 9- Surat Altawbah

129 Verses  Maddani (revealed in Medina)

A'auzu Bellahi mena alshaiytani alrajeem

I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan

Bra-atun mena Allahi wa rasulehi ela allazina ahadtum mena almushrekeen (1).
Disavowing from Allah and His Messenger to those with whom you have taken a covenant among the polytheists.

Fa-seehuo fee alardi arba-ata ashhurin wa'lamuo annakum ghaiyruo mu'zejee ellahi wa anna Allaha mukhzi alkafereen (2).
So Travel freely throughout the land for four months, but know that you cannot cause failure to Allah, and that Allah will disgrace the disbelievers.

Wa azanun mena Allahi wa rasulehi ela alnasi yawma alhajji al-akbari anna Allaha baree-on mena almushrekeena wa rasuluhu fa-in tubtum fa-huwa khaiyrun lakum wa in tawallaytum fa'lamuo annakum ghaiyruo mu'jezee ellahi wa-bashsheri allazina kafaruo be-azabin aleem (3).
And an announcement from Allah and His Messenger to the people on the day of the greater pilgrimage that Allah is disavowing from the polytheists, and so is His Messenger, so if you repent, that is better for you, but if you turn away, then Know that you will not cause failure to Allah, and Give tidings to those who disbelieve of a painful punishment.

Ella allazina ahadtum mena almushrekeena thumma lam yanqusukum shaiy-an wa lam yuozaheruo alaiykum ahadan fa-atemmuo elaiyhim ahdahum ela muddatehim inna Allaha youhebbuo almuttaqeen (4).
Except those with whom you have taken a covenant among the polytheists, and then they have not been deficient towards you in anything, or supported anyone against you, so Complete for them their covenant until their term, indeed, Allah loves the righteous.

Fa-iza ensalakha al-ashhuruo alhurumuo fa-qtuluo almushrekeena haiythuo wajadtumuhum wa-khuzuhum wa-hsuruhum waq-uduo lahum kulla marsadin fa-in tabuo wa aqamuo alsalata wa atawuo alzakata fa-khalluo sabeelahum inna Allaha Ghafurum Raheem (5).
And when the sacred months have passed, then Kill the polytheists wherever you find them, and Seize them, and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush, but if they repent, and establish the prayer and give the Zakah, then let them on their way, indeed, Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Wa-in ahadun mena almushrekeena estajaraka fa-ajerhuo hatta yasma-a kalama Allahi thumma ableghhuo ma'manahuo zaleka be-annahum qawmun la ya'lamuon (6).
And if any one of the polytheists seeks your protection, then grant him protection so that he may hear the words of Allah, then Deliver him to his place of safety, that is because they are a people who do not know.

Kaiyfa yakunuo lel-mushrekeena ahdun enda Allahi wa enda rasulehi ella allazina ahadtum enda almasjedi alharami fa-ma estaqamuo lakum fa-staqeemuo lahum inna allaha youhebbuo almuttaqeen (7).
How can there be for the polytheists a covenant with Allah and with His Messenger except for those with whom you have taken a covenant at the Sacred Mosque?, so as long as they are upright towards you, Be upright towards them, indeed, Allah loves the righteous.

Kaiyfa wa-in yazharuo alaiykum la yarqubuo feekum ellan wa la zemmatan yurdunakum be-afwahehim wa ta'ba qulubuhum wa aktharuhum fasequon (8).
How, while if they overcome you, they do not observe any tie of kinship with you or covenant of protection?, they please you with their mouths, but their hearts refuse, and most of them are disobedient.

Eshtaraww be-ayati ellahi thamanan qaleelan fa-sadduo an sabeelehi innahum sa-a ma kanuo ya'maluon (9).
They have exchanged the verses of Allah for a small price, and prevented from His way, indeed, evil is what they used to do.

La yarqubuona fee mu'menin ellan wa la zemmatan wa aulaeka humuo almu'taduon (10).
They do not observe towards a believer any ties of kinship or covenant of protection, and those are the aggressors.

Fa-in tabuo wa aqamuo alsalata wa atawuo alzakata fa-ekhwanukum fee eldeeni wa nufasseluo al-ayati le-qawmin ya'lamuon (11).
But if they repent, and establish the prayer and give the Zakah, then they are your brothers in religion, and We detail the verses for a people who know.

Wa-in nakathuo aymanahum men ba'di ahdehim wa ta-anuo fee deenekum fa-qateluo a-emmata alkufri innahum la aymana lahum la-allahum yantahuon (12).
And if they break their oaths after their covenant and defame your religion, then Fight the leaders of disbelief, for indeed, there are no oaths for them, so that they may cease.

Ala tuqalteluona qawman nakathuo aymanahum wa hammuo be-ekhraji alrasuli wa hum bada-ukum awwala marratin a-takhshawnahum fa-llahu ahaqqu an takhshawhuo in kuntum mu'meneen (13).
Would you not fight a people who broke their oaths and determined to expel the Messenger, and they had begun you the first time?, Do you fear them?, but Allah has more right that you should fear Him, if you are believers.

Qateluhum you'azzebhumuo Allahu be-aydekum wa youkhzehim wa yansurkum alaiyhim wa yashfi sudura qawmin mu'meneen (14).
Fight them, Allah will punish them by your hands, and will disgrace them, and will help you over them and will heal the breasts of a believing people.

Wa youzhib ghaiyza qulubehim wa yatubuo Allahu ala man yasha-uo wa Allahu Aleemun Hakeem (15).
And will remove the rage of their hearts, and Allah will turn to whom He wills, and Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise.

Am hasebtum an tutrakuo wa lamma ya'lami ellahu allazina jahaduo menkum wa lam yattakhezuo men duoni ellahi wa la rasulehi wa la almu'meneena waleejatan wa Allahu Khabeerun bema ta'maluon (16).
Do you think that you be left while Allah has not yet made evident those among you who strive and do not take other than Allah, nor His Messenger, nor the believers as allies, and Allah is All-Aware of what you do.

Ma kana lel-mushrekeena an ya'muruo masajeda Allahi shahedeena ala anfusehim bel-kufri aulaeka habetat a'maluhum wa fee alnari hum khaleduon (17).
It is not for the polytheists to maintain the mosques of Allah, witnessing against themselves with disbelief, those, their deeds were nullified, and in the fire, they will abide forever.

Innama ya'muruo masajeda Allahi man amana be-llahi wa alyawni alakheri wa aqama alsalata wa ata alzakata wa lam yakhsha ella Allaha fa-asa aulaeka an yakunuo mena almuhtadeen (18).
The mosques of Allah are only to be maintained by he who believes in Allah, and the last Day, and establishes the prayer, and gives the Zakah and does not fear except Allah, then perhaps that those will be of the guided.

Have you made the providing of water for the pilgrims and the maintenance of the Sacred Mosque equal to the one who believes in Allah and the last Day and strives in the way of Allah?, they are not equal in the sight of Allah, and Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.

Allazina amanuo wa hajaruo wa jahaduo fee sabeeli ellahi be-amwalehim wa anfusehim a'zamuo darajatan enda Allahi wa aulaeka humuo alfa-ezuon (20).
Those who have believed and emigrated and striven in the way of Allah with their wealth and their lives are greater in degree in the sight of Allah, and those who are the winners.

Youbashsheruhum Rabbuhum be-rahmatin menhuo wa redwanin wa jannatin lahum feeha na-eemun muqeem (21).
Their Lord gives them glad tidings of mercy from Him, and pleasure and gardens for them therein is a constant bliss.

Khaledeena feeha Abadan inna Allaha endahuo ajrun azeem (22).
Abiding therein forever, indeed, Allah has with Him a great reward.

Ya-ayyuha allazina amanuo la tattakhezuo aba-akum wa ekhwanakum awliya-a ini estahabbuo alkufra ala alimani wa man yatawallahum menkum fa-aulaeka humuo alzalemuon (23).
O you who have believed! Do not take your fathers and your brothers as allies if they have preferred disbelief over belief, and whoever among you takes them as allies, then those who are the wrongdoers.

Say if your fathers, and your sons, and your brothers, and your spouses, and your clan and wealth which you have obtained, and trade wherein you fear decline, and dwellings with which you are pleased are more beloved to you than Allah and His Messenger, and striving in His way, then Wait until Allah comes with His command, and Allah does not guide the disobedient people.

Laqad nasarakumu Allahu fe mawatena katheratin wa yawma hunaiynin iz a'jabatkum kathratukum fa-lam tuoghni ankum shaiy-an wa daqat alaiykumuo alarduo bema rahubat thumma wallaytum mudbereen (25).
Allah has given you victory in many places, and on the day of Hunayn, when your great number pleased you, but it did not avail you in anything, and the earth was straitened for you despite its vastness, then you turned back, fleeing.

Thumma anzala Allahu sakeenatahuo ala rasulehi wa ala almu'meneena wa anzala junudan lam tarawha wa azzaba allazina kafaruo wa zaleka jaza-uo alkafereen (26).
Then Allah sent down His tranquility upon His Messenger and upon the believers and sent down soldiers whom you did not see and punished those who disbelieved, and that is the recompense of the disbelievers.

Thumma yatubuo Allahu men ba'di zaleka ala man yasha-uo wa Allahu Ghafurun Raheem (27).
Then Allah will turn after that for whom He wills, and Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Ya-ayyuha allazina amanuo inamma almushrekuona najasun fa-la yaqrabuo almasjeda alharama ba'da amehim haza wa in kheftum aylatan fa-sawfa youghnekumuo Allahu men fadlehi in sha-a inna Allaha Aleemun Hakeem (28).
O you who have believed! Indeed, the polytheists are unclean, so let them not approach the Sacred Mosque after this year of theirs, and if you fear poverty, Allah will enrich you from His bounty if He wills, indeed, Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise.

Qateluo allazina la you'menuona be-llahi wa la bel-yawmi alakheri wa la youharremuona ma harrama Allahu wa rasuluhu wa la yadenuona deena alhaqqi mena allazina autuo alketaba hatta you'tuo aljezyata an yadin wa hum sagheruon (29).
Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day, and who do not forbid what Allah and His Messenger have forbidden, and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the book until they give the Jizyah in humiliation while they are despised.

Wa qalati alyahuduo auzayrun ibnuo Allahi wa qalati alnasara almaseehuo ibnuo Allahi zaleka qawluhum be-afwahehim youdahe-uona qawla allazina kafaruo men qabluo qatalahumuo Allahu anna you'fakuon (30).
The Jews say Ezra is the son of Allah, and the Christians say the Messiah is the son of Allah, that is their saying from their mouths, they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before, May Allah destroy them, How are they being turned away?.

Ettakhazuo ahbarahum wa ruhbanahum arbaban men duoni ellahi wa almaseeha ibna maryama wa ma aumeruo ella leya'buduo elahan wahedan la illaha ella huwa subhanahuo amma youshrekuon (31).
They have taken their rabbis and monks as lords besides Allah, and the Messiah, the son of Mary, and they were not commanded except to worship one God, there is no God but He, Glory to be Him above what they associate.

Youreduona an youtfe-uo noora Allahi be-afwahehim wa ya'ba Allahu ella an youtemma nurahuo wa laww kareha alkaferuon (32).
They want to extinguish the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah refuses except to perfect His light even though the disbelievers dislike.

Huwa allazi arsala rasulahu bel-huda wa deeni alhaqqi le-youzherahuo ala aldeeni kullehi wa laww kareha almushrekuon (33).
He is the One who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to make it prevail over all religion even though the polytheists dislike.

O you who have believed! Indeed, many of the rabbis and the monks devour the wealth of the people unjustly, and prevent from the way of Allah, and those who hoard gold and silver and do not spend it in the way of Allah, Give them tidings of a painful punishment.

Yawma youhma alaiyha fee nari jahannama fa-tukwa beha jebahuhum wa junubuhum wa zuhuruhum haza ma kanaztum le-anfusekum fa-zuquo ma kuntum taknezuon (35).
The day when it will be heated in the fire of Hellfire, and their foreheads, and their sides, and their backs will be cauterized thereby, this is what you hoarded for yourselves, so Taste what you used to hoard.

Inna eddata alshuhuri enda Allahi ethna ashara shahran fee ketabi ellahi yawma khalaqa alsamawati wa alarda menha arba-atun hurumun zaleka aldeenuo alqayyimuo fa-la tazlemuo fehinna anfusakum wa-qateluo almushrekeena kaffatan kama youqatelunakum kaffatan wa'lamuo anna Allaha ma-a almuttaqeen (36).
Indeed, the number of the months with Allah is twelve months in the book of Allah on the day He created the heavens and the earth, of which there are four sacred, that is the straight religion, so Do not wrong yourselves during them, and Fight against the polytheists all together as they fight against you all together, and Know that Allah is with the righteous.

Innama alnase-uo ziyadatun fee alkufri youdalluo behi allazina kafaruo yuohellunahuo aman wa youharremunahuo aman le-youwateuo eddata ma harrama Allahu fe-youhelluo ma harrama Allahu zuyyina lahum su-uo a'malehim wa Allahu la yahdi alqawma alkafereen (37).
Indeed, the postponement is only an increase in disbelief by which those who have disbelieved are led astray, they make it lawful one year and unlawful another year, so that they may conform to the number of what Allah has made unlawful, so they make lawful what Allah has made unlawful, it has been adorned for them the evil of their deeds, and Allah does not guide the disbelieving people.

Ya-ayyuha allazina amanuo ma lakum iza qeela lakum enferuo fee sabeeli ellahi eththaqaltum ela alardi a-radetum bel-hayati alduonya mena al-akherati fama mata-uo alhayati alduonya fee al-akherati ella qaleel (38).
O you who have believed! What is with you that when it is said to you Go forth in the way of Allah, you cling heavily to the earth?, Are you satisfied with the worldly life rather than the Hereafter?, but the enjoyment of the worldly life compared to the Hereafter is nothing but a little.

Ella tanferuo youazzebkum azaban aleeman wa yastabdil qawman ghaiyrakum wa la tadurruhuo shaiy-an wa Allahu ala kulli shaiy-in qadeer (39).
If you do not go forth, He will punish you with a painful punishment and will replace you with a people other than you and you will not harm Him in anything, and Allah is All-Powerful over everything.

Ella tansuruhuo fa-qad nasarahuo Allahu iz akhrajahuo allazina kafaruo thaniya ethnaiyni iz huma fee alghari iz yaquluo le-sahebehi la tahzan inna Allaha ma-ana fa-anzala Allahu sakeenatahuo alaiyhi wa ayyadahuo be-junudin lam tarawha wa ja-ala kalemata allazina kafaru alsufla wa kalematuo Allahi heiya al-aulya wa Allahu Azeezon Hakeem (40).
If you do not help Him, then indeed, Allah has already helped Him when those who disbelieved had expelled Him, the second of two, when they both were in the Cave and He said to His companion Do not grieve, indeed, Allah is with Us, and Allah sent down His tranquility upon Him, and supported Him with soldiers whom you did not see, and made the word of those who disbelieved is the lowest while the word of Allah is the highest, and Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.

Enferuo khefafan wa theqalan wa jaheduo be-amwalekum wa anfusekum fee sabeeli ellahi zalekum khaiyrun lakum in kuntum ta'lamuon (41).
Go forth, whether light or heavy, and strive with your wealth and your lives in the way of Allah, that is better for you if you know.

Has it been a near gain and an easy journey, they would have followed You, but the distance was far for them, and they will swear by Allah if we were able, we would have come forth with you, they destroy themselves, and Allah knows that they are liars.

Afa Allahu anka lema azenta lahum hatta yatabayyana laka allazina sadaquo wa ta'lama alkazebeen (43).
May Allah pardon You, Why did you have permitted them until it was clear to you those who were truthful and You know the liars.

La yasta'zenuka allazina you'menuona be-llahi wa alyawmi al-akheri an youjaheduo be-amwalehim wa anfusehim wa Allahu Aleemun bel-muttaqeen (44).
Those who believe in Allah and the Last Day do not ask Your permission to be excluded from striving with their wealth and their lives, and Allah is All-Knower of the righteous.

Innama yasta'zenuka allazina la you'menuona be-llahi wa alyawmi al-akheri wa-rtabat qulubuhum fa-hum fee raiybehim yataraddaduon (45).
Only those who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day, and whose hearts have doubted would ask Your permission, and they in their doubt are hesitating.

Wa laww araduo alkhuruja la-a-adduo lahu auddatan wa laken kareha Allahu enbe-athahum fa-thabbatahum wa qeela auq-uduo ma-a alqa-edeen (46).
And if they had intended to come forth, they would have prepared for it a preparation, but Allah dislikes their being sent, so He kept them back and it was said Remain with those who sit.

Wa laww kharajuo feekum ma zadukum ella khabalan wa la-awda-u khelalakum yabghunakumuo alfetnata wa feekum samma-uona lahum wa Allahu Aleemun bel-zalemeen (47).
Had they come forth with you, they would not have increased you except in disorder, and they would have been active among you, seeking trial for you, and among you there are listeners to them, and Allah is All-Knower of the wrongdoers.

La-qadi ebtaghawwu alfetnata men qabluo wa qallabuo laka al-aumura hatta ja-a alhaqquo wa zahara amruo Allahi wa hum karehuon (48).
They had already desired the trial before, and had upset the matters for you until the truth has come and the ordinance of Allah has appeared while there were averse.

Wa menhum man yaquluo e'zan lee wa la taftenni ala fee alfetnati saqatuo wa inna jahannama la-muhitatun bel-kafereen (49).
And among them is he who says Permit me, and Do not put me to a trial, unquestionably, into the trial they have fallen, and indeed, Hellfire will surely surround the disbelievers.

In tusebka hasanatun tasu'hum wa in tusebka musebatun yaquluo qad akhazna amrana men qabluo wa yatawallaww wa hum farehuon (50).
If good befalls You, it distresses them, but if a calamity befalls You, they say indeed, we took our matter before, and turn away while they are rejoicing.

Qul lan yousebana ella ma kataba Allahu lana huwa mawlana wa ala Allahi fal-yatawakkali almu'menuon (51).
Say never will we be afflicted except by what Allah has decreed for us, He is our Protector, and upon Allah let the believers put their trust.

Qul hal tarabbasuona bena ella ehda alhusnayayni wa nahnuo natarabbasuo bekum am yousebakumuo Allahu be-azabin men endehi aww be-aiydeena fa-tarabbasuo inna ma-akum mutarabbesuon (52).
Say Do you await for us except one of the two good things while we await for you that Allah will afflict you with punishment from Himself or at our hands?, so Wait, indeed, we are with you among those who wait.

Qul anfequo taw-an aww karhan lan youtaqabbala menkum innakum kuntum qawman faseqeen (53).
Say Spend willingly or unwillingly, never will it be accepted from you, indeed, you have been a disobedient people.

Wa ma mana-ahum an tuqbala menhum nafaqatuhum ella annahum kafaruo be-llahi wa be-rasulehi wa la ya'tuona alsalata ella wa hum kusala wa la younfequona ella wa hum karehuon (54).
And what prevents their expenditures from being accepted from them except that they have disbelieved in Allah and in His Messenger, and they do not come to the prayer except while they are lazy, and they do not spend except while they are unwilling.

Fa-la tu'jebka amwaluhum wa la awladuhum innama youreduo Allahu le-you-azzebahum beha fee alhayati alduonya wa tazhaqa anfusuhum wa hum kaferuon (55).
So Let not their wealth or their children admire You, Allah only intends to punish them through them in the worldly life, and that their souls should depart while they are disbelievers.

Wa yahelfuona be-llahi innahum la menkum wa ma hum menkum wa lakennahum qawmun yafraquon (56).
And they swear by Allah that they are from among you while they are not from among you, but they are a people who are afraid.

Laww yajeduona malja-an aww magharatin aww muddakhalan la-wallaww elaiyhi wa hum yajmahuon (57).
If they could find a refuge or caves or a place to enter, they would turn away to it while they are running.

Wa menhum man yalmezuka fee alsadaqati fa-in au'tuo menha raduo wa in lam you'taww menha iza hum yaskhatuon (58).
And among them are some who criticize You concerning the charities, if they are given from them, they are satisfied, but if they are not given from them, behold! They are displeased.

Wa laww annahum raduo ma atahumuo Allahu wa rasuluhuo wa qaluo hasbuna Allahu sa-you'teena Allahu men fadlehi wa rasuluhuo inna ela Allahi raghebuon (59).
If only they had been satisfied with what Allah and His Messenger gave them, and said Allah is Sufficient for us, Allah will give us from His bounty and His Messenger, indeed, to Allah we are turning desirous.

Innama alsadaqatuo lel-fuqara-e wa almasakeeni wa al-ameleena alaiyha wa almu-allafati qulubuhum wa fee alreqabi wa algharemeena wa fee sabeeli ellahi wa-bni alsabeeli fareedatan mena Allahi wa Allahu Aleemun Hakeem (60).
The charities are only for the poor, and the needy, and those employed to collect them, and those whose hearts are brought together, and in the necks and those in debt, and in the way of Allah, and the wayfarer, an obligation from Allah, and Allah is All-knower, All-Wise.

Wa menhumuo allazina you'zuona alnabiyya wa yaquluona huwa auzunun qul huwa auzunuo khaiyrin lakum you'menuo be-llahi wa you'menuo lel-mu'meneena wa rahmatun le-llazina amanuo menkum wa allazina you'zuna rasula Allahi lahum azabun aleem (61).
And among them are those who hurt the Prophet and say He is an ear, Say an ear of goodness for you that He believes in Allah and believes the believers, and a mercy to those who believe among you, and those who hurt the Messenger of Allah, for them there is a painful punishment.

Yahelfuona be-llahi lakum le-yurdukum wa Allahu wa rasuluhu ahaqquo an yurduhuo in kanuo mu'meneen (62).
They swear by Allah to you so that they may please you, but Allah and His Messenger have more right that they should please Him, if they are believers.

Alam ya'lamuo annahuo man youhadidi ellaha wa rasulahu fa-anna lahuo nara jahannama khaledan feeha zaleka alkhezyou al-azeem (63).
Do they not know that whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger, then, for Him there is the fire of Hellfire, abiding therein forever, that is the great disgrace.

Yahzaruo almunafequona an tunazzala alaiyhim suratun tunabbe-uhum be-ma fee qulubehim quli estahze-uo inna Allaha mukhrejun ma tahzaruon (64).
The hypocrites are afraid lest a Surah be sent down about them, informing them of what is in their hearts, Say Ridicule, indeed, Allah will bring out what you are afraid of.

Wa la-in sa-altahum la-yaqulunna innama kunna nakhuduo wa nal-abuo qul a-be-llahi wa ayatehi wa rasulehi kuntum tastahzeuon (65).
And if You ask them, they will surely say we were only conversing vainly and playing, Say Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were ridiculing.

La ta'tazeruo qad kafartum ba'da emanekum in na'fuo an ta-efatin menkum nuo'azzib ta-efatan be-annahum kanuo mujremeen (66).
Do not make excuse, you have disbelieved after your belief, if We pardon a group of you, We will punish another group because they were criminals.

The hypocrite men and the hypocrite women are of one another, they enjoin the wrong, and forbid from the right, and close their hands, they forgot Allah, so He forgot them, indeed, the hypocrites are the disobedient.

Wa-ada Allahu almunafeqeena wa almunafeqati wa alkuffara nara jahannama khaledeena feeha heiya hasbuhum wa la-anahumuo Allahu wa lahum azabun muqeem (68).
Allah has promised the hypocrites men and the hypocrites women and the disbelievers the fire of Hellfire, abiding therein forever, it is sufficient for them, and Allah has cursed them and for them there is a constant punishment.

Ka-llazina men qablekum kanuo ashadda menkum quwwatan wa akthara amwalan wa awladan fa-stamta-uo be-khalaqehim fa-stamta'tum be-khalaqekum kama estamta-a allazina men qablekum be-khalaqehim wa khudtum ka-llazi khaduo aulaeka habetat a'maluhum fee alduonya wa al-akherati wa aulaeka humuo alkhaseruon (69).
Like those before you, they were greater than you in might and more in wealth and children, so they enjoyed their portion, and you have enjoyed your portion as those before you enjoyed their portion, and you have indulged like that in which they indulged,  those, their deeds were nullified in the world, and in the Hereafter, and those are the losers.

Has there not come to them the news of those before them, the people of Noah, and Ad, and Thamud, and the people of Abraham, and the companions of Madyan, and Almu'tafekat?, their Messengers came to them with clear proofs, so Allah was not to wrong them, but they were wronging themselves.

And the believing men and the believing women are allies of one another, they enjoin the right and forbid from the wrong and establish the prayer and give the Zakah and obey Allah and His Messenger, those, Allah will have mercy upon them, indeed, Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.

Simplified interpretation:

Surat Altawbah is the only Surah of the Holy Quran that was revealed without Albasmalah at its beginning, which is the saying Besmi Ellahi Alrhmani Alraheem: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. And it was called the scandalous Surah because it exposed the hypocrites who showed faith in Allah Almighty and His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH), and concealed disbelief and intended evil towards Allah's Messenger and the believers, where as narrated by Sa'id bin Jubair: "I said to Ibn Abbas What about Surat Altawbah?, whereupon, he said as for Surat Altawbah it is the scandalous one, it continues to be revealed, and among them...., and among them...., until they thought that it would not leave anyone of them except mentioned therein, I again said What about Surat Alanfal?, he said it was revealed about the Battle of Badr, I again asked him about Surat Alhashr, he said it was revealed in connection with Banu Alnadir" (Sahih Muslim 3031).

Allah Almighty says in the first two verses (1,2) "Disavowing from Allah and His Messenger to those with whom you have taken a covenant among the polytheists, so Travel freely throughout the land for four months, but know that you cannot cause failure to Allah, and that Allah will disgrace the disbelievers", that is, Allah declares that He and His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) disavow the polytheists of Quraish with whom Allah's Messenger had taken absolute covenants which are not limited to a specific term, but as for those who have covenants of a specific term and they did not break their covenant or support others against the Muslims, then their covenants will be completed to their term as will come later in Aya (4). So Allah set a term of four months for the polytheists who have unlimited covenants, or those who have covenants less than four months, so they are permitted to travel freely throughout the earth, wherever they go, they are safe during the four months, and their term begins from the tenth of Dhul-Hijja as mentioned in Aya (3), Muharram month, Safar month, Rabi' Alawwal month, until the tenth of Rabi' Althani, then after their term passed, they will be killed wherever they are caught unless they repent, testify that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, establish the prayer, and give the Zakah (Obligatory charity). Then Allah addresses the polytheists and assures them that they can not cause failure on the earth nor can they escape from Allah's authority, and that Allah will disgrace the disbelievers and make them taste the disgrace and afflictions in the worldly life and the Hereafter.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (3,4) "And an announcement from Allah and His Messenger to the people on the day of the greater pilgrimage that Allah is disavowing from the polytheists, and so is His Messenger, so if you repent, that is better for you, but if you turn away, then Know that you will not cause failure to Allah, and Give tidings to those who disbelieve of a painful punishment, except those with whom you have taken a covenant among the polytheists, and then they have not been deficient towards you in anything, or supported anyone against you, so Complete for them their covenant until their term, indeed, Allah loves the righteous", that is, Allah ordered the Muslims to announce the polytheists of Quraish on the day of the greater pilgrimage (Alhajj Alakbar), which is the tenth of Dhul-Hijja, the Day of Nahr, and the Day of Eid Al-Adha, where as narrated by Ali: "I asked Allah's Messenger about the day of Alhajj Alakbar, and He said the day of Nahr" (Jami' Altirmidhi 3088), that Allah and His Messenger are disavowing the polytheists, thereupon, the term of four months that Allah has set for them began from that day till the tenth of Rabi' Althani month, and after their term ends, their blood will be shed unless they repent from polytheism, and that is better for them in the worldly life and the Hereafter, so they will be saved from killing in the worldly life, and will be saved from Hellfire in the Hereafter, and then Allah threatens them and says if you turn away from belief and refuse to acknowledge Allah's oneness, then know that you can not cause failure on the earth nor can you escape from Allah's authority, and Allah ordered His Messenger to give them tidings of a painful torment that will befall them in the worldly life and the Hereafter, accordingly, Allah's Messenger has sent Ali bin Abi Talib to the polytheists of Quraish on the Day of greater Hajj, and ordered Him to recite upon them Surat Bara'a (Altawbah), where as narrated by Humaid bin Abdul-rahman: "Abu Hurayrah said Abu Bakr sent me in that Hajj in which he was the chief of the pilgrims along with the announcers whom he sent on the Day of Nahr (10th of Dhul-Hijja) to announce at Mina No pagan shall perform Hajj after this year, and none shall perform the Tawaf around the Ka'ba in a naked state, Humaid added that the Prophet (PBUH) sent Ali bin Abi Talib after Abu Bakr and ordered him to recite aloud in public Surat Bara'a (Altawbah), Abu Hurayrah added so Ali along with us recited Bara'a before the people at Mina on the Day of Nahr and announced No pagan shall perform Hajj after this year and none shall perform Tawaf around the Ka'ba in a naked state" (Sahih Albukhari 4656). But Allah has made an exception for those with whom Allah's Messenger had made a covenant, and they were steadfast in fulfilling their covenant, so they did not break their covenant, nor did they miss any of the conditions of their covenant, nor did they support Muslim's enemy with men, horses, or weapons, so Allah commanded the Muslims to fulfill their covenant and not to wage war against them until the end of their covenant, and Allah assures that He loves the righteous who fear Allah and fear His punishment by obeying His commands and avoiding His prohibitions. And Allah's Messenger said in narration of Abdullah bi Amro: "Whoever killed a person having a treaty with the Muslims, shall not smell the smell of Paradise though its smell is perceived from a distance of forty years" (Sahih Albukhari 3166).

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (5) "And when the sacred months have passed, then Kill the polytheists wherever you find them, and Seize them, and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush, but if they repent, and establish the prayer and give the Zakah, then let them on their way, indeed, Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful", that is, Allah addresses the Muslims and says when the four months in which Allah has forbidden you from fighting the polytheists have passed, starting from tenth of Dhul-Hijja till tenth of Rabi' Althani, so whenever you find them, Kill them except at the Sacred Mosque (Almasjid Alharam) for Allah says in Aya (191) of Surat Albaqarah ''And Do not fight them at Almasjid Alharam until they fight you there", Take them captives if you wish, and Do not satisfied with just finding them, but rather Target them by besieging their fortresses, and Monitor their roads and paths until you narrow it upon them, and force them to fight or to convert to Islam. But if they repent from associating idols with Allah, denying Allah's oneness and the Prophecy of His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH), so they acknowledge the Monotheism of Allah and worship Him alone with no partner, believe in Allah's Messenger, establish the prayers in its prescribed times, and give the Zakah (Obligatory charity), then the obligation to kill them ends with their repentance from polytheism, and their acceptance of Islam, thereupon, Allah ordered the Muslims to let them on their way, and release them, indeed, Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful for those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds. Allah has linked belief in Him and His Messenger with performing the prayers, and paying the Zakah as a condition for anyone to accept his faith, and Allah's Messenger said in narration of Abdullah bin Umar: "I have been commanded to fight against the people till they testify that there is no God but Allah, that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and they establish the prayer, and pay the Zakah, and if they do that, their blood and their property are guaranteed protection on My behalf except by its right, and their reckoning is upon Allah" (Sahih Muslim 22).

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (6) "And if anyone of the polytheists seeks your protection, then grant him protection so that he may hear the words of Allah, then Deliver him to his place of safety, that is because they are a people who do not know", that is, Allah addresses His Messenger Muhammad saying if anyone of the polytheists whom I commanded you to fight seeks protection from You, so Respond to him and grant him protection so that he may hear the Holy Quran, so he understands its rulings, commands, and prohibitions, and the matter of the religion by which Allah's argument will be established against him, so he is safe even if he did not believe, and he will be continue to be safe until he returns to his place of safety and join his people, that is because they are a people who do not know, thereupon, Allah legislated the protection of such people so that they might know the religion of Allah, and then return to their people and tell them about the religion of Islam.

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (7) "How can there be for the polytheists a covenant with Allah and with His Messenger except for those with whom you have taken a covenant at the Sacred Mosque?, so as long as they are upright towards you, Be upright towards them, indeed, Allah loves the righteous", that is, Allah says How can the polytheists have a covenant of protection with Allah and His Messenger that will be fulfilled for them and by which they will be left safe to roam the land?, assuredly, they have no covenant, and the Muslims are obligated to kill them whenever they find them after the end of the four months, except those with whom the Muslims have taken a covenant at the Sacred Mosque (Almasjid Alharam), Allah had ordered the Muslims to fulfill their covenant to them as long as they do not break their covenant and they remain steadfast to it, and Allah loves the righteous who fear Allah and fear His punishment by obeying His commands and avoiding His prohibitions.

Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (8-10) "How, while if they overcome you, they do not observe any tie of kinship with you or covenant of protection?, they please you with their mouths, but their hearts refuse, and most of them are disobedient, they have exchanged the verses of Allah for a small price, and prevented from His way, indeed, evil is what they used to do, they do not observe towards a believer any ties of kinship or covenant of protection, and those are the aggressors", that is, Allah assures that the polytheists do not deserve to have a covenant due to their polytheism and disbelief, for if they overcome the Muslims and have authority over them, they will not observe any tie of kinship between them or adhere to the covenant of protection they had given them, and they please the Muslims with their mouths as they say to them with their tongues the opposite of the hostility and hatred they carry towards them in their souls, and their hearts refuse to submit and believe, and most of them are disobedient to Allah, and they turned away from following the truth when it came to them, exchanged the verses of Allah for a small price for they were distracted by the enjoyment of the worldly life and preferred it over the bliss of the Hereafter, and they prevented others from the way of Allah, so evil is what they used to do of exchanging guidance for misguidance, and preventing people from embracing the religion of Islam. Then Allah assures again that they are not worthy of any covenant with the Muslims because they will quickly break their covenant if they gain control over the believers, so they will not observe any tie of kinship between them nor will they adhere to any covenant between them, and most of them are the aggressors and the tyrants who transgress the limits of Allah by breaking their covenants.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (11,12) "But if they repent, and establish the prayer and give the Zakah, then they are your brothers in religion, and We detail the verses for a people who know, and if they break their oaths after their covenant and defame your religion, then Fight the leaders of disbelief, for indeed, there are no oaths for them, so that they may cease", that is, if the polytheists repented from associating idols with Allah, denying Allah's oneness and the Prophecy of His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH), so they acknowledged the Monotheism of Allah and worshipped Him alone with no partner, believed in Allah's Messenger, established the prayers in its prescribed times, and gave the Zakah (Obligatory charity), then the obligation to kill them ends with their repentance from polytheism, and their acceptance of Islam, so they are your brothers in the religion of Islam, and Allah details the verses for a people who know because they will be admonished by it, follow it, and act according it. Then Allah addresses the Muslims and says if the polytheists with whom you have a covenant for a certain period of time broke their oaths after their covenant with you, and defamed and insulted your religion, then Fight the leaders of disbelief for indeed, there are no oaths for them because they do not fulfill them, so that they may desist and turn away from what they are in of disbelief and misguidance.

Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (13-15) "Would you not fight a people who broke their oaths and determined to expel the Messenger, and they had begun you the first time?, Do you fear them?, but Allah has more right that you should fear Him, if you are believers, Fight them, Allah will punish them by your hands, and will disgrace them, and will help you over them and will heal the breasts of a believing people, and will remove the rage of their hearts, and Allah will turn  to whom He wills, and Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise", that is, Allah urges the Muslims to fight the polytheists and and explains to them that the polytheists have no covenants and no security as the treachery is in their nature saying Would you not fight a people who broke the peace treaty of Alhudaiybeyah when they helped Banu Bakr tribe to fight Khuza'ah tribe, the allies of Allah's Messenger and determined to expel the Messenger of Allah from Mecca, where the polytheists of Quraish were planning to imprison Him, kill Him, or expel Him from Mecca in the year of Hijrah as mentioned in Aya (30) of Surat Alanfal, but Allah commanded Him to emigrate from Mecca to Medina, and they started against the Muslims the first time when they went out to fight the Muslims on the day of the Battle of Badr, Do you fear them and fear that harm will befall you in fighting them, while Allah has more right that you should fear Him if you are believers, so Fear His punishment if you disobeyed Him. Then Allah gives the believers the glad tidings of victory over their enemies, and He commanded them to fright the polytheists, and He will punish them by their hands through killing, will disgrace and humiliate them through captivity and oppression, and will heal the disease in the hearts of those who believe in Him and His Messenger by killing and humiliating the polytheists by their own hands, where their hearts were filled with sadness, anger, and rage because of the harm and the hatred the polytheists were inflicting on them, so Allah will remove the rage of their hearts, and Allah will bestow His favor and turn in mercy and forgiveness upon whom He wills from among the polytheists, and Allah is All-Knower of your affairs as nothing is hidden from Him in the heavens or on the earth, the All-Wise who manages His creation with wisdom in His laws and destiny, so He chooses the most appropriate for you.

Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (16-18) "Do you think that you be left while Allah has not yet made evident those among you who strive and do not take other than Allah, nor His Messenger, nor the believers as allies, and Allah is All-Aware of what you do, it is not for the polytheists to maintain the mosques of Allah, witnessing against themselves with disbelief, those, their deeds were nullified, and in the fire, they will abide forever, the mosques of Allah are only to be maintained by he who believes in Allah, and the last Day, and establishes the prayer, and gives the Zakah and does not fear except Allah, then perhaps that those will be of the guided", that is, Allah has prescribed Jihad (Fighting in His way) in order to test His servants as to who would obey Him and who would disobey Him, so He addresses the believers and says Do you think that We will leave you without a test with matters by which We will distinguish the people of sincere belief and determination from the liars, those who strive in His way from those who neglect Jihad in His way, and those who do not take other than Allah, His Messenger, and the believers allies from among the polytheists, so they do not reveal the secrets of the Muslims to them nor do they inform them of their affairs, from those who take allies other than Allah, His Messengers, and the believers, and Allah is All-Aware of what His servants do of good or evil, and nothing of their deeds is hidden from HimAllah assures that it is not appropriate for the polytheists to maintain the mosques of Allah, so they should not take care of them, or serve their visitors, and in particular it is not for them to maintain the Sacred Mosque (Almasjid Alharam), the most honorable Mosque on the earth which was built from the first day on the worship of Allah alone with no partner, not for disbelief in it, and Allah forbade them from entering Almasjid Alharam as will come later in Aya (28), so the polytheists of Quraish who disbelieve in Allah should not enter Almasjid Alharam while they witnessing against themselves with disbelief, so their deeds were nullified and have become worthless due to their disbelief, and they will enter Hellfire in the Hereafter, abiding therein forever. The maintenance of the mosques of Allah will not benefit with disbelief, but rather through belief, worship, and obedience, so Allah affirms that the mosques of Allah are only to be maintained by those who believe in the Oneness of Allah and whose worship is sincere to Him, believe in the resurrection and that Allah will raise the dead from their graves on the day of resurrection, establish the prayer in its prescribed times, pay the obligatory charity (Zakah), and do not fear the punishment of anyone except Allah, then Allah assures that it is appropriate for those who have these characteristics to be among the guided whom Allah has guided to the right path, and to doing what is good and avoiding what is evil.

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (19) "Have you made the providing of water for the pilgrims and the maintenance of the Sacred Mosque equal to the one who believes in Allah and the last Day and strives in the way of Allah?, they are not equal in the sight of Allah, and Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people", that is, Allah assures the polytheists that providing water for the pilgrims, and the maintenance of Almasjid Alharam are of no use with polytheism, and it will not avail them in anything from Allah's punishment, so the one who provides water for the pilgrims and maintains Almasjid Alharam while he is a polytheist is not equal in the sight of Allah to the one who believes in the Oneness of Allah, believes in the day of resurrection, and strives in the way of Allah with His life and his wealth, and Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people who wronged themselves with disbelief, tyranny, and stubbornness even if they provided water for the pilgrims and took care of the Sacred Mosque. And Allah has stipulated the superiority of Jihad over providing water for the pilgrims and taking care of Almasjid Alharam, where as narrated by Alnu'man bin Basheer: "As I was sitting near the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah, a man said I do not care if, after embracing Islam, I do not do any good deed except providing of water for the pilgrim, another said I do not care if, after embracing Islam, I do not do any good deed beyond maintenance service to the Sacred Mosque, another said Jihad in the way of Allah is better than what you have said, Umar reprimanded them and said Don't raise your voices near the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah, and it is Friday, when prayer was over, I will enter and ask His verdict about the matter in which you had differed, so Allah has revealed Have you made the providing of water for the pilgrim and the maintenance of the Sacred Mosque equal to the one who believes in Allah and the last Day and strives in the way of Allah?, they are not equal in the sight of Allah, and Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people" (Sahih Muslim 1879). And Allah's Messenger said in narration of Anas bin Malik: "Leaving for Jihad in the way of Allah in the morning or in the evening is better than the world and all that is in it" (Sahih Muslim 1880).

Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (20-22) "Those who have believed and emigrated and striven in the way of Allah with their wealth and their lives are greater in degree in the sight of Allah, and those who are the winners, their Lord gives them glad tidings of mercy from Him, and pleasure and gardens for them therein is a constant bliss, abiding therein forever, indeed, Allah has with Him a great reward", that is, Allah assures that those who believed in Him, His Messenger, and the Holy Quran, went out as emigrants (Almuhajereen) in the way of Allah, and left their homelands, families, and friends after they have been wronged for the sake of Allah and His Messenger, and for the support of Allah's religion, and fought the polytheists for the sake of Allah with their wealth and their lives are greater in degree in the sight of Allah than those who provide water for the pilgrims, and take care of Almasjid Alharam, and those are the winners of Paradise in the Hereafter, so Allah gives them the glad tidings of His mercy and His pleasure, so He will have mercy on them, will not punish them, and will be satisfied with them, and that for them there are garden of constant and everlasting bliss, abiding therein forever, and Allah has with Him a great reward which is Paradise.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (23,24) "O you who have believed! Do not take your fathers and your brothers as allies if they have preferred disbelief over belief, and whoever among you takes them as allies, then those who are the wrongdoers, Say if your fathers, and your sons, and your brothers, and your spouses, and your clan and wealth which you have obtained, and trade wherein you fear decline, and dwellings with which you are pleased are more beloved to you than Allah and His Messenger, and striving in His way, then Wait until Allah comes with His command, and Allah does not guide the disobedient people", that is, Allah forbade the believers form taking their fathers and their brother as allies and friends to whom they inform them of the secrets and the news of the Muslims as long as they have preferred disbelief in Allah over belief in Him, and whoever takes them as allies and has affection for them, then those who are the wrongdoing people who disobeyed Allah and opposed His command. Then Allah commanded His Messenger to say to them as a threat, if your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your spouses, your clan, your wealth which you have earned, your trade wherein you fear decline, and dwellings with which you are pleased and in which you like to reside, if all these things are more beloved to you than Allah, and His Messenger, and striving in His way by your wealth and your lives, then wait until the command of Allah comes, and wait for what will befall you of His punishment, and Allah does not guide the disobedient people who disobey Allah's commands, and oppose Him.

Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (25-27) "Allah has given you victory in many places, and on the day of Hunayn, when your great number pleased you, but it did not avail you in anything, and the earth was straitened for you despite its vastness, then you turned back, fleeing, then Allah sent down His tranquility upon His Messenger and upon the believers and sent down soldiers whom you did not see and punished those who disbelieved, and that is the recompense of the disbelievers, then Allah will turn after that for whom He wills, and Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful", that is, Allah reminded the believers with His favor upon them in granting them victory in many places of their battles with Allah's Messenger, and Allah assured them that the victory is from Him and with His support, whether the army was small or large, not by their number nor their equipment, and Allah gave them an example of the battle of Hunayn, and Hunayn is a large valley between Mecca and Alta'if, where on the Day of Hunayn, their great numbers pleased them as they were about twelve thousand with Allah's Messenger, but their number was of no use, and did not avail them in anything, and the earth was straitened for them despite its vastness for fear, so they turned away, fleeing from the battlefield, except for a few of them with the Messenger of Allah (PBUH), where as narrated by Ibn Umar: "Indeed, I saw the Day of Hunayn, and indeed, the two armies fled from the Messenger of Allah, and there did not remain one hundred men with the Messenger of Allah" (Jami' Altirmidhi 1689), and as narrated by Abu Ishaq from Albara' bin Azib: "A man said to us Did you flee from the Messenger of Allah O Abu Umarah?, he said No by Allah! I did not flee from the Messenger of Allah, but some hasty people fled, and the tribe of Huwazin assaulted them with arrows, the Messenger of Allah was on His white mule, and Abu Sufyan bin Alharith bin Abdul-Muttalib was holding its reigns, the Messenger of Allah was saying I am the Prophet without lie, I am the son of Abdul-Muttalib" (Jami' Altirmidhi 1688).

Then Allah has sent down His tranquility upon His Messenger and the believers by which He calmed them and took their fear away until they dared to fight the polytheists after they had turned away, and Allah has sent down the Angels upon the believers in order to strengthen the believers with firmness they throw into their hearts, and cast terrors into the hearts of the disbelievers, and thus, Allah punished and humiliated the disbelievers by killing, captivating them, their wives, and their children, and taking their wealth and properties as spoils, and that is the recompense of the disbelievers who denied Allah's Oneness and opposed His Messenger, then Allah will turn in mercy and forgiveness after the battle of Hunayn for whom He wills from among the polytheists, so he will accept his repentance and guide him to belief in Him and in His Messenger, and Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful for those who repent, belief, and do righteous deeds.

When Allah's Messenger (PBUH) finished the conquest of Mecca, and most of its people converted to Islam, He released them, and called them Altulaqa', then He was informed that Hawazin tribe had gathered to fight Him under the leadership of Malik bin Awf, Thaqif tribe under the leadership of Abd Yalil bin Amro Althaqafi, Ghatfan tribe, and other tribes, and they came with their women, children, money, and livestock, so Allah's Messenger went out to them in His army that had come with Him for the conquest of Mecca, which was ten thousand of Almuhajereen, Alansar, and Arab tribes, in addition to two thousand of Altulaqa' from Mecca who had recently converted to Islam, and He marched towards the enemy, and the two armies met at a valley between Mecca and Alta'if called Hunayn.

And as narrated by Alabbas bin Abdul-Muttalib: "I was in the company of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) on the Day of Hunayn, I and Abu Sufyan bin Alharith bin Abdul-Muttalib stuck to the Messenger of Allah, and we did not separate from Him, and the Messenger of Allah was riding on His white mule which had been presented to Him by Farwa bin Nufatha Aljudhami. When the Muslims had encounter with the disbelievers, the Muslims turned back, fleeing, but the Messenger of Allah began to spur His mule towards the disbelievers, I was holding the bridle of the mule of the Messenger of Allah checking it from going very fast, and Abu Sufyan was holding the stirrup of the mule, then Allah's Messenger said Abbas Call out to the people of Alsamura, Abbas who was a man with a loud voice, said I called out at the top of my voice Where are the people of Alsamura, and he said by Allah! When they heard my voice, they came back as cows come back to their calves, and said we are present, we are present! Abbas said they began to fight the disbelievers, then there was a call to the Ansar, those shouted O you people of the Ansar! O you people of Ansar!, then he said, the call was limited to Banu Alharith bin Alkhazraj, those shouted O Banu Alharith bin Alkhazraj! O Banu Alharith bin Alkhazraj! And the Messenger of Allah who was riding on His mule looked at their fight with His neck stretched forward, and He said this is the time when the fight is raging hot, then the Messenger of Allah took pebbles and threw them in the faces of the disbelievers, then He said By the Lord of Muhammad! they are defeated, Abbas said I went round and saw in the same condition in which I had seen it, By Allah! It remained in the same condition until He threw the pebbles, I continued to watch until I found that their force had been spent out, and they began to retreat" (Sahih Muslim 1775). And the people of Alsamura were the believers who had pledged the allegiance of Alredwan to Allah's Messenger under the Samura tree as mentioned in Aya (18) of Surat Alfath

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) had gained many spoils in the battle of Hunayn, so He distributed the booty amongst those whose hearts have been reconciled to Islam, and those who recently converted to Islam after the conquest of Mecca (Altulaqa'), and there was weakness in their Islam, so Allah's Messengers gave them the booty in order to strengthen their faith, but He did not give anything to the Ansar, where as narrated by Hisham bin Zaid from His grandfather Anas bin Malik: "When it was the Day of Hunayn the tribes of Hawazin and Ghatfan and others along with their animals and offspring came to fight against the Prophet (PBUH), the Prophet had with Him ten thousand men and some of Altulaqa', the companions fled, leaving the Prophet alone. The Prophet then made two calls which were clearly distinguished from each other, He turned right and said O the people of the Ansar! They said Labbaik; at your service, O Messenger of Allah! Rejoice we are with You, then He turned left and said O the People of the Ansar! they said Labbaik; at your service O Messenger of Allah! Rejoice we are with You, the Prophet at that time was riding on a white mule, then He dismounted and said I am Allah's servant and His Messenger, the infidels then were defeated, and on that day the Prophet gained a large amount of booty which he distributed among the emigrants (Almuhajereen), and Altulaqa', and did not give anything to the Ansar. The Ansar said when there is a difficulty we are called, but the booty is given to other than us, the news reached the Prophet, and He gathered them in a leather tent, and said What is this news reaching Me from you O the People of Ansar?, they kept silent, He added O the People of the Ansar! Won't you be happy that the people take the worldly things, and you take Allah's Messenger to your homes reserving Him for yourself?, they said yes, then the Prophet said If the people took their way through a valley, and the Ansar took their way through a mountain pass, I would surely take the mountain pass of the Ansar" Hisham asked His grandfather Anas bin Malik saying O Abu Hamza Did you witness that?, He replied and How could I be absent from it?" (Sahih Albukhari 4337).

And as narrated by Abdullah bin Mas'ud: "On the day of Hunayn, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) preferred some people in the distribution of the spoils, so He gave Alaqra' bin Habis one hundred camels, gave Uyainah the same amount, and gave some people from the noblest of the Arabs, and preferred them on that day, then a man said by Allah! This is a distribution in which there has been no justice nor has the pleasure of Allah been thought in it, I said by Allah! I will certainly inform the Messenger of Allah about it, I came to Him and informed Him about what he had said, the colour of His face changed red like blood and He then said Who would do justice, if Allah and His Messenger do not do Justice?, He further said May Allah have mercy upon Moses, He was harmed more than this, but He showed patience, I said assuredly, never would I convey Him after this any statement" (Sahih Muslim 1062).

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (28) "O you who have believed! Indeed, the polytheists are unclean, so let them not approach the Sacred Mosque after this year of theirs, and if you fear poverty, Allah will enrich you from His bounty if He wills, indeed, Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise", that is, Allah informed the believers that the polytheists are impure due to their polytheism, so they are impure in religion and body, but the believer is not impure even if he is in a state of sexual impurity (Junub), where as narrated by Abu Hurayrah: "The Prophet (PBUH) came across me in one of the streets of Medina and at that time I was Junub, so I slipped away from Him, and went to take a bath, on my return the Prophet said O Abu Hurayrah! Where have you been?, I replied I was Junub, so I disliked to sit in Your company, the Prophet said Subhana Allah! Glory to be Allah, a believer never becomes impure" (Sahih Albukhari 283), so Allah commanded the believers to prevent the polytheists from approaching Almasjid Alharam (Sacred Mosque) after this year of theirs, which is the ninth year of Hijrah (9 AH) when Abu Bakr and Ali, Peace be upon both of them, preformed Hajj, and Allah's Messenger performed the Farewell Hajj next year, and He did not perform Hajj before or after it, so He commanded Abu Bakr to announce the polytheists of Allah's command, where as narrated by Humaid bin Abdul-rahman: "Abu Hurayrah said Abu Bakr sent me in that Hajj in which he was the chief of the pilgrims along with the announcers whom he sent on the Day of Nahr (10th of Dhul-Hijja) to announce at Mina No pagan shall perform Hajj after this year, and none shall perform the Tawaf around the Ka'ba in a naked state" (Sahih Albukhari 4656), and Abu Hurayrah said in another narration that no pagan performed the Hajj in the year of Hajjat Alwada' (Farewell Hajj) of the Messenger of Allah" (Sahih Albukhari 3177). Then Allah reassured the believers and says if you fear poverty, Allah will enrich you from His bounty if He wills, where the polytheists used to came to perform hajj around the Ka'bah and bring food for trade and sell it to them, but Allah promised them that He will enrich them, and Allah is All-Knower of your affairs as nothing is hidden from Him in the heavens or on the earth, the All-Wise who manages His creation with wisdom in His laws and destiny, so He chooses the most appropriate for you.

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (29) "Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day, and who do not forbid what Allah and His Messenger have forbidden, and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the book until they give the Jizyah in humiliation while they are despised", that is, Allah commanded the believers to fight those who do not believe in Allah nor in the day of resurrection, who do not prohibit what Allah and His Messenger have prohibited, and who do not adopt the religion of truth, so they do not obey Allah with the obedience of truth from among the Jews and the Christians who were given the book in which there was glad tidings of the prophethood of Muhammad (PBUH), but when Allah has sent Him to them, they denied and opposed Him, so when they disbelieved in the Prophet Muhammad, they did not have any true belief in Allah, nor in any of the Messengers, nor in what they came with; Because if they had a true belief in their book, that would have led them to believe in the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), thereupon, Allah commanded the believers to fight them until they give the Jizyah in humiliation while they are despised if they did not come to the command of Allah in submission, and Jizyah is a tax taken from Non-Muslims to ransom themselves from being killed in exchange for their residence under Muslims' guardianship, and Allah's Messenger had taken the Jizyah from all Non-Muslims, whether they were Jews, Christians, or pagans, where Amr bin Dinar said that Umar bin Alkhattab did not take the Jizyah from the Magian infidels till Abul-Rahman bin Awf testified that Allah's Messenger had taken the Jizyah from the Magians of Hajar (Sahih Albukhari 3156).

And as narrated by Sulaiman bin Buraida from His father that when the Messenger of Allah appointed anyone as a leader of any army or detachment He would especially exhort him to fear Allah, and to do good to the Muslims who were with him, He would say: "Fight in the Name of Allah, and in the way of Allah, Fight against those who disbelieve in Allah, Make a holy war, Do not embezzle the spoils, Do not break your pledge, and Do not mutilate the dead bodies, Do not kill the children, when you meet your enemies who are polytheists, Invite them to three courses of action. If they responded to any one of these, you also accept it and withhold yourself from doing them any harm, Invite them to Islam, if they responded to you, Accept it from them and desist from fighting against them, then Invite them to emigrate from their lands to the land of the emigrants (The Muhajireen) and inform them that if they do so, they shall have all the privileges and obligations of Almuhajereen, if they refuse to migrate, tell them that they will have the status of Bedouins Muslims, and will subjected to the commands of Allah like other Muslims, but they will not get any share from the spoils of war of Fai' except when they actually fight with the Muslims (against the disbelievers). If they refuse to accept Islam, Demand from them the Jizyah, if they agree to pay, Accept it from them and Hold off your hands, if they refused to pay the Jizyah, Seek Allah's help and Fight them, when you lay siege to a fort and the besieged appeal to you for protection in the Name of Allah and His Prophet, Do not accord to them the guarantee of Allah and His Prophet, but Accord to them your own guarantee and the guarantee of your companions for it is a lesser sin that the security given by you or your companions be disregarded than that the security granted in the Name of Allah and His Prophet be violated, when you besiege a fort and the besieged want you to let them out in accordance with Allah's command, Do not let them come out in accordance with His command, but Do so at your command for you do not know whether or not you will be able to carry out Allah's command with regard to them" (Sahih Muslim 1731).

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (30,31) "The Jews say Ezra is the son of Allah, and the Christians say the Messiah is the son of Allah, that is their saying from their mouths, they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before, May Allah destroy them, How are they being turned away?, they have taken their rabbis and monks as lords besides Allah, and the Messiah, the son of Mary, and they were not commanded except to worship one God, there is no God but He, Glory to be Him above what they associate'', that is, Allah affirms the disbelief of those who claimed that Allah has a son, where the Jews claimed that their Messenger Ezra is the son of Allah, and the Christians claimed that the Juses is the son of Allah, and they have no proof of their heinous statement that they uttered except they imitate the saying of the polytheists before who claimed that the Angels are the daughters of Allah, so Allah cursed them, how they are led astray and diverted from guidance to error. Then Allah assures that the Jews and the Christians have taken their rabbis and their monks as lords besides Allah as they obeyed them blindly, and followed their footsteps if they permitted what Allah has forbidden, or forbade what Allah has permitted and that was their worship of them, and the Christians have taken the Messiah, the son of Mary as a lord besides Allah while they were not commanded except to worship one god, who is Allah, there is not God but He, and He is the One to whom is the worship of everything, and the obedience of All creation, so Allah glorifies Himself and says Glory to be Him above what they associate with Him of the rabbis, the monks, and the Messiah.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (32,33) "They want to extinguish the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah refuses except to perfect His light even though the disbelievers dislike, He is the One who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to make it prevail over all religion even though the polytheists dislike", that is, Allah assures that the polytheists who take their rabbis, their monks, and the Messiah as lords besides Allah want to extinguish the light of Allah with which He has sent His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) and intend to invalidate it with their mouths, but it is impossible for them to do so, for Allah refuses except His light to be perfected, His religion to be exalted, His words to be made clear, and the truth with which He has sent His Messenger to be perfected even though the disbelievers dislike, thereupon, Allah is the One who has sent His Messenger Muhammad with guidance and Islam which is the religion of the truth, and He will make it prevail over every religion other than it even though the polytheists dislike, and at the end of time, when Juses, the son of Mary, will descend, the religion will become one and there will be no religion other than Islam, and this will remain as Allah destined and willed to happen, then the people will return to the religion of their forefathers, where as narrated by Aisha: "I heard Allah's Messenger (PBUH) as saying the night and the day will not end until the Lat and Uzza will be worshipped, I said Allah's Messenger! I think when Allah has revealed He is the One who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to make it prevail over all religion even though the polytheists dislike, that it is going to be fulfilled, thereupon, He said it will happen as long as Allah wills, then Allah will send the good wind by which everyone who has even a weight of mustard grain of faith in his heart will die, until there will remain those in whom there is no good, and they will return to the religion of their fathers" (Sahih Muslim 2907).

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (34,35) "O you who have believed! Indeed, many of the rabbis and the monks devour the wealth of the people unjustly, and prevent from the way of Allah, and those who hoard gold and silver and do not spend it in the way of Allah, Give them tidings of a painful punishment, the day when it will be heated in the fire of Hellfire, and their foreheads, and their sides, and their backs will be cauterized thereby, this is what you hoarded for yourselves, so Taste what you used to hoard", that is, Allah addresses the believers and assures them that many of the rabbis of the Jews, and the monks of the Christians eat people's money under the pretext of the religion, and they exploit their position and leadership among the people to achieve that, so they used to take taxes and gifts in the name of protecting the religion and upholding the law, and when Allah has sent His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH), they continued in their misguidance, and prevented the people from the way of Allah and from following Him, hoping to keep their leadership among the people. Then Allah threatens those who hoard gold and silver, so they do not pay the Zakah (Obligatory charity) imposed on gold and silver, and do not spend in the way of Allah with the painful punishment in Hellfire on the day of resurrection. And this threat is general in the people of the scriptures and the Muslims, where as narrated by Abu Hurayrah: "Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said the treasure of anyone of you (Money, silver, or gold on which Zakah is not paid) will appear in the form of bald-headed poisonous snake on the day of resurrection" (Sahih Albukhari 4659), and as narrated by Zaid bin Wahab: "I passed by a place called Alrubadha, and by chance I met Abu Dhar Alghefari, and asked him What has brought you to this place?, he said I was in Sham and differed with Mu'awiya on "And those who hoard gold and silver and do not spend it in the way of Allah", Mu'awiya said this verse is revealed regarding the people of the scriptures, I said it was regarding us, and also the people of the scriptures, so we had a quarrel and Mu'awiya sent a complaint against me to Uthman. Uthman wrote to me to come to Medina, and I came to Medina, many people came to me as if they had not seen me before, so I told this to Uthman who said to me you may depart and live nearby if you wish, that was the reason for my being here even if an Ethiopian had been nominated as my ruler, I would have obeyed him" (Sahih Albukhari 1406).

But if the Muslim paid the obligatory charity (Zakah) imposed on His wealth, then he will be saved from Allah's punishment that He has prepared for those who hoard the gold and the silver, where as narrated by Khalid bin Aslam: "We went out with Abdullah bin Umar, and a Bedouin said to Abdullah Tell me about Allah's saying "And those who hoard gold and silver and do not spend it in the way of Allah", Ibn Umar said whoever hoarded them and did not pay the Zakah thereof, then woe to him, but this verse was revealed before the prescription of Zakah, and when Zakah was prescribed, Allah made it a means of purifying of the wealth" (Sahih Albukhari 1404). The Zakah on gold requires that the gold reaches the Nisab, which is twenty Mithqals of gold, and the Mithqal is a unit of weight measuring approximately 4.25 gram, so the Nisab of gold is estimated at the current weight approximately eighty-five grams of 21 karat, and as for the Nisab of silver, it is two hundred of Dirhams of silver, which is five hundred and ninety-five grams of silver according to the current weight. So when the amount of pure gold and silver reaches the Nisab, the Zakah is due on it, which is the quarter of tenth i.e. 2.5% of its value at the current market price. But as for saved money and currencies other than gold and silver, its Nisab is estimated by the value of the Nisab of gold or silver and the Nisab of silver is desirable because it is the lowest of the two in financial value, so whoever has saved money, Dollars, or other currencies and wants to know whether it has reached the Nisab, so the Zakah is due on him or it has not reached the Nisab, so the Zakah is not due on him, then he has to ask about the value of a gram of gold of 21 karat, or a gram of silver, then compare it with what he has of money, if his money reached the Nisab (85 gram of gold of 21 karat or 595 gram of silver), then the Zakah is due, and then it will be 2.5% of what he has of money, otherwise, he does not have to pay the Zakah, and if he wishes, he pays the Zakah on his money if it reaches the Nisab of silver, and if wishes, he does not pay it unless his money reaches the Nisab of gold for silver is desirable, and gold is obligatory. And the Zakah is not obligatory on money unless it reaches the Nisab, and the Hijri year passes on it, so it remains with its owner for a year without falling below the Nisab.

As for the money invested in trade, the Zakah is due on it just as it is due on saved money, rather it is more deserving of Zakah if it reaches the Nisab and the Hijri year passes on it, so the merchant has to count the goods he has, the money he has with his customers, and the other money he has, then deduct his debts if he has debts, and if the total money he has reached the Nisab of gold or silver as shown above, he has to pay the Zakah due on it which is 2.5% of his money, and he has to count his money once a year, preferably at the same time of the Hijri year, for example on the fifteenth of Ramadan every year or any other day he chooses from the Hijri year, then pay the Zakah due on it.

Thereupon, every wealth on which you have paid the Zakah, you will not be of those who hoard the gold and the silver even if it is a lot, but every wealth you have not paid the Zakah on, then you will be punished even if it is little but it reaches the Nisab of Zakah, then Allah threatens those who hoard the gold and the silver and do not spend it in the way of Allah saying on the day of resurrection, it will be heated in the fire of Hellfire, then their foreheads, their sides, and their backs will be cauterized thereby, and it will be said to them this is what you hoarded for yourselves, so Taste the punishment of Hellfire as a recompense for what you used to hoard, and Allah's Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) said in narration of Abu Hurayrah ''If any owner of gold or silver does not pay what is due on it, when the day of resurrection would come, plates of fire would be beaten out for him, these would then be heated in the fire of Hell and his sides, his forehead, and his back would be cauterized with them. Whenever these cool down, they would be repeated during a day the extent of which would be fifty thousand years, until Judgement is pronounced among servants, and he sees whether his path is to take him to Paradise or to Hell" (Sahih Muslim 987).

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (36) "Indeed, the number of the months with Allah is twelve months in the book of Allah on the day He created the heavens and the earth, of which there are four sacred, that is the straight religion, so Do not wrong yourselves during them, and Fight against the polytheists all together as they fight against you all together, and Know that Allah is with the righteous", that is, Allah assures that the number of the months of the year is twelve months in the book of Allah in which He wrote everything that exists according to His decree on the day He created the Heavens and the earth, these twelve months include four sacred months, and they are Rajab Mudar, and three successive months, which are Dhul-Qa'dah, Dhul-Hijjah, and Almuharram. The Hijri months range between twenty-nine and thirty days, and do not exceed thirty, and its variation depends on the moon's cycle around the earth. And Allah's Messenger named the month of Rajab as Rajab Mudar, in reference to Mudar tribe to show the validity of their statement about Rajab that it is the month between Jumada Althani and Sha'ban, not as Rabi'ah tribe thinks that the Sacred Rajab is between Sha'ban and Shawwal, which is Ramadan month.

And as narrated by Abu Bakrah Nafi' bin Alharith: "The Prophet (PBUH) said time has taken its original shape which it had when Allah created the heavens and the earth, four of which are sacred, out of these three are in succession Dhul-Qa'da, Dhul-Hijjah, and Almuharram, and the fourth is Rajab mudar which is between Jumada Althani and Sha'ban. Then the Prophet asked Which is this month?, we replied Allah and His Messenger know best, on that the Prophet kept quite so long that we thought that He might name it with another name, then the Prophet said Is not it the month of Dhul-Hijjah?, we replied yes, then He said Which town is this?, we replied Allah and His Messenger know best, on that He kept quite so long that we thought that He might name it with another name, then He said Is not it the town of Mecca?, we replied yes, then He said Which day is today?, we replied Allah and His Messenger know best, on that He kept quite so long that we thought that He might name it with another name, then He said Is not it the day of Nahr (Sacrifice on tenth of Dhul-Hijjah)?, we replied yes, He said so your blood, your properties, and Muhammad said, I think the Prophet also said and your honor, are sacred to one another like the sanctity of this day of yours in this city of yours in this month of yours, and surely you will meet your Lord, and He will ask you about your deeds. Beware! Do not become infidels after Me, cutting the throats of one another, it is incumbent on those who are present to convey this to those who are absent, may be that some of those to whom it will be conveyed will understand it better than those who have actually heard it" (Sahih Albukhari 4406).

Thereupon, the number of months with Allah is twelve months of which four are sacred months, and that is the straight religion in which there is no crookedness, and the truth in which there is no doubt, so Do not wrong yourselves during these four sacred months by disobeying Allah, permitting what Allah has forbidden for you, and forbidding what Allah has permitted for you, lest you deserve Allah's punishment and wrath; For injustice in the sacred months is a greater sin that injustice in another than them. Then Allah commanded the believers to fight the polytheists all together just as the polytheists fight them all together, so Unite all together and Know that Allah is with righteous ones, so if you fought the polytheist all together, gathered on the word of truth, and feared Allah and His punishment if you disobeyed His commands, then Allah will be with you against your enemy and His enemy from among the polytheists, and He will help you against them.

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (37) "Indeed, the postponement is only an increase in disbelief by which those who have disbelieved are led astray, they make it lawful one year and unlawful another year, so that they may conform to the number of what Allah has made unlawful, so they make lawful what Allah has made unlawful, it has been adorned for them the evil of their deeds, and Allah does not guide the disbelieving people", that is, the polytheists of Quraish used to change the ruling of Allah regarding the sacred four months according to their desires and interests, so they used to postpone Almuharram month one year, and made Safar month as a sacred month instead, then the next year they will make Almuharram as a sacred month, and postpone Safar month, thereupon, Allah assures that the postponement of the months is only an increase in their disbelief, so those who have disbelieved increased in disbelief by it in addition to their disbelief based on their denial of the monotheism of Allah, the prophecy of His Messenger, and the truthfulness of the Holy Quran, so they are led astray from the path of guidance, and they used to postpone the sacred months in order to conform to the number of what Allah has made unlawful of the four sacred months, so they make lawful what Allah has made unlawful of these four months, and their evil deeds had been adorned for them, so they saw the evil deeds as good deeds, and Allah does not guide the disbelievers who oppose Him and His Messenger, and do not forbid what He has forbidden.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (38,39) "O you who have believed! What is with you that when it is said to you Go forth in the way of Allah, you cling heavily to the earth?, Are you satisfied with the worldly life rather than the Hereafter?, but the enjoyment of the worldly life compared to the Hereafter is nothing but a little, if you do not go forth, He will punish you with a painful punishment and will replace you with a people other than you and you will not harm Him in anything, and Allah is All-Powerful over everything", that is, Allah blames those who remained behind Allah's Messenger in the battle of Tabuk as will come later in Aya (81), so Allah says to the believers What is with you that when Allah's Messenger called you for Jihad saying Go forth and Leave your homes to fight in the way of Allah, you were lazy and tended to stay in your homes, Are you satisfied with the enjoyment of the worldly life rather than the Hereafter?, thereupon, Allah assures them that the enjoyment of the worldly life compared to the Hereafter is nothing but a little; For it is a little fleeting pleasure compared to what Allah has prepared for the righteous of eternal bliss in Paradise, and Allah's Messenger said in narration of Almustawred bin Shaddad: "By Allah! The world compared to the Hereafter is nothing but like when one of you puts this finger of his in the sea, and Yahya pointed with his index finger, so let him see with what it will come back?" (Sahih Muslim 2858). Then Allah threatened those who abandoned Jihad in His way saying If you do not go forth for Jihad, He will punish you with a painful punishment in the worldly life, and will replace you with a people other than you who will support Allah's religion, and fight the polytheists for the sake of Allah with their wealth and their lives, and you will not harm Allah in anything, but rather you will only harm yourselves by disobeying Allah and His Messenger, and Allah is All-powerful to do whatever He wills, and neither impediment nor inability can prevent Him from doing whatever He wills.

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (40) "If you do not help Him, then indeed, Allah has already helped Him when those who disbelieved had expelled Him, the second of two, when they both were in the Cave and He said to His companion Do not grieve, indeed, Allah is with Us, and Allah sent down His tranquility upon Him, and supported Him with soldiers whom you did not see, and made the word of those who disbelieved is the lowest while the word of Allah is the highest, and Allah is Almighty, All-Wise", that is, Allah addresses the believers saying If you do not help Allah's Messenger, then Allah is His Supporter and Protector just as He had supported Him when the polytheists of Quraish were planning to imprison Him, kill Him, or expel Him from Mecca in the year of Hijrah as mentioned in Aya (30) of Surat Alanfal, then Allah commanded Him to emigrate from Mecca to Medina, so He escaped from them in the company of His friend and His companion Abu Bakr bin Abi Quhafa, then they both took refuge in the Cave of Thawr for three days so that Quraish would stop searching for them, then they marched towards Medina, and Abu Bakr was afraid that the polytheists of Quraish would see them, and cause harm to Allah's Messenger, but Allah's Messenger reassured Him and said to Him Do not grieve, indeed, Allah is with Us, and as narrated by Abu Bakr: "I was in the company of the Prophet (PBUH) in the Cave, and on seeing the traces of the polytheists, I said O Allah's Messenger! If one of them should lift up his foot, he will see us, He said What do you think of two, the third of whom is Allah?" (Sahih Albukhari 4663). And Allah sent down His tranquility upon His Messenger and supported Him with soldiers from among the Angels whom you did not see, so Allah has made the word of the disbelievers is the lowest by defeating and humiliating them, and the word of Allah is the highest, so the religion of Allah and the monotheism prevailed over the polytheism and its people, and Allah is Almighty who is Severe in His revenge on those who disobeyed Him, and He is All-Wise who manages His creation with wisdom in His laws and destiny.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (41,42) "Go forth, whether light or heavy, and strive with your wealth and your lives in the way of Allah, that is better for you if you know, has it been a near gain and an easy journey, they would have followed You, but the distance was far for them, and they will swear by Allah if we were able, we would have come forth with you, they destroy themselves, and Allah knows that they are liars", that is, Allah commanded the believers to go forth for Jihad in His way with their wealth and their lives, whether they are light or heavy, including the young man who finds it is easy to fight due to his physical strength and good health, and the old man who is weak in body, whoever is prosperous with wealth and whoever is insolvent of money, and whoever has a camel and whoever has not a camel, they all have their role in the battle. Then Allah assures the believers that striving in His way with their wealth and lives is better for them in the worldly life and the Hereafter if they know, for all their conditions are good for them either Allah will cause them to die in His way, so He will admit them into Paradise, or He will return them safely with a reward for Jihad in the way of Allah or a reward and spoils from their enemy, where as narrated by Abu Hurayrah: "I heard Allah's Messenger (PBUH) saying the example of the one who strives in the way of Allah "Mujahid", and Allah knows best who really strives in His way, is like a person who fasts and prays continuously, Allah guarantees that He will admit the Mujahid in His way into Paradise if He caused him to die, or He will return him to his home safely with reward or spoils" (Sahih Albukhari 2787). Then Allah tells about those who had remained behind the Messenger of Allah in the Battle of Tabuk after they had asked the permission of Allah's Messenger claming that they had excuses while they were not as will come later in Aya (81), so Allah assures that if Allah's Messenger called them to a near booty or a place near and easy, they would have gone forth with Him, but He called them to a far place and charged them with a difficult journey in a time of heat, so the distance was far for them, and they will swear by Allah to Allah's Messenger when He will return from the Battlefield that if they were able and have not any excuses, they would have come forth with Him, thereupon, Allah confirms that they destroy themselves with hypocrisy and lies, and Allah knows that they are liars for they were able to go forth with the believers.

Allah says in the next three verses (43-45) "May Allah pardon You, Why did you have permitted them until it was clear to you those who were truthful and You know the liars, those who believe in Allah and the Last Day do not ask Your permission to be excluded from striving with their wealth and their lives, and Allah is All-Knower of the righteous, only those who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day, and whose hearts have doubted would ask Your permission, and they in their doubt are hesitating", that is, Allah has pardoned His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) before blaming Him regarding His permission for those who remained behind Him, so Allah's pardoning preceded His blaming saying May Allah pardon You, Why did You have permitted these hypocrites who asked your permission for abandoning Jihad in the way of Allah until it was clear to You those who were truthful in their excuses, and those who were liars and having no excuse. Then Allah assures His Messenger that those who believe in Allah and the day of resurrection do not ask His permission to abstain Jihad in the way of Allah with their wealth and their lives without any excuse; for they see that Jihad is a closeness to Allah, and when Allah commanded them to strive in His way, they hastened and obeyed His command, and Allah is All-Knower of the righteous who fear Allah and fear His punishment by obeying His commands and avoiding His prohibitions. Those who would ask the permission of Allah's Messenger are only those who do not believe in Allah and the day of resurrection, and whose hearts have doubted about Allah and His religion, so they do not fear Allah's recompense for those who disobeyed Him, therefore, they do not act with insight, nor do they distinguish the truth from the falsehood but rather they are hesitating in their doubt, and these are the characteristics of the hypocrites who declare the opposite of what they conceal.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (46,47) "And if they had intended to come forth, they would have prepared for it a preparation, but Allah dislikes their being sent, so He kept them back and it was said Remain with those who sit, had they come forth with you, they would not have increased you except in disorder, and they would have been active among you, seeking trial for you, and among you there are listeners to them, and Allah is All-Knower of the wrongdoers", that is, Allah assures that if the hypocrites had intended to go forth with Allah's Messenger for Jihad in the way of Allah, they would have prepared a preparation for travel and fighting in the way of Allah, but they did not prepare for it for they intended to remain behind, so Allah disliked their being sent for Jihad, so He kept them back and discouraged them to the point they found it difficult to travel, and preferred staying at their homes over striving in the way of Allah, so it was said Remain with those who remain behind from among the sick, the weak, the women, and the children. Allah kept them back because He knows their hypocrisy and their deception for the believers, and that if they went out with them, they would harm them and would not benefit them, so had they went out with the believers, they would not have increased them except in disorder and causing dissension, and they would have been active among the believers and will hasten to walk among them with gossip and hatred in order to tempt them from striving in the way of Allah and discouraging them from it, and among the believers are those who approve their saying and their words, and seek their advice because of their eloquence, so when they speak, the people listen to their speech as Allah has stated in Aya (4) of Surat Almunafiquon "And if they speak You listen to their speech", and that would lead to disagreement and great disorder between the believers. And Allah is All-Knower of the wrongdoers who wronged themselves with hypocrisy and doubt as nothing of their affair is hidden from Him.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (48,49) "They had already desired the trial before, and had upset the matters for you until the truth has come and the ordinance of Allah has appeared while there were averse, and among them is he who says Permit me, and Do not put me to a trial, unquestionably, into the trial they have fallen, and indeed, Hellfire will surely surround the disbelievers'', that is, Allah reminds His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) of the trial of the hypocrites that they had plotted against Him and His companions before as they tried to destroy the religion of Islam when Allah's Messenger emigrated to Medina when they said do not spend on those who are with the Messenger of Allah until they disperse and go away from Him, and intended to expel the emigrants (Almuhajereen) from Medina as Allah has stated in Ayat (7,8) of Surat Almunafiquon, and they had upset the matters for Allah's Messenger in order to nullify what He came with from His Lord, but Allah refuses except to perfect His light, even though the disbelievers dislike as shown above in Aya (32), so the truth has come, and the religion of Allah has prevailed, and Allah has honored Islam and the Muslims while they were averse, so they entered Islam hypocritically while their hearts do not believe. Therefore, when Allah's Messenger called them for Jihad in the way of Allah, they used false excuses to remain behind Him, and among them is he who said to Allah's Messenger Permit me to remain, and do not put me to trial and blame, but Allah assures that they have already put themselves into trial and blame, so they deserve the painful punishment on the day of resurrection where the Hellfire will surely surround the disbelievers, and the punishment will cover them from above them and from under their feet as the shadows of Hellfire will be from above them and from below them as mentioned in Aya (16) of Surat Alzumar.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (50,51) "If good befalls You, it distresses them, but if a calamity befalls You, they say indeed, we took our matter before, and turn away while they are rejoicing, Say never will we be afflicted except by what Allah has decreed for us, He is our Protector, and upon Allah let the believers put their trust", that is, Allah tells about the hostility of the hypocrites against His Messenger, and says if good befalls Him such as a conquest and a victory over His enemy which pleases Him and His companions, it distresses and displeases them, but if a calamity befalls Him such as a defeat befalls Him and His army, they say we took our matter before, and we took precautions before, so we did not go out to fight with You, and they turn away while they are rejoicing out of their severe enmity to the Muslims. Thereupon, Allah commanded His Messenger to say to them that nothing will happen to us except what Allah has decreed, so we under His will and destiny, He is our Protector, and upon Allah let the believers put their trust and submit all their affairs to Him alone, and if they do so, He will help them against those who oppress them.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (52,53) "Say Do you await for us except one of the two good things while we await for you that Allah will afflict you with punishment from Himself or at our hands?, so Wait, indeed, we are with you among those who wait, Say Spend willingly or unwillingly, never will it be accepted from you, indeed, you have been a disobedient people", that is, Allah commanded His Messenger to say to the hypocrites Do you await for us except one of the two best things whether a martyrdom in the way of Allah with which we win Paradise, and be saved from Hellfire or a victory over our enemy with which we gain reward and spoils, while we await for you that Allah will afflict upon you a punishment from Him with which He will destroy you or at our hands, so we will kill you or captive you, so Wait, indeed, we are awaiting for what Allah will do to us and to you. Then Allah commanded His Messenger to say to them Spend whatever you spend, willingly or unwillingly, it will not accepted from you, indeed, you have been a disobedient people, deviating from faith in your Lord.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (54,55) "And what prevents their expenditures from being accepted from them except that they have disbelieved in Allah and in His Messenger, and they do not come to the prayer except while they are lazy, and they do not spend except while they are unwilling, so Let not their wealth or their children admire You, Allah only intends to punish them through them in the worldly life, and that their souls should depart while they are disbelievers", that is, Allah tells about the reasons for not accepting the expenditures from the hypocrites which are that they do not believe in Allah and in His Messenger while deeds are only accepted by faith, they do not come to the prayer except while they are lazy because they do not hope for reward by performing it, nor do they fear punishment by abandoning it, but rather they perform it out of fear for themselves, so that their matter will not be exposed and their hypocrisy will appear to the believers, and they do not spend any of their wealth except while they are unwilling, so whatever good they did while they did not believe in Allah and His Messenger will not be accepted from them, and will not avail them from Allah's punishment, and as narrated by Aisha: "I said Messenger of Allah! The son of Jud'an used in Pre-Islamic era to establish ties of kinship and feed the needy, Would that be of any avail to him?, He said it would be of no avail to him as he did not say O my Lord! Pardon my sins on the day of Judgment" (Sahih Muslim 214). Thereupon, Allah said to His Messenger Let not their wealth and their children admire You, Allah only intends to punish them in the worldly life through misfortunes in their wealth and their children, so they will be a trial for them, and will distract them from the worship Allah till their souls should depart, and they die while they are disbelievers, so they will be punished with a severe punishment in Hellfire on the day of resurrection.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (56,57) "And they swear by Allah that they are from among you while they are not from among you, but they are a people who are afraid, if they could find a refuge or caves or a place to enter, they would turn away to it while they are running", that is, Allah tells about the lying of the hypocrites where they will swear by Allah that they are from among the believers and that they are on one religion, but Allah assures that they are not from among the believers, but what made them swear that they are from among the believers was that they feared the Muslims, so they said with their tongues the opposite of what they conceal in order to be safe and not be killed by the Muslims, but if they could find any way of protection in which they protect themselves such as a fortress in which they fortify themselves, caves in the mountains, or a tunnel in the earth in which they hide themselves, they would turn away to it, and hasten to leave the believers out of their hostility and hatred towards them.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (58,59) "And among them are some who criticize You concerning the charities, if they are given from them, they are satisfied, but if they are not given from them, behold! They are displeased, if only they had been satisfied with what Allah and His Messenger gave them, and said Allah is Sufficient for us, Allah will give us from His bounty and His Messenger, indeed, to Allah we are turning desirous", that is, Allah addresses His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) saying that among the hypocrites are some who criticize and reproach Him regarding the matter of charities when He distributes them among the people, they do not blame Him out of their eagerness for religion, but out of the anger for themselves, so if Allah's Messenger gave them what pleases them of the charities, they will be satisfied with Him, but if He did not give them what pleases them of the charities, they will be angry with Him, and will scold Him, and as narrated by Abu Zubair that Jabir bin Abdullah said: "The Messenger of Allah was in Ji'ranah and He was distributing gold nuggets and spoils of war which were in Bilal's lap, a man said Do Justice O Muhammad! He said Woe to you! Who will do justice after Me if I do not do justice?, Umar said O Messenger of Allah! Let me strike the neck of this hypocrite! The Messenger of Allah said this man has some companions who recite the Quran but it does not go any deeper than their collarbones, they will pass through the religion like an arrow passing through its target" (Sunan Ibn Majah 172). Then Allah confirms that it would be better for them to be satisfied with what Allah has given them and His Messenger, to rely upon Allah alone saying Allah is Sufficient for us, to trust that Allah will give them from His bounty and His Messenger from the charities, and to turn to Allah desirous in His generosity and His vast bounty.

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (60) "The charities are only for the poor, and the needy, and those employed to collect them, and those whose hearts are brought together, and in the necks and those in debt, and in the way of Allah, and the wayfarer, an obligation from Allah, and Allah is All-knower, All-Wise", that is, when the hypocrites criticized Allah's Messenger regarding the distribution of the charities, Allah made clear that He is the one who divided it, took charge of it, and did not entrust its division to anyone other than Him, and He has legislated eight ways for the expenditure of the charities, the first way of the expenditures of the charity is to be given to the poor who do not find anything to spend and ask the people for charity, and as narrated by Ibn Abbas that Allah's Messenger said to Mu'adh when He sent him to Yemen: "Teach them that Allah has made it obligatory for them to pay the Zakah from their property and it is to be taken from their wealthy ones and given to their poor ones" (Sahih Albukhari 1395). The second way of the expenditures of the charity is to be given to the needy who do not ask the people anything despite their intense need, and Allah's Messenger said in narration of Abu Hurayrah: "The needy is not the one who asks a morsel or two from the others, but the needy is the one who has nothing and is shamed to beg from people" (Sahih Albukhari 1476).

The third way of the expenditures of the charity is to be given to those employed to collect the charity from the people, and they are entitled to a share of the charities, but it was not permissible for them to be from the family of the Messenger of Allah, where He said to Abdul-Muttalib bin Rabi'ah bin Alharith, and Alfadl bin Alabbas when they both asked Allah's Messenger to use them both to collect the charities and take their share of them: "Indeed, the charity is not appropriate for the family of Muhammad, it is the dirties of the people" (Sahih Muslim 1072). The fourth way of the expenditures of the charity is to be given to those whose hearts are brought together, and it is given to Non-Muslims in order to encourage them to embrace Islam or to the new Muslims in order to strengthen their hearts in faith, where as narrated by Sa'eed bin Almusayyah from Safwan bin Umayyah who was a polytheists: "The Messenger of Allah gave to me on the day of Hunayn, and He was the most hated creature to me, but He did not stop giving to me until He was the most loved creature to me" (Jami' Altirmidhi 666), and as narrated by Sa'd: "Allah's Messenger (PBUH) distributed the Zakah amongst a group of people while I was sitting there, but Allah's Messenger left a man whom I thought the best of the lot, I asked O Allah's Messenger! Why have You left that person?, By Allah I regard him as a faithful believer, the Prophet commented Or merely a Muslim, I remained quiet for a while, but could not help repeating my Question because of what I knew about him, and then asked Allah's Messenger Why have You left so-and-so?, By Allah! He is a faithful believer, the Prophet again said Or merely a Muslim, and I could not help repeating my Question because of what I knew about him, and then the Prophet said O Sa'd! I give to a person while another is dearer to Me, for fear that Allah might throw him on his face in the fire" (Sahih Albukhari 27).

The fifth way of the expenditures of the charity is to be given in the necks whether freeing the slave by paying money to his master or helping a slave who wrote a contract for his master to pay him money in order to free himself whom Allah has described in Aya (33) of Surat Alnoor, and Allah's Messenger said in narration of Abu Hurayrah: "If somebody manumits a Muslim slave, Allah will save every part of him for every part of the slave from the fire, even his private for the private parts of the salve" (Sahih Albukhari 6715), and as narrated by Abu Dhar: "I asked the Prophet What is the best deed?, He replied to belief in Allah, and striving in His way, I then asked What is the best kind of manumission?, He said the most expensive slave and the most beloved by his master, I said if I cannot afford to do that?, He said Help the weak or Do good for a person who cannot work for himself, I said if I cannot do that?, He said Refrain from harming others for this will be regarded as a charity by which you give charity for yourself" (Sahih Albukhari 2518). The sixth way of the expenditures of the charity is to be given to those have debts, and they can not pay them back to the people, and as narrated by Abu Sa'id Alkhudri: "In the time of Allah's Messenger, a man suffered loss in fruits he had bought, and his debt increased, so Allah's Messenger said to the people Give him charity, and they gave him charity, but that was not enough to pay the debt in full, whereupon, Allah's Messenger said to his creditors Take what you find, and you have nothing but that" (Sahih Muslim 1556). The seventh way of the expenditures of the charity is to be given in the way of Allah in order to support the religion of Allah and His law that He has legislated to His servants such as equipping the invaders and the army to fight His enemy. The eighth way of the expenditures of the charity is to be given to the wayfarer who is in need of maintenance and what he needs on his travel. Then Allah assures that His division of the charities is an obligation from Him, and that He has made the charities in these eight ways, so it does not exceed these eight to others, and it is not necessarily to dividing the charities among these eight categories, but if you wish you can place it in one category, two categories, or three categories. And Allah is All-Knower of your affairs as nothing is hidden from Him in the heavens or on the earth, the All-Wise who manages His creation with wisdom in His laws and destiny, so He chooses the most appropriate for you in dividing the charities.

Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (61-63) "And among them are those who hurt the Prophet and say He is an ear, Say an ear of goodness for you that He believes in Allah and believes the believers, and a mercy to those who believe among you, and those who hurt the Messenger of Allah, for them there is a painful punishment, they swear by Allah to you so that they may please you, but Allah and His Messenger have more right that they should please Him, if they are believers, Do they not know that whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger, then, for Him there is the fire of Hellfire, abiding therein forever, that is the great disgrace", that is, Allah assures that from among the hypocrites are those who harm the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) with sayings and acts, and say that He is an ear, so He hears from everyone what He says, and accepts his saying and believes it, thereupon, Allah commanded His Messenger to say to them an ear of goodness for you not an evil ear, so He hears the good and believes it, but He does not hear the evil nor does He believe it, and He knows the truthful from the liar, and He believes in Allah alone, and believes in what He has sent down to Him, and believes the believers in what they say not the disbelievers or the hypocrites, and He is a mercy for those who believe and follow Him as He brought them out of misguidance to guidance by which Allah has sent Him with. then Allah threatens those who harm His Messenger with a painful punishment in Hellfire on the day of resurrection. Allah addresses the believers and says to them that the hypocrites swear by Allah that they did not harm the Messenger of Allah, nor did they slander Him, so that they may please the believers lest they get angry with them, but Allah assures that He and His Messenger have more right that they should please Him by repenting and refraining from harming the Messenger of Allah if they believe in the oneness of Allah, and believe in His Messenger and His book. Then Allah threatens the hypocrites who insist on hypocrisy and declare to the believers the opposite of what they conceal saying Do they not know that whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger that there is for him the fire of Hellfire on the day of resurrection, abiding therein forever, and that is the great humiliation and misery.

Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (64-66) "The hypocrites are afraid lest a Surah be sent down about them, informing them of what is in their hearts, Say Ridicule, indeed, Allah will bring out what you are afraid of, and if You ask them, they will surely say we were only conversing vainly and playing, Say Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were ridiculing, Do not make excuse, you have disbelieved after your belief, if We pardon a group of you, We will punish another group because they were criminals", that is, the hypocrites used to criticize Allah's Messenger and mocked His affair and the affairs of the believers, so they were afraid that Allah will sent down a Surah upon His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) in which Allah will divulge their secrets and inform the believers of what they conceal in their hearts, thereupon, Allah commanded His Messenger to say to them Ridicule, indeed, Allah will expose what you are afraid of, and will make clear to us your affair. Then Allah said to His Messenger if You ask these hypocrites about the falsehood and slander they said, they will say we were only engaging in vain conversation and playing, thereupon, Allah commanded His Messenger to say to them Is it Allah, His verses, and His Messenger that you were ridiculing, so Allah threatens them saying Do not make excuses by lying because you have disbelieved after belief, if We pardon a group of you because they repented and believed, We will punish another group because they were a criminal people, persisting on hypocrisy and neglecting the repentance.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (67,68) "The hypocrite men and the hypocrite women are of one another, they enjoin the wrong, and forbid from the right, and close their hands, they forgot Allah, so He forgot them, indeed, the hypocrites are the disobedient, Allah has promised the hypocrites men and the hypocrites women and the disbelievers the fire of Hellfire, abiding therein forever, it is sufficient for them, and Allah has cursed them and for them there is a constant punishment", that is, Allah assures that the hypocrite men and the hypocrite women are not from the believers, but rather they are of one another, they are one kind and they are similar in concealing hypocrisy and declaring belief, and in their characteristics for they enjoin the wrong as they invite the people to disbelieve in Allah and to act in disobedience to Him, and they forbid from the right as they forbid the people from worshipping Allah alone, and acting in obedience to Him, they close their hands from spending in the way of Allah neither in obligatory charity (Zakah) nor in alms, and they had forgotten Allah and forgotten His rights over them, so Allah forgot them, so He will leave them wandering blindly in their hypocrisy, and it will be said to them on the day of resurrection "Today we forget you as you forgot the meeting of this day of yours" as mentioned in Aya (34) of Surat Aljathiyah, indeed, the hypocrites are the disobedient people who disobey Allah's commands, and oppose Him. Thereupon, Allah has promised the hypocrite men, the hypocrite women, and the disbelievers the fire of Hellfire on the day of resurrection, and they will abide therein forever, the Hellfire is sufficient for them as a punishment and a recompense for their disbelief in Allah, His Messenger, and His book, and Allah has cursed them and kept them away from His mercy in the worldly life and the Hereafter, and for them there is a constant punishment in Hellfire that neither ends nor lightened for them.

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (69) "Like those before you, they were greater than you in might and more in wealth and children, so they enjoyed their portion, and you have enjoyed your portion as those before you enjoyed their portion, and you have indulged like that in which they indulged,  those, their deeds were nullified in the world, and in the Hereafter, and those are the losers", that is, the hypocrites and the disbelievers of Quraish are like those before them from among the previous nations who opposed Allah and His Messengers, although they were greater than them in might and more in wealth and children, but they have enjoyed their portion of goodness and happiness in the worldly life instead of their portion of the Hereafter, so the hypocrites have followed their footsteps, and have enjoyed their portion of the worldly life as those before them have enjoyed their portion, and they have indulged in lying and falsehood like that in which those before them have indulged, so their deeds were nullified in the worldly life and in the Hereafter as their deeds have become worthless due to their disbelief, and those are the losers on the day of resurrection for it will be said to them "You exhausted your good things in your worldly life, and you have enjoyed them as mentioned in Aya (20) of Surat Alahqaf, so they all will enter Hellfire, abiding therein forever.

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (70) "Has there not come to them the news of those before them, the people of Noah, and Ad, and Thamud, and the people of Abraham, and the companions of Madyan, and Almu'tafekat?, their Messengers came to them with clear proofs, so Allah was not to wrong them, but they were wronging themselves", that is, Allah cites to the hypocrites the story of the previous nations who denied their Messengers and how was the end of the disbelievers, where Allah had drowned the people of Noah in the flood, Allah had destroyed Ad, the people of the Prophet Hud, with a sterile wind, the thunderbolt destroyed Thamud, the people of the Prophet Salih, Allah has destroyed the people of Abraham, Allah has combined three types of punishment for the people of Madyan to whom the Prophet Shu'ayb was sent, and they were the blast as mentioned in  Aya (94) of Surat Hud, the earthquake as mentioned in Aya (91) of Surat Ala'raf, and the punishment of the day of shadow as mentioned in Aya (189) of Surat Alshu'araaand Allah has destroyed Almu'tafekat, and it means the overturned cities, and they were the people of the Prophet Lot whose cities overturned upon them where Allah had made the highest of it its lowest, and rained upon them stones of layered hard clay as mentioned in Aya (82) of Surat Hud, when their Messengers came to them with clear proofs and arguments that indicate the oneness of Allah, they denied them and disbelieved, so Allah punished them with the painful punishment and He was not to wrong them, but they used to wrong themselves with disbelief and disobedient.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (71,72) "And the believing men and the believing women are allies of one another, they enjoin the right and forbid from the wrong and establish the prayer and give the Zakah and obey Allah and His Messenger, those, Allah will have mercy upon them, indeed, Allah is Almighty, All-Wise, Allah has promised the believing men and the believing women gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein forever, and a pleasing dwellings in the gardens of Eden, and a pleasure from Allah is greater, that is the great success", that is, the believing men and the believing women are allies of one another, so their hearts are united in affection, love, and sympathy, and Allah's Messenger said in narration of Alnu'man bin Basheer: "You see the believers in being merciful to one another, showing love to one another, and being kind to one another like the body, when one part is not well, the whole body responds with sleeplessness and fever" (Sahih Albukhari 6011). The believing men and the believing women also enjoin the right as they invite the people to worship Allah alone and to act in obedience to Him, they forbid from the wrong as they forbid associating partners with Allah, and acting in disobedience to Him, they establish the prayers in its prescribed times, they give the Zakah (The obligatory charity), and they obey Allah by following His orders, and avoiding His prohibitions, then those who have these characteristics, Allah will have mercy upon them, and Allah is Almighty who is Severe in His revenge on those who disobeyed Him, and He is All-Wise who manages His creation with wisdom in His laws and destiny.

Allah has promised the believing men and the believing women gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein forever, and a pleasant dwellings in the gardens of Eden, and Eden is one of the names of Paradise, and as narrated by Abdullah bin Qais that Allah's Messenger said: "In Paradise there is a pavilion made of a single hollow pearl sixty miles wide, in each corner of which there are wives who will not see those in the other corners, and the believers will visit and enjoy them, and there are two gardens, the utensils and contents of which are made of silver, and two other gardens, the utensils and contents of which are made of such-and-such, and nothing will prevent the people staying in the gardens of Eden from seeing their Lord except the curtain of Majesty over His face" (Sahih Albukhari 4879), and they will have a pleasure from Allah that is greater and more honorable than the bliss they are in, and that is the great success after which there will be no misery or fatigue, and Allah's Messenger said in narration of Abu Sa'id Alkhudri: "Allah will say to the people of Paradise, O the people of Paradise! They will say Labaika Rabbana wa sa'daiyk: at Your service and pleasure our Lord, Allah will say Are you pleased?, they will say Why should we not be pleased since You have given us what You have not given to anyone of Your creation?, Allah will say I will give you something better than that, they will say O our Lord! And what is better than that?, Allah will say I will bestow upon you My pleasure, so that I will never be displeased with you after that" (Sahih Albukhari 6549).

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (73,74) "O Prophet! Strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and Be harsh with them, and their abode is Hellfire, and wretched is the fate, they swear by Allah that they did not say while they have said the word of disbelief, and disbelieved after their conversion to Islam, and determined that which they could not obtain, and they were not resentful except that Allah and His Messenger had enriched them of His bounty, so if they repent, it is better for them, but if they turn away, Allah will punish them with a painful punishment in the world and the Hereafter, and there will not be for them on the earth any protector or any helper", that is, Allah commanded His Messenger (PBUH) to wage Jihad against the infidels and the hypocrites, the infidels with weapons and fighting and the hypocrites by being harsh and establishing the legal punishment (Alhudud) on them, and Allah assures them that their abode is the Hellfire which is a wretched and a miserable fate. Then Allah tells about the twelve hypocrites who intended to kill the Messenger of Allah during His return to Medina after the Battle of Tabuk, when the army was ordered that no one should take the road of Alaqaba other than Allah's Messenger, but fifteen men took that road, but there were three of them did not hear the caller of Allah's Messenger and did not know that the twelve hypocrites were planning to kill Allah's Messenger, so Allah's Messenger pardoned these three, where as narrated by Abu Tufail that there was a dispute between Hudhaifa and one of the people of Alaqaba as it happens amongst the people, he said I adjure you by Allah to tell me as to how many the people of Alaqaba were?, the people said to Hudhaifa to inform him as he had asked him, Hudhaifa said we have been informed that they were fourteen and if you are to be counted amongst them, they would be fifteen, and I state by Allah that twelve amongst them were the enemies of Allah and His Messenger in the worldly life, and the day when the witnesses will stand. And Allah's Messenger pardoned three of them, they said we did not hear the caller of Allah's Messenger, and we were not aware of the intention of the people, and the Messenger of Allah had been in the hot atmosphere, then He said indeed, the water is small in quantity, so nobody should go ahead of Me, but He found people who had gone ahead of Him, and He cursed them on that day" (Sahih Muslim 2779 c).

Thereupon, Allah tells about the hypocrites and says that they swore by Allah falsely that they did not say a word of disbelief, but Allah assures that they have said the word of disbelief, and disbelieved after having accepted Islam, and they intended to kill the Messenger of Allah while they were not to attain what they intended, and they were not resentful except that Allah and His Messenger had enriched them of His bounty, but instead of being grateful to Allah, they turned away, harboring hostility towards Allah's Messenger and the believers, so they became in the same position of the disbelievers, thereupon, Allah called them to repent saying if they repent, it is better for them, but if they turn away and insist on disbelief and hypocrisy, Allah will punish them with a painful punishment in the worldly life and the Hereafter, and there will not be for them on the earth any protector or any helper in order to save them from Allah's punishment, and as narrated by Qais bin Ubada from Ammar that Hudhaifa said to Him from Ghundar that Allah's Messenger said: ""In My Ummah, there are twelve hypocrites who will not enter Paradise nor will they smell its odor until the camel would pass through a needle's hole, Dubaila is sufficient for them, a flame of fire which would appear in their shoulders, and it would protrude from their chest" (Sahih Muslim 2779 b).

Allah Almighty says in the next four verses (75-78) "And among them there are those who made a pledge with Allah if He should give us from His bounty, we will surely spend in charity, and we will surely be among the righteous, but when He gave them from His bounty, they were stingy with it, and went back while they are turning away, so He penalized them a hypocrisy in their hearts until the day they will meet Him because they failed Allah in what they promised Him and because they used to lie, Do they not know that Allah knows their secrets and their secret counsels, and that Allah is the All-Knower of the unseen", that is, among the hypocrites are those who made a pledge with Allah that if Allah enriches them from His bounty and provides them with wealth, they will spend from that wealth in charity, and they will be among the righteous who act in obedience to Allah in their wealth by spending in the way of Allah and maintaining the ties of kinship by their wealth, but when Allah provided them and enriched they from His bounty, they broke their promise to Allah as they were stingy with their wealth and did not spend in charity, and they went back while they are turning away from the pledge they made with Allah, thereupon, Allah penalized them a hypocrisy in their hearts until the day of resurrection when they will meet Allah, so they will die as hypocrites and will be resurrected as hypocrites because they failed Allah in what they promised Him regarding the charity and spending in His way, and because they used to lie and say what they do not do. And Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said in narration of Abu Hurayrah: "The sign of the hypocrite are three, when he speaks, he tells a lie, when he makes a promise, he breaks it, and when he is trusted, he betrays" (Sahih Albukhari 33), thereupon, Allah says as a denunciation Do they not know that Allah hears their secrets and their secret counsels they hold, assuredly, Allah knows what they conceal and what they declare, and He is the All-Knower of the unseen as nothing is hidden from Him in the heavens or on the earth.

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (79) "Those who criticize the volunteers from among the believers concerning charities, and those who find nothing except their effort, so they mock at them, Allah will mock at them, and for them there is a painful punishment", that is, the hypocrites used to mock at the believers who give charities willingly, if one of them gives a large charity, they said he spends in order to show off before the people, but if one of them does not find except his effort, so he gives a small charity according to his financial ability, they mocked at him, and said that Allah is in no need for his charity, where as narrated by Abu Mas'ud: "When we were ordered to give charity, we began to work as porters, Abu Aqil came with one half of Sa' (Special measure for food grain), and another person brought more than he did, so the hypocrites said Allah is in no need of the charity of this (Abu Aqil), and this other person did not give charity but for showing off, then Allah revealed those who criticize the volunteers from among the believers concerning charities, and the those who find nothing except their effort (Sahih Albukhari 4668). Thereupon, Allah threatens the hypocrites and says that He will mock at them by recompensing them for their bad saying, so for them there is a painful punishment in the Hereafter.

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (80) "Ask forgiveness for them or Do not ask forgiveness for them, if You ask forgiveness for them seventy times, Allah will not forgive them, that is because they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger, and Allah does not guide the disobedient people", that is, Allah addresses His Messenger (PBUH) and tells Him that the hypocrites are not worthy for seeking forgiveness for them, so Allah says to Him whether You ask forgiveness for them or not, Allah will not forgive them even if You ask forgiveness for them seventy times because they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger, and Allah does not guide the disobedient people who disobey Allah's commands, and oppose Him, and as narrated by Ibn Abbas: "When Abdullah bin Ubai died, his son Abdullah bin Abdullah came to Allah's Messenger and asked Him to give him his shirt in order to shroud his father in it, He gave it to him, and then Abdullah asked the Prophet to offer the funeral prayer for him, Allah's Messenger got up to offer the funeral prayer for him, but Umar got up too and got hold the garment of Allah's Messenger and said O Allah's Messenger! Will You offer the funeral prayer for him though Your Lord has forbidden You to offer prayer for him, Allah's Messenger said but Allah has given Me the choice by saying Ask forgiveness for them or Do not ask forgiveness for them, if You ask forgiveness for them seventy times, so I will ask more than seventy times, Umar said but he is a hypocrite, but Allah's Messenger offered the funeral prayer for him, whereupon, Allah revealed And never pray for anyone of them who dies nor stand at his grave, Aya 84" (Sahih Albukhari 4670).

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (81,82) "Those who remained behind rejoiced in their staying behind the Messenger of Allah, and disliked to strive with their wealth and their lives in the way of Allah, and said Do not go forth in the heat, Say the fire of Hellfire is more intense in heat, if only they understand, so Let them laugh a little and weep a lot as a recompense for what they used to earn", that is, the hypocrites remained behind the Messenger of Allah and His companions in the Battle of Tabuk when Allah's Messenger commanded them to go out to wage Jihad in the way of Allah, but they disobeyed His command, and rejoiced in their staying at their homes after the believers went out for the battle, where it was a sever battle in which the companions covered far distances in extreme heat in order to support the religion of Allah, so the hypocrites disliked to strive in the way of Allah with their wealth and their lives, and said to one another Do not go forth for Jihad in the heat, thereupon, Allah commanded His Messenger to say to them that the fire of Hellfire that He has prepared for them is more intense in heat, if only they understand, they would go forth with Allah's Messenger in order to save themselves from the severe heat of Hellfire which is many times greater than the heat of the summer, and as narrated by Abu Hurayrah that Allah's Messenger said: ''This fire of yours which the sons of Adam kindle is one part from seventy parts of the heat of Hellfire, they said by Allah! It would have been enough O Messenger of Allah! He said it is sixty-nine parts more, all of them is like its heat (Jami' Altirmidhi 2589), then Allah threatens the hypocrites and says Let them laugh a little in the worldly life, and weep a lot in Hellfire on the day of resurrection as a recompense for what they used to earn of hypocrisy and disobeying Allah and His Messenger (PBUH).

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (83,84) "If Allah should return You to a group of them, then they ask your permission to go out, then Say you will not go out with Me, ever, and you will not fight with Me an enemy, indeed, you were satisfied with sitting the first time, so Sit with those who remain behind, and Do not pray over any of them who has died, ever, and Do not stand by his grave, indeed, they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger, and died while they were disobedient", that is, Allah addresses His Messenger and says to Him if Allah should return you to a group of the hypocrites who remained behind You in the Battle of Tabuk, then they ask Your permission to go out with You in another battle, then say to them you will never go out with Me nor will you fight an enemy with Me for you have been satisfied with your sitting at your homes the first time, so Sit with those who remain behind from among the sick, the weak, the women, and the children. Then Allah commanded His Messenger not to offer funeral pray over anyone of the hypocrites who has died, and not to stand by his grave in order to ask forgiveness for him, because they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger and died while they were disobedient to Allah and His Messenger, and this verse was revealed after the Messenger of Allah had offered the funeral prayer for the hypocrite Abdullah bin Ubai bin Salul and asked forgiveness for him as shown above in Aya (80).

Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (85-87) "And Let not their wealth and their children admire You, Allah only intends to punish them through them in the worldly life, and that their souls should depart while they are disbelievers, and when a Surah is sent down that Believe in Allah, and Strive with His Messenger, those of wealth among them asked your permission and said Leave us with those who sit, they were satisfied to be with those who remain behind, and it was sealed upon their hearts, so they do not understand'', that is, Allah addresses His Messenger for the second time, as in Aya (55) above, saying Let not their wealth and their children admire You, Allah only intends to punish them through them in the worldly life for it will be a trial for them, and will distract them from the worship Allah till their souls should depart, and they die while they are disbelievers, so they will be punished with a severe punishment in Hellfire on the day of resurrection. Allah tells about the hypocrites who neglected and abandoned Jihad in the way of Allah despite their ability to do it, and the abundance of wealth, so when a Surah was revealed to Allah's Messenger in which Allah commanded them to believe in Allah and to wage Jihad in His way, the wealthy ones from among them asked the permission of Allah's Messenger to remain behind and to sit with those who sit from among the sick, the weak, the women, and the children, and they were satisfied to be with those who remain behind, thereupon, Allah has sealed upon their hearts that no guidance will reach them, so they are neither guided nor aware of what is good and what is evil for them.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (88,89) "But the Messenger and those who believed with Him strove with their wealth and their lives, those for them there are the good things, and those are the successful, Allah has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein forever, that is the great success", that is, Allah assures that His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) and the believers strove in the way of Allah with their wealth and their lives, therefore, for them there are the good things in the Hereafter, and those are the successful ones for they will be saved from Hellfire and will enter Paradise, enjoying its constant pleasures and bliss, and Allah has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein forever, and that is the great success after which there will be no misery or fatigue.

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (90) "And those with excuses among the Bedouins came so that permission would be given to them, and those who lied to Allah and His Messenger sat, there will afflict those who disbelieved among them a painful punishment", that is, the Bedouins who live around Medina who have excuses and are unable to wage Jihad in the way of Allah came to Allah's Messenger, explaining to Him their weakness and inability to go out with Him for Jihad, so that He would give them His permission to remain behind, but as for the hypocrites who lied to Allah and His Messenger for they have no excuses sat in their homes, thereupon, Allah threatens them with a painful punishment in the Hereafter.

Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (91-93) "There is no blame upon the weak or upon the sick or upon those who do not find anything to spend if they are sincere to Allah and His Messenger, there is not upon the good doers any way, and Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful, nor upon those who when they came to you that you might give them a ride, You said I can not find anything to carry you upon, they turned back while their eyes overflowed with tears out of grief that they could not find anything to spend, the way is only upon those who ask your permission while they are rich, they are satisfied to be with those who remain behind, and Allah has sealed over their hearts, so they do not know", that is, Allah has legislated the excuses for abandoning fighting in His way (Jihad), among them are permanent excuses such as weakness that prevents a person from travelling and invading, and poverty that prevents a person from spending in the way of Allah, and among them are temporary excuses such as the sickness that occurs for days and then goes away, then there is no blame upon those with excuses if they sit and being sincere to Allah and His Messenger, so they do not discourage the people from fighting in the way of Allah nor do they prevent them from Jihad, where as narrated by Tamim Aldari that the Messenger of Allah said: "The religion is sincerity, we said to whom?, He said to Allah, to His book, to His Messenger, and to the leaders of the Muslims and their masses" (Sahih Muslim 55), and there is no way of punishment for the the good doers who worship Allah as if they see Him, and if they can not see Him, then Allah sees them, so they act according to Allah's commands and prohibitions, and Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful for those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds.

Allah also has legislated an excuse for those who came to Allah's Messenger so that He might give them a ride on which they can go forth for Jihad in the way of Allah, but when Allah's Messenger told them that He can not find anything to carry them upon, they turned back while weeping out of their grief that they could not find anything to spend and to wage Jihad in the way of Allah, so it was difficult for them to sit in their homes and do not participate with the Muslims in Jihad, and Allah not only gave them their excuses, but He gave those with excuses the reward of those who participated in Jihad, and that was for their good intentions and that they did not remain behind willingly, but rather unwillingly due to their excuses, where as narrated by Anas bin Malik: "Allah's Messenger returned from the Ghazwa of Tabuk, and when He approached Medina, He said there some people in Medina who were with you all the time, you did not travel any portion of the journey nor crossed any valley, but they were with you, they said O Allah's Messenger! Even though they were at Medina?, He said yes, because they stopped by a genuine excuse" (Sahih Albukhari 4423). Then Allah assures that the way of punishment is upon the hypocrites who asked the permission of Allah's Messenger to remain behind with unreal excuses for fear of Jihad and the hardship of the journey although they were rich and were able to fight in the way of Allah, and they were satisfied to be with those who remain behind from among the sick, the weak, the women, and the children, thereupon, Allah has sealed upon their hearts that no guidance will reach them, so they are neither guided nor aware of what is good and what is evil for them.

Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (94-96) "They will make excuse to You when You returned to them, Say Make no excuse, we will not believe you, Allah has informed us of your news, and Allah will see your deed and His Messenger, then you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you of what you used to do, they will swear by Allah to you when you return to them so that you turn away from them, so Turn away from them, indeed, they are filth, and their abode is Hellfire as a recompense for what they used to earn, they swear to you so that you might be pleased with them, but if you should be pleased with them, indeed, Allah will not be pleased with the disobedient people", that is, Allah assures that the hypocrites who remained behind and abandoned the Jihad in the way of Allah will make excuses with falsehood and lies to the believers when they returned to Medina from the battle, thereupon, Allah commanded the believers to say to them we will not believe you in what you say, Allah has informed us of your news and your secrets, and Allah and His Messenger will see your deed in the worldly life, then you will be returned to Allah, the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed who knows everything that His servants see, and what is hidden from them, and nothing is hidden from Him in the heavens nor on the earth, and He will inform you of what you used to do in the worldly life of good and evil. Then Allah assures that the hypocrites will swear a false oath by Allah, so that the believers turn away from them and do not rebuke them, so Allah commanded the believers to turn away from then for they are filth and impure in their inner belief, and their abode will be Hellfire as a recompense for what they used to earn of hypocrisy and disobeying Allah and His Messenger (PBUH).

And as narrated by Ka'b bin Malik that when Allah's Messenger returned from Tabuk, those who remained behind came to Allah's Messenger and started offering excuses and taking oaths before Him, and they were ranging from eighty-three to eighty-nine men, and Allah's Messenger accepted the excuses they had declared, took their pledge of allegiance, asked forgiveness for them, and left the secrets to Allah (Sahih Albukhari 4418). Thereupon, Allah exposed them and showed what they conceal in their hearts saying that they swear to the believers falsely so that they might be pleased with them, but if they accepted their excuses and be pleased with them, then indeed, Allah will not be pleased with the disobedient people who disobey Allah's commands, and oppose Him. And as narrated by Abdullah bin Ka'b bin Malik that he heard his father Ka'b bin Malik at the time he remained behind from Tabuk saying: "By Allah, no blessing has Allah bestowed upon me after He has guided me to Islam better than that of helping me speak the truth to Allah's Messenger, otherwise, I would have told the Prophet a lie, and would have been ruined like those who had ruined of those who had told a lie when the Divine Inspiration was revealed They will swear by Allah to you when you return to them.... the disobedient people" (Sahih Albukhari 4673).

Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (97-99) "The Bedouins are more severe in disbelief and hypocrisy and more likely not to know the limits of what Allah has sent down upon His Messenger, and Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise, and among the Bedouins are those who consider what they spend as a loss and await for you turns of misfortune, upon them is the cycle of evil, and Allah is All-Hearing, All-knower, and among the Bedouins are those who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and consider what they spend as means of nearness to Allah, and of the prayers of the Messenger, unquestionably, it is a means of nearness for them, Allah will admit them to His mercy, indeed, Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful", that is, Allah assures that the Bedouins who live in the desert around Medina are more severe in disbelief and hypocrisy more than the hypocrites who live in Medina, and they are more likely not to know the limits of what Allah has revealed to His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH), so they are harder-hearts, more harsh, and less knowledgeable of the rights of Allah, and Allah is All-Knower of their affairs as nothing is hidden from Him in the heavens or on the earth, the All-Wise who manages His creation with wisdom in His laws and destiny. And from among the Bedouins are those who consider what they spend in the way of Allah as a loss, and await for the believers that a misfortune, a defeat, or an evil will befall them, but Allah assures that the cycle of evil will be upon them as the evil they wish for the believers will befall them alone, and Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knower where nothing in the heavens nor on the earth is hidden from Him, so He knows best who deserves help and who deserves defeat. But among the Bedouins are those who believe in Allah and the day of resurrection, and they consider that what they spend in the way of Allah will brought them closer to Allah, seeking that Allah's Messenger supplicates for them and asks forgiveness for them, unquestionably, their spending in the way of Allah will be, as they seek, means of closeness to Allah, and Allah will admit them in His Mercy, so He will forgive them, and will admit them into Paradise, indeed, Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful for those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds.

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (100) "And the first forerunners among the Muhajireen and the Ansar and those who followed them in righteousness, Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him, and He has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein forever, that is the great success", that is, the first forerunners among the Muhajireen who went out as emigrants in the way of Allah, and left their homelands, families, and friends after they have been wronged for the sake of Allah and His Messenger, and for the support of Allah's religion, and the people of Medina whom Allah has named the Ansar when they supported Allah's Messenger when He emigrated from Mecca after His people opposed Him, where as narrated by Ghailan bin Jarir: "I asked Anas bin Malik Tell me about the name the Ansar, Did you call yourselves by it or did Allah call you by it?, he said Allah called us by it" (Sahih Albukhari 3776). The first forerunners among the Muhajireen and the Ansar are the best generation of the Islamic nation, and they have a lofty status with Allah; Because they were the first to believe in Allah and His Messenger, and they strove in the way of Allah with their wealth and their lives, and the first forerunners are those who believed, spent, and fought in the way of Allah before the conquest of Mecca, where Allah says in Aya (10) of Surat Alhadid "Are not equal those of you who spent before the conquest and fought, those are greater in degree than those who spent afterwards and fought", thereupon, the first forerunners among the Muhajireen and the Ansar and those who followed them in righteousness after the conquest of Mecca, Allah will be well-pleased with them and they will be well-pleased with Him due to the favor He has bestowed upon them, where He will admit them into Paradise, and He has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, and they will abide therein forever, and that is the great success after which there will be no misery or fatigue.

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (101) "And among those around you of the Bedouins are hypocrites, and from the people of Medina, they persisted on hypocrisy, You do not know them, We know them, We will punish them twice, then they will be returned to a great punishment", that is, Allah assures that among the Bedouins around Medina are hypocrites, and from the people of Medina are hypocrites, they persisted on hypocrisy and did not repent. Although Allah's Messenger knew a group of the hypocrites whose number exceeded eighty men, but Allah did not inform Him all the hypocrites from the Bedouins around Medina or from the people of Medina, so He says to His Messenger You do not know them, We know them, thereupon, Allah will punish them twice in the worldly life through misfortunes in their wealth and their children till their souls should depart while they are disbelievers as shown above in Ayat (55,85), then they will be returned to a great punishment in Hellfire on the day of resurrection.

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (102) "And others who have confessed their sins, they had mixed a righteous deed with another that was evil, perhaps that Allah will turn to them, indeed, Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful", that is, Allah assures that among those who remained behind the Messenger of Allah in the Battle of Tabuk are others who have confessed their sins, acknowledged that they were wrongdoers, and repented from their sins, they had mixed a righteous deed with another that was evil, assuredly, Allah will turn for them in mercy and forgiveness, indeed, Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful for those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds, and as narrated by Samura bin Jundab that Allah's Messenger said: "Tonight two visitors came to Me, and took Me to a town built with gold bricks and silver bricks, there We met men who, half of their bodies look like the most handsome human being you have ever seen, and the other half, the ugliest human being you have ever seen, those two visitors said to those men Go and Dip yourselves in that river, so they dipped themselves therein and then came to us, their ugliness having disappeared, and they were in the most handsome shape, the visitors said that is the Garden of Eden, and that is Your dwelling place, then they added as for those people who were half ugly and half handsome, they were those who mixed a righteous deed with another that was evil, but Allah forgave them" (Sahih Albukhari 4674).

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (103,104) "Take from their wealth a charity by which You cleanse and purify them and Pray for them, indeed, Your prayers are reassurance for them, and Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knower, Do they not know that it is Allah who accepts the repentance from His servants, and receives the charities, and that Allah is Ever accepting of repentance, the Most Merciful", that is, Allah commanded His Messenger to take a charity from those who had mixed a righteous deed with another that was evil, hopefully that Allah will forgive them in order to cleanse their sins, and purify their inner souls from disobedience and insincerity, then Allah commanded His Messenger to supplicate and ask forgiveness for them, indeed, His supplications are reassurance that Allah will accept their repentance, and Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knower where nothing in the heavens nor on the earth is hidden from Him, so He hears the supplications, and knows best who deserves forgiveness and who deserves punishment. And as narrated by Ibn Abi Awfa: "Whenever a man brought his charity to the Prophet (PBUH), the Prophet would say O Allah! Bestow Your blessing upon the family of so-and-so, when my father came to him, He said O Allah! Bestow Your blessings upon the family of Abu Awfa" (Sahih Albukhari 6332). Then Allah reassured the believers that He is the One who accepts the repentance and receives the charities and that He is Ever accepting of repentance, Most Merciful for those who repent and give up the sins. As narrated by Abu Hurayrah that Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said: "If anyone gives a charity the equivalent of a date from a lawful earning, and Allah does not accept except what is lawful, the Most Gracious will accept it with His Right Hand, and even if it is a date, it would foster in the Hand of the Most Gracious as one of you fosters his colt, till it becomes bigger than a mountain" (Sahih Muslim 1014).

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (105,106) "And Say Do for Allah will see your deed and His Messenger and the believers, and you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you of what you used to do, and others are deferred until the command of Allah, whether He will punish them or He will turn to them, and Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise", that is, Allah commanded His Messenger to say to those who confessed their sins and Allah has accepted their repentance from among those who remained behind Him Do in obedience to Allah, Perform His obligations, and Obey His Messenger for Allah, His Messenger, and the believers will see your deed in the worldly life, then you will be returned to Allah, the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed who knows everything that His servants see, and what is hidden from them, and nothing is hidden from Him in the heavens nor on the earth, and He will inform you of what you used to do in the worldly life of good and evil. Allah has made clear the hypocrites who swore falsely to Allah's Messenger and gave Him false excuses for their failure to participate in the Battle of Tabuk as shown above in Aya (96), and Allah has turned in forgiveness and accepted the charity from those who confessed their sins and mixed a righteous deed with another that was evil. But there remain three men who remained behind Allah's Messenger without any excuse, and they are deferred until the command of Allah, whether He will punish them or will turn in forgiveness to them, and they were Ka'b bin Malik, Murara bin Alrabi' Alamri, and Hilal bin Umayyah alwaqifi, so they were under the judgment of Allah, if He wills, He will punish them, or He will turn to them in mercy and forgiveness, but Allah has turned to them in mercy and forgiveness as will come later in Aya (117,118), and Allah is All-Knower of their affairs as nothing is hidden from Him in the heavens or on the earth, the All-Wise who manages His creation with wisdom in His laws and destiny.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (107,108) "And those who took a mosque for causing harm and disbelief and division among the believers and as a shelter for he who warred Allah and His Messenger before, and they will surely swear we intended only the best, and Allah bears witness that they are surely liars, Do not stand within it, ever, a mosque founded on righteousness from the first day is more worthy that You stand therein, within it are men who love to purify themselves, and Allah loves the purified ones", that is, there was in Medina a man from Alkhazraj called Abu Amer Alrahib, he had converted to Christianity during Pre-Islamic era, but when Allah's Messenger emigrated to Medina and the Muslims gathered around Him, then the Muslims were victorious in the Battle of Badr, Abu Amer went to the polytheists of Quraish calling them to war Allah's Messenger, so they gathered with those of the Arab tribes who agreed with them, and they went out to fight the Muslims in the year of Uhud, but the Muslims defeated them, thereupon, Abu Amer went to Heraclius, the king of Romans, to seek his victory against Allah's Messenger, then he wrote to a group of the hypocrites from among the Ansar, promising them that he will come with an army to defeat Allah's Messenger and expel Him and His companions from Medina, and he commanded them to build a shelter, so they began to build Masjid Aldirar, which is a mosque adjacent to the Quba' Mosque, and they built it before the departure of Allah's Messenger to Tabuk, then they came to Allah's Messenger and asked Him to pray in their mosque, so that their mosque has legitimacy to pray in, and they claimed that they only had built it for the weak and the ill on the winter night for it would be closer to them than Quba' mosque, but Allah protected His Messenger to pray in that mosque, so He said to them We are on journey, but if We return, if Allah wills, we would have come to you and pray for you therein.

But when Allah's Messenger returned to Medina from Tabuk, He landed at Dhu Awan, which is a town between it and Medina an hour's distance during a day, Gabriel came down to Him with the news of Masjid Aldirar, and what its builders from among the hypocrites intended of causing harm, disbelief, and division among the believers, and as a shelter for Abu Amer Alrahib who warred Allah and His Messenger before in the Battle of Uhud, and that they will surely swear to Allah's Messenger that they intended only the best and they had built it for the weak and the sick, and Allah bears witness that they are surely liars for they intended other than that, therefore, Allah forbade His Messenger from praying in their mosque saying Do not stand within it, ever. Thereupon, Allah's Messenger sent to that mosque those who had demolished it before His arrival to Medina, where He said to Malik bin Aldakhsham and Ma'an bin Udai or his brother Amer bin Udai Go forth to this mosque whose people are wrongdoers, Demolish it and Burn it, so they left the army quickly, and then Malik bin Aldakhsham brought a palm frond and lit the fire in it from the house of his family, then they went out to the mosque and demolished and burned it. Then Allah commanded His Messenger to pray in His mosque (Almasjid Alnabawi), which was founded from the first day on righteousness, obedience to Allah, gathering of the believers, and a stronghold for Islam and it people, and Allah says that His mosque is more worthy that He prays therein, and as narrated by Abu Sa'id Alkhudri: "Two men disagreed over the Masjid which was founded on righteousness from the first day, a man said it is Masjid Quba', and the other said it is the Masjid of the Messenger of Allah, so Allah's Messenger said it is this Masjid of Mine" (Jami' Altirmidhi 3099), and as narrated from Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman from Abdul-Rahman bin Abi Sa'id Alkhudri that his father said: "I went to Allah's Messenger as He was in the house of one of His wives, and said Messenger of Allah! Which of the two mosques is founded on righteousness?, thereupon, He took a handful of pebbles and threw them on the ground and then He said it is this mosque of yours, Masjid Almadinah" (Sahih Muslim 1398).

Then Allah praised those who used to pray in Masjid Almadinah saying within it are men who love to purify themselves through performing ablution (Wudu') perfectly, washing off the traces of feces and urine, and putting off impure cloths, and Allah loves the purified ones who purify themselves and their clothes from all impurities, and save themselves from Allah's Punishment, where as narrated by Ibn Abbas: "The Prophet once passed by two graves and said these two persons are being tortured not for a major sin, one of them never saved himself from being soiled with his urine, while the other used to go about with malicious gossip, the Prophet then took a green leaf of a date-palm tree, split it into two halves, and stuck one in each grave, they said O Allah's Messenger! Why did You do this?, He said I hope that they would lighten (the punishment) from them as long as they do not become dry" (Sahih Albukhari 18).

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (109,110) "Then Is he who has founded his building on righteousness from Allah and pleasure better or he who has founded his building on the edge of a cliff about to collapse, so it collapsed with Him into the fire of Hellfire?, and Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people, their building which they built will not cease to be a doubt in their hearts until their hearts are cut off, and Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise", that is, he who has founded his building on righteousness, obedience, and pleasure of Allah is not equal to the one who has founded his building for causing harm, disbelief, and division among the believers, so the believers who have built their mosque on obedience to Allah are not equal to the hypocrites who have built their mosque (Masjid Aldirar) on hypocrisy and misguidance; for they are like the one who has built his building on the edge of a cliff about to collapse, so his building was quickly demolished by the torrents, so their mosque will collapse with them into the fire of Hellfire on the day of resurrection, and Allah does not guide the hypocrites who have wronged themselves with hypocrisy and disbelief. And their mosque which they built will not cease to be a doubt and a hypocrisy in their hearts until their hearts are cut off by their death, so they will remain in their doubt and hypocrisy until the end of their lives, and Allah is All-Knower of their affairs as nothing is hidden from Him in the heavens or on the earth, the All-Wise who manages His creation with wisdom in His laws and destiny.

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (111) "Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their wealth that for them is Paradise, they fight in the way of Allah, so they kill, and they are killed, a promise upon Him is true in the Torah and the Gospel and the Quran, and Who can fulfill his covenant more than Allah?, so Rejoice in your pledge of allegiance with which you have pledged, and that is the great success", that is, Allah has compensated His believing servants when they gave their souls and their wealth in the way of Allah with Paradise, so out of His grace and generosity, He has purchased from the believers their lives and their wealth that for them is Paradise for they fight in the way of Allah, and they killed the enemies of Allah or are killed in the way of Allah, then Paradise is due for them, and this is a true promise upon Allah which He has wrote upon Himself and sent it down to His Messengers in the Torah revealed to the Prophet Moses, the Gospel revealed to the Prophet Jesus, and the Holy Quran revealed to the Prophet Muhammad, Peace be upon them all, and who can fulfill his covenant than Allah?, assuredly, there is none is more faithful to his promise than Allah, thereupon, Allah gave the believers glad tidings of their pledge of allegiance which they have pledged to Him saying Rejoice in your pledge of allegiance with which you have pledged, and that is the great success and the eternal bliss in Paradise.

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (112) "Those who repent, those who worship, those who praise, those who fast, those who bow, those who prostrate, those who enjoin the right and those who forbid from the wrong, and those who observe the limits of Allah, and Give glad tidings to the believers", that is, Allah describes the believers from whom He has bought their souls and their wealth with a noble and a good characteristics saying that they are those who repent from all sin and avoid evil deeds, those who worship Allah sincerely in words and deeds, those who praise Allah in every situation, in good times and bad, so they are satisfied with Allah's decree, those who fast and abandon the pleasures of the worldly life such as food, drink, and sexual intercourse for the sake of Allah, those who bow and prostrate in the obligatory prayers and supererogatory prayers, those who enjoin the right as they invite the people to worship Allah alone and to act in obedience to Him, and they forbid from the wrong as they forbid associating partners with Allah, and acting in disobedience to Him, and those who observe the limits of Allah and adhere to His commands and prohibitions, so they do not neglect anything that He has commanded them to do, and do not commit anything that He has forbidden them to do, then Allah commanded His Messenger to give glad tidings to the believers who have these noble characteristics of Allah's mercy and pleasure.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (113,114) "It is not for the Prophet and those who have believed to ask forgiveness for the polytheists even if they were near of kin after it has become clear to them that they are the companions of the Hell, and the request of forgiveness of Abraham for His father was only because of a promise He had made to him, but when it became clear to Him that he was an enemy to Allah, He disavowed him, indeed, Abraham was submissive and forbearing", that is, Allah has forbidden His Messenger and the believers from asking forgiveness for the polytheists even if they were near of kin after it has become clear to them that they are the companions of the Hell; Because they had died on polytheism and worshipping idols, so it is not for them to ask forgiveness for the polytheists even if they were their fathers and their mothers, and as narrated by Almusaiyab: "When Abu Talib's death approached, the Prophet (PBUH) went to him while Abu Jahl and Abdullah bin Abi Umaiya were present with him, the Prophet said O uncle! Say there is no god but Allah, so that I may argue for your case with it before Allah, on that Abu Jahl and Abdullah bin Abu Umaiya said O Abu Talib! Do you want to renounce Abdul-Muttalib's religion?, then The Prophet said I will keep on asking forgiveness for you unless I am forbidden to do so, then there was revealed It is not for the Prophet and those who have believed to ask forgiveness for the polytheists even if they were near of kin after it has become clear to them that they are the companions of the Hell" (Sahih Albukhari 4675).

And as narrated by Abu Hurayrah: "The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) visited the grave of His mother, and He wept, and made those around Him weep, and said I asked My Lord for permission to ask forgiveness for her, but He did not give Me permission, and I asked His permission to visit her grave, and He gave Me permission, so Visit the graves for it reminds of death" (Sahih Muslim 976 b). Then Allah assures that the Prophet Abraham has asked forgiveness for His father while he was a polytheist, and his request of forgiveness for His father was only because of a promise He had made to him when He called His father to believe in Allah and abandon the idols he worshipped besides Allah, but His father refused except disbelief and said to Him if You do not desist, I will surely stone You, so leave me for a prolonged time, but the prophet Abraham promised him that He will ask forgiveness for him saying peace be upon you, I will ask forgiveness for you from My Lord, indeed, He is Gracious to Me as mentioned in Aya (46,47) of Surat Maryam, but when Abraham's father died on disbelief, it became clear to Abraham that His father is an enemy to Allah, thereupon, He disavowed His father, indeed, Abraham is submissive and frequently supplicates Allah, and forbearing with those who wronged Him, and caused harm to Him.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (115,116) "And Allah was not to lead a people astray after He has guided them until He makes clear to them what they should fear, indeed, Allah is All-Knower of everything, indeed, to Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, He gives life and causes death, and you have not besides Allah any protector or any helper", that is, Allah was not to lead a people astray after He has guided them to faith and guidance until He makes clear to them His prohibitions and what they should avoid and fear, so Allah has made clear to the believers that it is not for them to ask forgiveness for the polytheists for they are enemies to Allah, so Obey Allah's commands and Avoid His prohibitions lest Allah leads you astray after He has guided you, and Allah is All-Knower of everything as nothing is hidden from Him in the heavens nor on the earth, and He knows best who deserves guidance, and who deserves misguidance. Then Allah assures that He is the One who possesses the authority of whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, and He gives life to whom He wills, and causes death to whom He wills, and that the believers have neither a Protector nor a Helper besides Allah if He wants to inflict a punishment upon them.

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (117) "Allah has turned to the Prophet and the Muhajireen and the Ansar who followed Him in the hour of hardship after the hearts of a party of them had almost deviated, and then He has turned to them, indeed, He is to them Most Kind, Most Merciful", that is, Allah has turned in mercy and forgiveness to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and the Muhajireen who went out as emigrants in the way of Allah, and left their homelands, families, and friends after they have been wronged for the sake of Allah and His Messenger, and for the support of Allah's religion, and the people of Medina whom Allah has named the Ansar when they supported Allah's Messenger when He emigrated from Mecca after His people opposed Him, and Allah has turned in forgiveness to the Muhajireen and the Ansar because they followed Allah's Messenger in the hour of hardship in the Battle of Tabuk, where they went out in a barren year, intense heat, and hardship for food and water, so Allah gave them provision and water from His bounty after the hearts of a party of them had almost deviated and began to doubt in their religion due to the hardship they faced, but Allah has turned to them in mercy and forgiveness and granted them steadfastness in their religion, and that was out of His Mercy and compassion for His believing servants, where as narrated by Abu Hurayrah or Abu Sa'id Alkhudri: "During the Battle of Tabuk, the men suffered starvation, they said O Messenger of Allah! Would You permit us to slay our camels?, we would eat them and use their fat, the Messenger of Allah said Do as you please, the narrator said, then Umar came there and said O Messenger of Allah! If You do that, the riding animals will decrease, but Call them to bring the provision left with them, then Invoke Allah's blessings on them, hopefully, Allah shall bless them, the Messenger of Allah replied in the affirmative, He called for a leather mat and spread it out, then He called people along with the remaining portions of their provision, the narrator said someone came with a handful of corn, another was coming with a handful of dates, still another was coming with a portion of bread, till small quantities of these things were collected on the leather mat, the narrator said then the Messenger of Allah called for blessing on them, and said Fill your utensils with these provision, the narrator said they filled their vessels to the brim with them, and no one amongst the army was left even with a single empty vessel, the narrator said, they ate to their fill, and there was still a surplus, upon this the Messenger of Allah said I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah, the servant who meets Allah without harboring any doubt about these two, would never be kept away from Paradise" (Sahih Muslim 27 b).

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (118,119) "And to the three who were remained behind to the point that the earth was straitened for them despite its vastness, and their souls were straitened for them and they were certain that there is no refuge from Allah except in Him, then He turned to them so that they may repent, indeed, Allah is Ever accepting of repentance, the Most Merciful, O you who have believed! Fear Allah and Be among the truthful", that is, Allah also has turned in mercy and forgiveness to the three whom He deferred until His command of punishment or forgiveness as shown above in Aya (106) when they remained behind Allah's Messenger (PBUH) in the Battle of Tabuk without any excuse, and they were Ka'b bin Malik, Murara bin Alrabi' Alamri, and Hilal bin Umayyah alwaqifi, where as narrated by Abdullah bin Ka'b bin Malik who was the guide of Ka'b bin Malik from among his sons when he became blind that he said I heard Ka'b bin Malik narrating the story of Tabuk in which he remained behind the Messenger of Allah, so Ka'b bin Malik said: "I did not remain behind Allah's Messenger in any Battle that He fought except the Battle of Tabuk, and I remained behind in the Battle of Badr, but Allah did not blame anyone who had remained behind it for Allah's Messenger had gone out in search of the caravan of Quraish till Allah made them and their enemy meet without any appointment, and I witnessed the night of Alaqaba pledge with Allah's Messenger when we pledged for Islam, and I would not exchange it for the Badr Battle although the Badr Battle is more mentioned and popular amongst the people than it.

As for my news when I remained behind Allah's Messenger in the Battle of Tabuk, I had never been stronger or wealthier than I was when I remained behind the Prophet in that Battle, By Allah! Never I had two she-camels before, but I had them at the time of this Battle, whenever Allah's Messenger wanted to invade a battle, He used to hide His intention by apparently referring to different battle, but at the time of that battle which Allah's Messenger invaded in sever heat, facing a long journey and desert, and facing a great number of enemy, Allah's Messenger announced the Muslims clearly their affair, so that they might get prepared for meeting their enemy, so He informed them clearly of the destination He was going to. Allah's Messenger was accompanied by a large number of Muslims who could not be listed in a book, namely, a register, Ka'b said, any man who intended to be absent would think that the matter would remain hidden unless Allah revealed it through Divine Revelation, so Allah's Messenger invaded at the time when the fruits had ripened and the shade looked pleasant, Allah's Messenger and His companions prepared for the battle, and I started to go out in order to get myself ready along with them, but I returned without doing anything, I would say to myself I can do that, so I kept on delaying it every now and then till the people get ready and Allah's Messenger and the Muslims along with Him departed, and I had not prepared anything for my departure, and I said I will prepare myself one or two days after Him, and then join them.

In the morning following their departure, I went out to get myself ready, but returned having done nothing, then again in the next morning, I went out to get ready but returned without doing anything, such was the case with me till they hurried away, and the battle was missed, even then, I intended to depart to take them over, I wish I had done so! But it was not in my luck. After the departure of Allah's Messenger, whenever I went out and walked amongst the people, it grieved me that I could not see none around me but one accused of hypocrisy or one of those weak men whom Allah had excused. Allah's Messenger did not remember me till He reached Tabuk, so while He was sitting amongst the people in Tabuk, He said What did Ka'b do?, A man from Banu Salama said O Allah's Messenger! He had been stopped by his two Burdas (i.e. garments) and his looking at his own flanks with pride, then Mu'adh bin Jabal said What a bad thing you have said By Allah! O Allah's Messenger! We know nothing about him but good. Allah's Messenger kept silent, Ka'b bin Malik added, when I heard that Allah's Messenger was on His way back from Tabuk, I got dipped in my concern, and began to think of false excuses saying to myself How can I avoid His anger tomorrow?, And I took the advice of wise member of my family in this matter, when it was said that Allah's Messenger had come near, all the evil false excuses abandoned from my mind, and I knew well that I could never come out of this problem by forging a false statement, then I decided firmly to speak the truth, so Allah's Messenger arrived in the morning, and whenever He returned from a journey, He used to visit the mosque first of all and offer two rak'ahs therein, and then sit for the people.

So when He had done all that, those who have remained behind came and started offering excuses and taking oaths before Him, they were ranging from eighty-three to eighty-nine men, Allah's Messenger accepted the excuses they had expressed, and asked forgiveness for them, and He left their secrets to Allah till I came to Him, and when I greeted Him, He smiled a smile of an angry person, and said Come on, so I came walking till I sat before Him, He said to me What stopped you from joining Us, Had you not purchased an animal for carrying you?, I answered yes O Allah's Messenger! But By Allah! If I were sitting before any person from among the people of the world other than You, I would have avoided his anger with an excuse, By Allah! I have been given the power of speaking eloquently, but By Allah! I knew well that if today I tell You a lie to seek your pleasure, Allah would surely make You angry with me in the near future, but if I tell You the truth, though You will get angry because of it, I hope for Allah's forgiveness, By Allah! There was no excuse for me, By Allah! I had never been stronger or wealthier than I was when I remained behind You, then Allah's Messenger said as for this man, he has told the truth, so Get up till Allah decides your case, I got up, and many men of Banu Salama followed me and said to me By Allah! We never witnessed you doing any sin before this, surely, you failed to offer excuse to Allah's Messenger as the others who did not join Him have offered, the prayer of Allah's Messenger to Allah to forgive you would have been sufficient for you, By Allah! They continued blaming me so much that I intended to return and accuse myself of having told a lie, but I said to them, Is there anyone else who has met the same fate as I have?, They replied yes there are two men who have said the same thing as you have, and to both of them was given the same order as given to you, I said Who are they?, They replied Murara bin Alrabi' Alamri and Hilal bin Umaiya Alwaqifi, by that they mentioned to me two righteous men who had attended the Battle of Badr, and in whom there was an example for me, so I did not change my mind when they mentioned them to me.

Allah's Messenger forbade all the Muslims to talk to us, the three aforesaid persons out of all those who had remained behind Him, so we kept away from the people, and they changed their attitude towards us till the very land appeared strange to me as if I did not know it, we remained in that condition for fifty nights. As regard for my two fellows, they remained in their houses and kept on weeping, but I was the youngest of them and the firmest of them, so I used to go out and witness the prayers along with the Muslims, and roam about in the markets, but none would talk to me, and I would came to Allah's Messenger and greet Him while He was sitting in His gathering after the prayer, and I would wonder whether He did move His lips in return to my greeting or not, then I would offer my prayer near to Him and look at Him stealthily, when I was busy with my prayer, He would turn His face towards me, but when I turned my face to Him, He would turn His face away from me. When this harsh attitude of the people lasted long, I walked till I scaled the wall of the garden of Abu Qatada who was my cousin, and dearest person to me, and I offered my greeting to him, By Allah! He did not return my greeting, I said O Abu Qatada! I beseech you by Allah! Do you know that I love Allah and His Messenger?, He kept quiet, I asked him again, beseeching him by Allah, but he remained silent, then I besought him again, he said Allah and His Messenger know best. thereupon, my eyes flowed with tears and I returned and jumped over the wall, Ka'b added, while I was walking in the market of Medina, I saw a Nabati (Christian farmer) from the Nabatis of Sham who came to sell his grains in Medina saying Who will lead me to Ka'b bin Malik?, the people began to point me out to him till he came to me and handed me a letter from the king of Ghassan in which the following was written "To proceed, I have been informed that your friend (i.e. Allah's Messenger) has treated you harshly, anyhow, Allah does not let you live at a place where you feel inferior and your right is lost, so Join us, and we will console you", when I read it, I said to myself this is also a sort of a test, then I took the letter to the oven and made a fire therein by burning it.

When forty out of the fifty nights elapsed, behold! There came to me the messenger from Allah's Messenger and said Allah's Messenger orders you to keep away from your wife, I said Should I divorce her or else, What should I do?, he said no only Keep aloof from her and Do not cohabit her, the Messenger of Allah sent the same message to my two fellows, then I said to my wife Go to your parents and Remain with them till Allah gives His verdict in this matter, Ka'b added, the wife of Hilal bin Umaiya came to Allah's Messenger and said O Allah's Messenger! Hilal bin Umaiya is a helpless old man who has no servants to attend on him, Do You dislike that I should serve him?, He said no, but he should not come near you, she said By Allah! He has no desire for anything, By Allah! He has never ceased weeping till his case began till this day of his, some of my family said to me Will you also ask Allah's Messenger to permit your wife as He has permitted the wife of Hilal bin Umaiya to serve him?, I said By Allah! I will not ask the permission of Allah's Messenger regarding her, for I do not know what Allah's Messenger would say if I asked Him to permit her while I am a young man. Then I remained in that condition for ten more nights after that till the period of fifty nights was completed starting from the time when Allah's Messenger forbade the people from talking to us, when I have offered the Fajr Prayer (The dawn) on the fiftieth morning on the roof of one of our houses and while I was sitting in the condition which Allah described about us as my soul was straitened for me, and the earth was straitened for me despite its vastness, I heard the voice of one who has ascended the mountain of Sala' calling with his loudest voice, O Ka'b bin Malik! Take glad tidings, I fell down in prostration before Allah, and I knew that relief has come. Allah's Messenger has announced that Allah has turned in mercy and forgiveness to us when He had offered the Fajr prayer, the people then went out to congratulate us, some bearers of glad tidings went out to my two fellows, and a horseman came to me in haste, and a man from Banu Salama came running and ascended the mountain, and his voice was swifter than the horse.

When he whose voice I had heard came to me conveying the glad tidings, I took off my garments and dressed him with them, and By Allah! I owned no other garments than them on that day, then I borrowed two garments and wore them and went to Allah's Messenger, the people started receiving me in batches, congratulating me on Allah's acceptance of my repentance saying we congratulate you on Allah's acceptance of your repentance till I entered the mosque, then behold! I saw Allah's Messenger sitting with the people around Him, Talha bin Ubaidullah swiftly came to me, shook hands with me and congratulated me, By Allah! None of the Muhajireen got up for me except him, so Ka'b did not forget this for Talha, Ka'b added when I greeted Allah's Messenger, He said while His face being bright with joy Take glad tidings with the best day that you have got ever since your mother delivered you, Ka'b added, I said Is this from you O Allah's Messenger or from Allah?, He said, no it is from Allah, whenever Allah's Messenger became happy, His face would shine as if it were a piece of moon, and we all knew that characteristic of Him, when I sat before Him, I said O Allah's Messenger! Because of the acceptance of my repentance I will give up all my wealth as charity for the sake of Allah and His Messenger, Allah's Messenger said Keep some of your wealth as it will be better for you, I said so I will keep my share from Khaiber with me, and added, O Allah's Messenger! Allah has saved me for telling the truth, so it is a part of my repentance not to tell but the truth as along as I am alive. By Allah! I do not know anyone of the Muslims whom Allah has helped for telling the truth more than me, since I have mentioned that truth to Allah's Messenger till today, I have never intended to tell a lie, I hope that Allah will also save me the rest of my life.

Ka'b added, and Allah Almighty revealed "Allah has turned to the Prophet and the Muhajireen and the Ansar who followed Him in the hour of hardship after the hearts of a party of them had almost deviated, and then He has turned to them, indeed, He is to them Most Kind, Most Merciful, and to the three who were remained behind to the point that the earth was straitened for them despite its vastness, and their souls were straitened for them and they were certain that there is no refuge from Allah except in Him, then He turned to them so that they may repent, indeed, Allah is Ever accepting of repentance, the Most Merciful, O you who have believed! Fear Allah and Be among the truthful", By AllahAllah has never bestowed upon me, after He has guided me to Islam, a blessing greater in my soul than my truthfulness to Allah's Messenger (PBUH) on that day, and that I did not tell a lie to Him, so I would have perished as those who have told a lie perished, for Allah described those who told a lie with the worst description He ever attributed to anybody else, Allah Almighty said "They will swear by Allah to you when you return to them so that you turn away from them, so Turn away from them, indeed, they are filth, and their abode is Hellfire as a recompense for what they used to earn, they swear to you so that you might be pleased with them, but if you should be pleased with them, indeed, Allah will not be pleased with the disobedient people". K'ab added, we, the three persons, were deferred altogether from those whose excuses Allah's Messenger accepted when they swore to Him, He took their pledge of allegiance and asked Allah to forgive them, but Allah's Messenger left our case pending till Allah gave His judgment about it, as for that Allah said "And to the three who were remained behind", and His description of our remaining behind and His deferring of our matter which He has stated of deferring us does not indicate our remaining behind the Battle, but rather it refers to the deferment of making a decision by the Prophet about our case in contrast to the case of those who had taken an oath before Him and offered excuses to Him, and He accepted their excuses" (Sahih Albukhari 4418).

Thereupon, Ka'b bin Malik, Murara bin Alrabi' Alamri, and Hilal bin Umayyah alwaqifi were saved from Allah's Punishment and from joining the hypocrites by their truthfulness to Allah's Messenger, so Allah commanded the believers to fear Him and fear His punishment and to be among the truthful, so that they will be saved from His punishment and that He will provide them with a relief from their matter and a way out, and Allah's Messenger said in narration of Abdullah bin Mas'ud: "You must tell the truth, for the truth leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise, and the man will continue to tell the truth and endeavors to tell the truth until he is recorded as a truthful with Allah, and Beware of lying, for lying leads to immorality, and immorality leads to Hell, and the servant will continue to tell the lie, and endeavors to tell the lie until he is recorded as a liar with Allah" (Sahih Muslim 2607 c).

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (120,121) "It was not for the people of Medina and those around them of the Bedouins that they remain behind the Messenger of Allah, or that they prefer themselves over Himself, that is because they will not be afflicted by thirst or fatigue or hunger in the way of Allah, nor will they tread on any place that would enrage the disbelievers, nor will they inflict upon an enemy any infliction except that is recorded for them as a righteous deed, indeed, Allah does not waste the reward of the good doers, nor will they spend an expenditure, small or large, nor will they cross a valley except that is recorded for them, so that Allah may reward them for the best of what they used to do", that is, Allah assures that if Allah's Messenger intended to wage Jihad in the way of Allah, no man has the right to remain behind Him unless he had an excuse, so Allah says it was not for the people of Medina and those around them of the Bedouins that they remain behind Allah's Messenger in the Battle of Tabuk, or that they prefer themselves over Himself as they leave Him in hardship, and do not assist Him in what He suffered during the Battle, therefore, they deprived themselves from a great reward, that is because they will not be afflicted by thirst, fatigue, or hunger in the way of Allah and in supporting the religion of Allah, nor will they tread on any place that would enrage, terrify, and humiliate the disbelievers such as invading their homes and expelling them from it, nor will they inflict an infliction and gain victory over the enemy of Allah and their enemy by killing, captivity, or obtaining spoils, except that all will be recorded as a righteous deed for them, indeed, Allah does not waste the reward of the good doers who worship Allah as if they see Him, and if they can not see Him, then Allah sees them, so they act according to Allah's commands and prohibitions.

Nor will they spend a small or a large expenditure in the way of Allah nor will they cross a valley on their way to the enemy, and the farther the distance, the greater the reward, except that is recorded for them as a righteous deed, and Allah will give them their reward in the Hereafter for the best of what they have done in the worldly life, and will overlook their evil deeds, and Allah's Messenger said in narration of Abu Hurayrah: "The horses are a reward for a man, a shelter for a man, and a burden for a man, as he to whom the horses are a reward, is the one who keeps them in the way of Allah, and ties them by a long rope in a pasture, so as long as the rope allows them to eat in the pasture or the garden, they will be good deeds for him, and if the rope is cut, and they crossed one or two hills, then all their footsteps and their dung will be good deeds for him, and if they passed by a river and drank from it even if he had no intention to watering them, that will be good deeds for him, so they are a reward, and a man tied them as a shelter from poverty and for earning his living so as not to ask others, and at the same time he did not forget the right of Allah therein, and did not overburden them, so they are a shelter for him, and a man tied it just of pride, showing off, and harming of the people of Islam, so on that they are a burden for him, and when Allah's Messenger was asked about donkeys, He said nothing particular was revealed to Me regarding them except this general unique verse, so whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it" (Sahih Albukhari 2371).

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (122,123) "And it is not for the believers to go forth all together, so Why was there not a section from every group of them goes forth, so that they may obtain understanding in the religion and warn their people when they return to them that they may be cautious, O you who have believed! Fight those who are adjacent to you of the disbelievers and let them find in you harshness, and Know that Allah is with the righteous", that is, it is not for the believers to remain behind Allah's Messenger when He intends to go forth for Jihad in the way of Allah without any excuse as shown above in Aya (120), but when the Messenger of Allah sends an army or a detachment to wage Jihad in the way of Allah, so it is not for the believers to go forth altogether and leave Allah's Messenger alone in Medina, but there should a section from every group goes forth for Jihad, and a group remains in Medina with Allah's Messenger so that they may obtain understanding in the religion and know what Allah has sent down upon His Messenger, until when those who have gone forth for Jihad return to their homes, the residents with Allah's Messenger will teach them and warn them what they had taught from Allah's Messenger, so that they may be cautious and know the limits of Allah and the rulings of Sharia lest they fall into what Allah has forbidden. Then Allah commanded the believers to fight those who are adjacent to them of the disbelievers, so they should start with the closest enemy, then the closest, and that the disbelievers should find harshness, strength, and fervor in the Muslims, then Allah reassured the believers again, as in Aya (36), by saying and Know that Allah is with the righteous, so He is with them and will help them if they put their trust in Him, fear Him, and fear His punishment by obeying His commands and avoiding His prohibitions. Therefore, Allah's Messenger began fighting the polytheists in the Arabian Peninsula, and when He finished and conquered Mecca, Taif, Hajar, Khaibar,Yemen, and other regions of the Arabian Peninsula, then He went out in the ninth year of the Hijrah in the Battle of Tabuk in order to fight the people of the scripture, and prepared to attack the Romans who were the closest people to the Arabian Peninsula, then the Caliphs Abu Bakr, Umar bin Alkhattab, and Uthman completed the way of Jihad in the way of Allah, and whenever they defeated a nation, they moved on to another, so they conquered the lands of Persian, Roman, and Jerusalem, and Islam appeared in the west and the east of the earth.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (124,125) ''And whenever a Surah is sent down, there are among them those who say Which of you has this increased him in faith?, as for those who have believed, it has increased them in faith while they are rejoicing, but as for those in whose hearts is disease, it has increased them in filth to their filth, and they have died while they are disbelievers'', that is, When Allah has sent down a Surah of the Holy Quran upon His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH), there are among the hypocrites those who say to each other Which of you has this Surah increased him in faith and believing in Allah and His verses?, as for the believers, whenever Allah has sent down a Surah, it has increased them in faith while they are rejoicing in what Allah has given them of the truth and certainty, so they acted according to Allah's obligations, limits, and rulings, and thus their faith in Allah has increased. Thereupon, adhering to the Holy Quran and implementing to its obligations and prohibitions is a great way to increase a person's faith, while abandoning the Holy Quran and disrupting its rulings is a grave way of diminishing the faith of anyone. But as for those in whose hearts are hypocrisy and doubt about the religion of Allah, whenever Allah has sent down a Surah, it has increased them in filth to their filth, doubt to their doubt, disbelief to their disbelief, and they have died while they are disbelievers in Allah, His Messenger, and His verses.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (126,127) "Do they not see that they are tried every year once or twice, but then they do not repent nor are they reminded?, and whenever a Surah is sent down, they looked at each other, Does anyone see you?, and then they have gone away, Allah has turned away their hearts because they are a people who do not understand'', that is, Do those in whose hearts are hypocrisy and doubt not see that Allah puts them in a trial once or twice every year with some afflictions so that they may be reminded, but they did not repent from their sins nor are they reminded by the trials in which they are placed, and whenever a Surah is sent down to Allah's Messenger, and they were present with Allah's Messenger while He was reciting it to the believers, they looked at each other and looked around saying Does anyone see you?, then they left, slipping away from the gathering, therefore, Allah has turned away their hearts from the truth because they are a people who do not understand as they do not accept the truth, nor do they stand firm in it, nor do they establish it out of their hypocrisy and arrogance.

Allah Almighty says in the last two verses (128,129) "There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves, Grievous to Him is what you suffered, Keen on you, and to the believers is kind, merciful, but if they turn away, then Say Allah is Sufficient for Me, there is no god but He, upon Him I have put My trust, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne'', that is, Allah addresses the Arabs saying there has certainly came to you a Messenger from among yourselves in the language you understand, and you know His Honest, His truthfulness, and His lineage, which is the most honorable lineage, where as narrated by Wathilah bin Alasqa': "I heard Allah's Messenger as saying verily Allah has granted eminence to Kinana from among the descendants of Ismail, and He granted eminence to Quraish from among Kinana, and He granted eminence to Banu Hashim from among Quraish, and He granted Me eminence from Banu Hashim" (Sahih Muslim 2276). Then Allah assures that it was grievous to Allah's Messenger what His people suffered of hardships, and He was keen on their guidance, their repentance, and their return to the truth, and that He is kind and merciful to the believers, then Allah addresses His Messenger saying if His people have turned away and did not accept what He had brought them from His Lord, then Say Allah is Sufficient for Me, and Allah alone is worthy of worship as there is no God but Him, so I believe in what you disbelieve in, and I single Him out of Divinity and monotheism, and I rely upon Him in all affairs, and He is the Lord of the great throne.

These two verses were lost at the time of collecting the Holy Quran, and were found with Khuzaima Alansari, where as narrated by Zaid bin Tabit Alansari who was one of those who used to write the Divine Revelation: "Abu Bakr sent for me after the casualties among the warriors of the Battle of Yamamah, and Umar was present with him, Abu Bakr said Umar has come to me and said the people have suffered heavy casualties on the day of Yamamah, and I am afraid that there will be more casualties among the Qurra', those who know the Quran by heart, at other battlefields, whereby a large part of Quran may be lost unless you collect it, and I am of the opinion that you should collect the Quran, Abu Bakr added I said to Umar How can I do something which Allah's Messenger has not done?, Umar said By Allah! It is a good thing, so Umar kept on pressing, trying to persuade me to accept his proposal, till Allah opened my breast for it, and I had the same opinion as Umar. Zaid bin Thabit added, Umar was sitting with him and was not speaking, then Abu Bakr said to me you are a wise young man and we do not suspect you, and you used to write the Divine Inspiration for Allah's Messenger, therefore, Look for the Quran and Collect it, By Allah! If he ordered me to shift one of the mountains, it would not have been harder for me than what he had ordered me concerning the collection of the Quran. I said to both of them How dare you do a thing which the Prophet had not done?, Abu Bakr said By Allah! It is a good thing, so I kept on arguing with him about it till Allah opened my breast for that which He had opened the breasts of Abu Bakr and Umar. So I started locating Quranic material and collecting it from parchments, scapula, leaf-stalks of date palms, and from the memories of men, I found with Khuzaima Alansari two verses of Surat Altawbah which I had not found with anyone else "There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves, Grievous to Him is what you suffered, Keen on you" till the end of both of them. The manuscript on which the Quran was collected remained with Abu Bakr till Allah took him unto Him, and then with Umar till Allah took him unto Him, and finally it remained with Hafsa, Umar's daughter" (Sahih Albukhari 4679).

No one Knows its interpretation except Allah
