106-Surat Quraish

4 Verses Meccan (revealed in Mecca)

A'auzu Bellahi mena ash-shytani ar-rajim

I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan

Bismi Ellahi Ar-rhmani Ar-rahim

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Li ilafi Quraish (1).
For the familiarity of the Quraish.

ILaafihim rihlata ash-shita'e was-saif (2).
their familiarity with the journey of Winter and Summer.

Fal ya'budu rabba hadha albait (3).
Let them worship the Lord of this House.

Alladhi att'ama-hum men ju'iin wa amanahum men khawf (4).
Who has fed them against hunger, and has gave them security against fear.

Simplified interpretation:

Quraish used to travel twice a year for trade in order to bring the necessities of their life such as food, fruits, cloths...etc, and they taking caravans into the neighboring areas where they used to travel to the south in the Winter (Yemen), and to the north in the Summer (Syria).

The first and the second verses can not be separated from one another, the first one came to describe an habit of Quraish to do some thing and their familiarity with the tribes, but it did not specify that habit, so the second verse came to explain this "their familiarity with the journey of Winter and Summer", that is, they uniting together on the journey of Winter and Summer.

The two caravans is a great example of the honor that Allah has bestowed upon Quraish for Allah has honored Mecca with the presence of the sanctuary House (Ka'bah) therein, then Quraish became the residents of Allah's sanctuary, so people used to respect them, and as a result they always return to Mecca in safety during the two caravans.

When Our prophet Muhammad (PBUH) called Quraish to believe in Allah, They said to Him as Allah has stated in Surat Alqassas Aya (57): "If we were to follow the guidance with you, we shall be snatched away from our land", then Allah Almighty, says in the same Aya in a response to what they said: "Have We not established for them a safe sanctuary (Haram) to which the fruits of everything are brought as a provision from us?, but most of them do not know".

Here Quraish was afraid from the pagan Arab tribes, and said if they follow the Messenger of Allah and the Holy Quran, Other tribes will harm them and they will wage war against them, and they shall snatched from their country.

Verily, Most of them do not know that their city is a safe land and all kind of fruits are brought to it from the surrounding areas, and this is a goodly provision made by Allah. May it was an answer of the prayer of sayyidina Ibrahim peace be upon Him when He said: "My Lord, make this a city of peace (Mecca), and provide its people with fruits".

In account of the blessing of peace, security, and provision from Allah upon Quraish, they should be grateful to Allah, and they must worship the Lord of the sanctuary house, as Allah has stated in the third and the forth verses "Let them worship the Lord of this House, Who has fed them against hunger, and has gave them security against fear".

Allah said in the third verse "the Lord of this House" because the sanctuary house is a source of peace and respect for them among other tribes, and this in turn save them from attacks during the two caravans and save their land simultaneously. So they should worship the One who has fed them against hunger, and has gave them security against fear.

No one Knows its interpretation except Allah
