Thumma ma addraka ma yawmmuo alddin  (18)
Then what will make you know what the day of judgment is?.

Yawmma la tamlekuo nafsun lee nafsin shayi-an wa alamruo yawmma-izin le-llah (19).
The day when no soul can do anything for another soul, and the command that day is to Allah.

Simplified interpretation:

Surat Alinfitar is like Surat Alinshiqaq begins with a description of some scenes of the day of resurrection in terms of the disturbances that will occur to the sky, and to the earth, then Allah confirms that every soul will find what it has offered, and what it has left behind, is written by the Noble Angels, and then He asks man about what has deceived him away from the way of the One who has created him, and assures that is because of his denial and disbelief of the day of Judgment, and then there will be the righteous, and the wicked, and any soul can benefit no one except itself for the matter that day will belongs to Allah alone.

In the first four verses Allah describes two scenes that will take place in the sky and two scenes that will take place on the earth on the day of resurrection, where the sky has cleft, and the stars has dispersed, and the seas has been burst, And the graves has been scattered, and these events proves what is mentioned in Surat Ibrahim Aya (48) where Allah says "The day on which the earth will be turned into another earth and the skies as well, and they all shall come out before Allah, The One, The All-Dominant".

So the dead will be resurrected from the graves, and they shall stand before their Lord, and then as mentioned in Aya (5) "A soul will know what it has sent forth, and what it has left behind", that is, man will know on that day all his deeds whatever it is good deeds or evil deeds, and he will know everything that he neglected, and did not fulfill the rights of Allah over him.

Then Allah says in Aya (6) "O man, what has deceived you about your Generous Lord", it is a kind of censure and reprimand as if Allah says to him what has led you astray from the path of your Lord and what made you able to disobey Him, And He is the One "Who created you, then perfected you, then proportioned you" Aya (7), and He alone "In whatever form that He willed, He assembled you" Aya (8), that He fashioned man in different forms in physique, and in the external form.

And then Allah says that what made man able to disobey Allah and what has deceived him about His Lord is his denying of the day of Judgment as Allah says in Aya (9) "Nay! but you deny the judgment", where the infidels denies the resurrection and reckoning and they says as mentioned in Surat Almu'minuon Aya (37) "Life is not but our worldly life, we die and life, but we will not be resurrected".

Therefore, Allah warns him in the next three verses (10-12) and says "Verily, over you there are keepers, noble, are recording, knows whatever you are doing", that is, every man has Angels over him, knows what he does, and they memorizes and writes his deeds in his book which he will find on the day of Judgment, as Allah says in Surat Alisraa Aya (13) "And We will produce for him on the day of resurrection a record which he will encounter spread open", and from Allah's mercy upon Muslims that He said "He who intends to do a good deed and does not do it, will have a good deed recorded for him, and if he does it, it will be recorded for him as ten, whereas he who intends to do an evil deed and does not do it, it will not be recorded for him, and if he does it, only one evil deed will be recorded" (Sahih Muslim 162 a).

And according to that book, there will be the companions of paradise whom Allah said about in verse (13) "Indeed, the righteous are in bliss", and this Aya is the same of Aya (22) of Surat Almutaffifin, and Allah has described some forms of that bliss in which they will be in on the day of resurrection in Surat Almutaffifin as a reward for their belief in Allah and for the righteous deeds they have done.

But on the other hand, there will be the companions of Hellfire whom Allah has mentioned in the verses (14-16), and said "And verily, the wicked are in Hellfire, will burn therein on the day of judgment, and they not be absent therefrom", where they will find what they used to earn from deeds is written by the noble Angels which are mentioned in Aya (10), and then they will enter Hellfire on the day of Judgment and they not be absent therefrom for they will not find from it an escape as mentioned in Surat Alnisa'a Aya (121).

Then Allah says "And what will make you know what the day of judgment is? Aya (17) and He repeated it in the next verse (18) to glorify the affairs of the day of Judgment, and the horrors that it carries, and Allah described that day in the last verse (19) by saying "The day when no soul can do anything for another soul, and the command that day is to Allah". That day any soul can benefit no one except itself, where as Allah has stated in Surat Abasa Aya (37) "For every man, that day, will be a matter adequate for him", and then the matter and sovereignty that day will belongs to Allah alone.

No one Knows its interpretation except Allah
