the Muslims will be defeated whether by the polytheists, the Jews, or the Christians, and then they took them as allies in order to protect them and help them, then Allah assures them that He will help His Messenger and the believers, and will give them victory over their enemies, or bring a command that separates the people of belief from the people of disbelief, exalts Allah's words, and weakens the plot of the hypocrites, and then they will be remorseful over what they have concealed within their themselves of their loyalty and affection to the Jews and the Christians, and their hatred and hostility to the believers.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (53,54) "And those who believe will say Are these the ones who swore by Allah the strongest of their oaths that indeed, they were with you?, their deeds were nullified, and they have become losers, O you who have believed! Whoever of you reverts from his religion, Allah will bring a people whom He loves and they love Him, humble towards the believers, powerful against the disbelievers, they strive in the way of Allah and do not fear the blame of a blamer, that is the bounty of Allah, He gives it to whomever He wills, and Allah is All-Encompassing, All-Knower", that is, when Allah will bring His victory or decide a matter by which He will help the believers against their enemies, the hypocrites will regret over their loyalty to Allah's enemies as mentioned in the previous verse, so the believers will marvel at their hypocrisy and lies against Allah in their false oaths saying Are these the ones who swore by Allah the strongest of their oaths that indeed, they were with you while they are liars?, thereupon, Allah assures that their deeds were nullified and have become worthless due to their hypocrisy, and they will became losers in the worldly life and the Hereafter as their deal with Allah's enemies will fail when Allah will support the believers, and a painful punishment awaits them in the Hereafter.
Then Allah addresses the believers saying that whoever of them reverts from his religion, so he turns away from Islam and changed it by entering into disbelief, Judaism, or Christianity, he will not harm Allah in anything, rather Allah will bring a people whom He loves and they love Him, so they will be better than those who apostatized and changed their religion as Allah has stated in Aya (38) of Surat Muhammad "And If you turn away, He will replace you with a people other than you, then they will not be the likes of you", and they will be humble towards the believers, so they will be merciful, gentle, and compassionate towards them, powerful against the disbelievers, so they will be strong, harsh, hostile to them, and these are the characteristics of Allah's Messenger and those who believed with Him as Allah has stated in Aya (29) of Surat Alfath "Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, and those who are with Him are hard against the disbelievers, and merciful among themselves", and they will strive in the way of Allah and will not fear the blame of a critic, so nothing will stop them from obeying Allah, fighting His enemies, enjoining the good, and forbidding the wrong, and they will continue on their way, not prevented by any reproach of a critic and they do not fear anyone except Allah, and that is the bounty of Allah, He bestows it upon whom He wills, and Allah is All-Encompassing in His bounty, Generous with His gifts, All-Knower of His creation as nothing of their affair is hidden from Him.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (55,56) "Your Ally is only Allah and His Messenger, and those who have believed, those who establish the prayer and give the Zakah while they are reassured, and whoever is an ally of Allah and His Messenger and those who have believed, then indeed, the party of Allah will be the victors", that is, Allah addresses the believers saying that their Ally is only Allah, His Messenger, and the believers who establish the prayers in its prescribed times, give the Zakah, whether obligatory charity or alms, while they are reassured of Allah and pleased with Him, so they believe that Allah and His Messenger are their supporters, and the believers are a source of strength for them, but the Jews and the Christians whom Allah has commanded them to disavow and forbade them from taking them as allies are not their guardians or helpers, rather, some of them are allies to others not to the believers as shown above in Aya (51). Then Allah assures that whoever is an ally of Allah and His Messenger and those who have believed, so He is satisfied with the guardianship of Allah and entrusts his affair to Him, obeys the command of His Messenger and supports the believers, then indeed, he will be among the party of Allah, and the party of Allah will be the victors and the successful in the worldly life and the Hereafter as the believers disavow those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they were their fathers, their sons, their brothers, or their clan as Allah has stated in Aya (22) of Surat Almujadilah.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (57,58) "O you who have believed! Do not take those who have taken your religion in ridicule and play from those who were given the Book before you and the disbelievers as allies, and Fear Allah if you are believers, and when you call to the prayer, they take it in ridicule and play, that is because they are a people who do not understand", that is, when Allah assured the believers that their Ally is only Allah and His Messenger, and those who have believed as shown above in Aya (55), He forbade them from taking those who have taken their religion in ridicule and play from those who were given the Book from among the Jews and the Christians, and from taking the disbelievers and the polytheists as allies, so Allah forbade the believers from being friendly with them, clinging to their party, and relying on them, and commanded them to fear Him and fear His punishment if they take those who mocked their religion as allies if they are believers in Allah and His law that He has legislated for them, therefore, Allah's Messenger refused to seek the help of the polytheists in warring against each other, where as narrated by Aisha, the wife of Allah's Messenger (PBUH): "The Messenger of Allah set out for Badr, when He reached Harratuo Alwabara (A place four miles from Medina), a man met Him who was known for his valor and courage, the companions of the Messenger of Allah were pleased to see him, he said I have come so that I may follow You and get a share from the booty, the Messenger of Allah said to him Do you believe in Allah and His Messenger?, he said no, the Messenger of Allah said Go back, I will not seek help from a polytheist, he went on until we reached the Shajarah, where the man met Him again, he asked Him the same question again and the man gave him the same answer, He said Go back, I will not seek help from a polytheist, the man returned and overtook Him at Baida', He asked him as He had asked previously Do you believe in Allah and His Messenger, he said yes, the Messenger of Allah said to him then Come along with us" (Sahih Muslim 1817). Then Allah assures that the Jews, the Christians, and the polytheists who take the religion of Allah in ridicule and play used to mock at the call of prayer (Azan) and take it in ridicule and play when they hear it, and they mock and play from the call of prayer because they do not understand, and they do that out of their ignorance of their Lord, and of the punishment that awaits them, so if they understand, they would not have mocked the rituals of Allah.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (59,60) "Say O people of the Book! Do you resent us except that we have believed in Allah and what was sent down to us, and what was sent down before, and that most of you are disobedient, Say Shall I inform you of worse than that as recompense from Allah?, those whom Allah has cursed and He became angry with him and made of them apes and pigs and slave of Taghut, those are worst in position and most astray from the straight path", that is, Allah commanded His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) to say to those who take the religion of Allah in ridicule and play from among the Jews, the Christians, and the disbelievers Do you resent us or find anything against us when you mock Our religion except that we have believed in Allah and acknowledged His Oneness, believed in what Allah has sent down to us in the Holy Quran, and believed in the Books that Allah has sent down to the Prophets before us, and most of you are disobedient to Allah, so you disobey His commands and invent a lie against Him. Then Allah commanded His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) to say to those who resent them because of their belief in Allah and singling Him out for worship to the exclusion of anything other than Him, and their belief in the Holy Quran and the Scriptures before it Shall I inform you of worse as recompense from Allah on the day of resurrection than what you think of us?, the worse in recompense are those whom Allah has cursed and kept them away from His mercy in the worldly life and the Hereafter, and Allah became angry with them, and made of them apes and pigs as Allah turned the Jews who transgressed His command on the Sabbath into humiliated apes as mentioned in Ayat (163-166) of Surat Ala'raf, and as narrated by Ibn Mas'ud: "A man said Allah's Messenger! What about those apes and swine which suffered metamorphosis?, thereupon, Allah's Messenger said indeed, Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, did not destroy a people or did not torment a people and let their race grow, apes and swine had been in existence even before that" (Sahih Muslim 2663 d). And Allah made of them the slave of Taghut, which is every god other than Allah such as the idols, false gods, and accursed Satan, then Allah assures that those who are characterized by these qualities are worse in status in the worldly life and the Hereafter, and most astray from the straight path as they had erred and turned away from the path of guidance to the path of error.
Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (61-63) "And when they come to you, they say we believe, but they have certainly entered with disbelief and they have certainly went out with it, and Allah knows best of what they used to conceal, and You see many of them hastening into the sin and the aggression and eating the unlawful, and wretched is what they used to do, Why do the Rabbis, and the scholars not forbid them from saying the sinful and eating the unlawful?, and wretched is what they used to do", that is, Allah assures the believers that when the hypocrites from among the people of the Scripture, specifically the Jews, come to them, they say to them we have believed in what Your Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) brought from His Lord and followed Him, but they have entered with disbelief and have certainly went out wit disbelief which they conceal in their hearts, and they falsely appear to believe you with their tongues, so they went out with disbelief just as they entered with it thinking that their action is hidden from Allah out of their ignorance of Allah, thereupon, Allah assures that He knows best of what they used to conceal and what they declare as a faction of the people of the Scripture said to each other Believe in that which was revealed to those who have believed at the beginning of the day and disbelieve in it at its end, so that they will abandon their religion as Allah has stated in Aya (72) of Surat Aliemran. Then Allah addresses His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) saying You see many of them hastening into the sin and the transgression, so they hasten to commit any act of disobedience to Allah, and exceed the limits that Allah has set for them regarding what is permissible for them and what is forbidden, and they hasten to eat the unlawful as they changed the judgement of Allah and concealed what Allah has sent down of the Book and exchange it for a small price as shown above in Aya (42), thereupon, Allah says as a threat wretched is what they used to do. Then Allah says as denunciation Why do the Rabbis, and the scholars not forbid them from saying the sinful and eating the unlawful?, so why do their Rabbis and scholars not forbid them from inventing a lie against Allah, judging by other than what Allah has legislated for them, and changing the words of Allah for a small price, so wretched is the deed that these Rabbis and scholars were doing when they did not forbid those who hasten into the sin and the transgression and eating the unlawful, so they did not enjoin the good or forbid the evil.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (64) "And the Jews say the Hand of Allah is chained, chained are their hands, and cursed are they for what they have said, rather both of His Hands are extended, He spends how He wills, and what has been sent down to You from Your Lord will surely increase many of them in transgression and disbelief, and We have cast between them enmity and hatred until the day of resurrection, every time they kindled the fire of war, Allah extinguished it, and they strive to spread corruption on the earth, and Allah does not like the corrupters", that is, Allah tells about the audacity of the Jews against their Lord when they described Him in a way that is not a characteristic of Him as they said the Hand of Allah is chained that does not extend to give anything, so Allah is stingy with us, and He withholds His bounty from us, thereupon, Allah responded to what they have said and confronted them with what they have fabricated, and assured that miserliness is one of their characteristic, and Allah assures that if they have a share in the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, they would not give the people even as much as the speck on a date seed as He has stated in Aya (53) of Surat Alnisa', so chained are their hands and cursed are they, so Allah kept them away from His mercy in the worldly life and the Hereafter for what they have said and accused Allah of stinginess, rather, both of His Hands are extended, He spends how He wills, so He is Most bountiful and the Most Generous in giving, and He has the treasures of everything, and as narrated by Abu Hurayrah: "The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said the Hand of the Most Gracious is full, He spends without any decrease night and day, He said Do you not see how much He has spent since He created the heavens and the earth, yet it has not decreased what is in His Hand, and His Throne is over the water, and in His other Hand is the scale by which He raises and lowers" (Jami' Altirmidhi 3045). Then Allah addresses His Messenger Muhammad saying that what Allah has revealed to Him of the Holy Quran increases many of the Jews and their likes in transgression, exceeding the limits of Allah, and disbelief, so when the believers increase in belief, good deeds, and useful knowledge through the Holy Quran, the disbelievers increase in envy and hatred through it, thereupon, Allah has cast between them enmity and hatred until the day of resurrection, so their hearts will not come together, rather enmity and hatred will exist between their factions towards each other because they do not agree on what is right, and whenever they kindled the fire of war and plotted against the Muslims, Allah extinguishes their fire and nullifies their plot, and they strive to spread corruption on the earth by preventing the people from the way of Allah, and Allah does not like the corrupters.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (65,66) "And if only the people of the Book had believed and feared, We would have surely expiated from them their evil deeds and We would have surely admitted them into the gardens of bliss, and if only they upheld the Torah and the Gospel and what has been sent down to them from their Lord, they would have surely eaten from above them and from under their feet, among them is a moderate community, but many of them evil is what they do", that is, Allah assures that if only the people of the Scripture from among the Jews and the Christians have believed in Allah, His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH), and the Holy Quran, and feared Allah and feared His punishment, so they act according to His commands and prohibitions and follow His Messenger, Allah will surely expiate from them their evil deeds and will not hold them accountable for them, then He will surely admit them into the gardens of bliss on the day of resurrection, abiding therein forever. Then Allah assures that if the Jews and the Christians had upheld the Torah and the Gospel without distortion, change, or alternation, that would led them to follow the truth and act in accordance to what Allah has sent down to His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) in the Holy Quran; Because their Books came with confirmation of Him and the command to follow Him. So if they had upheld the Torah, the Gospel, and what has been sent down to them from their Lord in the Holy Quran, they would have surely eaten from above them and from under their feet, so they will be in abundance of provision descending upon them from the sky through the rain by which Allah will bring forth grains, vegetables, and fruits from the earth beneath their feet, then Allah assures that there is a moderate community from among the Jews and the Christians, so they adhere to Allah's Book and command without exaggeration or distortion, and judge by justice and according to what Allah has sent down to them, but most of them are disobedient when they hastened into the sin and the transgression and eating the unlawful by changing the judgement of Allah and concealing what Allah has sent down of the Book as shown above in Aya (62), so evil is what they do.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (67) "O Messenger! Convey what has been sent down to you from Your Lord, and if You do not, then You have not conveyed His message, and Allah will protect You from the people, indeed, Allah does not guide the disbelieving people", that is, Allah commanded His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) to convey what has been sent down to Him from Allah, and Allah informed Him that if He fell short in conveying anything of what Allah has sent Him with, then He did not convey anything of Allah's message, and Aisha said to Masruq that whoever tells you that Allah's Messenger had concealed anything of the revelation, then He is a liar, then She recited "O Messenger! Convey what has been sent down to you from Your Lord" (Sahih Albukhari 4855). And the companions of Allah's Messenger bore witness that He has conveyed what Allah has revealed to Him, and fulfilled the trust to the fullest, where as narrated by Ja'far bin Muhammad on the authority of his father that Allah's Messenger said to His companions in His sermon of the day of Hajjat Alwada' (The farewell pilgrimage): "And you would be asked about Me (On the day of resurrection) What would you say?, they said we will bear witness that You have conveyed, fulfilled, and given wise counsel, he said the Prophet then raised His forefinger towards the sky and pointing it at the people saying O Allah! Be witness, O Allah! Be witness, saying it thrice" (Sahih Muslim 1218). Then Allah reassured His Messenger Muhammad saying that He will protect Him from the people, so He has to convey Allah's message, not fearing anyone except Allah, and Allah is Sufficient for Him as He will support Him, and defend Him of the harm of anyone, and the companions of Allah's Messenger (PBUH) used to guard Him before the revelation of this verse, where as narrated by Aisha: "Allah's Messenger (PBUH) lay on during one night and said Would a righteous man from amongst My companions guarded Me tonight?, she said we heard the clatter of arms, whereupon, Allah's Messenger said Who is it?, and Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas said Allah's Messenger I have come to guard You, Aisha said Allah's Messenger then slept so soundly that we heard Him snoring" (Sahih Muslim 2410 a). And Allah does not guide the disbelievers who had strayed from the path of truth, denied what Allah's Messenger had brought for them from His Lord, and did not adhere to Allah's commands and prohibitions.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (68,69) "Say O people of the Book! You are on nothing until you uphold the Torah and the Gospel and what has been sent down to you from your Lord, and what has been sent down to You from Your Lord will surely increase many of them in transgression and disbelief, so Do not grieve over the disbelieving people, indeed, those who have believed and those who are Jews and the Sabians, and the Christians, those who believe in Allah and the Last Day and do righteous deeds, then there will be no fear for them, nor will they grieve", that is, Allah commanded His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) to announce the Jews and the Christians, the people of the Torah and the people of the Gospel, that they are on nothing of the religion that they claim to be upon, whether what Moses, peace be upon Him, brought to the Jews from His Lord or what Jesus, peace be upon Him, brought to the Christians from His Lord, until they uphold the Torah and the Gospel without distortion, change, or alternation, and uphold the Holy Quran that has been sent down to them from Allah, so they believe and act upon all of that, believe that all of that is from Allah, and believe in Allah's Messengers and do not believe in some and disbelieve in others. Then Allah addresses His Messenger Muhammad saying that what Allah has revealed to Him of the Holy Quran increases many of the Jews and the Christians in transgression, exceeding the limits of Allah, and disbelief, so when the believers increase in belief, good deeds, and useful knowledge through the Holy Quran, the disbelievers increase in envy and hatred through it, thereupon, Allah commanded His Messenger not to grieve over the disbelievers who deny Him and deny the Holy Quran. Then Allah assures that whoever believes in Allah and believes that Allah will resurrect him from the graves on the day of resurrection, and does righteous deeds from among the Muslims, the Jews, the Sabians who worship other than Allah, and the Christians, so they acknowledge Allah's oneness, believe in His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH), and believe in the Holy Quran, then there will be no fear for them for what they will face later and they will not grieve for what they missed before.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (70,71) "Indeed, We have taken the covenant of the Children of Israel and We have sent to them Messengers, whenever there came to them a Messenger with what their souls did not desire, a party they denied, and a party they killed, and they thought there will not be trial, so they became blind and deaf, then Allah turned to them, then many of them became blind and deaf, and Allah is All-Seeing of what they do", that is, Allah has taken the covenant of the Children of Israel to be sincere in the worship of Allah alone, to follow His Messengers, and to do what Allah commanded them to do, and to avoid what He forbade them from, and Allah has sent to them His Messengers and promised them through the tongues of His Messengers with a great reward for those who act in obedience to Him, and a severe punishment for those who act in disobedience to Him, but they broke their covenant and followed their desires and put them ahead of Allah's laws, so whatever of the laws of Allah agreed with their desires, they accept it, and whatever contradicts their desires, they reject it, so whenever there came to them a Messenger from Allah with what their souls did not desire, and what did not agree with them, they deny a group of them and kill a group of them in violation of the covenant that Allah has taken from them. And they thought that there will not be a trial or a test from Allah for them with hardships or punishment for what they were doing, but Allah has let them go astray, so they became blind and deaf to the truth, thereupon, they would not hear the truth nor be guided to it, then Allah has turned in mercy and forgiveness to them and guided them to His way, but then many of them became blind and deaf after the path of truth became clear to them, and Allah is All-Seeing of what they do, whether they act openly or secretly, and whether obedience they do or disobedience.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (72) "Indeed, they have disbelieved those who say indeed, Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary, while the Messiah has said O Children of Israel Worship Allah, My Lord and your Lord, indeed, whoever associates with Allah, then indeed, Allah has forbidden Paradise for him, and his abode will be the Fire, and the wrongdoers will have no helpers'', that is, Allah assures for the second time the disbelief of the Christians who invents a lie against Allah and claimed that the Christ, the son of Mary is Allah, while He is Allah's servant and Messenger, and it was the first word he spoke when He was a child in the cradle as shown above in Aya (17), so Allah has sent the Christ as a Prophet and Messenger to the Children of Israel commanding them to worship Allah alone, and He assured them that He is a human being not a god when He said Worship Allah, My Lord and your Lord, and that whoever associates false gods and idols with Allah, then Allah has forbidden Paradise for him, and Allah's Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) said in narration of Abdullah bin Mas'ud: "None will enter Paradise but a Muslim soul" (Sahih Albukhari 6528). So the abode of whoever associates partners with Allah will be Hellfire on the day of resurrection, and the wrongdoers who wronged themselves with disbelief and inventing a lie against Allah will not find any helper in order to save them from Allah's punishment.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (73,74) "Indeed, they have disbelieved those who say indeed, Allah is the third of three, and there is no god but One God, and if they do not desist from what they say, there will surely touch those who disbelieved among them a painful punishment, so Will they not repent to Allah and seek His forgiveness?, and Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful", that is, Allah also confirms the disbelief of those who claimed that the Messiah and His mother are two gods besides Allah as will come later in Aya (116) "And when Allah will say O Jesus, son of Mary! Did you say to the people Take Me and My mother as two gods besides Allah?", thereupon, Allah denies what the Christians said, confirming that there is no god but one God, so you have no god but Allah, the God and the Creator of everything, He does not beget nor is born, so those who invoke another god with Allah are disbelievers, whether those who said that Allah is the Messiah, those who said that the Messiah and His mother are two gods besides Allah, or those who believe in the trinity by claiming that Allah is represented by the father, the son, and the holy spirit, thereupon, Allah threatens them all saying if they do not desist from saying that Allah is the third of three and from saying that Allah is the Messiah, then a painful torment will befall those who disbelieved in Hellfire on the day of resurrection. Then Allah tells about His generosity, kindness, and mercy towards His servants calling them to repent and ask His forgiveness despite their lying and slander saying So Will they not repent to Allah and seek His forgiveness?, and Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful for those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (75,76) "The Messiah, the son of Mary, is nothing but a Messenger, indeed, the Messengers had passed before Him, and His mother was a truthful, they both used to eat food, Look how We make clear the signs to them, then Look How are they being turned away?, Say Do you worship besides Allah that which does not possess for you any harm or benefit while Allah is the All-Hearing, the All-Knower?", that is, Allah assures that the Christ and His mother, Mary, were human beings saying that the Christ was not but a Messenger, and the Messengers has passed before Him, so He was like the Messengers who were before Him, and Allah has supported Him with the signs that indicate His truthfulness just as He supported the Messengers before Him, and His mother Maryam was a truthful one, and they both used to eat food, and they need to be nourished by it like all human beings, so they are not two gods as they claimed, then Allah addresses His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) saying Look how We make clear to them the signs that refute their claims and slander against Allah, and Look How are they being turned away and diverted from guidance to error?, and Allah commanded His Messenger to say to them as a denunciation Do you worship besides Allah that which does not possess for you any harm or benefit?, while Allah is the All-Hearing, the All-Knower where nothing in the heavens nor on the earth is hidden from Him, so He knows what you declare and what you conceal, and He is the only One who is able to bring harm or benefit to you.
Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (77-79) "Say O people of the Book! Do not exceed limits in your religion other than the truth and Do not follow the desires of a people who had certainly gone astray before and had led astray many and they had strayed from the straight way, cursed were those who disbelieved from among the Children of Israel by the tongue of David and of Jesus, the son of Mary, that was because they disobeyed and they were transgressing, they did not forbid one another from a wrong that they did, so wretched is what they used to do", that is, Allah addresses His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) and commands Him to say to the people of the Scripture from among the Christians Do not go to extremes in your religion by saying other than the truth, so Do not exceed the limits in your religion as you exaggerated in your statement about the Christ by saying that He is a god or the son of the god, but Say that He is Allah's servant and Messenger, so Do not take Him out of the realm of prophethood to the position of Divinity. And Do not follow the desires of the Jews who had certainly gone astray before you, had led astray many by preventing them from the way of Allah and from believing in the Christ, and they had erred and turned away from the path of guidance to the path of error. Then Allah assures that those who disbelieved from among the Jews who disbelieved, crossed the limits in their religion, and led astray many were cursed in the Psalms that Allah has sent down to His Prophet David, peace be upon Him, and in the Gospel that He has sent down to His Prophet Jesus, peace be upon Him, and Allah has cursed them and kept them away from His mercy in the worldly life and the Hereafter because they disobeyed Allah and violated His commands, they used to transgress Allah's limits, and they did not forbid one another from doing a wrong or an evil deed by which they disobeyed Allah and His Messengers, and their Rabbis and scholars did not forbid them from saying the sinful and eating the unlawful as shown above in Aya (63), thereupon, Allah says as a threat wretched is what they used to do, and as narrated by Abu Sa'id Alkhudri: "I heard Allah's Messenger (PBUH) as saying whoever amongst you sees a wrong should modify it with the help of his hand, and if he has not strength enough to do it, then he should do it with his tongue, and if he has not strength enough to do it, then he should abhor it from his heart, and that is the least of faith" (Sahih Muslim 49).
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (80,81) "You see many of them taking those who disbelieved as allies, so wretched is what their souls sent forth for them that Allah has become angry with them, and in the punishment they will abide forever, and if they had believed in Allah and the Prophet and in what has been sent down to Him, they would not have taken them as allies but many of them are disobedient", that is, Allah addresses His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) saying You see many of the Jews taking the disbelievers who worship false gods and idols besides Allah as allies, so they unite in hostility to You and to the believers, thereupon, Allah says wretched is what their souls sent forth for them that Allah has become angry with them, and they will enter Hellfire on the day of resurrection, abiding therein forever, and Allah assures that if they had believed in Allah and acknowledged His Oneness, believed in the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and believed in the Holy Quran, they would not have taken the disbelievers as allies to the exclusion of Allah's Messenger and the believers, but many of them are disobedient to Allah, so they disobey His commands and oppose His Messengers and the believers.
Allah Almighty says in the next verses (82) "You will surely find the most severe of the people in animosity towards those who believe are the Jews and those who associated, and You will surely find the nearest of them in love to those who believe those who say we are Christians, that is because among them there are priests and monks and because they are not arrogant", that is, Allah addresses His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) saying You will surely find the most intense of the people in animosity towards those who believed in Allah and followed You are the Jews and those who associated false gods and idols with Allah, as the Jews used to oppose Allah's Messengers, and whenever there came to them a Messenger with what their souls did not desire, they denied a party of Allah's Messengers and killed others as shown above in Aya (70), and the Jews determined to kill Allah's Messenger more than once, when the Jews of Banu Alnadir intended to kill Him by a rock, and when they prepared a poisoned sheep for the Messenger of Allah and His companions in order to kill them as shown above in Aya (11), likewise, the polytheists and the hypocrites did not spare any effort in harming Allah's Messenger and the believers. And Allah assures His Messenger that He will find the nearest of them in love to those who believe those who say we are Christians, so those who followed the Christ and the Gospel had love for the believers; Because Allah placed compassion and mercy in the hearts of those who followed the Christ as He has stated in Aya (27) of Surat Alhadid, because among them there are priests and monks, and because they are not arrogant to follow the truth when they know it, so they are possessors of knowledge, worship, and humility, and they are not like the Jews who reject the truth out of their stubbornness, denial, and belittling those who had knowledge.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (83,84) "And when they hear what has been sent down to the Messenger, You see their eyes overflowing with tears because of what they have recognized of the truth, they say Our Lord! We have believed, so Write us along with the witnesses, and What is for us that we do not believe in Allah and what has come to us of the truth?, and we aspire that our Lord will admit us with the righteous people", that is, when those who have love for the believers from among the Christians hear the Holy Quran which Allah has revealed to His Messenger (PBUH), their eyes overflowing with tears because of what they have recognized of the truth as they recognized that what is recited to them is the Book of Allah which He has sent down upon His Messenger Muhammad whom they find written with them in the Torah and the Gospel as mentioned in Aya (157) of Surat Ala'raf, and they say Our Lord! We have believed, so Write us along with the witnesses who bear witness of the truthfulness of Your Messenger and Your Book. And they say what preventing us from believing in Allah, acknowledging His Oneness, and believing in what has come to us from Allah in His Book and His revelation, and we hope that Allah will admit us with the righteous people who act in obedience to Him, so they deserve Paradise on the day of resurrection from Allah by obeying Him.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (85,86) "So Allah rewarded them for what they said with gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein, and that is the reward of the good doers, and those who disbelieved and denied Our signs, those are the companions of the Hell", that is, Allah will reward the Christians who believed in Him and in His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) when they said Our Lord! We have believed, so Write us along with the witnesses, with gardens beneath which rivers flow in Paradise on the day of resurrection, and they will abide therein forever for their faith and recognizing the truth when it came to them from their Lord, and that is the reward of the good doers who worship Allah as if they see Him, and if they can not see Him, then Allah sees them, so they act according to Allah's commands and prohibitions, but as for those who disbelieved in Allah, and in His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH), and denied Allah's signs including the Holy Quran that He has sent upon His Messenger (PBUH), they will be the companions of Hellfire, and they will have the severest and the worst punishment on the day of resurrection.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (87,88) "O you who have believed! Do not forbid the good things which Allah has made lawful for you and Do not transgress, indeed, Allah does not like the aggressors, and Eat of what Allah has provided for you, lawful and good, and Fear Allah the One in Him you are believers", that is, Allah commanded the believers not to forbid the good things which He has made lawful for them, so it is not permissible for any Muslim to prohibit for himself anything of what Allah has made lawful for His servants such as good food, clothing, and marriage lest He imitates the polytheists who forbid the adornment of Allah which He has brought forth for His servants and the good things of provision as mentioned in Aya (32) of Surat Ala'raf, or imitates the Christians who innovated a monasticism which Allah did not prescribe for them, but they did not observe it with right observance as mentioned in Aya (27) of Surat Alhadid, and as narrated by Ikrimah from Ibn Abbas: "A man came to the Prophet (PBUH) and said O Messenger of Allah! When I consume meat and I get around women, my desires get the best of me, so I made meat unlawful for myself, so Allah revealed O you who have believed! Do not forbid the good things which Allah has made lawful for you and Do not transgress, indeed, Allah does not like the aggressors, and Eat of what Allah has provided for you, lawful and good" (Jami'a Altirmidhi 3054). And as narrated by Abdullah bin Mas'ud: "We used to participate in the battles carried on by the Prophet (PBUH), and we had no women with us, so we said to the Prophet Shall we castrate ourselves?, but the Prophet forbade us to do that, and thenceforth He allowed us to marry a woman by giving her even a garment, and then He recited O you who have believed! Do not forbid the good things which Allah has made lawful for you" (Sahih Albukhari 4615). Then Allah commanded the believers not to transgress His limits that He has set for them, whether in what He has made lawful for them or in what He has forbidden to them, and Allah does not like the aggressors who violate His limits and disobey His commands. Then Allah commanded the believers who believe in Him to eat of what Allah has provided for them of lawful and good provision, and to Fear Allah and fear His punishment, so Obey His commands and Avoid His prohibitions.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (89) "Allah will not call you to account for what is meaningless in your oaths, but He will call you to account for what you intended of oaths, so its expiation is the feeding of ten needy ones from the average of that which you feed your families or clothing them or the freeing of a slave, but whoever does not find, then fasting for three days, that is the expiation for your oaths when you have sworn, but Guard your oaths, thus Allah makes clear to you His verses so that you may give thanks", that is, Allah will not hold you accountable for the oaths that your tongues preceded you with hastily and unintentionally, so they do not require an expiation, and as narrated by Aisha: "This verse Allah will not call you to account for what is meaningless in your oaths was revealed about man's statement no, By Allah, and yes, By Allah" (Sahih Albukhari 4613). But Allah will hold you accountable for the oaths that you determined and intended, so you imposed upon yourselves, and your hearts resolved upon, so its expiation is the feeding of ten needy ones from the average of that which you feed your families, and Allah's Messenger said in narration of Abu Hurayrah: "The needy is not the one who asks a morsel or two from the others, but the needy is the one who has nothing and is shamed to beg from people" (Sahih Albukhari 1476), and the food must be at an average of what you feed your family with, and it differs from one country to another and from one person to another according to his financial condition, and the feeding consists of two meals, lunch and dinner, for every needy one, and its amount is half of Sa' (Two Mudd) of food, and according to most jurists the half of Sa' is approximately one and half kilograms of grains or the equivalent of the average amount of food, whether the food of the people is dates, barely, wheat, rice, corn, or it is other than that such as meat, fish, or milk, so they should expiate their oaths from their sustenance whatever it is, and it is permissible for feeding to be more than one kind of food such as bread and meat, bread and ghee, bread and milk, bread and oil, or bread and vinegar, each according to his financial condition, and amongst the best food to feed your family is bread and meat.
The second way to expiate the oath is to clothe sixty needy ones, such as a garment for every needy one, or to free a neck, which is a slave, a male or a female, and Allah has made the expiation of oath easy for every person, so He started with the easiest thing as the feeding is easier than clothing, and clothing is easier than freeing a neck, but if the Muslim is not able to expiate his oath with one of these three ways, then he has to fast for three days, then Allah assures that these four ways are the expiation for your oaths if you have sworn, and Allah commanded the Muslims to guard their oaths and not to abandon it without expiation, and thus Allah makes clear to you His verses so that you may be grateful to Allah for the blessings that He has bestowed upon you as He will not hold you accountable for your thoughtless oaths, and He makes the expiation for the oaths you have bound yourself with, and makes it easy for you. So Allah's Messenger and His companions used to expiate their oath if they find something is better than their oath, where as narrated by Zahdam Aljamri that Allah's Messenger said: "By Allah! If Allah wills, if I take an oath and then later find another thing better than that, I do what is better, and make expiation for the oath" (Sahih Albukhari 6721), and as narrated by Aisha that her father (Abu Bakr) never broke his oath till Allah revealed the order of legal expiation for oath, Abu Bakr said if I ever take an oath and later find that to do something else is better, then I accept Allah's permission (to expiate my oath), and do that which is better" (Sahih Albukhari 4614).
There are oaths that do not require any expiation for them such as when the Muslim submits the will of Allah along with his oath; Because he entrusted the fulfillment of his oath to the will of Allah, so if Allah wills, he will fulfill his oath, and if Allah does not will, he will not fulfill his oath, where Allah's Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) said in narration of Abdullah bin Umar: "If anyone swears an oath and makes an exception (by saying if Allah wills: In shaa Allah ), he may fulfill it if he wishes and break it if he wishes without any accountability for breaking" (Sunan Abu Dawood 3262), and when the Muslim swears by anything or anyone other than Allah, then his oath does require any expiation, where as narrated by Mus'ab bin Sa'd that His father said: "We were talking about something, and I had only recently left Jahiliyyah behind, so I swore by Al-lat and Al-auzza (Two idols), the companions of Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said to me What a bad thing you have said! Go to the Messenger of Allah and tell Him, for we think that you have disbelieved, so I went to Him and told Him, and He said to me Say la ilaha ella Allah wahdahuo la shareeka lah: There is no God but Allah, without any partner, three times, and Seek refuge in Allah from Satan three times, and spit dryly to your left three times, and Do not say that again" (Sunan Alnasai 3776), and Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said in narration of Abu Hurayrah: " Do not swear by your fathers, nor by your mothers, nor by the idols, Swear only by Allah, and Do not swear unless you are truthful" (Sunan Alnasai 3769).
And there is an oath for which expiation is not permissible, which is swearing falsely by Allah in order to take people's property (Alyameen Alghamous), and it was called Alaghmous because it immerses its doer in the Fire for he has combined lying, appropriating people's property, and belittling the oath of Allah, where as narrated by Abdullah bin Amr: "A Bedouin came to the Prophet (PBUH) and said O Allah's Messenger! Which are the biggest sins?, Allah's Messenger said to join others in worship with Allah, the Bedouin said What is next?, Allah's Messenger said to be disobedient to your parents, the Bedouin said What is next?, Allah's Messenger said to take Alyameen Alghamuos, the Bedouin said What is Alyameen Alghamous?, He said the false oath through which one deprives a Muslim of his property" (Sahih Albukhari 6920).
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (90) "O you who have believed! Indeed, the intoxicants, the gambling, the stone altars, and the arrows are nothing but filth from the work of Satan, so Avoid it so that you may succeed", that is, Allah commanded the believers to abandon the customs of Pr-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah), so Allah has forbidden for them the intoxicants that numb the mind, whether they are wine or something else, and as narrated by Ibn Umar: "I heard Umar while he was on the pulpit of the Prophet (PBUH) saying Now then O people! The revelation about the prohibition of alcoholic drinks was revealed, and alcoholic drinks are extracted from five things: grapes, dates, honey, wheat, and barely, and the alcoholic drinks is that which confuses and stupefies the mind" (Sahih Albukhari 4619). Drinking alcohol was permissible at that time, but Allah prohibited the Muslims from approaching the prayer while they are intoxicated until they know what they are saying as mentioned in Aya (43) of Surat Alnisa', and this verse abrogated it, and Allah has completely forbidden alcohol drinks, where as narrated by Ibn Umar also: "The prohibition of alcoholic drinks was revealed when there was in Medina five kinds of alcoholic drinks none of which was produced from grapes" (Sahih Albukhari 4616), and as narrated by Jabir: "Some people drank alcoholic beverages in the morning of the day of the Battle of Uhud, and on the same day they were killed as martyrs, and that was before alcoholic drinks was prohibited" (Sahih Albukhari 4618).
As soon as the companions of Allah's Messenger (PBUH) heard Allah's prohibition of alcoholic drinks, they stopped drinking them, and spilled them in the streets of Medina, where as narrated by Anas bin Malik: "We had no alcoholic drink except that which was produced from dates, which you call Fadeekh, while I was standing offering drinks to Abu Talhah, so-and-so, and so-and so, a man came and said Has the news reached you?, they said What is that?, he said alcoholic drinks have been prohibited, they said Spill the contents of theses pots O Anas! Then they neither asked about it nor returned it after the news from the man" (Sahih Albukhari 4617). And Allah's Messenger forbade His companions from turning wine into vinegar, and from using it for medicine, where as narrated by Anas: "Allah's Messenger (PBUH) was asked about the use of wine from which vinegar is prepared, He said no" (Sahih Muslim 1983), and as narrated by Wa'il Alhadrami: "Tariq bin Suwaiyd Alju'fi asked Allah's Messenger about wine, He forbade and He expressed hatred that it should be prepared, Tariq said I prepare it as medicine, whereupon, Allah's Messenger said it is not medicine, but an ailment" (Sahih Muslim 1984).
Selling alcoholic drinks is forbidden just as its drinking is forbidden, where Abdul-Rahman bin Wa'ala Alsaba'i, who was an Egyptian, asked Abdullah bin Abbas about that which is extracted from the grapes, whereupon he said: "A person presented to Allah's Messenger (PBUH) a small water-skin of wine, Allah's Messenger said to him Do you know that Allah has forbidden it?, he said no, then he whispered to another man, Allah's Messenger asked him what he had whispered, he said I advised him to sell that, whereupon, Allah's Messenger said indeed, the One who has forbidden its drinking has forbidden its sale also, he (the narrator) said he opened the water-skin until what was contained in it was spilled" (Sahih Muslim 1579). And as narrated by Aisha: "When the concluding verses of Surat Albaqarah pertaining to usury (Riba) were revealed, Allah's Messenger (PBUH) went out and read them out to the people and He forbade them to trade in wine" (Sahih Muslim 1580 a). And Allah's Messenger said in narration of Abdullah bin Umar: "Allah has cursed wine, its drinker, its server, its seller, its buyer, its presser, the one for whom it is pressed, the one who carry it, and the one to whom it is carried" (Sunan Abu Dawood 3674).
Drinking alcoholic drinks will lead its drinker to Hellfire on the day of resurrection if he does not repent, where as narrated by Abdullah bin Abbas: "The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said every intoxicant is wine, and every intoxicant is forbidden, if anyone drinks wine, Allah will not accept prayer from him for forty days, but if he repents, Allah will accept his repentance, if he repeats it a fourth time, it is binding on Allah that He will give him Tinat Alkhabal to drink, He was asked What is Tinat Alkhabal, Messenger of Allah?, He replied discharge of wound flowing from the inhabitants of Hell, if anyone serves it to a minor who does not distinguish between lawful and unlawful, it is binding on Allah that He will give him to drink from Tinat Alkhabal" (Sunan Abu Dawood 2680). And Allah will forbid wine in the Hereafter to those who disobey His command and drink it in the worldly life as He has prepared four kinds of rivers in Paradise for the righteous, one of which is rivers of wine as mentioned in Aya (15) of Surat Muhammad, and as narrated by Ibn Umar that Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said: "Whoever drinks alcoholic drinks in the world and does not repent will be deprived of it in the Hereafter" (Sahih Albukhari 5575), and faith will be stripped from the drinker of alcoholic drinks while he is drinking them, where as narrated by Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (PBUH) said: "When an adulterer commits illegal sexual intercourse, then he is not a believer at that time he is doing it, and when a drinker of an alcoholic liquor drinks it, then he is not a believer at the time of drinking it, and when a thief steals, then he is not a believer at the time of stealing, and when a robber robs, and the people look at him, then he is not a believer at the time of doing robbery" (Sahih Albukhari 2475).
Allah has also prohibited the gambling, so every game whose purpose is gambling and consuming people's money unlawfully such as chess and backgammon is forbidden, and Allah's Messenger (PBUH) likened the one who gambles to the one who dipped his hand in the flesh and blood of a pig and ate them, so gambling is forbidden just as it is forbidden to eat a pig, where as narrated by Buraiyda on the authority of his father that Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said: "He who played Nardashir (A game similar to backgammon) is like the one who dyed his hand with the flesh and blood of swine" (Sahih Muslim 2260). Allah has forbidden sacrificing on the stones altars, and seeking decision through the arrows as shown above in Aya (3), then Allah assures that intoxicants, gambling, slaughtering on the stone altars, and seeking decision through the arrows are abomination and beautification of Satan for you, and they are not from the deeds to which Allah has enjoined upon you, nor from the deeds He is pleased with, so Avoid and Abandon them so that you may succeed and attain Allah's pleasure in the worldly life and the Hereafter.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (91,92) "Satan only intends to cause enmity and hatred between you through intoxicants and gambling and to prevent you from the remembrance of Allah and from the prayer, so Will you not desist?, and Obey Allah and Obey the Messenger, and Beware, and if you turned away, then Know that only upon Our Messenger is the clear conveyance'', that is, Allah assures the believers that Satan only wants them to drink intoxicants and to gamble and beautified them for the believers in order to create enmity and hatred between them, so they hate one another and be hostile to one another, and then their affair will be divided after Allah has united them in the faith and the word of truth, and Satan intends to prevent them from the remembrance of Allah and from the prayer that Allah has imposed upon them, so Satan distracts them from the remembrance of Allah and from the prayer through intoxicants by its dominance over their minds and through gambling by their preoccupation with it, so Allah addresses the believers saying Will you not desist?, so Will you disobey Satan in what he commands you, and performed what Allah has enjoined upon you of prayer in its prescribed time and remembering Him through which you will succeed in the worldly life and the Hereafter. Thereupon, Allah commanded the believers not to obey Satan, but rather to obey Him and His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) in following His commands and avoiding His prohibitions. And Beware, so Fear Allah and Fear His punishment if you obey Satan and oppose Allah's commands, so if you turned away and refused to submit to Allah's commands and prohibitions, then you will destroy yourselves and expose yourselves to Allah's wrath on the day of resurrection, and Know that only upon Our Messenger Muhammad is the clear conveyance, so He has to convey Allah's message to you and you bear the result of your disobedience.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (93) "There is no blame upon those who believe and do righteous deeds concerning what they have eaten if they fear and believe and do righteous deeds, then they fear and believe, then they fear and do good, and Allah loves the good doers", that is, the companions of Allah's Messenger asked about those who died while drinking intoxicants, and they were drinking them as well, so Allah revealed this Aya, where as narrated by Albara' bin Azib: "Some people among the companions of the Prophet (PBUH) died while they had been drinking wine, so when it was revealed that it is forbidden, some people among the companions of the Prophet said How about our companions who died while they were drinking it?, so this Aya was revealed there is no blame upon those who believe and do righteous deeds" (Jami' Altirmidhi 3051). So Allah assured that there is no blame upon those who believed in Him, His Messenger, and His Book, and did righteous deeds for what they drank of intoxicants in a situation in which Allah has not forbidden them, so He will not hold the dead accountable for drinking intoxicants before its prohibition, and He will not hold those who are alive accountable for drinking intoxicants before its prohibition if they fear Allah and fear His punishment, so they follow His commands and avoid His prohibitions, believe in Allah and His Messenger, and do righteous deeds, then they fear Allah and fear His punishment and believes, so they maintained their piety and their faith, and did not change or alter Allah's commands and prohibitions, and then they fear Allah and fear His punishment, and do good and seek nearness to Allah, and Allah loves the good doers who worship Allah as if they see Him, and if they can not see Him, then Allah sees them, so they act according to Allah's commands and prohibitions. And as narrated by Abdullah bin Mas'ud: "When this verse was revealed there is no blame upon those who believe and do righteous deeds concerning what they have eaten if they fear and believe, Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said to me it was said to Me that you are one amongst them" (Sahih Muslim 2459).
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (94) "O you who have believed! Allah will surely test you through something of the hunt that your hands and your spears attain that Allah may know those who fear Him, unseen, and whoever transgressed after that, then for Him there is a painful punishment", that is, Allah addresses the believers saying that He will surely test them through something of the hunt that their hands and their spears reach while they are in the state of Ihram as Allah has forbidden the hunt to them in the state of Ihram for Hajj or Umrah as shown above in Aya (1), so Allah will test them through the small game that their hands can reach such as birds, chicks, and eggs, and it includes hunting through the ropes, traps, and nets, and through the big game that their spears reach such as cows, antelopes, or ostrich, and Allah will test them with the game, so He makes it easy for them, and it does not require much effort to hunt it to the point that they will be able to take it with their hands or hunt it through their spears secretly and openly so that He may know those who fear and obey Allah in the unseen when no one but Allah sees them, so they adhere to Allah's limits, commands, and prohibitions, then Allah threatens those who transgress His limits and made lawful what He has forbidden by hunting during their Ihram with a painful torment in Hellfire on the day of resurrection.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (95) "O you who have believed! Do not kill the hunt while you are in the state of Ihram, and whoever of you kills it intentionally, the recompense is similar to what he has killed of the cattle according to the judgment of two just men from among you, as an offering reaching the Ka'bah, or an expiation the feeding of needy ones or the equivalent of that in fasting that he may taste the consequence of his affair, Allah has pardoned what has passed, but whoever returns, then Allah will take vengeance on him, and Allah is Almighty, the Possessor of vengeance", that is, Allah forbids the believers for the second time as in Aya (1) from hunting while they are in the state of Ihram saying Do not kill the hunt while you are in the state of Ihram for Hajj or Umrah, whether for food or for anything else, and Allah's Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) has made an exception for some harmful animals and birds when He said in narration of Abdullah bin Umar: "It is not sinful of a person in the state of Ihram to kill any of these five animals, the scorpion, the rat, the rabid dog, the crow, and the kite" (Sahih Albukhari 3315). Then Allah clarifies the ruling of he who kills the game intentionally in the state of Ihram, whether he forgets his Ihram or remembers it, and gives him the choice between three ways, so he chooses whatever he wants from them, the first choice is a compensation from livestock equal to what he has killed according to the judgment of two just men from among the Muslims, but if the hunt has no equivalent, then its value will be estimated and then he will buy an equivalent of the cattle with it, and it was said that the companions of Allah's Messenger (PBUH) had judged the ostrich with a camel, the wild cow with a cow, and the gazelle with a goat. Then Allah assures that this compensation will reach the Ka'ba (The Sacred House of Mecca), so the equivalent of the cattle will be slaughtered there, and its meat will be distributed to the poor.
The second choice for the one who killed the hunt intentionally while he is in the state of Ihram is an expiation the feeding of needy people, then the value of what he had killed will be estimated and then he will buy food with it, and gives it in charity to the needy people, and the feeding varies according to what He has killed of the cattle as the companions of Allah's Messenger (PBUH) judged that he feeds six needy ones if he kills a gazelle, feeds twenty need ones if he kills a wild cow, and feeds thirty needy ones if he kills an ostrich, and they judged that he gives a Mudd to every needy one, and the Mudd is approximately three-quarter of a kilogram of grains or the equivalent amount of food. The third choice is the equivalent of that in fasting, so he has to fast the equivalent of food that he gives in charity, so if the equivalent of what he had killed is six Mudds, he has to fast six days, so he should fast one day for every Mudd. And Allah makes it obligatory upon him to make an expiation for what he had killed during his Ihram so that he may taste the consequence of his action in which he transgressed the limits of Allah, and Allah has pardoned what has passed before, so He will not hold them accountable for what they had killed of the hunt during their Ihram before the ruling of expiation was revealed, but whoever returns and kills the hunt during his Ihram after its prohibition and the legal ruling comes to him, Allah will take vengeance on him, but that will not exempt him form the expiation of what he had killed, so he has to make an expiation with one of these three ways, and Allah is the Almighty who is Severe in His revenge on those who disobeyed Him where He is the Possessor of vengeance.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (96) "It has been made lawful for you the hunt of the sea and its food as a provision for you and for the travelers, but it has been forbidden to you the hunt of the land as long as you are in the state of Ihram, and Fear Allah, the One to whom you will be gathered", that is, Allah has made lawful the hunt of the sea for the believers, whether they are in the state of Ihram or not, so it permissible for them to eat what they caught from the sea and its food that the sea threw to its shore, so what they catch and what they did not catch is a provision for those are in the state of Ihram, whether they are the residents in Mecca or travelers on their way to Mecca, so the dead fish has been made lawful for the Muslims as shown above in Aya (3), and as narrated by Jabir bin Abdullah: "Allah's Messenger (PBUH) sent us on an expedition and appointed Abu Ubaida our chief that we might intercept a caravan of Quraish and provided us with a bag of dates, and he found for us nothing besides it, Abu Ubaida gave each of us one date, one date, Abu Zubair said to Jabir What did you do with that?, he said we sucked that just as a baby sucks and then drank water over that, and it sufficed us for the day until night. We beat off leaves with the help of our staffs, then drenched them with water and ate them, we then went to the coast of the sea, and there rose before us on the coast of the sea something like a big mound, we came near that and we found that it was a beast called Al-anbar (Sperm whale), Abu Ubaida said it is dead, he then said no, we have been sent by the Messenger of Allah in the way of Allah, and you are forced to it, so you eat that. We were three hundred stayed there for a month, until we grew bulky, Jabir said I saw how we extracted pitcher after pitcher full of fat from the cavity of its eye, and sliced from it compact piece of meat equal to a bull or like a bull. Abu Ubaida called forth thirteen men from us and he made them sit in the cavity of its eye, and he took hold of one of the ribs of its chest and made it stand and then saddled the biggest of the camels we had with us and it passed under it, and we provided ourselves with pieces of boiled meat (for use in our journey). When we came back to Medina, we went to Allah's Messenger and made a mention of that to Him, whereupon, He said that was a provision which Allah has brought forth for you, Is there any piece of meat with you, so that you give to us that?, Jabir said we sent to Allah's Messenger some of that and He ate it (Sahih Muslim 1935).
And Allah has forbidden the hunt of the land as long as they are in the state of Ihram, whether they hunt for eating, selling,, or owning, and it is not permissible for the pilgrim in the sate of Ihram to hunt a game, to buy it, or to accept a game that it is hunted for him, where as narrated by Abdullah bin Abbas from Alsa'b bin Jathamah Al-Laiythi: "The latter presented an onager to Allah's Messenger (PBUH) while He was at Alabwa' or at Waddan (Two places between Mecca and Medina, southwest of Medina), and He refused it, on noticing the signs of some unpleasant feeling of disappointment on his face, the Prophet said to him I have only returned it because I am in the state of Ihram (Muhrim)" (Sahih Albukhari 1825). But it is permissible to the pilgrim to eat the hunt if it is hunted by he who is not in the state of Ihram (Non-Muhrim) and if it is not hunted for him, where as narrated by Abdullah bin Qatadah on the authority of his father: "The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) set out for pilgrimage, and we also set out along with Him, he said then proceeded on some of His companions, and Abu Qatadah was one of them, Allah's Messenger said you proceed along the coastline till you meet Me, Abu Qatadah said so they proceeded along the coastline, and proceeded ahead of Allah's Messenger, all of them has entered in the state of Ihram except Abu Qatadah, he had not put on Ihram, as they went on they saw a wild ass, and Abu Qatadah attacked it and cut off its hind legs, they got down and ate its meat, they said we ate meat in the state of Ihram, they carried the meat that was left of it, as they came to the Messenger of Allah, they said Messenger of Allah! We were in the state of Ihram whereas Abu Qatadah was not, we saw a wild ass, and Abu Qatadah attacked it and cut off its hind legs, we got down and ate its meat, and we thus ate the meat of a game while we were in the state of Ihram, we have what was left out of its meat, thereupon, Allah's Messenger said Did anyone of you command him or point to him with anything (to hunt)?, they said no, thereupon, He said then Eat what is left out of its meat" (Sahih Muslim 1196 e).
The jurists disagreed about hunting amphibians that live in the sea and on land like frogs, crabs, and turtles, so some of them said it is forbidden to hunt them in the state of Ihram, and Allah's Messenger has forbidden killing frogs as narrated by Abdul-Rahman bin Uthman: "When a physician consulted the Prophet (PBUH) about putting frogs in medicine, He forbade him to kill them" (Sunan Abu Dawood 5269). so it is not permissible to hunt or eat the frogs, whether in the state of Ihram or not. Then Allah commanded the believers to Fear Him and Fear His punishment, so Obey His commands and Avoid His prohibitions, and He is the One to whom you will be gathered on the day of resurrection, and He will reward those who obey Him and will punish those who disobey Him.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (97,98) "Allah has made the Ka'bah, the Sacred House, standing for the people and the sacred month and the sacrificial animals and the garlands, that is so that you may know that Allah knows what is in the heavens and the earth and that Allah is All-Knower of everything, Know that Allah is Severe in punishment and that Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful", that is, Allah has glorified His rituals and made them a source of secure for the people, and Allah made them rituals of the religion of Islam, pure for Him as they were the rituals of Pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah) in which the polytheists of Quraish associated their false gods with Allah. So Allah has made the Ka'bah, the Sacred House, standing for the people, as Allah made the Ka'bah a secure sanctuary, so the people of Quraish were in a great security, while the people around them are being snatched away as mentioned in Aya (67) of Surat Alankaboot, Allah has made the sacred months a source of secure for the people, so they do not terrorize anyone, they do not seek retaliation, and they do not expect any revenge on these sacred months, and the sacred months are Rajab, and three successive months, which are Dhul-Qa'dah, Dhul-Hijjah, and Almuharram as shown above in Aya (2), and Allah has made the sacrificial animals and their garlands a source of secure for the people, so the sacrificial animals will be distinguished from other animals, so it will be known that they are gifts to the Ka'bah, so whoever intends harm to them will refrain from doing so as shown above in Aya (2). And Allah has made the Ka'bah, the sacred month, and the sacrificial animals and their garlands standing for the people so that they know that Allah knows what is in the heavens and the earth and that Allah is All-Knower of everything, so He knows that the polytheists of Quraish violate His rituals as nothing of their affair is hidden from Him. Then Allah addresses the people saying Know that Allah is Severe in punishment and that Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful, so Allah is Severe in punishment and revenge on those who disobey Him and transgress His limits and rituals, but at the same time, Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful for those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (99,100) "It is not upon the Messenger except the conveyance, and Allah knows what you declare and what you conceal, Say the wicked and the good are not equal, even if the abundance of the wicked impresses you, so Fear Allah, O you of understanding so that you may succeed", that is, Allah threatens those who disobeyed His commands and violated His rituals saying that it is not upon His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) except to convey Allah's Message to them and they bear the result of their disobedience, and Allah assures them that He knows what they declare and what they conceal in their breasts of hypocrisy and disbelief. Then Allah commanded His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) to assure the people that the wicked and the good are not equal even if the abundance of the wicked impress them, so a little that is lawful and beneficial is better that a lot that is unlawful and harmful, and the good is better than the evil even if it is few, so Allah commanded those of understanding to fear Him and fear His punishment, so Avoid the wicked and what is forbidden, and Be content with the good and what is permissible so that you may succeed in the worldly life and the Hereafter.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (101,102) "O you who have believed! Do not ask about things that if they are shown to you, they will distress you, but if you ask about them while the Quran is being revealed, they will be shown to you, Allah has pardoned it, and Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Forbearing, indeed, a people asked for them before you, then they became thereby disbelievers", that is, the people used to ask Allah's Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) about things, some times as a test for Him, and some times as a mockery, so Allah forbade the believers from asking about things that are of no use to them in asking and investigating them, because if these things were made clear to them, they would displease them, and would be difficult for them to hear such as the man who asked Allah's Messenger about his fate on the day of resurrection, and Allah's Messenger told him that he will be in Hellfire, undoubtedly, this question destroyed its questioner, and the man who asked Allah's Messenger about his father because the people were doubting his lineage to his father, and this question could have caused a scandal for the questioner and his family if he were a son of adultery, where as narrated by Ibn Abbas: "Some people were asking Allah's Messenger mockingly, a man would say Who is my father?, another man whose she-camel got lost would say Where is my she-camel?, so Allah revealed this Aya in this connection O you who have believed! Do not ask about things that if they are shown to you, they will distress you" (Sahih Albukhari 4622).
And as narrated by Anas bin Malik: "The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) stood when the sun had passed the meridian and He led them noon prayer and after observing salutations, He stood upon the pulpit, and talked about the Hour (The day of resurrection) and made a mention of the important facts prior to it and then said he who desires to ask anything from Me let him ask Me about it, by Allah! I shall not move from this place as long as I do not inform you about that which you ask. Anas bin Malik said people began to shed tears profusely when they heard this from Allah's Messenger, and Allah's Messenger said it repeatedly Ask Me, thereupon, Abdullah bin Hudhafa stood up and said Allah's Messenger! Who is my father?, He said your father is Hudhafa, and Allah's Messenger said repeatedly Ask Me. Umar knelt down and said we are pleased with Allah as our Lord, with Islam as our religion, and with Muhammad as the Messenger. Allah's Messenger kept quiet as long as Umar spoke, then Allah's Messenger said is near (The Doom), by Him in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad! There was presented to Me the Paradise and the Fire in the nook of this enclosure, and I did not see good and evil like that of the present day. Ibn Shihab said reported that Ubaidullah bin Abdullah bin Utba told me that the mother of Abdullah bin Hudhafa said to Abdullah bin Hudhafa I have never heard of a son more disobedient than you, Do you feel yourself immune from the fact that your mother committed a sin which the women in Pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah) and then you disgrace her in the eyes of the people?, Abdullah bin Hudhafa said if my fatherhood were to be attributed to a black slave, I would have connected myself with Him" (Sahih Muslim 2359 c). And in another narration of Anas bin Malik also: "A man got up and asked Where will my entrance be O Allah's Messenger?, the Prophet (PBUH) said the Fire" (Sahih Albukhari 7294).
Thereupon, Allah commanded the believers not to ask about things that they do not need, for if they appear to them, they will distress and grieve them, and make them regret asking about them; because of the embarrassment, hardship, and scandal for some of them. And if they ask about them at the time of revelation, they will appear to them through the revelation, and that would be a reason of a hard obligations on them, and this prohibition was at the time of revelation during which the rulings could be changed, and as narrated by Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas that the Prophet (PBUH) said; "The most sinful person among the Muslims is that the one who asked about something which had not been prohibited, but was prohibited because of his asking" (Sahih Albukhari 7289). And as narrated by Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (PBUH) said: "Leave Me as I leave you, for the people before you were ruined because of their questions and their differences over their Prophets, so if I forbid you to do something, then Keep away from it, and if I order you to do something, then do of it as much as you can" (Sahih Albukhari 7288). But if they asked about things that had been revealed in the Holy Quran such as permission, prohibition, or ruling, and they are in need of their explanation, then they will become clear to them because of their need of them. Today, there is no blame upon whoever asks an inquiring question, desiring knowledge and searching for a meaning that must be understood in the religion; because his question is not subject to any fear that it will be prohibited for his sake.
Then Allah assures the believers that He has forgiven them for asking about the things that they asked Allah's Messenger about, so He will not hold them accountable for them or punish them, and Allah is All-Forgiving who forgives those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds, Most Forbearing for those who disobey him by not hastening His punishment. Then Allah warned the believers from following the path of those before them from among the nations that perished because they used to ask forbidden questions, and when they were answered about them, and these things were made clear to them, they did not benefit from them, but rather they had become disbelievers in them; Because they did not ask about them for guidance, but rather for obstinacy and mockery.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (103) "Allah has not made Bahirah or Sa'ibah or Wasilah or Ham, but those who disbelieve invent the lie about Allah, and most of them do not understand", that is, Allah declares that He has not appointed the cattle that the polytheists had vowed to their false gods and idols such as Bahirah, Sa'ibah, Wasilah, or Ham, so Allah did not legislated these things nor are they a means of worship and closeness to Him, but the disbelievers fabricated the lie and falsehood against Allah for they made them a means by which they draw closer to Allah, and that is nothing but a clear error for they only follow the footsteps of Satan but most of them do not understand, and as narrated by Sa'id bin Almusaiyab: "Bahirah is a she-camel whose milk is kept for the idols and nobody is allowed to milk it, Sa'ibah was the she-camel which they used to set free for their gods and nothing was allowed to be carried on it, Abu Hurayrah said Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said I saw Amr bin Amir Alkhuza'i dragging his intestines in the Fire, and he was the first person to establish the tradition of setting free the Sa'ibah, Wasilah is the she-camel which gives birth to a she-camel as its first delivery, and then gives birth to another she-camel as its second delivery, people used to let that she-camel loose for their idols if it gave birth to two she-camels successively without giving birth to a male camel between, Ham was the male camel which was used for copulation, when it had finished the number of copulation assigned for it, they would let loose for their idols and excuse it from burdens so that nothing would be carried on it, and they called it the Hami, Abu Hurayrah said I heard the Prophet (PBUH) saying so" (Sahih Albukhari 4623). And as narrated by Aisha that Allah's Messenger said: "I saw Hellfire and its different portions were consuming each other, and saw Amr dragging his intestines, and he was the first person to establish the tradition of setting free the Sa'ibah" (Sahih Albukhari 4624).
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (104) "And when it was said to them Come to what Allah has sent down and to the Messenger, they say sufficient for us is that upon which we found our fathers, even if their fathers were not knowing anything nor were they guided?", that is, Allah tells about those who have invent a lie against Him saying when it was said to them Come to what Allah has sent down in the Holy Quran and to the Messenger, so Submit to Allah and His law, and Adhere to what He has made obligatory and what He has made forbidden, they say sufficient for us is that upon which we found our forefathers, so they are our leaders and we are satisfied with what they were upon of prohibitions and obligations, thereupon, Allah assures that their forefathers were upon nothing when they attributed things to Allah that Allah did not appoint for them, and they prohibited things that Allah did not prohibit such as Bahirah, Sa'ibah, Wasilah or Ham as shown in the previous verse, and when they said what is in the bellies of these cattle is exclusively for our males and forbidden to our spouses as mentioned in Aya (139) of Surat Alan'am, so their forefathers were not knowing anything when they adding to Allah what He did not send down any authority of it and what has no truth or any validity, nor were they guided to any path of guidance, but rather they were upon error and disbelief, so How can they follow their forefathers in this situation?, so they are more ignorant and more astray than them.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (105) "O you who have believed! Upon you is yourselves, those who have gone astray will not harm you when you have been guided, to Allah is your return all together, then He will inform you of what you used to do", that is, Allah commands the believers to reform themselves and to do good saying upon you is yourselves, those who have gone astray will not harm you when you have been guided, so whoever reforms himself will not be harmed by the corrupter, whether he is closer to him or not, so you have responsibility over yourselves, so Reform them, and Do good to save yourselves form Allah's punishment, and those who disbelieved and and followed other than the path of guidance will not harm you if you are guided, believing in your Lord, and obeying Him in what He has commanded and in what He has forbidden. There is no evidence in this Aya for abandoning enjoining good and forbidding evil if it is possible to do so, but this Aya is obligatory at a time when corruption and injustice are spreading on the earth, where as narrated by Abu Bakr Alsiddiq: "O you people! You recite this Aya O you who have believed! Upon you is yourselves, those who have gone astray will not harm you when you have been guided, and indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) saying when the people see the wrongdoer, and they do not stop him, then it is soon that Allah shall envelope them in a punishment from Him" (Jami' Altirmidhi 3057).
And as narrated by Abu Umayah Alsha'bani: "I went to Abu Tha'labah Alkhushani and said to Him How do you deal with this Aya?, He said Which Aya?, I said Allah's saying O you who have believed! Upon you is yourselves, those who have gone astray will not harm you when you have been guided, he said well by Allah! I asked one well-informed about it, I asked the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) about it, He said rather Enjoin the good, and Forbid from the evil until you see avarice obeyed, desires followed, the world preferred, and everyone is amazed with his view, then you should be worried about yourself in particular, and Leave the common folk, ahead of you are the days in which patience is like holding onto an ember for the doer (of good deeds) during them is the like of the reward of fifty of those who do the like of what you do, Abdullah bin Almubarak said it was added for me by other than Utbah that it was said O Messenger of Allah! The reward of fifty men among us or them?, He said no, rather the reward of fifty men among you" (Jami' Altirmidhi 3058). So the Muslim enjoins good and forbids from evil as long as people respond to that for Allah says in Aya (110) of Surat Aliemran "You are the best nation produced for mankind, you enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong, and believe in Allah", but if corruption spreads, then everyone is responsible for himself and none will be held accountable for the sins of others, and all mankind will return to Allah on the day of resurrection, then He will inform them of what they used to do of good or evil, and He will recompense each for his deed.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (106) "O you who have believed! Testimony among you when the death approaches one of you at the time of the bequest, two just men from among you or two others from other than you if you are traveling in the land and the calamity of death afflicts you, Detain them after the prayer and let them both swear by Allah if you doubt we will not exchange it for a price even if he was a near of kin, and we will not conceal the testimony of Allah, indeed, we would then be of the sinners", that is, Allah addresses the believers saying testimony among you when the death approaches one of you at the time of bequest, two just men from among the Muslims bear witness to his bequest or two men from other than the Muslims such as Christians, Jews, or other than that if you did not find any Muslim with you when you are traveling in the land and the calamity of death befalls you, so if you travel in the land and you are overtaken by death during your journey, and none of the Muslims is with you, then Call two men from among the Christians or Jews and make them both bear witness to your bequest and give them your inheritance in order to deliver it to your family, and if the dead person's family is satisfied with the bequest and knows the inheritance of the dead person, then they will leave the two men, but if they are in doubt about the two men, then they have to detain them after the prayer and let them both swear by Allah that it is the man's bequest and that they did not exchange the bequest for a price even if the one to whom they bear witness was a near of kin, and that they did not distort, betray, or conceal completely the testimony of Allah for they would then be of the sinners.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (107,108) "But if it is found that those two were guilty of a sin, let two others stand in their place from those who have a lawful right, and let them both swear by Allah that our testimony is truer than their testimony, and we have not transgressed, indeed, we would then be of the wrongdoers, this is more likely that they will give the testimony in its proper way, or that they would fear that oaths might be taken after their oaths, and Fear Allah and Listen, and Allah does not guide the disobedient people", that is, if it becomes apparent to you that the two testamentary witnesses have betrayed or concealed the bequest, so they have stolen some of the money entrusted to them, then let two men of the heirs worthy of the estate, who have the lawful right to inherit the dead person, stand up in their place, and let them both swear by Allah that their oaths are more truthful than the oaths of the testamentary witnesses, and that the oaths of the testamentary witnesses are invalid, and that they did not transgress and say other than the truth, so they did not wrong the witnesses for they would then be of the wrongdoers, and as narrated by Ibn Abbas: "A man from the tribe of Banu Sahm went out in the company of Tamin Adari and Adi bin Badda', the man of Banu Sahm died in a land where there was no Muslim, when Tamim and Adi returned with his property, they claimed that they had lost a silver bowel with gold engraving, Allah's Messenger (PBUH) made them take an oath, and then the bowl was found in Mecca with some people who claimed that they had bought it from Tamim and Adi, then two witnesses from the relatives of the deceased got up and swore that their testimony was more valid than the testimony of Tamin and Adi, and that the bowl belonged to their deceased fellow, and Ibn Abbas said this verse was sent down in connection with them O you who have believed! Testimony among you when the death approaches one of you" (Sahih Albukhari 2780). Then Allah assures that His ruling regarding the testamentary witnesses is closer that they will give the testimony in its proper form, so they will be truthful in their oaths and venerate swearing by Allah, and they will not conceal or betray the bequest, and it is more likely that they will fear scandal among the people if the oaths of the heirs will be taken in rebuttal of their oaths, then Allah commanded the believers to fear Him and fear His punishment if they disobey His commands, swear by Allah falsely in order to consume the property of the deceased person, and betray the one who trust you, and listen and obey what Allah has legislated for you, and Allah does not guide the disobedient people who disobey His commands and follow the footsteps of Satan.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (109) "The day when Allah will gather the Messengers and say What was the response you received?, they will say We have no knowledge, indeed, it is You who is All-Knower of the unseen", that is, Allah will gather the Messengers on the day of resurrection and will ask them What was the response they received from the nations to whom they were sent?, and they will say to Allah we have no knowledge, indeed, You are the All-Knower of the unseen, so Your knowledge encompasses whatever is in the heavens and the earth, and You know what is apparent to us and what is hidden from us, we have conveyed Your messages to them, but You know best of the believers who conceal and declare belief, the hypocrites who conceal disbelief and declare belief, and the disbelievers who conceal and declare disbelief.
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (110) "When Allah will say O Jesus, son of Mary! Remember My favor upon You and upon Your mother when I supported You with the Holy Spirit and You speak to the people in the cradle and in maturity, and when I taught You the writing and the wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel, and when You create from the clay like the form of the bird by My permission, then You blow into it, and it becomes a bird by My permission, and You heal the blind and the leper by My permission, and when You bring forth the dead by My permission, and when I restrained the Children of Israel from You when You came to them with the clear proofs and those who disbelieved among them said this is nothing but a clear magic", that is, Allah cites some of His favors and miracles that He has bestowed upon His Servant and Messenger Jesus, the son of Mary, peace be upon Him, so Allah addresses Him saying Remember My favor upon You and upon Your mother Mary when I created You from a mother without a father as a sign to the people as mentioned in Aya (21) of Surat Maryam, when I supported you with Gabriel, the Holy Spirit, and you spoke to the people in the cradle and the maturity, so I made you a Prophet calling to worship Allah alone in childhood and maturity, and it was a sign of the innocence of Your mother from the immorality that her people attributed to her, as Jesus said to His people when Mary brought Him to them "Indeed, I am the servant of Allah, He has given Me the Book and made Me a Prophet" as mentioned in Aya (30) of Surat Maryam, when I taught You the writing, the wisdom and understanding of Allah's verses, the Torah which was revealed to the Prophet Moses, peace be upon Him, and the Gospel that I revealed to You, when You mold and shape from the clay the form of the bird by My permission for you to do that, then You breathe into that form, and it becomes a bird with a soul by My permission, and You heal the blind and the leper for whom there is no cure by My permission, when you bring forth the dead, so You call them and they rise from their graves by My permission, and when I restrained the Children of Israel from You when You came to them with the clear proofs and signs that indicate the truthfulness of what You came them with, but they denied You and accused You of being a sorcerer when those who disbelieved among them said this is nothing but a clear magic, so they sought to kill and crucify You, but I saved You from them and raised You to Me.
Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (111-113) "And when I inspired to the disciples Believe in Me and in My Messenger, they said We have believed, and Bear witness that indeed, we are Muslims, when the disciples said O Jesus, son of Mary, Can Your Lord send down to us a table from the heaven?, He said Fear Allah if you are believers, they said we wish that we eat from it and our hearts be reassured and we know that indeed, You have been truthful to us, and we become witnesses over it", that is, Allah reminds the Prophet Jesus of His favors that He has bestowed upon Him when He made disciples for Him, and Allah has inspired to the disciples that Believe in Me and in My Messenger Jesus, so they believed and said to Allah Bear witness that indeed, we are Muslims, so we are submissive and obedient to Your command. And when the disciples asked the Prophet Jesus for a sign from Allah saying O Jesus, son of Mary, Can Your Lord send down to us a table from the heaven?, so Ask Allah for a table of food from the heaven, but the Prophet Jesus said to them Fear Allah and Fear His punishment if you are believers for you are in doubt about Allah's ability to send down a table from the heaven, but the disciples said to the Prophet Jesus we wish that we eat from the table and our hearts be reassured by it, and we know that indeed, You have been truthful to us in what you came with from Allah, so you are Allah's Messenger and Prophet, and we become witnesses over the table, so we will bear witness that Allah has sent the table as a sign for His great ability to do whatever He wills.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (114,115) "Jesus, son of Mary, said O Allah, Our Lord! Send down to us a table from the heaven to be for us a feast for the first of us and the last of us and a sign from You, and Provide for us, and You are the Best of Providers, Allah said indeed, I will send it down to you, but whoever disbelieves afterwards from among you, then indeed, I will punish him with a punishment by which I have not punished anyone among the worlds", that is, Jesus, peace be upon Him, responded to the disciples and asked Allah for a table of food from the heaven to be for them a festival for the first and the last of them, so they will take the day on which it has been sent down a feast that they and those after them will venerate, and to be a sign from Allah of Allah's ability to do whatever He wills, and of answering the supplication of His Messenger Jesus, so their hearts will be reassured and they will know that Jesus has been truthful to them as they claimed in the previous verse, and the Prophet Jesus supplicated Allah to provide for them saying and Provide for us, and You are the Best of Providers, so give us of Your giving, and You are the Most Generous and the Best of those who give.
Thereupon, Allah responded to His Messenger Jesus saying that He will send it down to them and will feed them, but He threatened them saying that whoever disbelieves afterwards from among the disciples who asked for the table, so he denies the Prophecy of Jesus and disobeys Allah after eating from the table, then indeed, Allah will punish him with a punishment by which He have not punished anyone among the worlds. And this is the ruling of Allah regarding those who ask for signs in order to believe in Him and in His Messengers, then they disbelieve after that, where as narrated by Ibn Abbas: "Quraish said to the Prophet (PBUH) Call upon your Lord to turn the Safa (mount) into gold for us, and if it becomes gold, we will follow You, so He called upon His Lord, then Gabriel, peace be upon Him, came to Him and said Your Lord extends greeting of Salam to You, and says to You if You wish, the Safa will become gold for them, but whoever among them disbelieves, I will punish him with a punishment by which I have not punished anyone among the worlds, and if You wish, I will open for them the door of repentance and mercy, He said rather, the door of repentance and mercy" (Musnad Ahmed 2166).
Allah Almighty says in the next verse (116) "And when Allah will say O Jesus, son of Mary! Did you say to the people Take Me and My mother as two gods besides Allah?, He will say Glory to be You! It was not for Me that I say that to which I have no right, if I had said it, then indeed, You would have known it, You know what is in Myself, and I do not know what is in Yourself, indeed, it is You who is All-Knower of the unseen", that is, Allah reaffirms the disbelief of those who said that Allah is the third of three as shown above in Aya (73), when He will say to Jesus, son of Mary, on the day of resurrection Did you say to the people Take Me and My mother as two gods besides Allah?, so Jesus will say to Allah Glory to be You! It was not for Me that I say that to which I have no right, so it is not for Me to claim for Myself what is not My right, if I had said it, then indeed, You would have known it, You know what is in Myself, and I do not know what is in Yourself, indeed, it is You who is All-knower of the unseen, so nothing I said, nor what I harbored in My heart is hidden from You.
Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (117,118) "I have not said to them except what You commanded Me with it, that Worship Allah, My Lord and your Lord, and I was a witness over them as long as I was among them, but when You took Me up, You were the Observer over them, and You are a Witness over everything, if You punish them, then indeed, they are Your servants, but if You forgive them, then indeed, it is You who is the Almighty, the All-Wise", that is, the Prophet Jesus said to Allah I have not said to My people except what You commanded Me to convey, so I called them to Worship Allah alone, My Lord and their Lord, and I was a witness over their deeds and actions as long as I was among them, but when You took Me up to the heaven You were the Observer over them, and You are a Witness over everything, so You are a Witness over My deeds, and their deeds, and You will judge between Me and them, so if You punish them then indeed, they are Your servants, but if You forgive them, then indeed, it is You who is the Almighty who is Severe in His revenge on those who disobeyed Him, the All-Wise who manages His creation with wisdom in His laws and destiny. And as narrated by Ibn Abbas: "The Prophet (PBUH) delivered a sermon and said you will be gathered before Allah bare-footed, naked, and uncircumcised, the Prophet then recited "As We began the first creation, We will repeat it, a promise upon Us, indeed, We will do it" (Surat Alanbiyaa Aya 104), and added, the first man who will be dressed on the day of resurrection will be Abraham, Lo! Some men from My Ummah will be brought and taken towards the left side, whereupon, I will say O Lord My companions! It will be said You do not know what new things they introduced after You, I will then say as the righteous Servant, Jesus, said and I was a witness over them as long as I was among them, but when You took Me up, You were the Observer over them, then it will be said these people never stopped to apostate since You left them" (Sahih Albukhari 4625).
And as narrated by Abdullah bin Amro bin Al-As: "the Prophet (PBUH) recited the words of Allah, the Almighty, regarding Abraham saying My Lord indeed, they have led astray many among the people, so whoever follows Me, then he is of Me (Surat Ibrahim Aya 36), and Jesus, peace be upon Him said If You punish them, then indeed, they are Your servants, but if You forgive them, then indeed, it is You who is the Almighty, the All-Wise, then He raised His hands and said O Lord! My Ummah, My Ummah and wept, so Allah, the Almighty, said O Gabriel! Go to Muhammad though Your Lord knows best, and Ask Him What makes You weep?, so Gabriel, peace be upon Him came to Him and asked Him and the Messenger of Allah informed Him what He had said, and Allah knows best, upon this Allah said O Gabriel! Go to Muhammad and say indeed, We will please You in Your Ummah and would not displease You" (Sahih Muslim 202).
Allah Almighty says in the last two verses (119,120) "Allah will say this is the day when the truthful will benefit from their truthfulness, for them there are gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein forever, Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him, that is the great success, to Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and whatever is within them, and He is All-Powerful over everything", that is, the Prophet Jesus, son of Mary, disavowed His people who have invented a lie against Allah and made Him the third of three by taking the Prophet Jesus and His mother as two gods besides Allah, and assured that He did not say to them except what Allah commanded Him with it, that Worship Allah, His Lord and their Lord as shown above in Aya (117), thereupon, Allah will say that the day of resurrection is the day when the truthful will benefit from their truthfulness on the worldly life, so Allah will be well-pleased with them and they will be well-pleased with Him due to the favor He has bestowed upon them, where He will admit them into Paradise in which He has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, and they will abide therein forever, and that is the great success after which there will be no misery or fatigue. Then Allah assures that the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and whatever is within them belongs to Him alone, and He disposes of them as He wills, so there is no God but Him, the God of Jesus, Mary, and whoever is in the heavens and the earth, and He is All-powerful to do whatever He wills, so neither impediment nor inability can prevent Him from doing whatever He wills.
