8- Surat Alanfal

75 Verses  Maddani (revealed in Medina)

A'auzu Bellahi mena alshaiytani alrajeem

I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan

Besmi Ellahi Alrhmani Alraheem

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Yas'aluonaka ani alanfali quli alanfaluo le-llahi wa alrasuli fa-ttaquo Allaha wa aslehuo zata baiynekum wa ate-uo Allaha wa rasulahuo in kuntum mu'meneen (1).
They ask You about the spoils, Say the spoils are for Allah and the Messenger, so Fear Allah and Reform that which is between you, and Obey Allah and His Messenger if you are believers.

Innama almu'menuona allazina iza zukera Allahu wajelat qulubuhum wa iza tuliyat alaiyhim ayatuhuo zadat-hum imanan wa ala Rabbehim yatawakkaluon (2).
The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts fear, and when His verses are recited to them, it will increase them in faith, and upon their Lord they put their trust.

Allazina yuqemuona alsalata wa memma razaqnahum younfequon (3).
Those who establish the prayer and
they spend from what We have provided them.

Aulaeka humuo almu'menuona haqqan lahum darajatun enda Rabbehim wa maghferatun wa rezqun kareem (4).
Those are the believers in reality, for them there are degrees with their Lord and forgiveness and a noble provision.

Kama akhrajaka Rabbuka men baiyteka bel-haqqi wa inna fareeqan mena almu'meneena la-karehuon (5).
Just as when Your Lord brought You out of Your home in truth, while indeed, a party among the believers were averse.

Yajadeluonaka fee alhaqqi ba'da ma tabayyana ka-annama yousaquona ela almawti wa hum yanzuruon (6).
Arguing with You concerning the truth after it had become clear, as if they were being driven to death while they were looking.

Wa iz ya'edukumuo Allahu ehda alta-efataiyni annaha lakum wa tawadduona anna ghaiyra zati alshawkati takunuo lakum wa youreduo Allahu an youheqqa alhaqqa be-kalematehi wa yaqta'a dabera alkafereen (7).
And when Allah promised you one of the two groups, that it would be for you, and
you wished that one other than of the armed would be for you, but Allah intended to establish the truth by His words and cut off the root of the disbelievers.

Le-yuheqqa alhaqqa wa youbtela albatela wa laww kareha almujremuon (8).
That He establishes the truth and nullifies the falsehood even if the criminals dislike.

Iz tastaghethuona Rabbakum fa-stajaba lakum anni mumeddukum be-alfin mena almalaekati murdefeen (9).
When you called for help from Your Lord, and He answered you, indeed, I will reinforce you with a thousand from the Angels in succession.

Wa ma ja'alahu Allahu ella bushra wa le-tatma-enna behi qulubukum wa ma alnasruo ella men endi ellahi inna Allaha Azeezun Hakeem (10).
And Allah made it not but glad tidings and so that your hearts would be reassured thereby, and victory is not but from Allah, indeed, Allah is Almighty All-Wise.

Iz youghashshekumuo alnu-asa amanatan menhuo wa younazzeluo alaiykum mena alsama-e ma-an le-youtahherakum behi wa youzheba ankum rejza alshaiytani wa le-yarbeta ala qulubekum wa youthabbeta behi al-aqdam (11).
When He overwhelmed you with drowsiness, a security from Him, and sent down upon you from the sky, water, so that He may purify you with it, and remove from you the evil of Satan, and so that He may strengthen your hearts, and stabilize the feet thereby.

Iz yuhi Rabbuka ela almalaekati anni ma-akum fa-thabbetuo allazina amanuo sa-aulqi fee qulubi allazina kafaruo alru'ba fa-drebuo fawqa ala'naqi wa-drebuo menhum kulla banan (12).
When your Lord inspired to the Angels I am with you, so Strengthen those who have believed, I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieved, so Strike above the necks and Strike from them every fingertip.

Zaleka be-annahum shaqquo Allaha wa rasulahuo wa man youshaqeqi ellaha wa rasulahuo fa-inna Allaha shadeeduo al-eqab (13).
That is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger, and whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger, then indeed, Allah is Severe in punishment.

Zalekum fa-zuquhuo wa anna lel-kafereena azaba alnar (14).
That is yours, So Taste it, and that for the disbelievers is the punishment of the fire.

Ya-ayyuha allazina amanuo iza laqeetumuo allazina kafaruo zahfan fa-la tuwalluhumuo al-adbar (15).
O you who have believed! When you meet those who have disbelieved advancing, Do not turn to them the backs.

Wa man youwallehim yawma-izin duburahuo ella mutaharrifan le-qetalin aww mutahayyizan ela fe-atin fa-qad ba-a be-ghadabin mena Allahi wa ma'wahuo jahannamuo wa be'sa almaseer (16).
And whoever turns his back to them on that day unless maneuvering for fighting or joining a company has certainly returned with wrath from Allah, and his abode is Hellfire, and wretched is the fate.

Fa-lam taqtuluhum wa lakenna Allaha qatalahum wa ma ramaiyta iz ramaiyta wa lakenna Allaha rama wa le-youbliya almu'meneena menhuo bala-an hasanan inna Allaha Samee-on Aleem (17).
And you did not kill them, but Allah has killed them, and You did not throw when you has thrown, but Allah has thrown, and that He may test the believers with a good test from Him, indeed, Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knower.

Zalekum wa anna Allaha muhenuo kaiyda alkafereen (18).
That, and that Allah will weaken the plot of the disbelievers.

In tastaftehuo fa-qad ja-akumuo alfat-huo wa in tantahuo fa-huwa khaiyrun lakum wa in ta-auduo na'ud wa lan tughniya ankum fe-atukum shaiy-an wa laww kathurat wa anna Allaha ma-a almu'meneen (19).
If you seek the conquest, the conquest has come to you, and if you desist, it is better for you, but if you return, We will return, and your company will not avail you in anything, even if it is numerous, and indeed, Allah is with believers.

Ya-ayyuha allazina amanuo ate-uo Allaha wa rasulahu wa la tawallaww anhuo wa antum tasma-uon (20).
O you who have believed! Obey Allah and His Messenger and Do not turn away from Him while you are hearing.

Wa la takunuo ka-allazina qaluo same'na wa hum la yasma-uon (21)
.
And Do not be like those who say we have heard while they do not hear.

Inna sharra aldawabbi enda Allahi alsummuo albukmuo allazina la ya'qeluon (22).
Indeed, the worst of the moving creatures in the sight of Allah are the deaf and the dumb who do not understand.

Wa laww alema Allahu feehim khaiyran la-asma-ahum wa laww asma-ahum la-tawallaww wa hum mu'reduon (23).
Had Allah known any good in them, He would have made them hear, and if He had made them hear, they would have gone back while they are turning away.

Ya-ayyuha allazina amanuo estajeebuo le-llahi wa lel-rasuli iza da-akum lema yuhyikum wa'lamuo anna Allaha yahuluo baiyna almar-e wa qalbehi wa annahuo elaiyhi tuhsharuon (24).
O you who have believed! Respond to Allah and to the Messenger when He calls you to what gives you life, and Know that Allah intervenes between a man and his heart, and that to Him you will be gathered.

Wa-ttaquo fetnatan la tusebanna allazina zalamuo menkum khassatan wa'lamuo anna Allaha shadeeduo al-eqab (25).
And Fear a trial which will not strike those who have wronged among you exclusively, and Know that Allah is Severe in punishment.

Wa-zkuruo iz antum qaleelun mustad-afuona fe alardi takhafuona an yatakhattafakumuo alnasuo fa-awakum wa ayyadakum be-nasrehi wa razaqakum mena altayyibati la-allakum tashkuruon (26).
And Remember when you were few, and deemed weak in the land, fearing that the people may snatch you away, but He sheltered you and supported you with His victory, and provided you with the good things, so that you may give thanks.

Ya-ayyuha allazina amanuo la takhunuo Allaha wa alrasula wa takhunuo amanatekum wa antum ta'lamuon (27).
O you who have believed! Do not betray Allah and the Messenger and betray your trusts while you know.

Wa'lamuo annama amwalukum wa awladukum fetnatun wa anna Allaha endahuo ajrun azeem (28).
And Know that your wealth and you children are but a trial and that Allah has with Him a great reward.

Ya-ayyuha allazina amanuo in tattaquo Allaha yaj'al lakum furqanan wa youkaffir ankum sayyi-atekum wa yaghfir lakum wa Allahu zuo alfadli al-azeem (29).
O you who have believed! If you fear Allah, He will grant you a Criterion, and will
expiate from you your evil deeds, and will forgive you, and Allah is the Possessor of the great bounty.

Wa iz yamkuruo beka allazina kafaruo le-yuthbetuka aww yaqtuluka aww youkhrejuoka wa yamkuruona wa yamkuruo Allahu wa Allahu khaiyruo almakereen (30).
And when those who disbelieved plotted against You to restrain You or kill You or expel You, but they plot and Allah plots, and Allah is the Best of the plotters.

Wa iza tutla aliyhim ayatuna qaluo qad same'na laww nasha-uo la-qulna methla haza in haza ella asateeruo al-awwaleen (31).
And when Our verses are recited to them, they say indeed, we have heard, if we wish, we could surely say like this,
this is nothing but the legends of the former people.

Wa iz qaluo allahumma in kana haza huwa alhaqqa men endeka fa-amtir alaiyna hejaratan mena alsama-e awi e'tena be-azabin aleem (32).
And when they said O Allah! If this should be the truth from You, then rain down upon us stones from the sky or Bring us a painful punishment.

Wa ma kana Allahu le-you-azzebahum wa anta feehim wa ma kana Allahu le-you-azzebahum wa hum yastaghferuon (33).
But Allah would not punish them while You are among them, and Allah would not punish them while they seek forgiveness.

Wa ma lahum alla you-azzebahumuo Allahu wa hum yasudduona ani almasjidi alharami wa ma kanuo awliya-ahuo in awliya-uhuo ella almuttaquna wa lakenna aktharahum la ya'lamuon (34).
And What is with them that Allah
would not punish them while they prevent from the Sacred Mosque and they were not its guardians?, its guardians are not but the righteous, but most of them do not know.

Wa ma kana salatuhum enda albaiyti ella muka-an wa tasdiyatan fa-zuquo al-azaba bema kuntum takfuruon (35).
And their prayer at the House was not except whistling and clapping, so Taste the punishment
for what you used to disbelieve.

Inna allazina kafaruo younfequona amwalahum le-yasudduo an sabeeli ellahi fa-sa-younfequnaha thumma takunuo alaiyhim hasratan thumma yughlabuona wa allazina kafaruo ela jahannama youhsharuon (36).
Indeed, those who disbelieve spend their wealth to prevent from the way of Allah, so they will spend it, then it will be for them a regret, then they will be defeated, and those who have disbelieved, to Hellfire they will be gathered.

Le-yameeza Allahu alkhabeetha mena altayyibi wa yaj'ala alkhabeetha ba'dahu ala ba'din fa-yarkumahu jamee-an fa-yaj'alahuo fee jahannama aulaeka humuo alkhaseruon (37).
So that Allah may distinguish the wicked from the good, and place the wicked some of them upon others, and heap them all together, and put them into Hellfire, those are the losers.

Qul le-llazina kafaruo in yantahuo youghfar lahum ma qad salafa wa in ya-uduo fa-qad madat sunnatuo al-awwaleen (38).
Say to those who have disbelieved if they desist, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for them, but if they return, then indeed,
the rule of the former people has already passed.

Wa qateluhum hatta la takuna fetnatun wa yakuna aldeenuo kulluhuo le-llahi fa-ini entahaww fa-inna Allaha be-ma ya'maluona baseer (39).
And Fight them until there is no trial, and the religion, all of it, becomes for Allah, and if they desist, then indeed, Allah is All-Seeing of what they do.

Wa-in tawallaww fa'lamuo anna Allaha mawlakum ne'ma Almawla wa ne'ma Alnaseer (40).
But if they turn away, then Know that Allah is your Protector, Excellent is the Protector and Excellent is the Helper.

Wa'lamuo annama ghanemtum men shaiy-in fa-anna le-llahi khumusahuo wa lel-rasuli wa le-zee alqurba wa alyatama wa almasakeeni wa-bni alsabeeli in kuntum amantum be-llahi wa ma anzalna ala abdena yawma alfurqani yawma eltaqa aljam-ani wa Allahu ala kulli shaiy-in qadeer (41).
And Know that anything you obtain as spoils, then indeed, for Allah is one fifth of it, and for the Messenger, and for the near of kin, and the orphans, and the needy, and the wayfarer, if you have believed in Allah and in what We have sent down upon Our Servant on the day of the Criterion, the day when the two forces met, and Allah is All-Powerful over everything.

Iz antum bel-audwati alduonya wa hum bel-audwati alquswa wa alrakbu asfala menkum wa laww tawa-adtum la-khtalaftum fee alme-adi wa laken la-yaqdiya Allahu amran kana maf-uolan le-yahleka man halaka an bayyinatin wa yahya man hayya an bayyinatin wa inna Allaha la-Samee-on Aleem (42).
When you were on the nearest side and they were on the farthest side, and the caravan was lower than you, if you had made an appointment, you would certainly have failed in the appointment, but Allah would accomplish a matter that was destined to be done, so that those who perished would perish upon a clear proof and those who lived would live upon a clear proof, and indeed, Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knower.

Iz yourekahumuo Allahu fee manameka qaleelan wa laww arakahum katheeran la-fasheltum wala-tanza'tum fee alamri wa lakenna Allaha sallama innahuo aleemun be-zati alsuduor (43).
When Allah showed them to you in your dream as few, and if He had shown them to you as many, you would have been demoralized and would have disputed in the matter, but Allah saved, indeed, He is All-Knower of what is in the breasts.

Wa iz yourekumuhum izi elatqaiytum fee a'yunekum qaleelan wa youqallelukum fe a'yunehim le-yaqdiya Allahu amran kana maf-uolan wa ela Allahi turja-uo al-aumuor (44).
And when He showed them to You, when you met as few in your eyes, and He made you as few in their eyes, so that Allah would accomplish a matter that was destined to be done, and to Allah all matters will be returned.

Ya-ayyuha allazina amanuo iza laqeetum fe'atan fa-thbutuo wa-zkuruo Allaha katheeran la-allakum tuflehuon (45).
O you who have believed! When you encounter a company, then Stand firm, and Remember Allah much so that you may succeed.

Wa atee-uo Allaha wa rasulahuo wa la tanaza-uo fa-tafshaluo wa tazhaba reehukum wa-sberuo inna Allaha ma-a alsabereen (46).
And Obey Allah and His Messenger and Do not dispute, then you will be
demoralized, and your strength would depart, and Be patient, indeed, Allah is with the patient.

Wa la takunuo ka-allazina kharajuo men diyarehim bataran wa riya-a alnasi wa yasudduona an sabeeli ellahi wa Allahu be-ma ya'maluona muheet (47).
And Do not be like those who came forth from their homes insolently, and showing off to the people, and prevent from the way of Allah, and Allah is All-Encompassing of what they do.

Wa iz zayyana lahumuo alshaiytanauo a'malahum wa qala la ghaleba lakumuo alyawma mena alnasi wa inni jarun lakum fa-lamma tara-ati alfe'atani nakasa al aqibaiyhi wa qala inni baree-on menkum inni ara ma la tarawna inni akhafuo Allaha wa Allahu shadeeduo aleqab (48).
And when Satan has adorned for them their deeds, and said no one can overcome you today from among the people, and indeed, I am your protector, but when the two companies saw each other, he turned back on his heels and said indeed, I am disavowing you, indeed, I see what you do not see, indeed, I fear Allah, indeed, Allah is Severe in punishment.

Iz yaquluo almunafequona wa allazina fee qulubehim maradun gharra haulae deenuhum wa man yatawakkal ala Allahi fa-inna Allaha Azeezun Hakeem (49).
And when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is disease said their religion has deluded these, but whoever puts his trust upon Allah, then indeed, Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.

Wa laww tara iz yatawaffa allazina kafaruo almalaekatuo yadrebuona wujuhahum wa adbarahum wa zuquo azaba alhareeq (50).
And if you could see when the Angels take in death those who disbelieved, striking their faces and their backs, and Taste the punishment of the burning fire.

Zaleka be-ma qaddamat aydekum wa anna Allaha laiysa be-zallamin lel-abeed (51).
That is because of what your hands have sent forth, and that Allah is not unjust to the servants.

Ka-da'bi ali fer'awna wa allazina men qablehim kafaruo be-ayati ellahi fa-akhazahumuo Allahu be-zunubehim inna Allaha qawiyyun shadeeduo aleqab (52).
Like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and those before them, they disbelieved in the signs of Allah, so Allah seized them for their sins, indeed, Allah is All-Strong, Severe in punishment.

Zaleka be-anna Allaha lam yaku mughayyiran ne'matan an'amaha ala qawmin hatta yughayyiryo ma be-anfusehim wa anna Allaha Semee-on Aleem (53).
That is because Allah would not change a favor which He had bestowed upon a people until they change what is in themselves, and that Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knower.

Ka-d'abi ali fer'awna wa allazina men qablehim kazzabuo be-ayati Rabbehim fa-ahlaknahum be-zunubehim wa aghraqna ala fer'awna wa kullun kanuo zalemeen (54).
Like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and those before them, they denied the signs of their Lord, so We destroyed them for their sins, and We drowned the people of Pharaoh, and all were wrongdoers.

Inna sharra aldawabbi enda Allahi allazina kafaruo fa-hum la you'menuon (55).
Indeed, the worst of the moving creatures in the sight of Allah are those who have disbelieved, so they will not believe.

Allazina ahadta menhum thumma yanquduona ahdahum fee kulli marratin wa hum la yattaquon (56).
Those with whom you have taken a covenant, but then they break their covenant every time, and they do not fear.

Fa-imma tathqafannahum fee alharbi fa-sharrid behim man khalfahum la-allahum yazzakkaruon (57).
So if You gain dominance over them in the war, then Disperse by them those behind them so that they may be reminded.

Wa imma takhafanna men qawmin khiyanatan fa-nbiz elaiyhim ala sawa-in inna Allaha la youhebbuo alkha-eneen (58).
And if You fear from a people betrayal, then Throw back to them equally, indeed, Allah does not love the betrayers.

Wa la yahsabanna allazina kafaruo sabaquo innahum la you'jezuon (59).
And Let not those who disbelieve think that they have outdone, indeed, they will not cause failure.

Wa a-edduo lahum ma estata'tum men quwwatin wa men rebati Alkhaiyli turhebuona behi aduwwa Allahi wa aduwwakum wa akhareena men duonehim la ta'lamunahumuo Allahu ya'lamuhum wa ma tunfequo men sahaiy-in fee sabeeli ellahi youwaffa elaiykum wa antum la tuzlamuon (60).
And Prepare against them whatever you are able of power and tethered horses by which you terrify the enemy of Allah, and your enemy and others besides them whom you do not know but Allah knows them, and whatever you spend in the way of Allah of anything will be paid in full to you, and you will not be wronged.

Wa in janahuo lel-salmi fa-jnah laha wa tawakkal ala Allahi innahuo huwa Alsamee-o Alaleem (61).
And if they incline to peace, then Incline to it, and Put Your trust upon Allah, indeed, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knower.

Wa in youreduo an yakhda-uoka fa-inna hasbaka Allahu huwa allazi ayyadaka be-nasrehi wa bel-mu'meneen (62).
But if they intend to deceive You, then indeed, Sufficient for You is Allah, He is the One who supported You with His victory and with the believers.

Wa allafa baiyna qulubehim laww anfaqta ma fee alardi jamee-an ma allafta baiyna qulubehim wa lakenna Allaha allafa baiynahum innahuo Azeezun Hakeem (63).
And He
has brought together their hearts, if You has spent whatever is on the earth, all together, You could not have brought their hearts together, but Allah has brought them together, indeed, He is Almighty, All-Wise.

Ya-ayyuha alnabiyyu hasbuka Allahu wa mani ettaba-aka mena almu'meneen (64).
O Prophet! Sufficient for You is Allah and whoever follows You of the believers.

Ya-ayyuha alnabiyyu harredi almu'meneena ala alqetali in yakun menkum eshruona saberuona yaghlebuo me'ataiyni wa in yakun menkum me'atun yaghlebuo alfan mena allazina kafaruo be-annahum qawmun la yafqahuon (65).
O Prophet! Incite the believers to fight, if there are among you twenty who are patient, they will overcome two hundred, and if there are among you one hundred, they will overcome a thousand of those who disbelieved because they are a people who do not understand.

Al-ana khaffafa Allahu ankum wa alema anna feekum da'fan fa-in yakun menkum me'atun saberatun yaghlebuo me'ataiyni wa in yakun menkum alfun yaghlebuo alfaiyni be-izni ellahi wa Allahu ma-a alsabereen (66).
Now Allah has lightened for you, and He knows that there is a weakness in you, so if there are among you one hundred who are patient, they will overcome two hundred, and if there are among you a thousand, they will overcome two thousand by the permission of Allah, and Allah is with the patient.

Ma kana le-nabiyyin an yakuna lahu asra hatta youthkhena fee alardi tureduona arada alduonya wa Allahu youreduo al-akherata wa Allahu Azeezun Hakeem (67).
It is not for a Prophet to have captives until He inflicts a massacre in the land, you desire the gain of the world, but Allah desires the Hereafter, and Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.

Laww-la ketabun mena Allahi sabaqa la-massakum fe-ma akhaztum azabun azeem (68).
If not for a decree from Allah that preceded, there would have touched you a great punishment for what you have taken.

Fa-kuluo memma ghanemtum halalan tayyiban wa-ttaquo Allaha inna Allaha Ghafurun Raheem (69).
So Eat of what you have obtained as spoils, lawful and good, and Fear Allah, indeed, Allah is All-forgiving, Most Merciful.

Ya-ayyuha alnabiyyu qul le-man fee aiydekum mena alasra in ya'lami ellahu fee qulubekum khaiyran you'tekum khaiyran memma aukheza menkum wa yaghfir lakum wa Allahu Ghafurun Raheem (70).
O Prophet! Say to whoever is in your hands of the captives, If Allah knows any good in your hearts, He will give you better than what was taken from you, and He will forgive you, and Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Wa in youreduo khiyanataka fa-qad khanuo Allaha men qabluo fa-amkana menhum wa Allahu Aleemun Hakeem (71).
But if they intend to betray You, then indeed, they have already betrayed Allah before, and He empowered over them, and Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise.

Inna allazina amanuo wa hajaruo wa jahaduo be-amwalehim wa anfusehim fee sabeeli ellahi wa allazina awaww wa nasaruo aulaeka ba'duhum awliyauo ba'din, wa allazina amanuo wa lam yuhajeruo ma lakum men walayatehim men shaiy-in hatta youhajeruo wa ini estansarukum fee aldeeni fa-alaiykumuo alnasruo ella ala qawmin baiynakum wa baiynahum methaqun wa Allahu bema ta'maluona Baseer (72).
Indeed, those who have believed and emigrated and striven with their wealth and their lives in the way of Allah and those who have sheltered and helped, those are allies of one another, but those who believed and did not emigrate, for you there is no guardianship of them in anything until they emigrate, and if they seek your help in the religion, then upon you is the help, except against a people between you and them there is a treaty, and Allah is All-Seeing of what you do.

Wa allazina kafaruo ba'duhum awliyauo ba'din ella taf'aluhuo takun fetnatun fee alardi wa fasadun kebeer (73).
And those who disbelieved are allies of one another, if you do not do so, there will be a trial on the earth and a great corruption.

Wa allazina amanuo wa hajaruo wa jahaduo fee sabeeli ellahi wa allazina awaww wa nasaruo aulaeka humuo almu'menuona haqqan lahum maghferatun wa rezqun kareem (74).
And those who have believed and emigrated and striven in the way of Allah, and those who have sheltered and helped, those are the believers in reality, for them there is forgiveness and a noble provision.

Wa allazina amanuo men ba'duo wa hajaruo wa jahaduo ma-akum fa-aulaeka menkum wa auluo al-arhami ba'duhum awla be-ba'din fee ketabi ellahi inna Allaha be-kulli shaiy-in Aleem (75).
And those who have believed afterwards and emigrated and striven with you, then those are of you, and the possessors of womb relations, some of them are closer to others in the book of Allah
and Allah is All-Knower of everything.

Simplified interpretation:

Surat Alanfal was revealed about the Battle of Badr which took place between the Muslims and the polytheists of Quraish on the seventeenth of the month of Ramadan in the second year of the Hijrah, and Allah has called the day of Badr the day of the Criterion (Alfurqan) because it was a decisive Battle between the belief and the disbelief, and between the truth and the falsehood, and as narrated by Sa'id bin Jubair: "I said to Ibn Abbas What about Surat Altawbah?, whereupon, he said as for Surat Altawbah it is the scandalous one, it continues to be revealed, and among them...., and among them...., until they thought that it would not leave anyone of them except mentioned therein, I again said What about Surat Alanfal?, he said it was revealed about the Battle of Badr, I again asked him about Surat Alhashr, he said it was revealed in connection with Banu Alnadir" (Sahih Muslim 3031).

Allah Almighty says in the first verse (1) "They ask You about the spoils, Say the spoils are for Allah and the Messenger, so Fear Allah and Reform that which is between you, and Obey Allah and His Messenger if you are believers", that is, the companions of Allah's Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) disagreed about the spoils He gained in the Battle of Badr from the infidels of Quraish who were killed that day, some of them wanted the spoils even though they did not participate in the fighting, and some of them wanted to take for themselves what they had taken from the enemy, where as narrated by Abdullah bin Abbas: "The Messenger of Allah said on the day of Badr, He who kills a man will get such-and such, and he who captivates a man will get such and such, so the young men came forward and the old men remained standing near the banners, and they did not move from there. When Allah bestowed victory on them, the old men said we were support for you, if you had been defeated, you would have returned to us, so Do not take the spoils alone, and we remain. The young men refused and said the Messenger of Allah has given it to us, then Allah has sent down "They ask You about the spoils, Say the spoils are for Allah and the Messenger.....Just as when Your Lord brought You out of Your home in truth, while indeed, a party among the believers were averse", so it was good for them, and this is also, so Obey Me, I know the consequence of this better than you" (Sunan Abu Dawood 2737,2738). So Allah assured them that just as going out to the Caravan of Quraish was good for them, likewise, His dividing of the spoils is better for them, so He ordered them to obey Him for he knows the consequence of dividing the spoils better than them.

And as narrated by Mus'ab bin Sa'd on the authority of His father Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas: "I brought a sword to the Prophet (PBUH) on the day of Badr, and I said O Messenger of AllahAllah has healed up my breast from the enemy today, so Give me this sword, He said this sword is neither mine nor yours, I then went away saying today this will be given to a man who did not do as I did (in the battle), meanwhile, I was there, a messenger came to me and said Respond, I thought something was revealed about me owing to my speech. I came and the Prophet said to me you asked me for this sword, but this was neither mine nor yours, now Allah has given it to Me, hence it is yours, then He recited They ask You about the spoils, Say the spoils are for Allah and the Messenger till the end of the verse" (Sunan Abu Dawood 2740). Thereupon, Allah has made dividing the spoils of the war up to Him and His Messenger to judge in it according to what is in the interest of the Muslims, so Allah commanded the Muslims to fear Him and fear His punishment if they disobeyed Him, to reform what is between them, so Be united in the command of Allah and His Messenger, and Do not oppress one another nor quarrel with one another, and Obey Allah and His Messenger in His dividing among you according to Allah's will for He has divided the spoils as Allah commanded Him with justice and fairness.

Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (2-4) "The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts fear, and when His verses are recited to them, it will increase them in faith, and upon their Lord they put their trust, those who establish the prayer and they spend out of what We have provided them, those are the believers in reality, for them there are degrees with their Lord and forgiveness and a noble provision", that is, Allah assures that the believers are only those whose hearts are filled with fear when Allah is mentioned, and when Allah's verses are recited to them, it will increase them in faith while they are rejoicing in what Allah has given them of the truth and certainty as Allah has stated in Aya (124) of Surat Altawbah, so they acted according to Allah's obligations, limits, and rulings, and thus their faith in Allah has increased. Thereupon, adhering to the Holy Quran and implementing to its obligations and prohibitions is a great way to increase a person's faith, while abandoning the Holy Quran and disrupting its rulings is a grave way of diminishing the faith of anyone. The believers also put their trust in Allah alone, and rely upon Him in all their affairs, they establish the prayer in its prescribed times, and they spend from what Allah has provided them of good provision whether on their families, in the way of Allah, or for alms, and as narrated by Abu Hurayrah that Allah's Messenger said: "Of the Dinar (currency) you spend in the way of Allah, and a Dinar you spend to set free a slave, and a Dinar you gave as a charity to a needy, and a Dinar you spend on your family, the one yielding the greatest reward is that which you spend on your family" (Sahih Muslim 995).

Then Allah assures that those who have these characteristics are the true believers, so He promised them degrees in Paradise on the day of resurrection, forgiveness for their sins, and a noble provision in Paradise, abiding therein forever, and Allah's Messenger said in narration of Abu Sa'id Alkhudri: "The people of Paradise will look at the dwellers of the lofty mansions in the same way as one looks at a brilliant star far away in the east or in the west on the horizon, all that is because of their superiority over one another, on that the people said O Allah's Messenger! Are these lofty mansions for the Prophets which nobody else can reach?, the Prophet replied no by the One in whose Hand is My soul! These are for the men who believed in Allah and also believed in the Messengers" (Sahih Albukhari 3256).

Allah Almighty says in the next four verses (5-8) "Just as when Your Lord brought You out of Your home in truth, while indeed, a party among the believers were averse, arguing with You concerning the truth after it had become clear, as if they were being driven to death while they were looking, and when Allah promised you one of the two groups, that it would be for you, and you wished that one other than of the armed would be for you, but Allah intended to establish the truth by His words and cut off the root of the disbelievers, that He establishes the truth and nullifies the falsehood even if the criminals dislike", that is, Allah has assigned the distribution of the spoils to Him and His Messenger when the believers disagreed bout them and quarreled over them and that was in their complete interest, likewise, the believers disliked going out to their enemies when Allah's Messenger went out of His home in Medina to the Caravan of Quraish on the seventeenth of the month of Ramadan in the second year of the Hijrah, where as narrated by Ka'b bin Malik that Allah's Messenger had gone out in search of the caravan of Quraish till Allah made them and their enemy meet without any appointment (Sahih Albukhari 4418), then they fought the polytheists of Quraish without appointment in the Battle of Badr, and the consequence of their hatred for fighting their enemies was good for them where Allah has granted them victory and spoils.

Since the trade journey of Quraish to Sham (The Levant) passed close to Medina in going and coming back, Allah's Messenger (PBUH) decided to raid the caravan and take it as a compensation for the properties of the Muhajireen that they had left in Mecca after their emigration to Medina, so Allah's Messenger consulted with His companions and the people of Medina (The Ansar) when He was informed that Abu Sufyan bin Harb, who was the leader of Quraish at that time and has not yet converted to Islam, was coming from the Sham heading to Mecca with the caravan that carry food and other things. When Abu Sufyan heard of the departure of Allah's Messenger and His companions to take the Caravan, he changed his route to the seashore and escaped from them, then he sent Damdam bin Amro to Mecca to inform them of the departure of Allah's Messenger and His companions, so Abu Jahl went out from Mecca with about a thousand fighters and encamped at Badr, where as narrated by Anas: "The Messenger of Allah held a consultation with His companions when the news of the advance of Abu Sufyan reached Him, Abu Bakr spoke, but He did not pay heed to him, then Umar spoke, but He did not pay heed to him, then Sa'd bin Mu'adh stood up and said Messenger of Allah! You want us, by the One in whose Hand is my soul! If You order us to plunge our horses into the sea, we would do so, if You ordered us to goad our horses to the most distant place like Bark Alghimad, we would do so. Anas said then Allah's Messenger called upon the people, so they set out and encamped at Badr, the water-carriers of Quraish arrived, and there was among them a black slave belonging to Banu Alhajjaj. The companions of the Messenger of Allah caught him and interrogated him about Abu Sufyan and his companions, he said I know nothing about Abu Sufyan, but Abu Jahl, Utba, Shaiyba, and Umayyah bin Khalaf are there, when he said this, they beat him, then he said All right I will tell you about Abu Sufyan, they would stop beating him, and then ask him again about Abu Sufyan, he would again say I know nothing about Abu Sufyan but Abu Jahl, Utba, Shaiyba, and Umayyah bin Khalaf are there, when he said this they beat him likewise. The Messenger of Allah was standing in prayer, when He saw this He finished His prayer and said by the One in whose Hand is My soul! You beat him when he is telling you the truth, and you let him go when he tells you a lie, Anas said then the Messenger of Allah  said this is the place where so-and-so would be killed, He placed His hand on the earth saying here and here, and none of them fell away from the place which the Messenger of Allah had indicated by placing His hand on the earth" (Sahih Muslim 1779).

Thereupon, when Allah's Messenger consulted with the people, Abu Bakr and Umar spoke, but He did not pay heed to both of them because He wanted to hear the opinion of the Ansar because the covenant with them on the night of Alaqaba was that they would support Allah's Messenger if anyone attacked Him in Medina, but as for His support if He went out to an enemy outside Medina was not stated in that covenant, so Allah's Messenger wanted to know their opinion about fighting the people of Mecca who encamped at Badr in order to fight them, and they agreed to fight with the Messenger of Allah, and the number of the Ansar was much greater than the number of the Muhajireen where as narrated by Albara' buin Azeb: "I and Ibn Umar were considered too young in the Battle of Badr, and the Muhajireen warriors were over sixty men, and the Ansar were over two hundred and forty" (Sahih Albukhari 3956). Hence, the Battle of Badr was the first real Battle of the Muslims against the infidels, and Allah's Messenger strengthened the resolve of the companions and gave them glad tidings of their victory over their enemy, and He has assigned for them the places where the leaders of the infidels will be killed before fighting them by placing His hand on these places, and none of those appointed by Allah's Messenger exceeded the place of the hand of Allah's Messenger. But there was a party of the believers who hated fighting and argued with Allah's Messenger about fighting after it had become clear to them that this is the command of Allah saying that they were going out for the caravan not for fighting.

Allah has promised the believers victory over the infidels of Quraish when He revealed in Aya (16) of Surat Aldukhan "The day We will seize the greatest seizure, indeed, We will take retribution", but the believers wished that one other than of the armed would be for them, they wished victory over Abu Sufyan and the caravan coming with him from Sham without fighting, not over Abu Jahl and the army coming with him from Mecca through fighting, but Allah intended to establish the truth by His words and cut off the root of the disbelievers, so Allah intended to bring them together with the group that engages in war and fighting in order to make them prevail and gain victory over them, to make His religion appears and raise the word of Islam over other religions, to destroy the leaders of the infidels through the hands of the Muslims, and to establish the truth as Allah made the truth clear by His signs and nullified the falsehood, even if the criminals dislike the truth, and adhere to falsehood, where the rule of Allah is to hurl the truth upon the falsehood, so the falsehood will disappear and the truth will remain as He has stated in Aya (18) of Surat Alanbiyaa.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (9,10) "When you called for help from Your Lord, and He answered you, indeed, I will reinforce you with a thousand from the Angels in succession, and Allah made it not but glad tidings and so that your hearts would be reassured thereby, and victory is not but from Allah, indeed, Allah is Almighty All-Wise", that is, the Messenger of Allah sought help from Allah on the day of Badr when He saw the small number of His companions compared to the infidels of Quraish, and He asked Allah to fulfill His promise of victory over them as shown above in Aya (7), therefore, Allah reinforced the Muslims with thousand Angels following one another to fight with them, and they were from among the best Angels, where as narrated by Rafa'ah bin Rafi' from his father who was one of the people of Badr that: "Gabriel came to the Prophet (PBUH) and said How do you look upon the warriors of Badr among you?, the Prophet said as the best of the Muslims or said a similar statement, on that, Gabriel said and so are the Angels who participated in Badr" (Sahih Albukhari 3992).

And as narrated by Umar bin Alkhattab: "When it was the day of Badr, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) cast a glance at the infidels, and they were one thousand while His own companions were three hundred and nineteen. The Prophet turned towards the Qibla (The direction of prayer), then He stretched His hands and began His supplication to His Lord O Allah! Accomplish for Me what You have promised Me, O Allah! Bring about what You have promised Me, O Allah! If this small band of the Muslims is destroyed, You will not be worshipped on this earth, He continued His supplication to His Lord, stretching His hands, facing the Qibla, until His mantle slipped down from His shoulders, so Abu Bakr came to Him, picked up His mantle and put it on His shoulders. Then He embraced Him from behind and said Prophet of Allah! This prayer of yours to Your Lord will suffice You, and He will fulfill for You what He has promised you, so Allah, the Glorious and Exalted has sent down "When you called for help from Your Lord, and He answered you, indeed, I will reinforce you with a thousand from the Angels in succession", so Allah helped Him with Angels. Abu Zumail (sub narrator) said that the Hadith was narrated to him by Ibn Abbas who said while on that day, a Muslim was chasing a disbeliever who was going ahead of him, he heard over him the swishing of the whip, and the voice of the rider saying Go ahead Haizuom! He glanced at the polytheists who had fallen down on his back, when he looked at him, there was a scar on his nose and his face was torn as if had been lashed with a whip, and he had turned green with its poison, an Ansari came to the Messenger of Allah and related this to Him, He said you have told the truth, this was the help from the third heaven. The Muslims that day killed seventy persons and captured seventy" (Sahih Muslim 1763). And as narrated by Ibn Mas'ud: "I witnessed Almiqdad bin Alaswad in a scene which would have been dearer to me than anything had I been the hero of that scene, he came to the Prophet (PBUH) while He was supplicating against the polytheists, then Almiqdad said we will not say as the people of Moses said "Go and Your Lord and Fight You both", but we shall fight on Your right and on Your left and in front of You and behind You, I saw the face of the Prophet getting bright with happiness for that saying delighted Him'' (Sahih Albukhari 3952).

The worst enemies of Islam from among the infidels of Quraish were killed in the Battle of Badr, where as narrated by Abdullah bin Mas'ud: "The Prophet (PBUH) faced the Ka'bah and supplicated against some people of Quraish, against Shaiba bin Rabi'a, Utba bin Rabi'a, Alwalid bin Utba, and Abu Jahl bin Hisham, I bear witness by Allah that I saw them all dead and putrefied by the sun as that was a very hot day" (Sahih Albukhari 3960), and as narrated by Abdul-Rahman bin Awf: "While I was fighting in the front row on the day of Badr, suddenly I looked around me, and saw on my right and left two young boys and did not feel safe by standing between them, then one of them asked me secretly so that his companion may not hear O uncle! Show me Abu Jahl, I said O nephew! What will you do to him?, He said I have promised Allah that if I see him, I will either kill him or be killed before I kill him, then the other said the same to me secretly so that his companion may not hear, I would not have been pleased to be in between two other men instead of them, then I pointed him out to both of them. Both of them attacked him like two hawks till they knocked him down, those two boys were the sons of Afra' (An Ansari woman)" (Sahih Albukhari 3988).

And as narrated by Anas bin Malik that Allah's Messenger (PBUH) let the dead bodies of the disbelievers who were killed in Badr for three days, He then came to them and sat by their side, and called them saying O Abu Jahl bin Hisham, O Umayya bin Khalaf, O Utba bin Rabiah, O Shaiba bin Rabi'ah Have you found what your lord has promised you to be true?, as for Me, I have found what My lord had promise Me to be true. Umar listened to the words of Allah's Messenger and said O Allah's Messenger! How do they listen and respond to You?, they are dead and their bodies have putrefied. He said By Him in whose Hand is my soul! You are not better at hearing what I am saying than they, but they cannot reply, then He commanded that they should be buried in the well of Badr" (Sahih Muslim 2874). Allah did not make the Angels descend one upon the other except as glad tidings to the believers of Allah's victory over their enemy and that their hearts may be reassured by their arrival so they would be certain of Allah's support, and the victory is only from Allah not through their strength and might, and Allah is the Almighty who is Severe in His revenge on those who disobeyed Him, the All-Wise who manages His creation with wisdom in His laws and destiny.

Allah Almighty says in the next four verses (11-14) "When He overwhelmed you with drowsiness, a security from Him, and sent down upon you from the sky, water, so that He may purify you with it, and remove from you the evil of Satan, and so that He may strengthen your hearts, and stabilize the feet thereby, when your Lord inspired to the Angels I am with you, so Strengthen those who have believed, I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieved, so Strike above the necks and Strike from them every fingertip, that is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger, and whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger, then indeed, Allah is Severe in punishment, that is yours, So Taste it, and that for the disbelievers is the punishment of the fire", that is, Allah reminded the believers of His favor that He bestowed upon them on the day of Badr, when He overwhelmed them with drowsiness as a protection from the fear that they had felt due to the large number of their enemy and their small number, and as narrated by Ali bin Abi Talib: "There were no horsemen among us on the day of Badr other than Almiqdad, and I could not see any of us who was not asleep except the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) who remained praying beneath a tree and weeping until morning" (Musnad Ahmed 1023). And Allah has sent down a great rain from the sky by which Allah has purified the believers, so they washed and purified themselves, removed from them the whispers of Satan which he has cast in their hearts, strengthened their hearts with patience and courage to fight their enemy, and strengthened the ground of the valley for the believers and helped them to walk upon it for it was a soft sand in which their feet were stuck. And Ibn Abbas said when the polytheists of Quraish went out to support the caravan and fight for it, they encamped on the water of Badr, the believers were not able to reach it, so they became thirsty, then Allah sent down water from the sky until the valley flowed, so the believers drank, filled the vessels, watered the animals, and bathed themselves, so Allah made the water a purification for them and firmness of the feet because there was sand between them and the people, so Allah has sent rain on it, and it stroke it until it became strong and the feet remained firm on it.

And Allah has inspired to the Angels whom He sent down to support His Messenger and the believers in the battlefield that He is with them with victory and help, so Strengthen the believers against their enemy with your presence and fighting with them, and Allah will cast terror and humiliation into the hearts of the infidels of Quraish, and Allah commanded the Angels to strike above the necks and cut them off, and to strike from them every fingertip of their hands and their feet, and cut them off, and the believers have already seen the effect of the presence of the Angels among them and heard their voices as shown above in Aya (9). Allah has supported the believers with Angels, and punished the believers through their hands and the hands of the believers because they opposed Allah and His Messenger, warred them, and disobeyed them, and whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger, indeed, Allah is Severe in punishment and revenge on those who oppose Him and His Messenger, then Allah addresses the disbelievers saying that is your punishment in the worldly life, so Taste it, and that for the disbelievers is the punishment of the Hellfire on the day of resurrection.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (15,16) "O you who have believed! When you meet those who have disbelieved advancing, Do not turn to them the backs, and whoever turns his back to them on that day unless maneuvering for fighting or joining a company has certainly returned with wrath from Allah, and his abode is Hellfire, and wretched is the fate", that is, Allah commanded the believers not to turn their backs to the disbelievers when they meet them advancing one towards the other in the battlefield, so Do not flee and leave your companions lest you will be defeated, but rather Stand firm for Allah is with you and will support you against them. But Allah has made an exception for whoever turns back from the battlefield maneuvering for fighting by plotting against the disbelievers in order to defeat them, or whoever turns back in order to join a company of the believers, so that he may strengthen himself through them, so they help him and he help them, and Allah has threatened whoever flees from the battlefield that he will return with wrath from Allah, and whoever upon whom Allah's anger and wrath descend, he has perished and fallen in destruction as Allah has stated in Aya (81) of Surat Ta Ha, so his abode is the Hellfire on the day of resurrection which is a wretched and a miserable fate. Fleeing from the battlefield when meeting the enemy of Allah and His Messenger is considered one of the seven grave sins that lead its committer to the Hellfire on the day of resurrection, where as narrated by Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (PBUH) said: "Avoid the seven great destructive sins, they said O Allah's Messenger! What are they?, He said to join others in worship along with Allah, to practice sorcery, to kill the soul which Allah has forbidden except by right, to eat up Riba (usury), to eat up the wealth of the orphan, to flee back from battlefield at the time of fighting, and to accuse chaste women, believing women, unaware women" (Sahih Albukhari 2766).

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (17,18) "And you did not kill them, but Allah has killed them, and You did not throw when you has thrown, but Allah has thrown, and that He may test the believers with a good test from Him, indeed, Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knower, that is yours, and that Allah will weaken the plot of the disbelievers'', that is, Allah assures the believers that He is the One who has helped them, so they did not kill their enemy in the battle of Badr through their strength and might, but Allah has killed them by His support despite the large number of their enemy and their small number, so victory is not but from Allah, as shown above in Aya (10), then Allah addresses His Messenger (PBUH) saying that He did not throw the disbelievers when He has taken pebbles and thrown them in the faces of the disbelievers, but Allah has thrown them and helped Him to overcome them, so Allah has helped the believers and His Messenger with victory from Him so that He may test the believers with a good test in order to acknowledge Allah's blessings through victory over their enemies despite their large number, and thus be grateful for His grace, and Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knower where nothing in the heavens nor on the earth is hidden from Him, so He knows best who deserves help and who deserves defeat, so Allah assures that His help was for the believers and that He will weaken the plot of the disbelievers, so He will cast terror in their hearts as shown above in Aya (12), and will strengthen the Muslims and give them victory over the disbelievers.

Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (19-21) "If you seek the conquest, the conquest has come to you, and if you desist, it is better for you, but if you return, We will return, and your company will not avail you in anything, even if it is numerous, and indeed, Allah is with believers, O you who have believed! Obey Allah and His Messenger and Do not turn away from Him while you are hearing, and Do not be like those who say we have heard while they do not hear", that is, Allah addresses the polytheists of Quraish who went out to fight Allah's Messenger and the believers seeking Allah's victory over them on the day of Badr for they thought that they are right and that the believers were wrong, but Allah assures them that His victory had already come for the believers not for them, so He had distinguished the believers from the disbelievers, the truth from falsehood, and belief from disbelief. Then Allah says to the polytheists if you desist from disbelief in Him and His Messenger, then it is better for you in the worldly life and the Hereafter, but if you return to disbelief and misguidance you were in before the Battle of Badr, We will return to punish you through the hands of the believers, and your forces will be of no use for you, and will not avail you against Allah's punishment in anything even if they were numerous, just as they were of no use on the day of Badr despite your large number and the small number of the believers because Allah is with believers, so He will help His Messenger and the believers, and no one can defeat them. Thereupon, Allah commanded the believers to obey Him and His Messenger in what He has commanded them to do and what He has forbidden them from, and not to turn away from Him while they are hearing His commands and prohibitions, so Do not disobey His commands while you hear what He says, and Do not be like the polytheists who hear with their ears and say we have heard while they are like the deaf who do not hear anything; For they do not reflect on what they hear nor do they understand it, so they turned away from the truth after it had come to them from Allah.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (22,23) "Indeed, the worst of the moving creatures in the sight of Allah are the deaf and the dumb who do not understand, Had Allah known any good in them, He would have made them hear, and if He had made them hear, they would have gone back while they are turning away", that is, Allah assures that the worst of the moving creatures who move on the earth in the sight of Allah are the deaf and the dumb who do not understand, so the polytheists are the worst of Allah's creation because they are like the deaf and the dumb, although they hear and speak, but they neither see nor utter the truth, and as narrated from Ibn Abbas that he said that this verse was revealed about some persons from the tribe of Banu Abd Aldar (Sahih Albukhari 4646). And if Allah knows that there was any good in them, He would have made them hear His arguments and proofs that He have revealed to His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH), but there is no good in them, and if Allah had made them hear, they would have gone back while they are turning away in arrogance as if they had not heard anything.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (24,25) "O you who have believed! Respond to Allah and to the Messenger when He calls you to what gives you life, and Know that Allah intervenes between a man and his heart, and that to Him you will be gathered, and Fear a trial which will not strike those who have wronged among you exclusively, and Know that Allah is Severe in punishment'', that is, Allah commanded the believers to respond to Allah and to His Messenger when He calls them to the truth and the Holy Quran in which there is what gives their hearts life and steadfastness in the truth, and as narrated by Abu Sa'id bin Almu'ala: "While I was praying, Allah's Messenger passed me and called me, but I did not go to Him until I had finished my prayer, then I went to Him, and He said What prevented you from coming to Me?, Did not Allah say "O you who have believed! Respond to Allah and to the Messenger when He calls you", then He said I will inform you of the greatest Surah in the Quran before I leave. When Allah's Messenger got ready to leave, I reminded Him, He said "Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds", the seven oft-repeated" (Sahih Albukhari 4647). Then Allah says to the believers and Know that Allah intervenes between a man and his heart, so he can not believe or disbelieve except by the permission of Allah as He guides whom He wills and lets go astray whom He wills, so He intervenes between a disbeliever and faith, and between a believer and disbelief, where as narrated by Abdullah bin Amr bin Alas that he heard Allah's Messenger as saying: "Indeed, all the hearts of the children of Adam between two fingers of the fingers of the Most Gracious as one heart, He turns it wherever He wills, then Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said O Allah! The Turner of the hearts, Turn Our hearts to Your obedience" (Sahih Muslim 2655).

And Know that to Allah you will be gathered from the graves for reckoning on the day of resurrection, so Obey Allah and His Messenger lest Allah's punishment befalls you, and Fear a trial that will not afflict those who have wronged among you exclusively, but rather, it will afflict the obedient and the disobedient if the believers do not enjoin the right and forbade from the wrong, where as narrated by Abu Bakr Alsiddiq: "Indeed, I heard Allah's Messenger saying when the people see the wrongdoer and they do not take him by the hand, then soon, Allah shall envelope them in a punishment from Him" (Jami' Altirmidhi 2168). And Allah's Messenger said in narration of Alnu'man bin Basheer: "The example of the person abiding by Allah's order and restrictions in comparison to those who violate them is like the example of those who drew lots for their seats in a boat. Some of them got seats in the upper part and the others in the lower. When those in the lower part needed water, they had to go up to bring water, so they said Let us make a hole in our share of the ship saving those who are above us from troubling them, so if the people in the upper part left them do what they had intended, all of them would be perished, but if they prevented them and take on their hands, they would be saved, all would be saved" (Sahih Albukhari 2493). And Allah is Severe in punishment and revenge on those who disobey Him and His Messenger.

Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (26-28) "And Remember when you were few, and deemed weak in the land, fearing that the people may snatch you away, but He sheltered you and supported you with His victory, and provided you with the good things, so that you may give thanks, O you who have believed! Do not betray Allah and the Messenger and betray your trusts while you know, and Know that your wealth and you children are but a trial and that Allah has with Him a great reward", that is, Allah reminds the believers with His Favor upon them when they were few and deemed weak in Mecca, where the infidels of Quraish used to tempt them from their religion and attack them with misfortunes, and they were afraid that the infidels of Quraish may snatch them away and kill them, and that was their condition till Allah ordered them to emigrate to Medina, so Allah gave them a shelter to which they could seek refuge from them, and subjugated the people of Medina (The Ansar) to support His religion and His Messenger with their wealth and their homes, and Allah supported the believers with His victory on the day of Badr over the infidels of Quraish who used to oppress them, and provided them with the good things of the spoils which they gained from the battle of Badr, so that they may give thanks to Allah for what He has bestowed upon them and provided for them. Then Allah commanded the believers not to betray Allah and His Messenger by disobeying them, abandoning Allah's obligations, and abandoning the Sunnah, so not to be like the hypocrites who show faith and sincerity outwardly while concealing disbelief and deceit for the Muslims inwardly, and Do not take the polytheists as allies informing them the secrets of the Muslims, likewise Allah commanded the believers not betray their trusts saying Do not betray your trusts which Allah has entrusted to you which are the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of His Messenger as they are the means of salvation in the worldly life and the Hereafter, so Do not diminish Allah's right over you and the right of His Messenger over you intentionally while you know. And Allah warns the believers against the trial of wealth and children because they are not free from the temptation and the preoccupation of the heart with them, and they may lead you to earn what is unlawful and to prevent the right of Allah over you, and if you kept away from the trial of wealth and children, and obey Allah, you will find with Him a great reward which is Paradise.

Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (29-31) "O you who have believed! If you fear Allah, He will grant you a Criterion, and will expiate from you your evil deeds, and will forgive you, and Allah is the Possessor of the great bounty, and when those who disbelieved plotted against You to restrain You or kill You or expel You, but they plot and Allah plots, and Allah is the Best of the plotters, and when Our verses are recited to them, they say indeed, we have heard, if we wish, we could surely say like this, this is nothing but the legends of the former people", that is, Allah addresses the believers saying if you fear Allah and His punishment, therefore, you followed His commands, and avoided His prohibitions, He will grant you a Criterion between the truth and the falsehood by which you will be guided to the right path, He will expiate from you your evil deeds, and He will forgive your sins, and Allah is the Possessor of the great bounty upon all mankind as He guides whom He wills to His obedience and lets go astray whom He wills. Allah reminds His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) of His favor upon Him when the disbelievers of Mecca gathered at Dar Alnadwa to plot against Him, and they intended to imprison Him, kill Him, or expel Him from Mecca, but they plotted and Allah plotted and Allah is the Best of the plotters, where Allah saved His Messenger and commanded Him to emigrate from Mecca to Medina, and supported Him and the Muhajireen and gave them a shelter in Medina as shown above in Aya (26), and then He punished the disbelievers with a severe punishment by the hands of the believers on the day of the battle of Badr. Then Allah tells about the disbelievers of Mecca saying that when Allah's verses were recited to them, they said out of their disbelief and stubbornness we have heard these verses, if we willed, we could say like this verses, and they claimed that the Holy Quran is nothing but the legends of the former people that pass from one generation to another and it has no reality, and they claimed that Allah's Messenger has written it and they are recited to Him morning and evening as mentioned in Aya (5) of Surat Alfurqan.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (32,33) "And when they said O Allah! If this should be the truth from You, then rain down upon us stones from the sky or Bring us a painful punishment, but Allah would not punish them while You are among them, and Allah would not punish them while they seek forgiveness", that is, the polytheists of Quraish said out of their ignorance, stubbornness, and denial O Allah! If this should be the truth from You, then rain down upon us stones from the sky or Bring us a painful punishment, they hastened the punishment if that which Allah's Messenger brought them was the truth from Allah instead of asking for guidance if it was the truth from Allah, and as narrated by Anas bin Malik: "Abu Jahl said O Allah! If this should be the truth from You, then rain down upon us stones from the sky or Bring us a painful punishment, so Allah revealed but Allah would not punish them while You are among them, and Allah would not punish them while they seek forgiveness, and What is with them that Allah would not punish them while they prevent from the Sacred Mosque" (Sahih Albukhari 4648). Thereupon, Allah responded to their saying and assured His Messenger (PBUH) that He would not punish them while Allah's Messenger is among them, and He would not punish them while among them there are Muslims who ask for forgiveness of Allah, Had not been for the weak believers who sought forgiveness among them after the emigration of Allah's Messenger and the believers to Medina, a painful punishment would have fallen upon them, but it was repelled from them because of the believers as Allah said to His Messenger on the day of Alhudaiybeyah "And if not for believing men and believing women, you did not know them that you may trample them, so a harm would befall you from them without knowledge" as mentioned in Aya (25) of Surat Alfath, so the rule of Allah is that He would not punish a people while their Prophet and those who have believed are present among them, but He would command the Prophet to set out with the believers from their town, then He would destroy the infidels just as He did to the people of Lot and the people of Pharaoh. Thereupon, the Muslims had two protections from Allah's punishment, the first was lost with the death of Allah's Messenger while the second will remain as long as they seek forgiveness from Allah

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (34,35) "And What is with them that Allah would not punish them while they prevent from the Sacred Mosque and they were not its guardians?, its guardians are not but the righteous, but most of them do not know, and their prayer at the House was not except whistling and clapping, so Taste the punishment for what you used to disbelieve", that is, What is with the infidels of Quraish that Allah would not punish them while they deserve to be punished for they prevent the Muslims from praying in Almasjid Alharam (The Sacred Mosque) and circumambulating around it, and they were not the guardians of the Sacred mosque, its guardians are not but the righteous but most of them do not know, where as Allah has stated in Ayat (17,18) of Surat Altawbah "It is not for the polytheists to maintain the mosques of Allah, witnessing against themselves with disbelief, those, their deeds were nullified, and in the fire, they will abide forever, the mosques of Allah are only to be maintained by he who believes in Allah, and the last Day, and establishes the prayer, and gives the Zakah and does not fear except Allah, then perhaps that those will be of the guided". Then Allah assures that their prayer in the Sacred House (Almasjid Alharam) was not except whistling and clapping as they used to circumambulate around the Ka'bah naked, whistling, and clapping, so when they went out to fight the believers on the day of the Battle of Badr and were distinguished from the believers who were in Mecca, Allah punished them with a severe punishment through killing of seventy men and captivity of seventy men from among them as shown above as a recompense of their disbelief, stubbornness, and tyranny, and among those who were killed was Abu Jahl, who had hastened Allah's Punishment before, so Allah says to them Taste the punishment for what you used to disbelieve.

Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (36-38) "Indeed, those who disbelieve spend their wealth to prevent from the way of Allah, so they will spend it, then it will be for them a regret, then they will be defeated, and those who have disbelieved, to Hellfire they will be gathered, so that Allah may distinguish the wicked from the good, and place the wicked some of them upon others, and heap them all together, and put them into Hellfire, those are the losers, Say to those who have disbelieved if they desist, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for them, but if they return, then indeed, the rule of the former people has already passed", that is, Allah tells about the polytheists of Quraish who spent their wealth to fight Allah's Messenger and to prevent the people from the way of Allah, so they will spend it and it will not benefit them, but rather it will be regret for them; Because they will not achieve what they hope and aspire to of extinguishing the light of Allah and elevating the word of disbelief over the word of Allah, but Allah refuses except to perfect His light even though the disbelievers dislike as He has stated in Aya (32) of  Surat Altawbah, so Allah will punish and humiliate them in the worldly life for the believers will defeat them, and another punishment awaits them in the Hereafter as they will be gathered in Hellfire on the day of resurrection, and Allah has put them in a test in order to distinguish the wicked from the good; Because the wealth is a trial for them as shown above in Aya (28). As for the believers, they spend their wealth in the way of Allah, and to support the religion of Allah, but as for the disbelievers, they spend their wealth to prevent from the way of Allah and to war Allah, His Messenger, and the believers, thereupon, they will be distinguished from the believers, and Allah will heap them all together on the day of resurrection, and will cast them into the fire of Hellfire, and those are the losers whose deal was lost because they had bought Allah's punishment, disgrace and humiliation with their wealth.

Then Allah opened the doors of His Mercy and forgiveness to the disbelievers if they repented and believed in Him and His Messenger, so He commanded His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) to say to them that if they desist from what they were in of disbelief, opposition, and stubbornness, and they entered into Islam and obedience, Allah will forgive all their sins that had previously occurred before they embraced Islam, and as narrated by Abdullah bin Mas'ud: "We once said O Messenger of Allah! Would we be held accountable for our deeds committed in Aljahiliyah (before embracing Islam), He said he who amongst you performed good deeds in Islam, he would not be held accountable for them, but he who committed evil, he would be held accountable for his misdeeds that he committed in Aljahiliyah and in Islam" (Sahih Muslim 120 a), and as narrated by Almiqdad bin Alaswad: "I said O Messenger of Allah! Do you see if I encountered a person amongst the infidels, and he attacked me and struck me and cut off my hand with the sword, then he took a shelter of a tree and said I become a Muslim for the sake of Allah, O Messenger of Allah! Can I kill him after he had uttered this?, the Messenger of Allah said Do not kill him, I said O Messenger of Allah! He cut off my hand and uttered this after amputating it, Should I then kill him?, the Messenger of Allah said Do not kill him, for if you kill him, then indeed, he would be in a position where you had been before killing him, and indeed, you would be in a position where he had been before uttering the word he had uttered" (Sahih Muslim 95 a). But Allah threatens the polytheists if they did not repent, then returned to war Allah and His Messenger, saying that the rule of the former people has already passed, so Allah's vengeance and punishment would befall them like the punishment that befell the previous nations.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (39,40) "And Fight them until there is no trial, and the religion, all of it, becomes for Allah, and if they desist, then indeed, Allah is All-Seeing of what they do, But if they turn away, then Know that Allah is your Protector, Excellent is the Protector and Excellent is the Helper", that is, Allah commanded the believers to fight the polytheists until there is no trail, and no Muslim will be tempted from his religion, and the religion and monotheism will be for Allah alone, with no partner, so there will be no disbelief along with the religion of Islam, but if the polytheist desisted from disbelief and submitted to Allah, then Allah is All-Seeing of what they do of evil or good deeds, and He knows what they declare and what they conceal in their hearts, so they protect themselves from killing as soon as they embraced Islam and testified that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and as narrated by Usama bin Zaid: "The Messenger of Allah sent us to Huraqat, a tribe of Juhaina, we attacked that tribe early in the morning and defeated them, and I and a man from the Ansar caught hold of a person, when we overcame him, he said there is no god but Allah, at that moment the Ansari spared him, but I attacked him with my spear and killed him, so when we came back, the news has reached the Prophet (PBUH), He said to me O Usama! Did you kill him after he had said there is no god but Allah?, I said Messenger of Allah! He did it only as a shelter, the Prophet said Did you kill him after he had said there is no god but Allah?, He kept repeating it to me until I wished I had not converted to Islam before that day" (Sahih Muslim 96 b). But if the polytheists turned away from believing in Allah and His Messenger, and refused except disbelief and fighting the believers, then Allah commanded the believers to fight them, and assured them that He is their Protector who will support them and will grant them victory over their enemies, so Excellent is the Protector and Excellent is the Helper.

And as narrated by Ibn Umar: "A man came to him (while two groups of Muslims were fighting) and said O Abu Abudl-Rahman! Do not you hear what Allah has mentioned in His book "And if two groups of the believers fight against each other'' till the end of the Aya, so What prevents you from fighting as Allah has mentioned in His book?, Ibn Umar said O son of my brother! I would rather be blamed for not fighting because of this verse than to be blamed because of another verse where Allah says "And whoever kills a believer intentionally", then that man said Allah says "And Fight them until there is no trial", Ibn Umar said we did this during the lifetime of Allah's Messenger (PBUH) when the number of the Muslims was small, and a man was put to trial because of his religion, the pagans would either kill or chain him, but when the Muslims increased, there was no trial, when that man saw that Ibn Umar did not agree to his proposal, he said What is your opinion regarding Ali and Uthman?, Ibn Umar said What is my opinion regarding Ali and Uthman?, as for Uthman, Allah forgave him, and you disliked that He forgave him, and Ali is the cousin of Allah's Messenger and His daughter's husband, then he pointed out with his hand and said and that is His daughter's house which you can see" (Sahih Albukhari 4650).

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (41) "And Know that anything you obtain as spoils, then indeed, for Allah is one fifth of it, and for the Messenger, and for the near of kin, and the orphans, and the needy, and the wayfarer, if you have believed in Allah and in what We have sent down upon Our Servant on the day of the Criterion, the day when the two forces met, and Allah is All-Powerful over everything", that is, Allah has divided the spoils that the Muslims obtained in their battles into five-fifths, four-fifths of which being divided between the fighters who fought and gained it, and one fifth being divided into four, a quarter of the fifth is for Allah, His Messenger, and the relatives of Allah's Messenger (PBUH), where whatever belongs to Allah and His Messenger is to the relatives of Allah's Messenger of Banu Hashim and Banu Abdul-Muttalib; Because the charity was forbidden for them where Allah's Messenger said to Alharith bin Rabi'ah and Alabbas bin Abdul-Muttalib "The charity is not appropriate for the family of Muhammad, it is the dirties of the people" (Sahih Muslim 1072), so Allah has made a share for them from the spoils and from the Fai' as mentioned in Aya (7) of Surat Alhashr, and Allah's Messenger did not take anything from the fifth, where as narrated by Amr bin Abasah: "The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) led us in the prayer facing a camel which had been taken in booty, and when He had given the salaam, He took a hair from the camel's side and said I have no right as much as this of your booty, but only to the fifth, and the fifth is returned to you" (Sunan Abu Dawood 2755), so Allah's Messenger had given His share to His relatives, and He had given His cousin Ali Bin Ali Talib from the fifth, where as narrated by Ali that Allah's Messenger had given him a she-camel from the Khumus (The fifth) on the day of the Battle of Badr (Sahih Albukhari 3091), and as narrated by Jubair bin Mut'im: "On the day of Khaibar, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) divided the portion of the near of kin among Banu Hashim and Banu Abdul-Muttalib, and omitted Banu Nawfal and Banu Abd Shams, so I and Uthman bin Affan went to the Prophet and said O Messenger of Allah! These are Banu Hashim whose superiority we do not deny because of the position in which Allah has placed You in relation to them, but Tell us about Banu Abdul-Muttalib to whom You have given something while omitting us though our relationship is the same as theirs. The Messenger of Allah said there is no distinction between us and Banu Abdul-Muttalib in Aljahiliah (Pre-Islamic era), and in Islam, We and they are one, and He intertwined His fingers" (Sunan Abu Dawood 2980).

The second quarter of the fifth is for the orphans, while the third quarter is for the needy and Allah's Messenger said in narration of Abu Hurayrah: "The needy is not the one who asks a morsel or two from the others, but the needy is the one who has nothing and is shamed to beg from people" (Sahih Albukhari 1476), and the fourth quarter is for the wayfarer who is in need of maintenance and what he needs on his travel. Allah and His Messenger have made paying the fifth is a part of faith, where as narrated by Abu Jamra: "I used to sit with Ibn Abbas, and he made me sit on his sitting place, he said to me Stay with me so that I will give you a share of my property, so I stayed with him for two months, once he told me that when the delegation of Abd Alqais came to the Prophet (PBUH), the Prophet asked them Who are the people, or Who are the delegation?, they said we are from the tribe of Rabi'ah, then the Prophet said to them welcome O people or O delegation! Neither will you have disgrace nor will you regret. They said O Messenger of Allah! We cannot come to You except in the sacred month, and there is the infidel tribe of Mudar intervening between You and us, so Give us a decisive matter so that we may inform our people whom we have left behind, and with which we will enter Paradise, then they asked Him about the drinks. The Prophet ordered them to do four things and forbade them from four things, He ordered them to believe in Allah alone, and asked them Do you know what is meant by believing in Allah alone?, they replied Allah and His Messenger know best, thereupon, the Prophet said to testify that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, to perform the prayer, to give the Zakah (Obligatory charity), to observe fast during Ramadan, and to Pay the Khumus (The fifth) of your spoils, then He forbade them from four things namely alhantam, aldubba', alnnaqir, and almuzaffat, and He may said almuqaiyar (These were the names of pots in which alcoholic drinks were prepared), the Prophet further said Memorize them and convey them to the people whom you have left behind" (Sahih Albukhari 53).

Thereupon, Allah urges the believers to comply with what He has prescribed for them in the fifth of the spoils saying if you have believed in Allah and in what He has sent down upon His Servant Muhammad (PBUH) on the day of the Criterion (Alfurqan) which is the day of the Battle of Badr in which Allah distinguished between the truth and the falsehood at Badr, prevailed the word of faith over the word of disbelief, and supported His Messenger and the believers over the polytheists of Quraish, the day when the two forces met, the party of belief and the party of disbelief, and Allah is All-powerful to do whatever He wills, and neither impediment nor inability can prevent Him from doing whatever He wills.

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (42) "When you were on the nearest side and they were on the farthest side, and the caravan was lower than you, if you had made an appointment, you would certainly have failed in the appointment, but Allah would accomplish a matter that was destined to be done, so that those who perished would perish upon a clear proof and those who lived would live upon a clear proof, and indeed, Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knower", that is, Allah tells about the day of Badr, when the Muslims encamped at the nearest side of the valley which is close to Medina, and the polytheists of Quraish encamped at the farthest side of the valley which is close to Mecca, while the caravan of Abu Sufyan and what he have of the trade was lower the Muslims which was close to the shore of the sea, then Allah assures that if the Muslims and the polytheists of Quraish had made an appointment for their meeting, they would certainly failed in the appointment, but Allah would accomplish a matter that was destined to be done, where Allah's Messenger had gone out in search of the caravan of Quraish but Allah made them and their enemy meet without any appointment in order to support the Muslims over the polytheists, to honor Islam and its people, and to humiliate the polytheism and its people, and so that Allah raises the word of truth over falsehood, and the proofs become clear, so that whoever perished would perish upon a clear proof for the argument will be established against him because he persists on disbelief despite his knowledge that it is false, and whoever believed would believe upon a clear proof and insight, and Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knower where nothing in the heavens nor on the earth is hidden from Him, so He hears your supplication and knows best who deserves help and who deserves defeat.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (43,44) "When Allah showed them to you in your dream as few, and if He had shown them to you as many, you would have been demoralized and would have disputed in the matter, but Allah saved, indeed, He is All-Knower of what is in the breasts, and when He showed them to You, when you met as few in your eyes, and He made you as few in their eyes, so that Allah would accomplish a matter that was destined to be done, and to Allah all matters will be returned", that is, Allah showed the polytheists of Quraish to His Messenger in His dream as few in number in order to strengthen the believers with it, and if Allah had shown them to Allah's Messenger as many in number, the believers would have been demoralized and would have disagreed among themselves, so they would have feared fighting them, but Allah saved them from failure until He gave them victory over their enemy, and Allah is All-Knower of what is in the breasts, where nothing is hidden from Him even the secrets that the breasts conceal, so He knows what you will do if you see them numerous in number. And as a part of Allah's kindness towards the believers on the day of the Battle of Badr is that He showed the polytheists to the believers when they met them in the battlefield as few in number in their eyes so that the believers dare to fight them, and Allah made the believers as few in number in the eyes of the polytheists so that the polytheists belittle them and stop preparing to fight them, and thus, it would be easier for the believers to fight them, so that Allah would accomplish a matter that was destined to be done which is fighting them in order to support the Muslims and take revenge on those who opposed Allah and His Messenger from among the polytheists of Quraish when Allah reinforced the believers with a thousand from the Angels as shown above in Aya (9), and that was Allah's judgment in the worldly life, but all affairs will be returned to Allah on the day of resurrection, and He will judge between them with truth and justice.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (45,46) "O you who have believed! When you encounter a company, then Stand firm, and Remember Allah much so that you may succeed, and Obey Allah and His Messenger and Do not dispute, then you will be demoralized, and your strength would depart, and Be patient, indeed, Allah is with the patient", that is, Allah has threatened whoever flees from the battlefield that he will return with wrath from Allah and that Hellfire will be his abode in the Hereafter as shown above in Aya (16), so Allah has commanded the believers to stand firm when fighting a company from their enemies, so they do not flee or become cowardly, and to remember Allah much in that situation, and not forget Him, but rather, trust in Him, seek His help, and ask Him for victory over their enemies, so that they may succeed and defeat their enemies, and as narrated by Salim Abu Alnadr, the freed slave of Umar bin Ubaidullah who was Umar's clerk: "Abdullah bin Abi Awfa wrote him (Umar) a letter, so I read it: Indeed, Allah's Messenger (PBUH), on one of His days when He encountered (The enemy) waited until the sun had declined, then He stood up among the people and preached, He said O people! Do not wish to meet the enemy, and Ask Allah to save you, but if you should meet them, then Be patient, and Know that Paradise is under the shades of swords, then He said O Allah! The Revealer of the Book, the Mover of the clouds, and the Defeater of the Alahzab (Infidels), Defeat them and Grant Us victory over them" (Sahih Albukhari 2965). Then Allah has commanded the believers to obey Allah and His Messenger in what He has commanded them, and what He has forbidden them, not to quarrel among themselves, so they would have been demoralized and would have disagreed among themselves, and their strength and unity would be lost, and then weakness and defect would spread among them, and to be patient when confronting their enemy, indeed, Allah is with the patient, so He will support them and will grant them victory over their enemy.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (47,48) "And Do not be like those who came forth from their homes insolently, and showing off to the people, and prevent from the way of Allah, and Allah is All-Encompassing of what they do, and when Satan has adorned for them their deeds, and said no one can overcome you today from among the people, and indeed, I am your protector, but when the two companies saw each other, he turned back on his heels and said indeed, I am disavowing you, indeed, I see what you do not see, indeed, I fear Allah, indeed, Allah is Severe in punishment", that is, Allah ordered the believers not to be like the polytheists of Quraish who came forth from their homes in Mecca insolently, arrogantly, and showing off to the people with their wealth and their great number, and prevent the people from the way of Allah by fighting and torturing them, and Allah is All-Encompassing of what they do as He knows all of their affair and nothing is hidden from Him, so they deserved the painful torment through killing and captivity. On the day of the Battle of Badr, Satan has adorned for the polytheists of Quraish their deeds and made good for them what they came for and what they intended, and reassured them that no one can defeat them that day, and that he is their protector who will support them, and Ibn Abbas said that Satan has appeared to them in the form of Suraqa bin Malik bin ja'sham, but when the company of the believers and the company of the polytheists saw each other, and Satan saw that Allah has reinforced the believers with a thousand from the Angels, he turned back on his heels, fleeing from the battlefield, and said to them I am disavowing you, indeed, I see what you do not see, indeed, I fear Allah, indeed, Allah is Severe in punishment and revenge on those who disobey Him and His Messenger, assuredly, he was lying, he did not fear Allah, but he saw the Angels while the polytheists did not see them, so he knew that Allah will support the believers, and that they will not be able to defeat them, and this is the custom of Satan, he causes people to fall into disbelief and evil until they obey him and destroy themselves, then he will disavow them and claim that he fears Allah, where Allah has stated in Aya (16) of Surat Alhashr "Like the example of Satan when he said to man Disbelieve, but when he disbelieved, he said I am disavowing you, indeed, I fear Allah, the Lord of the worlds".

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (49) "And when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is disease said their religion has deluded these, but whoever puts his trust upon Allah, then indeed, Allah is Almighty, All-Wise", that is, the hypocrites who show belief and conceal disbelief and those in whose hearts is doubt about the religion of Allah said, when Allah has made the Muslims as few in their eyes as shown above in Aya (44), so they saw the small number of the Muslims compared to the large number of their enemy, that the religion of Islam has deluded the Muslims, so they dared to fight the polytheists of Quraish, and thought that the Muslims would be defeated, but they do not know that whoever puts his trust upon Allah, then He is Sufficient for him, and He will support Him, and Allah is Almighty who is Severe in His revenge on those who disobeyed Him, All-Wise who manages His creation with wisdom in His laws and destiny.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (50,51) "And if you could see when the Angels take in death those who disbelieved, striking their faces and their backs, and Taste the punishment of the burning fire, that is because of what your hands have sent forth, and that Allah is not unjust to the servants", that is, Allah addresses His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) saying if You could see when the Angels take the souls of the disbelievers, then You will see that the Angels will strike their faces and their backs saying to them as a reprimand Taste the punishment of the burning fire in Hellfire on the day of resurrection, and it will be said to them when they enter Hellfire as a reprimand this is because of what your hands have sent forth of disbelief and disobedience, and Allah is not unjust to the servants; because He does not punish anyone except for a sin, and He does not punish anyone except after the proof has been established against him.

Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (52-54) "Like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and those before them, they disbelieved in the signs of Allah, so Allah seized them for their sins, indeed, Allah is All-Strong, Severe in punishment, that is because Allah would not change a favor which He had bestowed upon a people until they change what is in themselves, and that Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knower, Like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and those before them, they denied the signs of their Lord, so We destroyed them for their sins, and We drowned the people of Pharaoh, and all were wrongdoers", that is, Allah confirms that the polytheists of Quraish did not differ from the nations before them, where their custom was like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and those before them who disbelieved in the signs of Allah with which He has sent His Messengers, so Allah seized them with a severe punishment for their sins, indeed, Allah is All-Strong and Severe in punishment, thus, Allah seized the polytheists with a severe punishment in the battle of Badr through killing and captivity, that is because Allah would not change a favor which He had bestowed upon a people until they change what is in themselves, so Allah did not change His favor upon the polytheists of Quraish and did not punish them until they opposed Him and His Messenger (PBUH) when they went out to fight Allah's Messenger and the believers, and that Allah is All-Hearing of their words, All-Knower of their deeds, and nothing of their affair is hidden from Him, so He will recompense them for their words and deeds, whether they conceal or declare them. Allah did not change His blessings that He has bestowed upon the polytheists of Quraish util they followed the footsteps of the people of Pharaoh and those before them who opposed Allah and His Messengers and denied the signs of Allah, so Allah destroyed them for their sins and deprived them from the blessings that He had bestowed upon them, and Allah drowned the people of Pharaoh in the sea when they opposed the Prophet Moses, peace be upon Him, and all of them deserved Allah's punishment because they all have wronged themselves with disbelief and denial of Allah's Messengers and signs.

Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (55-57) "Indeed, the worst of the moving creatures in the sight of Allah are those who have disbelieved, so they will not believe, those with whom you have taken a covenant, but then they break their covenant every time, and they do not fear, So if You gain dominance over them in the war, then Disperse by them those behind them so that they may be reminded'', that is, Allah assures that the worst of the moving creatures which move on the earth in the sight of Allah are those who have disbelieved in Allah and denied His oneness, so they will not believe for they are like the deaf and the dumb who neither see nor utter the truth as shown above in Aya (22), and they are those with whom Allah's Messenger has taken a covenant, but they broke their covenant with Him every time they gave Him a covenant, and they do not fear Allah nor fear His punishment, so they disobeyed His commands and did not avoid His prohibitions, then they broke their covenant and supported the polytheists against the Muslims like Banu Qurayza who broke their covenant with Allah's Messenger and joined Quraish and Ghatfan in the battle of Alkhandaq in the month of Shawwal in the fifth year of Hijrah as mentioned in Ayat (9-11) of Surat Alahzab. Thereupon, Allah commanded His Messenger if He defeated them and gained victory over them in war to disperse by them those behind them, so He has to torture them harshly or kill them, so that other enemies would not dare to do the same of what they dared to do, and that they fear that He will inflict upon them what was inflicted upon those before them.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (58,59) "And if You fear from a people betrayal, then Throw back to them equally, indeed, Allah does not love the betrayers, and Let not those who disbelieve think that they have outdone, indeed, they will not cause failure", that is, Allah addresses His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) saying if You fear betrayal from a people with whom You have made a covenant, and you fear a breach of the covenant between You and them, then Throw back to them their covenant and Inform them that You have broken their covenant, You and them equally, so there is no covenant between You and them and you both are at war, you and them are equal in this, so Do not fight them while You have a covenant with them and they trust You, and if You break the covenant on Your part alone, then it would be a betrayal and a treachery, and Allah does not love the betrayals who break their covenant even if it is against the disbelievers, and as narrated by Ibn Umar that Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said: "A flag will be fixed on the day of resurrection for every betrayer, and it will be announced this is the betrayal of so-and-so, the son of so-and-so" (Sahih Albukhari 6178). Then Allah reassured His Messenger saying Let not the disbelievers think that they have outdone Allah and that He can not defeat them, but rather, they are under His power and will, so they will not cause failure on the earth nor will they escape from Allah's authority.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (60,61) "And Prepare against them whatever you are able of power and tethered horses by which you terrify the enemy of Allah, and your enemy and others besides them whom you do not know but Allah knows them, and whatever you spend in the way of Allah of anything will be paid in full to you, and you will not be wronged, and if they incline to peace, then Incline to it, and Put Your trust upon Allah, indeed, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knower", that is, Allah has permitted His Messenger to break the covenant between Him and those whom He fears a betrayal, so He commanded Him and the believers to prepare for them whatever they are able of power and tethered horses which are the strongest force and the fortress of the knights, and as narrated by Uqbah bin Amer: "Allah's Messenger (PBUH) recited on the pulpit and Prepare against them whatever you are able of power, and said indeed, power is shooting three times, indeed, Allah will open the earth for you, and suffice you with supplies, so Let none of you forsake practicing with his arrows" (Jami' Altirmidhi 3083), and Allah's Messenger said in narration of Urwah Albariqi: ''Good will remain in the foreheads of horses till the day of resurrection, the reward and the spoils of war" (Sahih Albukhari 2852), and He said in narration of Abu Hurayrah: "Whoever keeps a horse for the cause of Allah out of faith in Allah and believing in His promise, then its feed, its drink, its dung, and its urine will be in his scale on the day of resurrection" (Sahih Albukhari 2853). So Allah commanded the believers to prepare whatever they are able of power, weapons, tools, and horses in order to frighten the enemy of Allah and their enemy from among the disbelievers whom they know like Quraish, and other tribes that show their hostility to the believers and others whom they do not know, but Allah knows them where they show loyalty and conceal hostility to them.

Then Allah gave glad tidings to the believers and assured them that He will pay them in full their reward for whatever thing they spend in the way of Allah such as weapons, swords, spears, arrows, horses, or other expenses, and they will not be wronged, but rather, Allah will multiply their reward seven hundred times or more for whom He wills as He has stated in Aya (261) of Surat Albaqarah. But if those whom Allah's Messenger had thrown back to them their covenant, and informed them that they are at war, continued to oppose Him, then He has to fight them, but if they inclined to peace through reconciliation and truce, then He has to incline to them and accept that from them, therefore, Allah's Messenger had responded to the polytheists of Quraish and agreed the peace treaty of Ahudaiybeyah in Zul-Qa'da in the sixth year of Alhijrah on the conditions they stipulated as mentioned in Surat Alfath. Then Allah commanded His Messenger to put His trust upon Him in all affairs and Allah is the All-Hearing, the All-Knower as nothing of His affair and their affair is hidden from Him.

Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (62-64) "But if they intend to deceive You, then indeed, Sufficient for You is Allah, He is the One who supported You with His victory and with the believers, and He has brought together their hearts, if You has spent whatever is on the earth, all together, You could not have brought their hearts together, but Allah has brought them together, indeed, He is Almighty, All-Wise, O Prophet! Sufficient for You is Allah and whoever follows You of the believers", that is, Allah addresses His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) saying if those whom You had thrown back to them their covenant intend to deceive You by showing peace and concealing treachery and treason in order to prepare themselves to wage war against You, then indeed, Sufficient for You is Allah, so He will suffice You their deception and plot, and will support You and grant You victory over them just as He has supported You with His victory from Him and with the believers on the day of the Battle of Badr and grant You victory over the polytheists of Quraish. Then Allah assures His Messenger that He has brought together the hearts of the believers and united them on the word of monotheism and Islam, where Allah has brought together the hearts of the Muhajireen and the Ansar, and brought together the hearts of the Ansar who had many wars between them in Pre-Islamic era, especially between the Aws and the Khazraj, and Allah has put an end to their enmity and hatred with the light of faith as He has stated in Aya (103) of Surat Aliemran "And Remember the favor of Allah when you were enemies and He has brought your hearts together, and you became by His favor brothers", and Allah assures His Messenger that if He had spent all of the treasures on the earth in order to brought their hearts together, He could not have brought their hearts together, but Allah has brought them together, and united them on guidance in order to strengthen, support, and help His Messenger, indeed, Allah is Almighty who is Severe in His revenge on those who disobeyed Him, All-Wise who manages His creation with wisdom in His laws and destiny. And Allah gave glad tidings of victory to His Messenger saying O Prophet! Sufficient for You is Allah and whoever follows You of the believers, so Allah will support Him with a victory from Him and with the believers who followed Him even if they were small in number compared to their enemy.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (65,66) "O Prophet! Incite the believers to fight, if there are among you twenty who are patient, they will overcome two hundred, and if there are among you one hundred, they will overcome a thousand of those who disbelieved because they are a people who do not understand, now Allah has lightened for you, and He knows that there is a weakness in you, so if there are among you one hundred who are patient, they will overcome two hundred, and if there are among you a thousand, they will overcome two thousand by the permission of Allah, and Allah is with the patient" that is, Allah commanded His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) to urge the believers to fight when confronting their enemy, so as narrated by Anas bin Malik that Allah's Messenger said to His companions on the day of the Battle of Badr: "Get up to Paradise as wide as the heavens and the earth, Umair bin Alhumam Alansari said O Messenger of Allah! A Paradise as wide as the heavens and the earth?, He said yes, Umair said Bakh, Bakh (My goodness), then Allah's Messenger said What prompted you to utter Bakh, Bakh?, he said no By Allah! O Messenger of Allah, except for the hope that I will be one of its people, He said you are one of its people, so he took out dates from his bag and began to eat them, then he said if I were to live until I have eaten all these dates of mine, it would be a long life, the narrator said he threw away all the dates he had with him, then he fought the enemies until he was killed" (Sahih Muslim 1901).

And Allah gave glad tidings to the believers of His support and victory saying if there are among you twenty men who are patient when confronting their enemy and stand firm against them, they will defeat two hundred of their enemy, and if there among you one hundred men, they will defeat a thousand of the disbelievers because they are a people who do not understand that Allah will prevail the truth over the falsehood and that Allah will support the believers, thereupon, Allah imposed upon them that any one of then should not flee from ten men of their enemy, but that was difficult for them, so Allah has abrogated this Aya, and lightened the number for them out of His knowledge that there is a weakness in them and that none of them will be able to fight ten men of their enemy at the same time, thereupon, Allah reduced the number to only two saying if there are among you one hundred men who are patient when confronting their enemy, they will defeat two hundred of them, and if there are among you a thousand men, they will defeat two thousand of them by the permission of Allah, and Allah is with the patient, so He will support them and will grant them victory over their enemy. And as narrated by Ibn Abbas: "When the verse if there are among you twenty who are patient, they will overcome two hundred was revealed, it became hard on the Muslims when it became compulsory that one Muslim should not flee before ten, so Allah lightened the order and said now Allah has lightened for you, and He knows that there is a weakness in you, so if there are among you one hundred who are patient, they will overcome two hundred, so when Allah reduced the number, the patience decreased as much as their task was lightened for them" (Sahih Albukhari 4653).

Allah Almighty says in the next three verses (67-69) "It is not for a Prophet to have captives until He inflicts a massacre in the land, you desire the gain of the world, but Allah desires the Hereafter, and Allah is Almighty, All-Wise, if not for a decree from Allah that preceded, there would have touched you a great punishment for what you have taken, so Eat of what you have obtained as spoils, lawful and good, and Fear Allah, indeed, Allah is All-forgiving, Most Merciful", that is, Allah informs His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) that killing the polytheists of Quraish whom He had captured on the day of Badr was better than taking the ransom from them and releasing them as Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, advised Allah's Messenger to take the ransom from the captives, so Allah says it is not for a Prophet to have captives until He goes to extremes in killing the enemies of Allah, so Allah addresses the believers saying you desire the gain and adornment of the worldly life by ransoming the captives for money and material things, but Allah desires for you the gain and adornment of the Hereafter and what He has prepared for you of the eternal bliss in Paradise through killing the leaders of disbelief and supporting the religion of Allah, and Allah is Almighty who is Severe in His revenge on those who disobeyed Him, All-Wise who manages His creation with wisdom in His laws and destiny.

And as narrated by Abu Zumail from Ibn Abbas: "The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said to Abu Bakr and Umar, may Allah be pleased with them, What is your opinion about these captives?, Abu Bakr said they are kith and kin, I think You should release them after getting from them a ransom, this will be a source of strength to us against the infidels, it is quite possible that Allah may guide them to Islam, then the Messenger of Allah said What is your opinion Ibn Alkhattab?, he said no By Allah, Messenger of Allah! I do not hold the same opinion as Abu Bakr, I am of the opinion that You should hand them over to us so that we may cut off their heads, Hand over Aqil to Ali that he may cut off his head, and Hand over so-and-so to me that I may cut off his head, they are leaders of disbelievers and veterans among them. The Messenger of Allah approved the opinion of Abu Bakr and did not approve what I said, the next day when I came to the Messenger of Allah, I found that both He and Abu Bakr were sitting shedding tears, I said Messenger of Allah! Tell me What You and Your companion are shedding tears about?, for if I find something that calls to cry, I will cry, and if I do not find, I will pretend to cry because of Your crying, the Messenger of Allah said I weep for what has happened to your companions for taking ransom (from the captives), I was shown the torture to which they were subjected, it was brought to Me as close as this tree. Then Allah revealed it is not for a Prophet to have captives until He inflicts a massacre in the land, till His saying So Eat of what you have obtained as spoils, lawful and good, so He made spoils lawful for them" (Sahih Muslim 1763). But later Allah has given the Muslims the choice to bestow a favor upon the captives by releasing them for free or to accept ransom from them as mentioned in Aya (4) of Surat Muhammad.

Allah has not made the spoils and the captives lawful for a Prophet before the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), where Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said in narration of Jabir bin Abdullah: "I have been given five things which were not given to anyone else before Me, Allah made Me victorious by awe (By His frightening My enemies) for a distance of one month's journey, the earth has been made for Me a place for praying, and a thing to perform Tayammum, therefore, anyone of My Ummah can pray wherever the time of the prayer is due, the booty has been made lawful for Me yet it was not lawful for anyone else before Me, I have been given the right of intercession (on the day of resurrection), and every Prophet used to be sent to His nation only, but I have been sent to all mankind" (Sahih Albukhari 335), thereupon, if not for a decree from Allah has preceded that He has made the spoils and captives lawful for the Muslims, Allah would have punished the believers with a great punishment for the spoils which they have taken on the day of Badr, and as narrated by Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (PBUH) said: "The spoils were not lawful for anyone of the black heads (The children of Adam) before you, but fire from the heaven would be sent down upon them, consuming them, Sulaiman Ala'mash said none says this except for Abu Hurayrah now. So on the day of Badr when they had taken the spoils of war before it was lawful for them, Allah revealed If not for a decree from Allah that preceded, there would have touched you a great punishment for what you have taken" (Jami' Altirmidhi 3085). Thereupon, Allah has made the spoils of war lawful for the Muslims, and He has determined the method of dividing the spoils among them as shown above in Aya (41), so He says Eat of what you have obtained as spoils from the polytheists, lawful and good for you, and Fear Allah and fear His punishment, so Obey His commands and Avoid His prohibitions, indeed, Allah is All-forgiving, Most Merciful for those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds.

Allah Almighty says in the next two verses (70,71) "O Prophet! Say to whoever is in your hands of the captives, If Allah knows any good in your hearts, He will give you better than what was taken from you, and He will forgive you, and Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful, but if they intend to betray You, then indeed, they have already betrayed Allah before, and He empowered over them, and Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise", that is, Allah commanded the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to tell whoever is in their hands of captives on the day of Badr who ransomed themselves that if Allah knows any good or any faith in their hearts, He will give them better than what was taken from them of ransom, and He will forgive them their polytheism and sins, and Allah is All-forgiving, Most Merciful for those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds, and as narrated by Anas bin Malik: "Some men of the Ansar asked for the permission of Allah's Messenger (PBUH) and said Allow us to give up the ransom from our nephew Alabbas, the Messenger of Allah said Do not leave a Dirham (coin) of it" (Sahih Albukhari 2537).

So Alabbas ransomed Himself and ransomed his nephew Aqil bin Abi Talib, then Allah has turned to Alabbas (The uncle of Allah's Messenger) in forgiveness, and guided him to Islam, then Allah compensated him for what was taken from him on the day of Badr, where as narrated by Anas bin Malik: "Some money came to the Prophet (PBUH) from Bahrain, so He said Spread them in the mosque, and it was the biggest amount of money Allah's Messenger has ever received. The Messenger of Allah left for prayer and did not even look at it, after finishing the prayer, He sat before it, and gave from it to everybody He saw. Alabbas came to Him and said O Messenger of Allah! Give me for indeed, I have ransomed myself and Aqil, Allah's Messenger told him to take, so he stuffed his garment with it, and tried to carry it away but he failed to do so, he said O Messenger of Allah! Order someone to help me in lifting it, He said no, Alabbas said to the Messenger of Allah then Help me to lift it, He said no, then Alabbas threw some of it and tried to lift it, he said O Messenger of Allah! Order someone to help me in lifting it, He said no, Alabbas said to the Messenger of Allah then Help me to lift it, He said no, then he threw some of it, and lifted it on his shoulders and went away. Allah's Messenger kept on watching him till he disappeared from His sight, astonishing of his eagerness (for money), Allah's Messenger did not get up and there remained a Dirham (coin) of it" (Sahih Albukhari 421). Then Allah addresses His Messenger saying if these captives who are in your hands intend to betray You by showing You something contrary to what is in their hearts, then they have already betrayed Allah before the Battle of Badr by their disbelief and plotting against the believers, so Allah empowered the believers over them on the day of Badr by captivity,  and Allah is All-Knower of their secrets as nothing is hidden from Him in the heavens or on the earth, the All-Wise who manages His creation with wisdom in His laws and destiny.

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (72) "Indeed, those who have believed and emigrated and striven with their wealth and their lives in the way of Allah and those who have sheltered and helped, those are allies of one another, but those who believed and did not emigrate, for you there is no guardianship of them in anything until they emigrate, and if they seek your help in the religion, then upon you is the help, except against a people between you and them there is a treaty, and Allah is All-Seeing of what you do", that is, Allah divided the believers into two groups namely, the Muhajireen and the Ansar, the Muhajireen are those who believed in Him, His Messenger, and the Holy Quran, went out as emigrants (Almuhajereen) in the way of Allah, and left their homelands, families, and friends after they have been wronged for the sake of Allah and His Messenger, and for the support of Allah's religion, and fought the polytheists for the sake of Allah with their wealth and their lives, while the Ansar are the people of Medina whom Allah has named the Ansar for they supported Allah's Messenger and the believers when they emigrated from Mecca after the polytheists of Quraish harmed them and opposed Allah's Messenger (PBUH), and they gave the emigrants shelters in their homes and shared their wealth with them when Allah's Messenger established the bonds of brotherhood between them and the emigrants, where as narrated by Abu Hurayrah: "The Ansar said to the Prophet (PBUH) Divide our date palms between us and our emigrants brothers, the Prophet said no, the Ansar said to the emigrants you may do the labor and we will share the fruits with you, the emigrants said we hear and obey" (Sahih Albukhari 2719), and they did not stop there, but rather they used to endure the work for the Muhajireen, where as narrated by Anas: "When the Messenger of Allah arrived to Medina, the Muhajireen (Emigrants) came to Him and said O Messenger of Allah! We have not seen a people more willing to sacrifice when having a lot, nor more patient when having a little than the people whom we are staying among, they endured the work for us, and shared with us their provision until we feared that they will go with all the reward, so the Prophet said no, as long as you supplicate Allah for them and praise them" (Jami' Altirmidhi 2487).

And as narrated by Ibrahim bin Sa'd from his father from his grandfather that Abdul-Rahman bin Awf said: "When we came to Medina as emigrants, Allah's Messenger established a bond of brotherhood between me and Sa'd bin Alrabi'. Sa'd bin Alrabi' said I am the richest among the Ansar, so I will give you half of my wealth and you may look at my two wives, and whichever of the two you may choose I will divorce her, and when she has completed the prescribed period before marriage, you may marry her, Abdul-Rahman said I am not in need of all that, Is there any marketplace where trade is practiced, he replied the market of Qaiynuqa', Abdul-Rahman went to that market the next day, and brought some dried milk and butter, and then he continued going there regularly, few days later, Abdul-Rahman came having traces of yellow (scent) on his body, Allah's Messenger asked him Did you marry?, he said yes, He said Whom have you married?, he replied a woman from the Ansar, then Allah's Messenger said How much did you pay her, he replied a gold piece equal in weigh to a date stone or a date stone of gold, the Prophet then said Make a banquet even if with one sheep (Sahih Albukhari 2048).

Thereupon, the Ansar sheltered the Muhajireen in their homes and shared with them their wealth, and they also helped the Messenger of Allah and the Muhajireen by fighting with them as shown above in Ayat (5-8), then Allah assures that the Ansar and the Muhajireen are allies of one another, so their hearts are united in affection, love, and sympathy, and they are supporters and helpers of one another against the disbelievers. But there is a third group of the believers, and they are those who believed in Allah and His Messenger but they did not emigrate to Medina but rather they resided in their homes, so there is no guardianship of them upon the believers in anything, so they have no share of the spoils of war except for what they attended the battle in, but if they emigrated, then they will have the same rights as the emigrants, and if they seek the help of the believers against their enemy, it is the duty of the believers to help them against the disbelievers unless they seek their help against a people between the believers and them there is a covenant, then the believers should not help them nor should they break the covenant until its term is complete, and Allah is All-Seeing of what you do as nothing of your deeds is hidden from Him.

And as narrated by Sulaiman bin Buraida from His father that when the Messenger of Allah appointed anyone as a leader of any army or detachment He would especially exhort him to fear Allah, and to do good to the Muslims who were with him, He would say: "Fight in the Name of Allah, and in the way of Allah, Fight against those who disbelieve in Allah, Make a holy war, Do not embezzle the spoils, Do not break your pledge, and Do not mutilate the dead bodies, Do not kill the children, when you meet your enemies who are polytheists, Invite them to three courses of action. If they responded to any one of these, you also accept it and withhold yourself from doing them any harm, Invite them to Islam, if they responded to you, Accept it from them and desist from fighting against them, then Invite them to migrate from their lands to the land of the emigrants (The Muhajireen) and inform them that if they do so, they shall have all the privileges and obligations of Almuhajereen, if they refuse to migrate, tell them that they will have the status of Bedouins Muslims, and will subjected to the commands of Allah like other Muslims, but they will not get any share from the spoils of war or Fai' except when they actually fight with the Muslims (against the disbelievers). If they refuse to accept Islam, Demand from them the Jizyah, if they agree to pay, Accept it from them and Hold off your hands, if they refused to pay the Jizyah, Seek Allah's help and Fight them, when you lay siege to a fort and the besieged appeal to you for protection in the Name of Allah and His Prophet, Do not accord to them the guarantee of Allah and His Prophet, but Accord to them your own guarantee and the guarantee of your companions for it is a lesser sin that the security given by you or your companions be disregarded than that the security granted in the Name of Allah and His Prophet be violated, when you besiege a fort and the besieged want you to let them out in accordance with Allah's command, Do not let them come out in accordance with His command, but Do so at your command for you do not know whether or not you will be able to carry out Allah's command with regard to them" (Sahih Muslim 1731).

Allah Almighty says in the next verse (73) "And those who disbelieved are allies of one another, if you do not do so, there will be a trial on the earth and a great corruption", that is, Allah severed the guardianship between the disbelievers and the believers, and assured that the Muhajireen and the Ansar are allies of one another as shown above, and that the disbelievers are allies to one another, so they support and help one another and act according their religion, so it is not permissible for a believer to be an ally of a disbeliever even if he is his father or brother, so there is no inheritance between them, and the believer should not reside with the disbeliever, but it is better for him to emigrate to the land of Muslims and reside between them as they are more deserving of support and assistance, and as narrated by Usamah bin Zaid that the Prophet (PBUH) said: "A Muslim cannot be the heir of a disbeliever, nor can a disbeliever be the heir of a Muslim" (Sahih Albukhari 6764). Then Allah assures the believers that if they do not comply with His commands and disavow the disbelievers, a temptation will occur among the people, a confusion between the truth and the falsehood will occur, and a widespread corruption will occur on the earth.

Allah Almighty says in the last two verses (74,75) "And those who have believed and emigrated and striven in the way of Allah, and those who have sheltered and helped, those are the believers in reality, for them there is forgiveness and a noble provision, and those who have believed afterwards and emigrated and striven with you, then those are of you, and the possessors of womb relations, some of them are closer to others in the book of Allahand Allah is All-Knower of everything", that is, Allah assures that the Muhajireen who have believed in Allah and His Messenger, emigrated from Mecca to Medina, and striven in the way of Allah with their wealth and their lives, and the Ansar who have sheltered the Muhajireen in Medina and have helped them as shown above in Aya (72), are the true believers, so He promised them forgiveness for their sins on the day of resurrection, and a noble provision in Paradise, abiding therein forever. Then Allah assures that those who have believed after the migration of Allah's Messenger and the believers to Medina, then they emigrated from the land of polytheism and joined them in Medina, and strove with them with their wealth and their lives, are from the believers in guardianship as they are allies of one another, so they are better in degree than those who have believed and did not emigrate from the land of polytheism and resided among the polytheists and did not fight with Muslims against their enemy, and they are also better in degree than those who spent and fought in the way of Allah after the conquest of Mecca as mentioned in Aya (10) of Surat Alhadid. And Allah declares that the possessors of womb relations inherit each other as some of them are closer to others in the Book of Allah than the Muhajireen, where the Muhajireen used to inherit the Ansar after the emigration of Allah's Messenger to Medina when Allah's Messenger established the bonds of brotherhood between the Ansar and the Muhajireen as shown above in Aya (72), so Allah restored the inheritance to its normal rule, but it remained to the Ansar to do a favor to their allies from among the Muhajireen with a charity or a will as Allah has stated in Aya (6) of Surat Alahzab, and Allah is All-Knower of everything as nothing is hidden from Him in the heavens nor on the earth, so He knows best what is appropriate from them to inherit one another through womb relations.
